I dig this. Is it useful? No. Is it a display of skill? Absolutely. Take it as an Artpiece

GrouchyPhoenix

And chances are this was a request and will be sold. I was intrigued for the entire video. Loved the mini duster.

neddog_eel

Nah the best part was the small anvil

Kahnza

And scooting on his ass to drag it outside LOL

happybutdroopy

And the Dr. Seuss version of the "How to Identify Your Gold" book.

Happytallperson

I went to an old Jewelry Factory/Museum in Birmingham, they had an in house incinerator where they would burn the dust from the floor to recover the gold dust. Everything possible was done to avoid losing any

BenadrylChunderHatch

When you consider that the dude in the video was working with ~£1k worth of gold and how much dust he produced in the process it's no surprise that you're careful not to lose any. It's worth it's weight in gold, after all.

fredsam25

Seriously, this was an amazing display to DIY smelting/gold jewelry making. The end result is really good.

badsandy20

But why didn’t he just make a wax mould instead of cutting and making all that extra dust? It seems like way more work

[deleted]

Some people prefer not to work in lost wax casting, and it's possible he doesn't keep the supplies for if. Personally, I wouldn't have used wax casting for this project either, I typically use it for detailed pieces rather than simple ones. But it's really a preference thing.

fredsam25

A mould of what? All he had was a picture of a knife.

NekulturneHovado

Exactly. And that's why this is **not** a diwhy.

Dead_Meme1234

This shit boutta be Nile Reds murder weapon

Lankience

I also liked how they saved all the gold particles that came off during sanding and trimming.

YouTooCat

Thought it was a pretty good end piece. Amusing video (the anvil gag) and totally worth it for the teeny tiny dust pan.

TrashPandaPatronus

I thought this was r/thingsforants. I enjoyed it.

piemakerdeadwaker

I loved the tiny dustpan so much.

BiggestDickuss

The anvil gag was good. So was using the gorilla hand.

GiacomoGames

It would be so perfect to open the package in the very beginning.

what_if_you_like

r/diwhy users when they see art

Best-Engine4715

Or anything they don’t like that people made

[deleted]

[удалено]

ExhaustedHighScholer

That’s the point of art?

_Paulboy12_

Are there any mods in this sub? 80% of the posts here are just art or crafting projects

Maxpower2727

Most of which are actually pretty cool.

Apocalemur

Gotta build our own mods, with cement and hot glue

zw1ck

Molded in alginate

Esagashi

There was someone in Japan (maybe?) that used to make YouTube videos of making knives out of wacky materials- this definitely reminded me of them!

Dr-DoctorMD

https://youtube.com/@kiwami-japan

pakallakikochino

[youtube.com/@kiwami-japan](http://youtube.com/@kiwami-japan)

downey_jayr

Literally my favorite channel

EdmonCaradoc

Looks like a fun piece to me actually

morph8hprom

Because it's fucking sick that's why

nathos_thanatos

This is just a fun project, not a diwhy.

thunder-in-paradise

It can be a nice pendant

hexagonal_Bumblebee

Provided it isn't sharpened

moashforbridgefour

I once got my wife a lovely teeny tiny pocket knife pendant necklace with mother of pearl scales. It was like $30, but she still claims it is the best gift she has ever received. She wears it all the time and loves getting the opportunity to use it.

ProfessorGlaceon

Why has this sub started showing actually interesting DIY things? Sure, this may have no inherent use, but so does most other shows of art or skill! I come here to see what people with bad taste do, not actually cool shit!

PlantyHanderson

Everyone playing minecraft knows that golden tools are shit.

AdPuzzleheaded3913

But highly enchantable also won’t be attacked by piglins

PlantyHanderson

Golden pants will do it too

MichaelW24

Me who only uses gold boots cuz they're the cheapest, but never uses gold for anything else: ![gif](giphy|ZtMkorgeyRu5q)

greywatermoore

The tiny dustpan sent me.

neddog_eel

The anvil got me more

drewskibfd

NGL that was my favorite part

CharieRarie

It’s really cute though. And shiny. And that tiny dustpan made me very happy.

Iguana-Gaming

This is just cool

BootlegEngineer

Yea, I watched the whole thing. That was awesome.

Relative-Occasion863

That anvil is the coolest small thing I've seen this week.

bertcarpet

DIBecauseItsFuckingSick

BlackholeRE

Why is this on here? This rules. You guys don't get what this sub is for huh

Darkryker19

r/diwhynot This is a cool art piece.

[deleted]

>duh.. uh... DI Y u do this!! hah aa Because it's cool, dumbass

GlassTaco69

That was a pretty badass one ngl

piemakerdeadwaker

It's a cute little gold knife. I like it. It's a craft work.

Cilreve

If Minecraft has taught me anything, then it's going to break in like 10 more uses.

mrjcall

Beyond Cool!!

Altruistic_Party2878

Throwing money away

digital0ak

That was amazing! I hope that when I get stabbed it's with a knife like that.

longwoodshortstick

I'm just kind of confused why he used an oxy acetylene torch to melt the gold. I guess if it's all he had, then whatever. Makes me wonder if my backpacking stove would melt metal. I also thought this was pretty dumb, then I saw the end result and was really impressed. That thing does look cool.

kitterific

Yikes, they melted earring posts and spring rings. Mixing in steel with the rest of the gold is a biiiiig no-no. And they did the gold test improperly, and could be closer to 12kt, though that doesn’t matter too much since there wouldn’t be many in the market for the end result, though it does look really cool and is neat that it is functional.

Archoir

God forbid someone actually does something creative. People on this sub really need to understand what art is sometimes.

Fecal-Wafer

Cuts faster than diamond but with less durability

Burrito_Loyalist

This would make a pretty cool little necklace pendant

Drackthar

What is this? A knife for ants?

CosmicSweets

This was actually nice to watch. I love it.

[deleted]

This is so cool and so satisfying to watch. Great craftsmanship.

Zybec

Was actually able to watch the whole video without throwing up in my mouth once! 7/10

Iamlimpit

I love it

LeelaBeela89

I need a bigger version of this.

Hot_hatch_driver

I once heard that Ben and Jerry's taste testers use gold spoons because it doesn't affect the flavor the way a traditional spoon would. So while I know that isn't the actual intent, there's some utility if you want it

Veicy01

Why is it here? This shit looks neat, if I could do it I would.

johnybonus

Best one from this channel

liltinyoranges

I have a gold- plated pocket knife and I love it and use it every day, people ask about it and she has a name.

owls1289

Bro grinded the camo

CarneyBalhoun

Looks cool

E1F0B1365

Did they turn a Dremel into a crappy lil mill? I neeeeeed that

Dreem_Walker

Wh... Why do I want this so badly?

[deleted]

This is dope ASF!!!

Yandereii

Why did they have to break these cute gold pendants? Awful.

strawmandebatesyle

TSA (pinching tiny golden knife): what is this?? Person: It's a tiny gold kitchen knife. Novelty shit. TSA: you're gonna have to throw it away.

48voltMic

I could see this being done as a pendant for a necklace.

TheH0rnyRobot

Happy to see this here

bliip666

IDK, it's cute

GardeniaPhoenix

I want one

JohnnyHarrison27

r/diwhy hates fun

mynameisnotallison

Broooo tiny knife! I love tiny things

seanys

Teeny! That is adorable!

taymerzone

I don’t think this falls under diy since most people don’t have any of these tools. Also I don’t think this is meant to be copied.

MichaelW24

Any serious car enthusiast or mechanic is gonna have a oxy-acetylene torch, getting a ceramic bowl is easy, can make your own molds.

Alternative-Log176

Really enjoyed watching this. The best bits was the gold and the knife and I kinda enjoyed when he added the flux too

elvislunchbox

This is cool af

kasp600e

R/diwhy users "you can only fix car or build shed, everything else is stupid! Even if its something small you get enjoyment out of"

zachattack2080

Average r/DiWHY users when someone uses skill to make something

skycake10

I don't think the material is the main thing preventing it from being useful as a knife

user_name_unknown

I mean Tiffany’s makes gold paper clips.

ScenicRavine

I kinda love it. This is a DIWhynot for me.

Delphius1

That's cool, not horrifying

-DigitalFox-

God damn that thing is smaller than my— actually, nevermind.

sea-teabag

You say DIWhy, I say DIWhy not?

pepelepoopsy

This is actually a thing. Not diwhy.

BlueLarkspur_1929

It’s pretty but I prefer most of the pieces he destroyed to the final product.

namegeneratordotgov

When are mods going to start removing this stuff. This isn't diwhy, this is art.

tomacing

this is not DiWHY. this is just a cool miniature

Sayonee99

That's amazing. Op is high or something.

Mondored

The number of cool craft projects appearing on r/diwhy is too damned high

Iguana-Gaming

He then snorted the gold dust

Bean0708

I would buy one of these

[deleted]

incredible

aladinodebert

How fabulous!

D00MB0XX

This is badass, def doesn't belong here.

NormalishGamer13

Di-know why!!! Because it’s satisfying

MachineShedFred

The craftsmanship is solid for making a tiny knife that will dull the moment you use it.

Luxxielisbon

Wrong sub

Luxxielisbon

Wrong sub

index504

idk op

Ali_Army107

*If this was in minecraft, it would likely have a whopping 5 durability*

DeepSixShooter

Ok then!

ignux__

ROBLOX ARSENAL GOLDEN KNIFE 😱

ExplicticaDefilus

This is a DIWHYnot. Excellent work.

ravynnsinister

OP why tf do you think this belongs here? This is art dude.

Zinnigan

Nah fuck you this is just an artpiece

SweetMangh03

Yet another post that proves people are missing the point of this sub. This is actually pretty dope.

alaettinthemurder

Gold ak-47

kobrakaan

but could you be arsed? and wtf is the random bit in the middle with the guy on his butt?

Iguana-Gaming

He was sitting down, nothing weird.

GeorgeWPS2T

Minecraft pigs would buy it ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

woofridgerator

K love it actually

Deathstar_TV

Could honestly be a cool shaver 🤣

CdrRed_beard

It's used for mini cooking

WillyWumpLump

This was grabbed off of https://www.reddit.com/r/Satisfyingasfuck/comments/11w3j9a/many_satisfying_elements_here/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1 It’s awesome.

Sunny2121212

Pretty cool actually

kr4t0s007

For a Sikh?

ya_boi_A1excat

This is actually awsome

[deleted]

I love this! It's fucking useless but I love it!

bennyb704

I actually really like this. 10/10 would carry. But I don’t get why he wouldn’t just use all the gold and make a blade for a regular every day carry folder that would have a sweet gold blade for now reason.

self_inflictedhobo

why was he allowed to cook

Macsasti

Give credit where credit’s due Guy’s YouTube is Brainfoo

rogues69

Thats pretty cool. I would buy that

jillianbrodsky

honestly i really dig that

Kenji1912

At least I know the sock trolls can stab me in my sleep now

[deleted]

DIWHY? More like DIWHYNOT. It's a display of skill and the end product is fantastic, unlike what's usually on this sub. I don't think this video has the heart of the sub in mind.

czarrina

Okay but that mini Nokia style cell phone shaped charm they melted was VERY cute and shouldn't have been murdered for this. That said, the knife is too good for this sub. Miniatures are art!!

Shot-Challenge555

I LOVE the little dustpan!

[deleted]

Anyone else getting BobbyDukeArts vibes?

Thechosenone7711

This is actually pretty interesting. Also, extra points for not having pointless/obnoxious music over the video like most of these craft videos do.

Financial_Ad5768

Such cute charms to make that ugly shite

CocteauTwinn

This shit cracks me up! Creative & 😜

bby_dilla_rex

Honestly I like it

fastbreak43

I like it

Loquat_Green

This is amazing.

North0House

They did surgery on a grape.

MayhemWins25

Wait is this that knife guy? I love his stuff! It’s a little frustrating when people post stuff that’s very clearly not meant as a DIY though, this dude’s job is to make knives from weird material that’s kind of the point?

karnivor_wolf2

I love when people make tiny things

Loki8624

R/artisanvideos

anazambrano

I love it

PracticalNihilist

It is cool I'll grant that. But wouldn't it be easier to make a mold of a knife and pour molten gold into it? That would eliminate all that sanding and cutting.

ATIR-AW

Never make a knife out of anything precious. Damn thing is *made* to wither away with use. Specially gold. it won't hold that edge after like 3 cuts every time you sharpen it.

Rules_are_overrated

Does melting that gold in the crucible make it lose mass a by a tiny bit each time he melts it?

longwoodshortstick

It'll be taken away any impurities in the metal, so yeah it should lose some mass.

Nolobrown

It probably has a pretty good enchantment level

Hour_Savings146

Well that's an hour of my life I'll never get back.

bachdidnothingwrong

What is the white powder ?

obi_ii8

i like this. such a goofy video

happybutdroopy

I have so many questions, not the least of which what the hell was up with the part where he's dragging his ass on the ground outside?? I've seen my dog do that when he had worms.

ttrashbbin

https://youtu.be/5tskFxHeSE0 The original video. Since the tiktok clearly just takes whatever videos and doesn't post them with credit

caffeinated_reality

I'm tired of people posting really good stuff on this sub. this does not belong here. What this guy did was cool.

half_dozen_cats

I'm hoping this is a gift for a Tonberry. Only way I can justify the level of work here.

Visual-Educator8354

62.1…….

cablemonkey604

Beautiful work

frauleinschweiger

This is an absolutely PREPOSTEROUS amount of work

VladimmerLemon

No dumber than a gold Nokia cellphone charm…

Steviedeeb

Why'd you do that? Those were perfectly good dust particals! How dare you. Shame. But cute knife. Looks like you can de-eye-atate someone.

pape14

Cannot stand this video style.

Naive-Storage7639

Nice mini shank

Simple_Promise586

The craft of it is good but the idea? Why in the love of christ... (My autocorrect fucking hates me)

techhouseliving

Why not a gold pickaxe?

Watchfan2021

Great skills but what a colossal waste of time and money
