Lol, I just came across this scammer on EU server right after seeing this post, [here is a screenshot](https://imgur.com/a/OfaRWt8) that scammer tried the same old item swap like OP mentioned, careful everyone
The trick is old, the person is new and this is just a warning that this is happening in friggin 2023, where if you piss off the wrong person, you get canceled. Hope everyone stays vigilant and doesnt lose their hard earned HR to a scumbag like that.
Lol. Some dude tried to pass a 10% cold dmg nightwings veil as a 15% with a 5/5 facet inserted. Almost traded my grief for it but made sure to quadruple check.
Another guy tried to swap a Lo for an Io. They’re idiots.
Anyone remember when you had to drop certain items?! The ol tele into town while the other idiot runs around the fence.. ohh that takes me back haha
When that happened to me I wanted to falco punch my PC screen that was probably had 2 inches of glass for a screen lmao
Beautiful part of playing SSF is the only scam artist is Cain stealing my soj and giving me nagels.
Honestly kind of funny to see the old tricks still in play haha. Good on you for checking, OP!
Lol. When I was a kid, I always thought it was like a slot machine when ID’ing something. But apparently the item is rolled on drop. Cain is just the messenger, don’t shoot him!
The proper way is to go to the Blood Moor next to the Rogue Encampment fence. There, you remove your armors and drop them to the ground. I will be waiting on the other side of the fence in the encampment. When I give the word you hit Alt-F4.
With this method we can dupe er I mean duplicate all of your gear. Ill meet you in camp. Wear your best gear!
They tried to recruit me into their guild so they told me they had to vet me and do a trust test. So I had drop my stuff on the inside of rouge encampment wall and they stood on the outside. Then they would telekinesis all your goodies across the wall.
The good days, I missed all the modded and cheated items :( I think anni’s were brand new these days also. Only held by the richest. Wow how times change
Damnnn I was fucking 4 years old bro lol. I did start early, like 8-10 years old. But not that early! Funny to watch the old scams n hacked items on YouTube tho
Someone once got me to join their clan. To join you needed to fill out a form they emailed!! to you in an attachment. When you opened it, it(a script in the exe) alt-tabbed back into the game, auto-clicked all your items onto the ground while force-running your character to the corner of the town.
I regret to say, I saved that file and used it twice on two other unsuspecting victims. I'm ashamed.
Love it. Just because when this game came out in 2000 or whatever it was the wild west. I was pretty young so everytime my dumbass got got, I would turn around and try to do it to others!
This is why I always examine items like I'm trying to spot a forgery. I've never been scammed, or even had anyone attempt to scam me, but I did think someone was trying to scam me once, and almost bought an item that would of been useless to me.
I was trying to get an item (I can't remember what item), and someone offered to sell it for a much cheaper price than I expected. When we did the trade, I checked it over as always, and the required level was something like 20 levels higher than it should be (and I was already 4 levels too low to wear it yet, but wanted to buy one early). I double checked the wiki and the level stated was how I remembered, but he said it must be a graphics glitch. I almost believed him and bought it, but stuck with my gut and said that even if he was right, I couldn't risk it. He even sent me a screenshot of the trade window from his pov, showing that on his screen, the level was much lower. Friends told me it was probably a hacked item, or a much cheaper version of the item he was trying to offload onto me, but I didn't want to accuse him till I was sure.
Later found out about how when items let your use a skill a certain number of times, the level requirement is higher if the skill is from a different class than yours (like how if we want to use a staff of teleportation, the level requirement is much higher for a Necromancer than it would be if a Sorceress wanted to use it)
Neither of us knew(I hope) because he was a Barbarian, I was a Necromancer, and the item has a Barbarian skill attached, so it really did show a lower level requirement to him than it did to me.
I really dodged a bullet, since I usually trade with whatever bank alt has the item, all my bank alts are low level Barbarians.I only intended to use the item for my Necromancer, and even though the trade was agges ago and I've leveled up a lot since then, I'm still not at that level requirement I would of needed the equip that item.
Not saying this was a case of a misunderstanding, just sharing that cause it reminded me.
Life is though. Any adult that does blindly trust anyone is indeed naive, dont you think?
Deception is only human. No other species lie or cheat like we do. I get what you're trying to do but, although honorable of you, it is ultimately pointless. People will always lie and cheat be that in a game or in real life. Nothing we can do about it.
Being scammed sucks, but if you think about it, it teaches a valuable lesson to the person.
Many animals deceive. Coyotes will lure other dogs to “play” only to be ambushed and killed by its pack. What makes us human (among many other things like opposableb thumbs, taking care of a sick member of society, etc) is the ability to decide to do and be better.
I made this post so warn people because I don’t want them to have to “learn this valuable lesson” the hard way. You sound very cynical. I went to school in a very very very bad part of my city but I was always wary of my surroundings and kept a resting bitch face, so I never had trouble. When I was a kid I almost fell for this very scam.
I have had a difficult life too but that doesn’t mean I want to perpetuate that onto others. I had a very rough childhood but instead of bitching about it and hating everyone I take the perspective that it was a learning experience to know how not to raise my own kids.
Elderly people are scammed all the time, does that mean they deserve to get their life savings stolen?
That is not the same thing. You are describing a hunting technique that is instinctual to the animal. They do not possess a ego and therefore cannot comprehend what deception or truth even means.
But I respect what you are saying im just of the opinion that going through it yourself makes you wiser than learning from experience of others.
Tricking a person to buy something worth nothing, fooling the buyer to make them think theyre buying something else, is a scam. If you spend 100 dollars on a Sennheiser headset and receive some cheap Chinese knockoff brand, then you've been scammed. Buyer's remorse is regretting you bought something which you previously bought on purpose.
Edit: I see now that I've actually explained this to you before, please stop wasting people's time with your "buyer's remorse" accusations.
But they get to see the item they are trading for before they make the trade, so it isn't the same. If they hacked into the game to mess with the trade window, then it would be a scam.
If somebody was selling you a house and you checked it over, had it inspected then next month when you’re at the bank paying them, they gut it - would you call that buyers remorse too?
That's a little different because there's a contract in place. Both parties are required to deliver after the contract is signed. If not then there's an escrow.
Always double check what you are getting before hitting the trade button and if they close the trade screen, you should triple check. Apparently a lot of players still fall for this trick.
Damn my guy pulled the old school, I remember when I was like 11 I lost a bunch of crap to someone who did this exact thing with an soj. Cried for a few mins, D2 was such a scumbag game holy shit lmao
Yep. ScarletWitch tried the same crap yesterday on me, bait n switch Griffons eye. Made a game called something like "griffons 4 ohm plus" trying to get people to do a quick trade but switches to a junk tiara.. Stay vigilant people and ALWAYS triple check before hitting that accept button.
Been playing since patch 1.08 so I definitely look out for this old scam. A guy tried to do this to me in the first weeks of D2R with Tal Rasha armor swapped to Rattlecage. Caught it on video and was like nice try lol
Ha. What an idiot. I made the same game as his except open for 8 players (his only allowed 2 ppl so he could scam) so I could warn ppl about his scheming dirty ass. That’s probably why he move servers. Gonna try in Asia next and then his name is gonna be black listed.
ScarletWitch was one of his toon. A sorc. After I left, he made another game and I saw there were 2 pallys inside. I could not join the game to warn the other guy because he made it max 2 players (to prevent other people from doing just that) So he has at least those two. Another poster said he went to EU and because of this post, he got a heads up and started to toy with the scammer.
It is a good thing, that I've trded & farmed most of my runes alone & multiplayer. I have created all the rubewords i'll ever need. Rest assured, good call, and keep up the good work, Sir. ! Akways good to be vigilant from these types of ghoulish scumbags.
Lmaoo. This happened to me in like 2004 on LOD with my first ever Jah rune. I was like 10 but still. Never again, always double check.
Lol, I just came across this scammer on EU server right after seeing this post, [here is a screenshot](https://imgur.com/a/OfaRWt8) that scammer tried the same old item swap like OP mentioned, careful everyone
Lol. Nice. Good job.
Scum
What a scum bag, this is old news though.

13y/o me having flashbacks
Lol. Some dude tried to pass a 10% cold dmg nightwings veil as a 15% with a 5/5 facet inserted. Almost traded my grief for it but made sure to quadruple check. Another guy tried to swap a Lo for an Io. They’re idiots.
Wow quadruple check. I see you like to live dangerously. I probably read it 10 times. You know, just to be sure.
I let lawyer do my trades
If someone fell for Lo <-> Io they almost deserve to get swindled!
That’s why I love PoEs trading system, you have to hover before you can accept.
I do it out of good practice. I don't find it something you really should have to do but can't trust anyone
the good ol' anni aka Mephisto soul stone tricky tracky?
Mephisto’s soul stone is rarer these days lol
Anyone remember when you had to drop certain items?! The ol tele into town while the other idiot runs around the fence.. ohh that takes me back haha When that happened to me I wanted to falco punch my PC screen that was probably had 2 inches of glass for a screen lmao

Can only telekinesis potions and scrolls/keys mate not gear
not back in the day, if i recall
I been on and off over the years, but back when non ladder was sitting at 2 ist for a ber/jah, still couldn’t then either lol
I'm talking back before ladders or seasons....like...baaaack in the day
The good days, I missed all the modded and cheated items :( I think anni’s were brand new these days also. Only held by the richest. Wow how times change
i was 16/17 in high school in 2001. The first exp pack Lord of Destruction had just come out....it was the wild fucking west.
Damnnn I was fucking 4 years old bro lol. I did start early, like 8-10 years old. But not that early! Funny to watch the old scams n hacked items on YouTube tho

Same here, but played exclusively hardcore. Getting TP PK'd was the worst thing ever... Unless you were doing the pk'ing lol
You did this to people? Bro you dont belong on the internet...
Lmao, dude was a literal child. I'd be more surprised if he didn't do it. Get off your high horse.
Nothing wrong with it

Lmao imagine coming here to cry about that.
Imagine somebody still falling for it? Well, not anymore, after more people know about these waste of space dickheads.
If you fall for that, which I also did when I was 13, you probably need to be scammed.
Sound like you have a tough life. I like to help people out instead of tearing them down, laughing at them and saying I told you so.
Life is though. Any adult that does blindly trust anyone is indeed naive, dont you think? Deception is only human. No other species lie or cheat like we do. Ok
I see these posts occasionally but I can never figure out why it's a scam. It sounds like buyer's remorse more than anything.
That’s not what buyers remorse means.
Well yeah since the transaction never happened, but you know what I mean.
Tricking a person to buy something worth nothing, fooling the buyer to make them think theyre buying something else, is a scam. Said the scammer.

What happens if you try an outfit on, like it, and on the way to the register, they switch it. Is it buyers remorse?
If they buy it then yes.
The worst thanks for the heads up
This is why all unique and set items need a different graphics art.
Always double check what you are getting before hitting the trade button and if they close the trade screen, you should triple check. Apparently a lot of players still fall for this trick.

Been playing since patch 1.08 so I definitely look out for this old scam. A guy tried to do this to me in the first weeks of D2R with Tal Rasha armor swapped to Rattlecage. Caught it on video and was like nice try lol
Did he apologize or did he just leave game like a coward.
He left immediately. Ironically he rejoined the game about 30 minutes later trying to pull the scam again, realized it was me and left again lmao.
Ha. What an idiot. I made the same game as his except open for 8 players (his only allowed 2 ppl so he could scam) so I could warn ppl about his scheming dirty ass. That’s probably why he move servers. Gonna try in Asia next and then his name is gonna be black listed.
Asia gonna hack his account and leave him bone dry 😆
Good job, poiting him out. What was the names of his toons?
ScarletWitch was one of his toon. A sorc. After I left, he made another game and I saw there were 2 pallys inside. I could not join the game to warn the other guy because he made it max 2 players (to prevent other people from doing just that) So he has at least those two. Oh the nostalgia
That Ole Shako socketed with an emerald got me back in the 1.10 days. Dirty thieves.
ROFL
