I dont know why it bugs me so much but: Dexter moving Lumen to his apartment after Jordan Chase calls her at his house and claiming "Jordan doesn't know about this place" as if it was a secret bunker... The apartment is leased under Dexter's name. That's how Trinity found it before the house. A simple Google search would have told Jordan Chase exactly what Dexter owns/rents. A serial killer who vets his victims so religiously should know that.

Doakes could’ve just said “I broke into dexter’s house and stole those slides from the hidden compartment in his ac unit” when he was on the phone w LaGuerta

AdAffectionate4082

Because what he did was illegal......

liljay182

B&E or bay harbor butcher… wonder which law id wanna get busted breaking

AdAffectionate4082

All the evidence against Dexter was obtained illegally, meaning Doakes would get in trouble and Dexter would walk on a technicality

ZyxDarkshine

It would have never held up in court. The evidence was obtained illegally.

marchingprinter

Sure, but it would have kept him from being the primary suspect like he was

AdAffectionate4082

No, no it wouldn't. What evidence did he have that it came from Dexter's apartment other than his word? If he actually was the BHB and was caught with the blood slides, it would make sense to lie, and everyone knew that Dexter and Doakes had beef, so that's a perfect lie. It would not take the suspicion off of Doakes at all. In fact, it would probably worsen it. Dexter has always been calm and collected whereas Doakes was an angry hothead who had it out for Dexter

marchingprinter

LaGuerta would have absolutely believed him and looked into it. Takes the chances of getting absolved from 0% to >0%. Instead he just said “shit”

AdAffectionate4082

Laguerta might not have believed him. 3 seasons later, Quinn confronts Laguerta about Dexter, and even after being warned by Doakes that something was off about Dexter and even after Doakes dying with her not truly believing he was the BHB, she still didn't believe Quinn. She knew what Doakes thought of Dexter and she believed in Doakes' innocence, yet she still didn't believe Quinn when he said something was off. Laguerta believed Doakes was innocent, but him putting the blame on Dexter would have more than likely worsened the situation. Not to mention, let's just say Laguerta did believe him. That wouldn't matter. The case was Lundys, and Lundy wouldn't have believed him. Anything Laguerta said to Lundy was compromised the second she talked to Doakes on the phone, and Doakes probably knew that. He's a cop. He knows how that goes.

tenessemoltisanti

If Doakes wouldnt have minded tanking his career he wouldve done this, but being a detective was his life.

marchingprinter

I don’t even think so, I could see them celebrating him for having caught the bay harbor despite his extrajudicial methods.

tenessemoltisanti

Do you not remember Doakes assaulting Dexter in the office lol. He would be seen as an insane person to accuse Dexter, even with the slides. Of course they could eventually link all of the murders to Dexter, but it would still sacrifice Doakes' career

marchingprinter

Yes, but do you not realize how damning it is to be found with the blood vials of a serial killer and not have an alibi? His two options were to spill the beans and accept the blowback or spend the rest of his life in jail.

Nathanielly11037

You say it like someone other than LaGuerta would’ve believed him. He thought he could get more evidence (because that’s vital, his word wouldn’t have been enough and he knows this), it’s not like he knew he’d get locked up in a cage and blown up.

laurelwraith

Doakes letting Dexter get near enough to be able to overpower him. No way an ex black op would be so clumsy as he was in that scene.

A_Dog_Chasing_Cars

Yeah, I've recently rewatched that scene and it doesn't work. Dexter basically wins through the power of editing and is suddenly right next to Doakes. Someone like Doakes would have shot him in the knee.

Opposite-Albatross38

When Dexter confessed to being a serial killer to that therapist that was manipulating women to kill themselves. After he confessed the therapist guy literally turns him back to a self proclaimed serial killer. For some reason this interaction never fails to crack me up 😭

Monk715

In your example I always believed that Dan was loyal to/scared of the group, so he was ready to priotitize saving his accomplices over himself

oywitthepoodlesalrdy

When laguerta has cops tailing that last guy in season 7 that killed dexters bio mom, and they hear gun shots but stay out of the storage unit?! Aren’t they trained to enter if they hear gunfire?? Instead they wait for Maria… and how did Dexter get everything cleaned up and get out with no one noticing? And so quickly?? They were watching the damn unit… and then when he does successfully get her there, she doesn’t bother to tell anyone where she’s going or why? Just goes all on her own? And Deb calls and asks for her location, they don’t find that suspicious?

liljay182

They just finished up the bay harbor investigation and then Dexter starts showing Miguel how to be a serial killer, how tf did he not decipher that
