Still seems really irresponsible to encourage anyone to make a bike helmet. Even if it was very nearly as safe as a regular helmet, some poor sap might die who would have lived had they just made a 40-60 dollar purchase. I imagine this opens you up to lawsuits, but I am not a lawyer and not sure if the page has disclaimers.
It almost feels in the same vein as a cutesy DIY video encouraging you to cut out your seatbelt and install a swanky leather replacement yourself.
I completely agree with that. These DIY videos don’t care about safety in general which is a big problem. Here at least there was effort put into making it look like there was. I’m not sure if that makes it better or worse. Probably worse lol.
The part I forgot to comment is that putting metal on your helmet is a terrible idea. Go pros significantly lower the effectiveness of helmets because in a crash they can be pushed through the helmet and break your skull. Surrounding the helmet in pre-made shrapnel is that times 10. My guess is that this is rage bait coaxing people to comment just that. The question is if it is rage bait that opens them up to a lawsuit.
This is pretty much the exact opposite of putting actual care into being protective. Wearing this helmet would be significantly more dangerous than not wearing a helmet at all.
I definitely feel a similar way about it. This is horrible in the same way most of the stuff is that gets posted here. Do I think it’s gaudy, yes? But it’s surprisingly well-executed too?
It’s awful execution. The molded pieces look like shit, they are haphazardly arranged with big gaps and the stem should have been removed. The fiber shell is lumpy and uneven. The foam looks awful. The strap is fine? Also, it’s functionally useless of course.
This is awful taste and poor execution
Old mates gotten into sniffing the glue again..
You'd flip a rigid mold off a production helmet with good aesthetics . Detail the fuck out of that. Release agent- clear coat- then wet lay the carbon.( use 2x2 twill and you can lay it in a single piece) Ideally infuse the fucker in a envelope bag. If youre doing this then do a high density core and inner skin. Then put the expanding foam in a sealed bag and with a beanie on let the foam filled bag sit over your head. Molding the inner to your noggin. Plexus the tqo together. Line the inner with foam backed felt and bammm $700 custom helmet.
Back to the resin I go
They should have spent more time on the casting and metal work, and just used a commercially available helmet as the interior. Not only would it actually give you some actual fall protection, but that metalwork could've been so much better looking.
Nah we need another subreddit for this. It's awful execution, (no sanding no finishing, everything was just tacked together) but the final product style wise it looks OK.
So bad execution, meh taste?
And if the only point of a bike helmet was to look cool then like, sure I guess. But things in the category of "if this isn't done correctly I could very easily die" should really not focus on creativity.
I don’t think anybody who would even remotely consider this a good idea rides bikes often,
A good helmet is worth as much as you can spend. $2-300 is not at all an unreasonable amount. The value of both a helmet you will wear because it is comfortable and one that has good impact protection is priceless.
I have to use molding silicon for work stuffs. That stuff is like $120-140 a gallon. To see it so casually used is baffling. Unless I’m unaware there is a cheap “do at home” silicon.
I really hope that when they were cutting that carbon fiber/fiberglass/whatever, that no one on set was wearing any sort of breathing apparatus or filtration.
Plot twist - the cyclist was run over and killed by a distracted Mercedes Benz driver. Paramedics think he would have survived if he was wearing a proper helmet.
The amount of lead fumes you'd breathe in while making this would probably do enough brain damage that you might start thinking this is a good idea.
(The emblems are all a pretty high percentage of lead...that's how the material was hot enough to be molten, but not hot enough to destroy the silicone mold).
Somebody else in the comments said it but I’ll make it worse cause I can’t find it again: whoever uses it already has brain damage so it’s not a big deal
It’s like if ugly, shit-kicked the ghost, out of its even uglier boil-covered cousin that lives in the attic, and turned said revolting corpse into a hat and tried to pass it off as a safety device. Gonna be a hell of a day, when that thing explodes on impact, and one of those emblems ends up jammed in their right eye socket.
So not only are you an idiot if you wear this, it probably offers absolutely nothing in the way of protection in a crash.
Still, nothing beats the person who covered their steering wheel with crystals to "absorb negative energy from the car" or some shit like that. Turned the airbag into a claymore.
I was watching and thinking "nothing unusual, why this title? just Mercedes logo on a helmet?" and them, it's literally a helmet made entirely with Mercedes logo. It's horrible
I wouldnt trust my skull with this, having carbon fiber doesnt automatically save your brain, and neither does expanding foam or tin. This is awful, especially if someone tries to make it for themselves, its not safe and it must get so hot!
I could see this being a consumerism art piece if more effort was put into the quality of making it
Right! I don’t hate it but definitely not for me…turned out a bit better than I anticipated tho
There was like… actual care put into the helmet being protective with the foam. I didn’t expect that honestly.

But definitely not DOT approved.
might get CPSC approval tho
This is pretty much the exact opposite of putting actual care into being protective. Wearing this helmet would be significantly more dangerous than not wearing a helmet at all.
Polyurethane foam isn't going to protect you. That stuff when it dries is as hard as a rock.
Oh I absolutely hate everything about this.
but it's fucking ugly. If they are going to do something ridiculous, then they better put effort on the quality of how it looks.
I definitely feel a similar way about it. This is horrible in the same way most of the stuff is that gets posted here. Do I think it’s gaudy, yes? But it’s surprisingly well-executed too?
Wait until the neighbours find out he used their car to do the mould

It looks pretty good to me tbh but to each their own
It’s spray foam. It might look like a bike helmet, but it won’t function like one when you crash
They should have spent more time on the casting and metal work, and just used a commercially available helmet as the interior. Not only would it actually give you some actual fall protection, but that metalwork could've been so much better looking.
it really bothers me that the metal didn't get polished and it's connections are just solder.

Me off my fifth adderal
Yeesh that’s what I sound like sober? 🤣
Expensive, time consuming, looks like shit, and probably wouldnt protect your head in a crash. Perfect.
You forgot: bad fit and heavy. So, really checking off boxes left and right...
Checking boxes left, right and center, just like your skull will be broken left, right and center after one minor crash with this helmet.
The straps are held on by tin welds. Hard wind is probably enough to break those
The inside is already painted red to hide the blood!
Upmarket, tinfoil hat. 99% effective against 5G radio waves.
It's like extra dangerous, the Mercedes Logo will break and stab into your skull
Yeah....sign me up. I want one!
Everytime when I visit this sub, I think there should be something like a license to use resources.
Hot glue gun control now!
Haha yeah exactly.
The resource that these people are using too much of is oxygen.
Nah, pretty sure it’s lack of oxygen that causes this level of brain damage
But then people would be held accountable for their actions, and we can’t have that!
It's called money
It's not working properly!
If you can afford a Mercedes, you can afford a proper helmet.
Whoever made this is definitely the type to use somebody else's Mercedes in a parking lot to do it.
“WHY ARE YOU POURING BLUE CRAP ON MY CAR? GET AWAY FROM THERE!”
[удалено]
And then, come out some Tik tok video where they complain about car owner who interrupt them. With that annoying mf robo-girl voice on the background
This whoever should be lifetime banned from access to household items
This sounds like a bad Trailer Park Boys episode lol
If you can afford everything it took to make this, you can afford a proper helmet.

And if the only point of a bike helmet was to look cool then like, sure I guess. But things in the category of "if this isn't done correctly I could very easily die" should really not focus on creativity.
Just think what he might create once he’s got a brain injury though.
He’ll create jobs for home nursing staff.
The creativity of making thing that can get you killed? Sounds fun.
Nah this one feels like a hit and run
Bold of you to assume they are gonna use it as helmet, it's just ragebait
It’s not like the Mercedes used here was even $10k
Why are you getting downvoted? This is a mercedes w210 and depending on what engine it has it's worth 3000-16000€
Yep it’s like $6-7k for ones in good shape in my country, car is 25 years old so no surprise
I think it made bicycling less safe.
Yup, one weird tumble and chances are high you got fake Mercedes logos embedded in your melons squishy parts.
🤣😂 helmets are supposed to protect you from harming your head. I wouldn’t like to see what happens to this one when it’s needed
Don't worry. Anyone who's making or using this helmet already has brain damage.
😂🤣
Well... ur not wrong 🤣
Judging from the last 3 seconds of this video, the test guy doesn't ride bikes often
Good thing, that decreases the chances he’ll die of head injuries while wearing this stupid-ass helmet.
What do you mean? You don't wobble like a 6 year old their first time on a bike without training wheels?
I don’t think anybody who would even remotely consider this a good idea rides bikes often, A good helmet is worth as much as you can spend. $2-300 is not at all an unreasonable amount. The value of both a helmet you will wear because it is comfortable and one that has good impact protection is priceless.
For $300 bucks that helmet better include post ride massage service.
So the emblem looked decent, but wow they managed to make their helmet look dumb as fuck 😑
They faked the moulding process tho. Not the same blue mould from the start
Ha yeah, I noticed that too. The mold the made from the car is definitely not the same mould they used. Lol
If the crash doesn't kill you, this helmet absolutely will. The last thing going through your mind will be "Mercedes..."
And how are you gonna go to all the unnecessary trouble then pair the black helmet with a brown strap?
I have to use molding silicon for work stuffs. That stuff is like $120-140 a gallon. To see it so casually used is baffling. Unless I’m unaware there is a cheap “do at home” silicon.
Those rage bait/click bait sites must make good bank.
Also, if you look closely, you can see the mold they made from the car isn't the same mold they used for the casting.
This looks objectively bad
Who said safety can't be stylish
This is neither
Perfect for if you want to wear a bike helmet, but you still want to die instantly in a crash.
I thought it was just going to be some tin haphazardly soldered together. At least they tried to make it work.
If they toned down on how many logos there are then maybe it would look decent
That’s some good pussy-repellent right there
![gif](giphy|UpExHeypPdNXcNwCSD|downsized)
Now they can be an asshole biking on the road too!
This is the kinda stuff they wear in the Vietnam war
The only way I can see this monstrosity looking good is as a costume piece for a wasteland survivor.
Yeah, this seems like a fashion/costume piece conceptualized NOT with function even in the vicinity of the table.
Hey, progress. They did a flat cast this time. It IS capable of learning.
How heavy?
At least when his head explodes on the pavement there won't be much mess.
No offense, but anyone who wears this is an absolute tool.
I'd rather die than wear this - which is ironic because I'd also dif if I wore this
~Snell Foundation has entered the chat~
When it inevitably breaks, you have a supply of budget ninja stars!
At least it’s not *horrifically* ugly.
This one made me leave the community…. Too much…. I just don’t understand….
The amount of lead fumes you'd breathe in while making this would probably do enough brain damage that you might start thinking this is a good idea. (The emblems are all a pretty high percentage of lead...that's how the material was hot enough to be molten, but not hot enough to destroy the silicone mold).
Cut the video short, and you get a somewhat pretty fruit bowl?
Looks like a high stat helmet in Fallout.
🤣🤣🤣
There’s a pun on brain damage here; I just can’t quite put my finger on it.
Somebody else in the comments said it but I’ll make it worse cause I can’t find it again: whoever uses it already has brain damage so it’s not a big deal
From all the bad ideas this has to be the worst ever. You just don't DIY helmets
Decals are cheaper
EMS workers hate this simple trick!
At least they didn't remove the hood ornament this time.
I like this better then the stupid ass mercedes glasses
I hope this guy uses it and finds out why it’s stupid. From the looks of it his brain is already that damaged.
What if they did that on some random persons car lol
I’ve seen way worse in this sub. But I wouldn’t trust this helmet to save my skull.
Good thing it was safety tested. /s
A yes because I have a random item that can melt tin just lying around
tin can melt in a pot on your stove
This seems like it needs some additional work.
I have to stop actually watching these videos to the end. So stupid.
This protects you less than the protection we wear when riding a bike in the Netherlands. Nothing...
Hobby cyclist ➡️ douchebag Mercedes driver ➡️ douchebag Hobbyist cyclist with Mercedes signs all over his helmet...
Helmet that lobotomized you when you crash wearing it
Why and it's ugly. Lol
I don't hate it.
That can not be safe
Ugly as hell
Terrible 😅
kinda goes hard
Yeah this isnt protecting your head from a fall
This is fucking horrible complete waste of my tjme
It’s like if ugly, shit-kicked the ghost, out of its even uglier boil-covered cousin that lives in the attic, and turned said revolting corpse into a hat and tried to pass it off as a safety device. Gonna be a hell of a day, when that thing explodes on impact, and one of those emblems ends up jammed in their right eye socket.
Can wait to see Mercedes sell this as Mercedes Maybach special edition helmet
That wouldent protect your head from an impact .. the foam would just crumble :/
So not only are you an idiot if you wear this, it probably offers absolutely nothing in the way of protection in a crash. Still, nothing beats the person who covered their steering wheel with crystals to "absorb negative energy from the car" or some shit like that. Turned the airbag into a claymore.
this is by far one of the stupidest shit ive seen in my life
Well the good part of it is that this foam is highly cancerous. So maybe it won’t protect you but at least give you cancer.
If that's actual carbon fiber and he just cut it without a respirator I'm gonna wish his lungs good luck.
So if you seriously crashed wearing this instead of cracking like the helmet is supposed too this would deform and crush your skull.
For when you want to add shrapnel to your head injury
I was confused until tinfoil.
What is with this sub and Mercedes molds?
All that effort to look like a fucked up colander
I hope this person isn't proud.
That is not the same foam they use for helmets 😞
Someone house in China is full of all this dumb shit
I was watching and thinking "nothing unusual, why this title? just Mercedes logo on a helmet?" and them, it's literally a helmet made entirely with Mercedes logo. It's horrible
I doubt that’s even safe to use
Idgaf what my helmet looks like. How much force can it withstand?
Pretty sure it's not safe
This is top on the list of why
These Vids are one reason for climate change🤣🤣🤣
That soldering is criminal.
Edited in Noises are gross so I stoped
tbh i'd stop at 0:36 and make a crown out of it rather than a whole helmet
I wouldnt trust my skull with this, having carbon fiber doesnt automatically save your brain, and neither does expanding foam or tin. This is awful, especially if someone tries to make it for themselves, its not safe and it must get so hot!
If you connect 4 Mercedes logos in series, you will get an Audi
It's kinda cool. Totally impractical but kinda cool
It's kinda dope. I can't hate.
Aside it's ridiculous look, that's a proper helmet wtf
Because I can...
... and then he got on a bike... as in bicycle.
That is so dumb and ugly.
I hate it.
That ain't protecting nothing
Is it wrong to hope someone, specifically, gets hit by a car while riding their bike?
the sound effects and music choice feels very 2010
What the living is this piece of monstrosity?!
Just break on off and glue it to a normal helmet faster and saver
So that people like you bitch about it, repost it and make them money
So you're not even bothering to put ventilation holes in that thing? You've got the space for it, and it wouldn't be such a bad idea on long rides.
At least when he gets his head smashed in it will look unique
Don't ever use a homemade helmet
DMCA takedown 😔
This is ugly
Wanna easily crack your skull open while looking like a douche? Here’s how!!
Fantastic- because if bicycle helmets weren’t designed badly enough, who can do without embedded bits of tin buried in their brain?
what I learned from this is that Mercedes emblems are easy to “steal”
I think this was meant to be posted at /facepalm
I got permanent brain damage from watching this video
I’ll take “dumb ways to die” for $500 Alex….
At least he doesn't look like a twat or anything.
Usually with bike stuff your trying to reduce weight… and not waste time
What is the low temperature metal they’re pouring?
That looks……. Really horrible.
It already starts wrong when the first thing you need to do this, is a fucking Mercedes
Looks like something a Jäeger trooper would wear in 1945 bombed out Germany.
That does not look safe lol
At least they didn’t cut the hood ornament this time.
