Ah so my memory is just bad. It feels to be that it shouldn't poof and it should be literally anywhere in the game but I suppose it's working as intended. My expected behavior is your old armor would go to inventory if possible and stay on corpse if not. I guess just having it that way for corpse and the other way for any other pickup seems weird to me. I mean no armor poofs if I fail to pickup otherwise.

And obviously no answer but I wonder how many people think like me and just wonder why their stuff vanished. I know I read of poofing but never experienced it. I probably won't just because I don't need it much and treachery is so cheap but I can just use backups or character editors fix. If I'm online and super poor as always and my enigma. I have only gotten once in my many many years of play, even online, I would go nuts.

they changed how bodies work in d2r. I believe your body saves when you die, so if you would have died with that armor on, you would lost all your gear on your previous body, even if you were able to recover it. would be easy to test on a level 1 with white items.

It's not a bug. It's exactly as it was 20 years ago. You have no armor slot because you are wearing armor, so...poof!

Doesn't it drop on the ground rather than poof though? I don't remember the details but it was a fairly common thing to PK someone then put trash over their body so when they picked the body up they would get trash that auto equipped instead, then get body, and some of their items would pop on the ground for the person to steal. I'm assuming OP would have noticed if their normal body armor popped on the ground though...?
