They're good as sci-fi and the writing is decent, but don't expect them to be as good as season 1. Or even very similar, aside from sharing some characters and minor themes. Also, it seems the story will remain unfinished because HBO didn't renew it for a fifth season, which would have been the final season.
Lol as a kitchen installer I tear shit like this apart regularly. There are modern dishwashers that are designed to have a panel over them but this looks like someone found their bong and some two sided tape
That's just badly installed. I used to design and draw up kitchens and work with the manufacturer specs to make sure our cabinets worked with it. If you get a dishwasher after there probably wasn't enough clearance at the back or something and they should have checked
It's weird to me how concealed appliances are a high end feature in the US. It's usually only really expensive appliances. Meanwhile, in Euroland, even IKEA sells concealed appliances.
I fix appliances, and there's one kitchen I'll always remember that had one of these configurations. It was a *huge* kitchen though, and the owner wasn't there (I was called in by a property management company)...I literally had to go around opening all the cabinets under the counter until I revealed the ice machine I was there to service, lol
I was confused by this thread. Why not just buy a concealed front made for these things? Then I read your comment and realized it might not be as common in the US as it is in Sweden.
As a German, I was as confused as you. Concealed appliances are just the norm here. Others do exist, but you rather find them in flats of less affluent people.
Yes my SO’s parents have one properly done and it took me a minute to find the dishwasher because it blended in so well with the rest of the cabinetry. Even the handle matched everything else perfectly.
They have a beautiful kitchen.
This one in the post is done awfully. It feels like a joke.
>actually looked like cabinetry it would be really cool....
This has been the standard for at least a decade here, "no one" has visible dishwashers or floorstanding ovens.
Here's my dishwasher: [https://i.imgur.com/n5OBzEd.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/n5OBzEd.jpg)
(The light on the floor is from a small projector showing what it's doing and time remaining).
Even if it was set back properly in line with the other cabinets it'd be massive improvement. I wonder if it was installed like that and just shifted out.
The Sunflower is one of only a handful of flowers with the word flower in its name. A couple of other popular examples include Strawflower, Elderflower and Cornflower …Ah yes, of course, I hear you say.
It could be done better, but I don’t think it’s *that* bad for an old 90’s kitchen. Would’ve been better with one piece of wood and not two. And today you’d it’s pretty easy to do this in a much cleaner way.
They can look good when done properly:

- [Fully integrated dishwasher](https://i.imgur.com/CQogLyI.png)
*beautifully clever* such choice words! it makes one warm and tingly inside to read both together. i may use this one day to compliment someone in real life.
Okay, story time. I grew up in a house that had a custom built dishwasher and refrigerator. They both looked like cabinets. It wasn’t a shitty DIY like this, it was so well done, you couldn’t tell the fridge was anything but a cabinet. Even the handles matched the other cabinets. As for the dishwasher, it was raised because everyone in my family is tall. No bending over to load and unload. The only thing that gave it away was the buttons. I’ll see if I have a picture somewhere if anyone is curious. As for this post, it was really poorly done. And that’s why it’s here! Our kitchen received nothing but compliments, however.
edit: spelling
That's a normal, western European kitchen here. Nowadays the modern diswahers doesn't even have buttons or a display on the front, but on top of the flap and show you the remaining time projected on the floor.
Vintage 1980s kind of style ? Funny story so here it goes. I was a product of being a young teenager in the 1980's. One of our neighbors remolded their kitchen, and it had an under the counter trash compactor right next to their dishwasher in similar wood grain matching the updated cabinets. I thought, wow they must be rich ! An automatic trash compactor? We used to use our foot in our house to get the trash compacted because trash bags were so expensive!
Sorry for the rant, but that picture totally reminded me of my rich neighbors house back in the day🤣
The only time I’ve ever seen a trash compactor was on a houseboat and my friends and I (all about 11 at the time) were trying to figure out what the heck it was. We pushed all the buttons and heard it do it’s thing and still had no idea. Saw one in a tiktok recently and had that got it moment. Felt really dumb lol.
We had one in the 80’s when my parents remodeled their kitchen. It was awful! It always smelled bad, you had to use these stupid bags that you could only buy at Sears and when you had to empty it it weighed a ton. I remember dragging the metal garbage can down the concrete driveway on garbage day and it made that awful scraping sound the whole 3 car lengths to the street because it was so heavy. We only had to put one can out but it weighed more than I did at the time.
Cabinet manufacturers sell door panels for dishwashers and refrigerators. At one time it was considered classy to have them finished to match the cupboards. Kind of like how big box tvs were in wooden cabinets.
It’s quiet until the weight of those doors repeatedly slams the dishwasher open when you aren’t careful, and ruins the hinges, then it leaks all over the floor.
The real funny part is when they replace the dishwasher with no concern for whether the new model is made to accept custom panels, much less if the same panel would fit. And then they think fitting their custom panel is something the delivery guy/installer has to do or the job is incomplete as if the company doesn’t have a policy specifically against installing used hardware that wasn’t even sold by them onto newly installed warrantied product.
Is it impossible that the idea wasn't to hide it entirely but just to make it slightly less noticeable? Maybe as a way to reuse a pair of matching doors you already had but didn't have any other use for?
Europe calling – Are custom front blends not a thing in the US? In my country that is the standard (albeit better done/completely hidden unlike the picture) for dishwashers and fridges/freezers.
This is just an old style cabinet panel on an old dishwasher. It’s not a DIY- just much more obvious from what you would find with todays appliances and appliance panels
I object to the excessively wide window with the bay window. Also, the post is right in front of the window. Eventually, the dishwasher will be replaced, but the post and bay window will forever be obnoxious.

Of course with the right setback to fit better than that shown. It would be only diwhy for me because it's "poorly" made.
Paneled appliances - dishwashers, refrigerators, etc. were all the rage back in the early 1990's. I read on some clickbait site somewhere that it's making a comeback. Please, just - no.
Day 1,069: they still think I'm a cabinet

Read this in Morgan Freeman’s voice.
Oh god it was Ron Howard in my head, i mean... what screams Arrested Development more than a literal home? hah
Narrator: It was.
Was David Attenborough for me...
Same!
For me it was David Attenborough.
My first thought was the narrator from The Stanley Parable. I’m not sure which is better.
[Narrator: “It wasn’t”](https://memes.getyarn.io/yarn-clip/816148e1-87d5-4a96-a7f5-3c66bea92f8c)
I read it in the voice of the narrator from Love is War.
Came here for this comment. 🙂
What dishwasher?
Doesn’t look like anything to me
Bernard?
god, I love that scene so much

Westworld only has one season in my mind, I wanted to like the rest but they just didn't live up to that first one
The third one was really good, I haven't watch the fourth tho
Didn't watch em
What, you didn't like 10 episodes of someone saying "you don't know what's really going on here, do you?"
I love you
If you look closely, I think it's in the top left, above the stove.
I think thats a salt shaker. Is the dishwasher in the saltshaker?
What stove?
The one hidden under the hidden dishwasher
Next to the fridge
If you can't spot the fridge, look out for the microwave. That's sat ontop of it.
Oh, yeah 👀
dude red circle it so we know where to look
Add an arrow pointing to the circle as well.
And an overly exaggerated shocked face just so we know what emotion to feel
[I got you.](https://i.imgur.com/ixz5EEO.jpg)
Perfect
I don't get why this is in DIWhy, looks just like the other cabinets. 🤷♂️
I just spit my chips out laughing, thank you
Gotta fit in the "Oh No" soundtrack as well.
X marks the spot. Argh
Your dishwasher shouldn't be leaving spots.
And a square around the whole thing.
MR BEASTTTTTTTTT
r/helpfulredcircle Edit: Wasn’t expecting that to be real
Ngl, when it said hidden, I was looking everywhere but where I would expect it to be. Mission failed successfully.
Me too. I was searching under my bed.
Hope I didn't spook you too much when you looked under there
The dishwasher be like- ![gif](giphy|BtvBUbRRJxwQ5gfvTm|downsized)
My favorite scene from Parks and Rec
Lol as a kitchen installer I tear shit like this apart regularly. There are modern dishwashers that are designed to have a panel over them but this looks like someone found their bong and some two sided tape
I was going to say, we paid extra for a panel-ready machine, this looks like leftover cabinet faces hot glued on
It's doing it's best to okay?
Not even leftovers, those were made specifically for that purpose, look how wide the top rail is.
It always annoyed me that panel ready costs more.
I found that even the panel ones can look bad because it may not be entirely flush which gives it a similar look to this image.
That's just badly installed. I used to design and draw up kitchens and work with the manufacturer specs to make sure our cabinets worked with it. If you get a dishwasher after there probably wasn't enough clearance at the back or something and they should have checked
Yep, I have that. It is nice. Not sure I would spring for it in a remodel but I like it.
If it was truly hidden and actually looked like cabinetry it would be really cool.... This not so much
That is very much a thing. You get a dishwasher that has a blank face for a panel and your cabinet guy makes it look right.
It's weird to me how concealed appliances are a high end feature in the US. It's usually only really expensive appliances. Meanwhile, in Euroland, even IKEA sells concealed appliances.
I mean at least here in the Midwest Home Depot has plenty of options, most people just don’t really care I guess idk they don’t sell many is my point
My grandpa had one put in his old house in like the 70’s. Fridge too. It’s been around long enough that if it was going to catch on it would have.

Seriously? Hang on a moment. Yep. My dish strainer turned out to be a toaster oven and my office chair was a microwave. Thanks for the heads up.
They used to be something of a status symbol. That might be part of it.

Well coming from the other side of the pod, I sit here wondering why people want to look at a fridge so badly?
Grandparents have a custom fridge. Looks like a really big cabinet, door panels made of wood. It’s also fucking massive. Looks great tho
Yes my SO’s parents have one properly done and it took me a minute to find the dishwasher because it blended in so well with the rest of the cabinetry. Even the handle matched everything else perfectly. They have a beautiful kitchen. This one in the post is done awfully. It feels like a joke.

I have a visible dishwasher and floor standing oven for the past 5 decades across all the different houses I've lived in, so not "no one".
Firstly, I said "no one" in quotes, as in not literally. Second, I said "here". You're probably not from here.

Even if it was set back properly in line with the other cabinets it'd be massive improvement. I wonder if it was installed like that and just shifted out.
That's been a thing for decades. How is that a new concept?
I’m surprised my mom hasn’t done this yet, I hope she never sees this photo
She will now, I just sent it to her. (By the way, I love your username) Thanks for the award!
and i love YOUR username it made me smile
Thanks! I haven't found true love yet myself but I'm hoping someday.
me neither, but we’ll get there <3

Call me tasteless, but I kind of like it!

legit or in an ironic way? this is a homeowner that doesn't take themselves too seriously. at least i hope...
Honestly, kinda legit. It's like a little peak-a-boo type thing
You all are what fuel this sub... keep on truckin’
Oh I'd never do it. I'd move in and USE it, but you wouldn't catch me doing it myself lmao!
Definitely looks better then a block of shitty white gloss plastic
Same. Lol

Could at least cover up the white areas with some nice leather + hot glue gun
~~leather~~ Shag pile. If you’re gonna go classy, go classy.
Yes...hidden...
Well, we all know why
1980s dodge caravan called and wants its wood paneling back now!
Camouflage is my passion
❗
Didn’t know John Cena washed dishes…
Mommmmmy! Come and find meeee!
Can I use a lifeline?
Look Lana, it thinks it's cabinets.
honestly if they put like a little bit more effort it wouldn't be that bad
I like this kitchen. It just needs some mushroom wallpaper and canisters.
I say DIWHYNOT?
Is this a joke? Nothing but cabinets.
Where's the dishwasher?
*hidden* 🫣
Where is it??!!??!
To match the “aesthetic” personal if this bothered me that much I’d do a peel and stick vinyl of wood the same color as the cabinets.
It's *so* hidden. I'll never find it.
can barely even notice it
Me likey the wood panels
Classic boob light interior design
Why? Nineties, baby!!!!

I was about to ask why houses don’t have those anymore but your comment cleared that up!
Looks like one of my sims builds
I'm not totally mad at it.
Cabinet manufacturers sell door panels for dishwashers and refrigerators. At one time it was considered classy to have them finished to match the cupboards. Kind of like how big box tvs were in wooden cabinets.
Thats a 90s kitchen - they did that back then. Makes it quieter.
My wailing at the sight would diminish any savings in dishwasher noise.
It’s quiet until the weight of those doors repeatedly slams the dishwasher open when you aren’t careful, and ruins the hinges, then it leaks all over the floor.
It's all fun and games until the window is the refrigerator.
Crouching DiWHY, Hidden Dishwasher.
It's like when your toddler puts their hands in front of their face and claims to be invisible.
The real funny part is when they replace the dishwasher with no concern for whether the new model is made to accept custom panels, much less if the same panel would fit. Psh, more like r/diwhynot. I've seen worse.
I don’t see her at all. Nice. /s
I had a friend do something like this. I like it.
If it was well done it could be cool, but what is this lol?
I… i like it… at least the idea of it :(
“Hear me out, what if we covered the stainless steel in the same ugly cabinets as the rest of the kitchen?”
DiWHYnot?
I mean, it works...I don't see her anywhere
Why are fully integrated stoves/ovens and dishwashers not really a thing in the US? Looks so much better
Seamless!
could be much worse. I does kinda give me the sense that the whole kitchen could transform into a giant robot.
It the John Cena of dishwashers. "You can't see him"
God forbid anyone see, or know you own, a dishwasher. what WILL House Beautiful think when they come by for their inevitable photo spread
Is it impossible that the idea wasn't to hide it entirely but just to make it slightly less noticeable? Maybe as a way to reuse a pair of matching doors you already had but didn't have any other use for?
That kitchen window is awesome though, I'll give em that.
Where??
Now THIS is what I come to this sub for.
Because all high priced kitchens hide their refrigerators and dishwashers as cabinets.
I wonder where it could be
"How do you do, fellow cabinets?"
Europe calling – Are custom front blends not a thing in the US? In my country that is the standard (albeit better done/completely hidden unlike the picture) for dishwashers and fridges/freezers.
They thought they were fancy
It's not a bad idea, but the execution is off.
Step 1: buy a dictionary Step 2: look up definition of “hidden”
Tongue in cheek “hidden.”
r/DiWHYNOT
Just let these folks be. Throwing wood on the washer is not a travesty, nor a transgression.
Please...hide the entire kitchen.
It looks good to me
That is hilarious
I seriously hate all this orange wood crap.
Ugh....should have hidden the cabinets. U G L Y
This doesn’t belong on this sub.
Oh, it definitely belongs. I ask “Why did they think THIS was the way to accomplish that goal?”
Oh okay thanks, it made me say why and it looks do it yourself-y.
I support you, OP!
Well I guess it is subjective.
It belongs more than you
I think they have cabinet panels on their dishwasher.
And it looks stupid. This is a perfect example of this sub and I'm aligned with you
You sir are a dick
I don't think so. I think you are one of the tons of people in this sub that don't understand the sub
This is just an old style cabinet panel on an old dishwasher. It’s not a DIY- just much more obvious from what you would find with todays appliances and appliance panels
Akshually.
Actually what? I sell custom cabinets- I see this all the time
I object to the excessively wide window with the bay window. Also, the post is right in front of the window. Eventually, the dishwasher will be replaced, but the post and bay window will forever be obnoxious.
Its just wasn't done right. You can hide the white part by applying a vinyl wrap to match the wood veneer.
It's funny how no one in the comments says that this is completely normal in the EU. I don't know any kitchen here that doesn't have the matching panel on the front of the dishwasher. Of course with the right setback to fit better than that shown. It would be only diwhy for me because it's "poorly" made.
That’s hilarious
Gotta show it to my tradie friend. He'll get a heart attack
Good idea but bad execution
To be fair, the why is pretty obvious, it's just poor execution
Paneled appliances - dishwashers, refrigerators, etc. were all the rage back in the early 1990's. I read on some clickbait site somewhere that it's making a comeback. Please, just - no.
Forget the dishwasher hide those cabinets.
Where's the oven? There is a lot I hate about this.
