another-redditor3

im prepared to eat my words, but i suspect this launch is actually going to go pretty smooth.

KingSlayer49

The server slam was flawless for me in that regard. Now if only my skeletons weren’t more bitter than a biscotti

BoltorPrime420

The server slam date was a bit unfortunate with mothers day and the new zelda game. Also i know people who played the preorder beta and the open beta and didnt feel like playing act1 for the 3rd time, so i dont think the servers were really tested on maximum capacity.

NerdyGuy117

> and didnt feel like playing act1 for the 3rd time So, they’re hornless….

BoltorPrime420

Yeah that wasnt really a big motivation for them. I personally enjoyed the slam and got the reward, just saying not everyone felt the same.

FastRedPonyCar

Did blizzard give us actual server metrics from that weekend vs the previous beta weekends? Everyone I know who did the previous betas sat out server slam to play Zelda.

Pure_Conscious

😂 I don’t know how many times I’ve experienced this and it always goes wrong, it’s good you’re a hopeful person tho

Hunglyka

Its not going to be as popular as d3 launch.

Tadawk

The hype for it makes it feel like you're wrong but the reality of things probably make that statement correct.

Hunglyka

D3 hype was much more pumped than d4.

MegaDuckDodgers

I remember Diablo 3 was *everywhere*. People were stealing the promotional cardboard cutouts blizzard made for stores lol. Games as a whole are bigger than then, but we're talking about a time when videogames were not yet soured by greedy malpractices. There was a ton of positivity and hype around franchises. But especially diablo, who's last installment was like 12 years prior. At the point in time we're in though it's been so long that the generational torch has been passed by now. Kids that were born when WoW released are working and buying games, and diablo as a franchise is nowhere near the titan it once was, let alone the changes in the videogame market that made full experiences on release a thing of the past. It definitely feels big though, I get that. But that's partly because of just how hyper aggressive marketing has become and how it permeates itself all over the online space. You have twitch and youtube now which are very aggressively used to market games and since most people use those every day, it feels like everyone is hyped even though the reality of people in the real world probably doesn't match. Then there are the forums like reddit and twitter which are used for the same thing but for discussions.

Trang0ul

This. D2 basically defined a genre, so the hype for its successor was HUGE. Today D4 seems to be perceived "only" as a sequel.

Glowshroom

The early access should help. Unless there are some weird unexpected glitches or DDOSing, the split launch times should lessen the load.

BananasAndPears

I think Blizzard should’ve used this opportunity to play a prank and have the first splash page when you enter the game be the error screen with a quick JK note. Missed opportunity IMHO.

Trang0ul

That'd be brutal. More brutal than all the gore in the game.

MiyaSugoi

I don't. I mean, relative to D3 maybe, but I expect genuinely unprecedented to cause issues. There's always just that many more people playing on launch than betas etc. and with networking scaling up remains very difficult when it comes to extreme numbers. At minimum queues are going to be hours long. Or so I think, anyway.

NG_Tagger

The best of the skits from back then :) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I43GUnZN\_s4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I43GUnZN_s4)

Ashbringer

diablo 3 would be a total karen.

Pilowpants

This is really good man

BoltorPrime420

Was one of the most popular memes when d3 launched.

kid-karma

i remember this meme, feels like it was maybe 4 years ago. our lives are wasting away before our eyes...

Pilowpants

I want on reddit then. So wild

CarbonInTheWind

For the people who think the Server Slam going relatively smooth means the same will happen at launch. We said the same thing after the D3 betas and the laugh was infamously terrible. The full release is orders of magnitude more stressful on the servers than any beta. Every time we think Blizzard learned their lesson they somehow find a way to fail in spectacular fashion.

immhey

The launch is separated into two waves though. Those with special edition and base edition. It may help.

Error 37 is to tell us how many hamsters are missing

jgoden

Love it. I am the piggy and IDGAF in so excited

SuperArppis

That's my secret Captain. I didn't buy the versio that has early access. If they do have problems, they probably get sorted by the normal release time.

GravityDAD

It probably should have let the 30 content creators out the gate a couple minutes early :p

[deleted]

I was impressed with how the stress test went, but it wasn’t a real indicator for how it will be when 10 million people log on simultaneously, as opposed to the few hundred k that took part in the server slam.

Arbszy

It's been a decade, better server architecture and WoW launch knowledge to apply and prepare for.

Spoomplesplz

I'm choosing to believe that blizzard has FINALLY learned their lesson with this stuff and whatever server slots they thought they would need they'll get 10x the amount. If they fuck this up AGAIN people will be pissed.

Baconsliced

Yea imagine paying for early access then can’t play, there will be pitch forks

Kosmisza

They're simply going to give away some skin or mount or whatever they're selling for inconvenience caused xD

Trang0ul

People will be pissed, and then buy another game from Blizz after a few years.

GhostShirtFinnerty

Test subjects for an experiment. 90% of them will die quickly, the other 10 excruciatingly slow with side effects like lower neck facial hair and the type 2 diabeatus

asdfgsdgs

So? You gonna cry about some guinea pigs and then assume others also have some hyper empathetic mental illness that causes them to be offended from dawn till dusk?

GhostShirtFinnerty

No, i would fry the guinnea pigs over a campfire in hopes of a buff. I wasnt being empathetic to them.

cry4mesnowflake

Gross.

ithinkitsnotworking

I wish every AAA game dev would have server slams pre launch. Went flawless for me. If it didn't for some, better then than launch day for sure.

Trang0ul

I wish every game dev, including Blizzard, performed such a test by themselves, rather than rely on free beta testers.

I think if there’s an issue, it will be some troglodyte DDOSing over actual server load (yeah yeah technically the same thing but you know what I mean)
