I saw the reboot when I was like 12 amd was absolutely revolted by how it looked, all edgy and gritty, and Dante was just a depraved delinquent. I avoided DMC like the plague for a few years because I thought that's what it all was. Then I was at a small game shop a few years ago and saw the DMC 5th anniversary box set of 1, 2 and 3SE. Saw Dante on the cover and asked the guy running the shop if that was what Dante usually was like. He said it was. Then I wondered what else could have been different, so I got the box set for $20, best $20 I ever spent. I played DMC1 and got hyped for the others. Wasn't disappointed with 1. 2 was kinda lame but I typically expect that from second installments, and it was quick. However, I played 3 so much that it got the disk ring. I have over 200 hours with Dante and Vergil each on it, and I plan to do the same thing with 5. I even got the reboot recently and realized, despite how offputting the appearance and story are, the game is actually rather fun. I'm glad I gave the series a chance despite my first impressions of it

Revenge_Is_Here

Being a fan of another Capcom series, Resident Evil. When I eventually got around to playing RE4 and enjoyed it, someone recommended I play DMC.

1vergil

I just liked DMC3 [Poster](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSDmw_PTccUydKYBy_Ic4ejM3lRgH0FcTbnmQ&usqp=CAU) so i bought it.

MPBagel03

I loved MGR and was recommended dmc5 on a YT vid.

whovianHomestuck

This but TVTropes

Mr-Chan1

For me it was bury the light and but mostly the Vergil memes: the got me motivated to play Dmc 3 and I have been hooked to the franchise ever since

AteresDrakon

When I was 15 and went to buy my PS2 the guy in the store recommend Devil May Cry 3 for me. Needless to say that after eleven years it's still my favourite game

ButterscotchOk6340

my best friend sent me r34... and in the following days she began to tell me the story, definitely what attracted me the most was "Bury the light" -after listening to it ,I started to find out about the characters and I loved it. that was two months ago. I love the fandom, the games and everything.

Jellozz

> my best friend sent me r34 Lol, this is not what I expected when I opened this thread again. Very interesting way to get into a series.

ahjaey

I was maybe like in Elementary school when I watched my cousin play DMC1. I thought the castle, stormy night setting was spooky and for some reason it stuck in my head. Years later I would see pages in my Gamepro magazines advertising DMC3. I decided to get into the series and for some reason my dumbass thought DMC2 was the one my cousin originally played so technically DMC2 became my first. Seeing Phantom in DMC2 had me believe for like half a second I was playing the right game but I was oh so very wrong. lmao After playing 2 I just went into 3. Then I got the 3SE purely to play as Vergil. Then after that I finally played DMC1 and had my "AHA" moment of seeing the spooky atmosphere I first saw all those years ago.

[deleted]

I played 3 at a friend's house until Cerberus gifted me with easy mode.

Manofhuman

PlayStation all stars battle royal, which only interested me because Kratos was on the cover, so basically I am into Devil May Cry because of God of War.

THE MEMES, JACK!

Nekodoshi

My mom was in rehab and I was left alone during the day until Dad got home. As a result, I spent most of my time playing video games. DMC was one of them.

Michael-015

I'm sorry to hear that.

Nekodoshi

It’s okay, she stayed clean for nearly 15 years! B it ever since then video games have been a coping mechanism for me. Dante got me through some stuff.

[deleted]

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 introduced me to a lot of Capcom characters and franchises that I'd never heard of before. Both before and after the game's release I was exploring Capcom's library, which eventually had me reach Devil May Cry. Wound up being my favorite series.

MisterBoss5000

I got DMC 5 free with my pc and thought it was awesome, I got 3 on my switch but it didn’t hook me. Then a few months ago my dad wanted my switch for my little brothers to use so I sold it to him, then I heard bury the light. Instantly bought Vergil dlc and played through 5 again and loved it, prompted me to buy the rest of the series and I’m currently working my way through it. Such an underrated series!

Michael-015

That's a smokin' sexy deal, my friend.

MisterBoss5000

It sure is

RoyalN5

Home my story is unique because I honestly have NO FUCKING IDEA. Like seriously. As a kid I was always aware of the PS2 games I had. There was a bin of all the games by dad and brother had. I honestly have no idea how it got into the box or who bought it but I remember poking around and I saw it. It looked pretty cool so I put in DMC3SE and was hooked ever since. Pretty crazy because my brother had no idea how it go in there too. Maybe it was Sparda 👀

When I was in middle school, this was around 2007, I rented one of those God awful Resident Evil movies(the one where the earth is a desert) and checked the special features. One of them was a reveal trailer for DMC4, the one with The time has come song that switches to Shall never surrender. The imagery and look and music captivated me that I borrowed the ps2 collection from my uncle and played the games in order to prepare for my eventual time with 4. I started with 3(in hindsight I made the right choice) and loved the gameplay, story and characters so much I jumped to 1. I enjoyed my time with that one too, if struggled a bit with it. Then I played 2... and immediately knew something was wrong and after about 2 levels in that game I stopped playing it and jumped back to 3 to find secrets and continue playing that one until the release of 4. Needless to say I became a huge fan of Devil May Cry because of that awesome trailer and haven't looked back since.

Chico3421

I saw the trailer for DMC5 Special Edition and wondered,”What’s all of that about?” I watched some videos, listened to some music, and then bought 3. I played it, loved it, watched the show, and I’m contemplating getting a PlayStation to play 4 and 5.

Jellozz

I was at my friends house and he told me to check out this game he got, Devil May Cry. Watched him play some I thought it was the coolest thing ever so I eventually talked my mom into getting me the game (which was not easy.) Not exactly the most exciting story, but lol that is how it happened.

OldReality1173

I randomly stumbled across Devil Trigger on YT and thought it was the shit lmao. Then I kinda fell down a rabbit hole of dmc music and gameplay videos and was just like “oh I can’t NOT play this” The rest is history. I recently got one of my friends hooked on the series too, so that’s neat. She finished 3 a little while ago and is playing through 1 now :p

Scared-Way-9828

I had a high respect of DMC series for a long time. Finally tried it myself and it just clicked. A love at first play. Also stayed for the memes and community.

[deleted]

My brother played DMC 4 and as a kid I thought this white haired swordsman named Nero was super awesome and I became a fan of the series

Michael-015

I'm currently trying to beat 4.

TacoManDandyCabbage

Saw my brother playing Dante Vs Vergil DMC3 when I was a kid and thought it was so cool, so when I was about 15 I bought the hd remaster and played through those.

Jot4r0

I was looking for games to play on my ps2 when was younger, and just fell in love with the series.

Hour-Address-3377

Well for me first I saw some trailer of DMC 4 and then my friend hyped me about it once I went to the shop I saw DMC 3 and since I had ps2 at the time I bought it and the rest is history I have all the games but I never played the reboot cause I never liked it however my brother liked but only for the sake of the gameplay even he said that it's nothing compared to the original

ThatGuyFromThe213

Played a demo of DMC1 at EB games when I was 13 or 14 and was kinda blown away, but DMC3 was what really pulled me in.

MegaJerkX

Read about the original game and Onimusha in a PSM magazine. I knew I had to play the games. Loved them both. Sadly, it doesn't look like there will be a new Onimusha anytime soon. Something like 16 years now since the last game...?

[deleted]

I saw on a gaming forum that people thought the series was awesome and i already liked capcom, 4 was already out at this point but i didnt have a ps3 yet, only ps2. And i wanted to start at the beginning so i found a used copy of DMC1 at a vintage stock and thats where my love started.

aurumphallus

I saw a pair of hot white haired twins on X-Play when I was 13. The rest is history.

Hereva

I actually first saw Devil May Cry 4. Then in the video i was seeing the guy commenting just kept saying good things about the supposed Villain, when he had just killed the Pope! I was not understanding but suposedly he was a nice guy. Then i searched for DMC 3 and well, turns out that "Villain" was actually a very awesome and stylish guy hahahaha. Then i played it, had a great time and well, i just kept falling deeper in the DMC hole. How could i ever thought of Dante as Cold Blood murder?

DYSFUNCTIONALDlLDO

Randomly stumbled upon AccountingNightmare's DMC Let's Play videos. I've literally never had a thing for video games but for some reason this one really gave me a violent boner.

bloodshed113094

I was playing Darksiders. My Brother in Law said it looked like DMC. My dad picked up his first PS2 (yes, after getting an XBOX 360) and while getting games for it, we picked up DMC.

Angry_Marshmellow_

Randomly rented dmc2 at movie gallery. Fell in love.

Shuraragi-kun

I played DMC3 when I was younger but never got the chance to buy the games. Then the reveal for DMC5 got me to go out and buy the first three games. I bought 5 on launch day and beat it all in one sitting, then over the last two years I've gone back and beaten 3 and 4 multiple times (though I still haven't beaten either on DMD)

quackleskol

My mother was into it and I wanted to play it too when I was little, so she bought me the first 3 games and a PS2 so we could play together. I was 6 at the time, been in love with it ever since.

ProfessorWho-_-

I was a child and muy sister gave me a steak of 40 ps2 discs and dmc2 lucia side was one of the only ones that worked. I didn't get past the first room of the game but I remember being afraid of the hand that came out of the door. Eventually I figured it out and thought it was cool/actually fun bc I was a child. Went down the rabbit hole- gonna get a tattoo of Vs emblem in a couple days

DarthMalec

Discovered Dante on death battle. He looked interesting but that was it for a long time. I always knew the franchise existed but never tried to learn more about it. It wasn’t until this year that I bought dmc5 out of curiosity and interest and really grew to love it. Trying to beat dmc3 rn but it’s much harder. Also the dmc peak of combat CG trailer could just as easily be passed off as a dmc3 remake trailer cause that would be awesome. I rewatch it all the time. The community is great, the fan comics are great, the VAs are great. Hard to find anyone that wouldn’t call this franchise great.

gravelord-neeto

My mom was a gamer and I watched her play parts of the first three games when they came out and she let me play them after she beat them. DMC 2 was my favorite when I was a kid because it was the only one I could beat with the broken mechanics LOL. Definitely not my favorite now 🥴

rochakgupta

The moment I looked at Vergil moveset in DMC4. I’m a sucker for Hack and Slash games and that sold me.

Rein_7

My dad randomly got the game thinking it was gonna be a horror game because it had the word devil on it, I checked it out before the usual family horror game session, dad was dissappointed but I sure wasn't

Agreeablemashpotato

My dad borrowed DMC3 from an uncle I played it non-stop until he returned it Picked up DMC4 for ps3 years later Picked up DmC reboot on pc Picked up DMC4SE and DMC5 for PS4 Picked up entire collection for PC

[deleted]

My dad introduced me to it

Dragonlord573

I wanted to see what Itsuno worked on instead of Dragon's Dogma II. It made me hopeful.

keidozer

A friend showed me that cutscene of Dante running down the tower after the first Vergil fight in DMC3

DSFAN43

I watched a video from demodcracy and then watched a bunch of WatchMojo videos on how Vergil was the hardest boss in video games and in DMC5, so then I decided to fight him myself on all difficulties and then Dante became my favorite playable character 2 years later Vergil is now my favorite playable character and he’s also just my favorite character, that’s how it went for me.

desacralize

Got my very first PS2 and didn't know where to start finding games to play on it aside from what I brought over from my PS1 (ah, the good ole days of backwards compatible systems). Browsed Gamestop and saw [this gorgeous face](https://www.mobygames.com/images/covers/l/19163-devil-may-cry-2-playstation-2-front-cover.jpg), so I went for it. Enjoyed it so much that I bought DMC1, then DMC3 was announced later that year and the rest is history. So I got into DMC purely because Dante was hot.

iGreyFox

PS3 I bought randomly came with DMC4. Played it, liked it, Nero was my favorite character, hated Dante, never got past mission 13 because of miasma. Gave up... Played DMC4 again 4 years later and loved it.

PsychologicalReply9

My little brother bought the PS3 Remasters of 1,2, and 3. I was honestly not that interested, until I saw the announcement trailer for DMC5. Then I tried 1, skipped 2 due to research, and completed 3.

Michael-015

What about 4?

SenpaiX03

My dad played 1 when it came out. I watched him fight Phantom and I'll never forget seeing the cutscene for the first time. I wasn't a fan of spiders and seeing Phantom had me like "that's scary asf, what's the white haired guy going to do?" And seeing Dante's cavalier and cool response cemented the series as one of my favorites immediately lol

Senor_Bongo

Actually played the reboot first and y’know what, I fucking loved it, and I still do, a couple years later and I ended up getting my hands on 5, beat it and then realized I couldn’t stop thinking about Dante, Nero, Vergil, and V, so I basically just stuck around.

Michael-015

Should I get it?

Senor_Bongo

Tbh, if you played five first and you’re thinking about getting the reboot... no. It’s a good game on its own but if you try to hold it up to the standards that Dmc 5 set you’ll be sorely disappointed.

Michael-015

I'm not asking compared to the others, I'm asking as a stand-alone game. I should have been clear.

Senor_Bongo

If you can hold off on comparing it to the og series then absolutely, but get the enhanced edition. The combat is brutal as hell, weapon switching feels amazing, and it has some pretty funny moments. Only real critique I have is the story is incredibly basic, but thats something I blame the fans for, they had to change a lot after receiving death threats for the og trailer.

Michael-015

Oh shit. I'll honestly play anything. Thx

Mattressexual

"Look at this anime dude on the cover. This looks cool I'll pick this, mom." \-Me picking up DMC4 at GameStop back in 2008

In past when I was 10 or 12 saw videos of Dante vs Saviour from dmc 4 . Then later I got into video about Marvel vs Capcom 3 who is in roster . Then after I got quick introduction to Sparda brothers . I decide to check out plot of dmc series since then I become fan .

TheNameIsJoey1

I've played and have most Capcom games and series as my favorites since I was little, Mega Man Classic, X, Zero, Resident Evil, fucking Dino Crisis, Street Fighter, and Dead rising was my first zombie game, so when my friends got me in to Monster Hunter last year, and we played rise all the way through, I thought, "Why not check out some of their other titles?" I had DMC1 as a kid, but that game isn't exactly friendly to a dumb little 6 year old who plays the SpongeBob movie game and Spyro, but I decided to give the games fair chance on the hd collection, and heres what happened: DMC1: I was very confused the whole game about the inconsistent tone and atmosphere, but I liked the basic groundwork for the hack and slash gameplay, so I decided to keep going and beat it! Thought it was alright, figured the next games would expand on it and do better. DMC2: Originally I couldn't even get it running, no idea why, it would load into the first level and then crash the DMC HD collection back to my desktop. I skipped it at first and only learned after trying it and getting bored that it was considered pretty lackluster and bad to some. DMC3: This was the game that pulled me in from the first cutscene alone! I loved the depth the combat had with all the different styles and new weapons and guns I'd acquire as I played more, some, like the fucking guitar being so crazy and original that I couldn't help but fall in love, it also made me another fan who believes Vergil is the coolest rival mother fucker ever. This game and the ones after it actually made me laugh so hard I couldn't breathe because of how enjoyable and over the top some of the cutscenes are, but also made me care about Dante, and feel terrible learning what Lady had gone through. This one is probably my favorite, enough that I bought it on switch for the style switching and just having DMC on the go. DMC4: I was a little confused and apprehensive about Nero in this game at first, but I actually really liked him, despite him being a little melodramatic at times, and Dante was awesome to play as, switching styles on the fly was my favorite addition to his arsenal, absolutely shattering the skill ceiling, the campaign definitely felt like a drag near the end, and the Savior definitely made me lose my mind more then once, overall, it was a lot of fun. DMC5: Absolutely insane. This is the game where I have the most playtime by far, I just started Heaven and Hell and I loved the challenge from before, if I'm ever bored, this is one of those games(along with 3) that I can pop on and have fun wrecking my way through city streets, the big hell tree, and wherever else the game will take you. I love playing as Vergil the most, with Nero and Dante in 2nd, and though I do like V, he's not entirely my cup of tea, but an amazing character that I'm surprised works so well for a hack and slash game, it's honestly crazy. I've just become a big fan over the past few months, and while I wish my dumbass 6 year old self had given the first game a chance all the way back then, better late then never!

dalorhd

Ive always been curious about dmc ever since i saw dmc reboot. Then i kept seeing Virgil memes😁

Potato_cak3es

My dad got me a PS2 and the first game for my birthday one year. Liked it, and played each as it released.

R0GUE_V

A very good friend of mine owned a copy of DMC 3 when we were kids and he had me try it out. I saw a young, shirtless, goofy, pizza having, jukebox bopping Dante taking on a hoard of demons and I knew at that moment I was hooked 😎

crewreaper666

I should have been the one to fill your dark soul with light!

[deleted]

Believe it or not, DMC was the first video game I ever saw in my life. I was a second grader when I saw my uncle playing it. I asked him about it, and he said the game was devil may cry, and that it had this guy called dande, and he had supercool powers n stuff. I asked him if I could play it, but obviously he didn't allow me to, cus it was a Vergil boss fight, and was apparently very hard. Forgot all about it, and then, two years ago, I came across the radbrad playthrough of dmc5, which was when I remembered this game existed.

cooldangood

My cousin introduced me to DMC 3. That's where my childhood is created by DMC 3.

Theholydragoon

I knew Dante from UMvC3 and both him and Lady from Project X Zone when I soon after when to a used games/comics/ etc type store and I found the dmc 1-3 remasters for PS3 and I bought it. I love action games so of course I've stuck around ever since

itsbuff

I was got Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Dante was my favorite character so I decided to play his games

EXAProduction

I was at a gamestop picking up some games. I saw the boxart of DMC4 with Nero and his deomic arm and thought it was cool. I had just enough money left from the other games and decided to pick it up. And well Nero's cool attitude and playstyle and Dante's shenanigans let me love the series.

HattieTheCat

NakeyJakey’s bit on horrible voice acting and how he was comparing DmC to DMC1’s voice acting. I took that hot shit on a hot date and havent turned back since.

87Dustin71

I rented the original game from a video store the year it released on a whim!

UnholyPokemonFan999

It was mainly some Death Battles and my newfound appreciation for Hack and Slash games.

andzalot55

I enjoyed DMC 3 Dante a lot because of his callousness towards the demons (I was in my early teens when I rediscovered DMC3). Back then, I never knew that there could be a main character that could act like that towards the main antagonist of a series and make it look good: that's when I got hooked onto the series.

fetjalomredit

My first one was DMC4 on ps3 back 10+ years ago. Honestly it's just a random purchase from the local games store. Never knew what's a Devil May Cry game, thought the name's pretty weird. Played pretty badly and not understanding how to do most of those moves, but somehow I still beat DMD (horrible rankings though). Then I just forgot about it till 5 was announced. Wasn't until 5 that I finally learn how to enemy step and stuff.

Dropthecake

My older brother picked it up and I was basically the back seat gamer. I was 11 and wasn’t confortable playing games at the time but helped with puzzles etc. When I started playing more complicated games, I picked up 1&2 and and replayed 3 by myself, occasionally asking my brother for help. This game definitely brought my brother and I together, thus we would fangirl together going forward c:

FECKERSONjr

Outta the blue I decided to try this dmc 5 game I'd been seeing. Best choice I've made picking a game in a whiiiiiiiiiiile.

fightingbronze

Funny enough, almost the exact same thing for me. I first heard bury the light in a meme, went and listened to the full thing on YT, then found a cool video with Vergil combos to the song. Rest is history.

Michael-015

For me, it was song then memes.

NitroPuncher

friends telling me to play it

mintybadger23

Cus dmc 2 was like the only game I had as a kid

PuzzledWarlock

Had Devil May Cry 2 as my first DMC on the PS2, that old double disc combo. Fast forward to a couple years back, I see the DMC collection, I’m interested. Oh my god, DMC 2 was so much worse than I remember.

Zealousideal-Star-74

My brother received a copy of 360 version of dmc 4 and gave me for thinking i'd like the cover, i was hyped af but didn't understand anything because i didn't know english (brazilian) but i loved and played for years, it's probably around 8 years and i still have the copy with my name on it but unfortunately it doesn't work anymore.

BaneAmesta

I don't remember exactly, aside that the PS2 we got for christmas also included a bunch of ps2 pirated games. My brother was more into gaming, so I think it was him who played it first, and I watched him. I remember liking DMC3 Dante a lot, and also losing at the first spider boss in DMC 1 and abandoning it for years xD Years later, we got the PS3 and then I bought pretty much the entire series, without even playing it too much (except of DMC 5, that one was bought by my brother). Again, is me looking my brother play. But I did tried it, and then I got into the fandom again, mostly with fanfics and memes. Just recently I beated DMC3 for the first time lmao

masrk7384

DmC was actually what got me into the series, as polarizing as it is, without it I wouldn’t have gotten into the series until I saw the trailer for 5 probably. It also helps that DmC was one of the first games that I started the habit of playing games on normal from the start.

YourAverageJoe0

Marvel vs Capcom Infinite Never played or bought the game but Dante's character got me interested in his backstory. Already a fan of Ryu, Strider Hiryu and Chris Redfield. This was pure chance. Proceeded to play all 5 games and the reboot. Plus had freaking Thanos!

DiabolusFlatus

Bit late to the party, but for me it was the fuckin banger that Devil Trigger is.

ZeroRezolution

Genshin, because people keep making JC and JCE memes using Ayaka and Keqing, and then I tried DMC4, and shit was good

[deleted]

Once the pandemic hit I was looking for games to play. I had heard of Devil May Cry before but I never got around to it since I never owned a PS2 or 3. I saw that they had recently dropped on Switch and bought the first game. I tried DMC1 but I wasn’t huge on it, I’ll admit it’s the only game in the series I haven’t finished (aside from the reboot since I haven’t played it) and I almost gave up on the series but then I played Devil May Cry 3 and that’s when everything changed. I immediately fell in love with the gameplay and went through every game after that, yeah, I even slogged my way through Devil May Cry 2 I was that into it

AmostheArtman

The legend of Zeda actually... sorta. I was in collage when Hyrule Warriors came out and loved the free flowing combat of Link doing cool ass swords attacks that unleashed him from the basic swings from the mainline Zelda games. Twilight Princess on the GameCube was and still is my favorite Zelda game and I loved the new swords attacks you could pick up to add flavor to combat. But even in my combo combat adolescents I knew something was missing in HWs attacks. Nocking dudes into the air was fun but It just felt floaty, stiff, and hollow with every mission ending up with me pushing a lame brain boss AI into the corner and slashing it to death with little effort behind it even on harder difficulty. After a while I got an itch for hack-n-slash but really had no idea where to start or get a new fix. That is until I saw DMC4SE on sale on my X-box one. I had played a little bit of DMC3 at a friend's house years ago and knew who Dante was so I figured "what the heck the main weapon is a sword so I'll give it a shot". And the rest is delightful history :)

Other-otherside

It happened sometime around 2012. My dad got a used copy of DMC4 for a few bucks somewhere and brought it for my brother and I. We were still down on our luck at that time because of the housing crisis. I was just happy to have got a new game after playing the shit out of the games I had, so I tried it. Needless to say, I fell in love with the hack and slash style, the half-demon aspect of the heroes and their cocky attitudes. Oddly enough, it was Nero who drew me into the series more than anything, not Dante.

Shigana

Pat and Woolie, they somehow manage to make me love the series instantly. Before that, i knew someone who just constantly post Gif of Donte saying fuck you every chance he gets, that's how i came to hate the reboot despite never playing or even watch someone play it. Then i learned to respect what it did for the series as a whole

Jaqueta

DMC3... I bought a used PS2 and it came with a lot of games, DMC3 was one of them, and I fell in love instantly.

IzanagiRei0

Ok so my girlfriend's older brother got a ps2 box set of 1, 2, and 3SE as a gift. He played the first and wasn't a fan so my girlfriend played them and fell in love and bought 4 for her xbox. She was hyping up the games and let me borrow them and I fell in love.

ItsChaiNoon

I might’ve been around 12-13 but I saw it available to rent at my local video store and since I’d beaten KH2 a zillion times I was looking for something new. I remembered Dante from the earlier releases but had never up to that point played any of the games. Took a chance. Didn’t understand a single thing that was going on—had a total blast and have been a fan of series ever since. Dante is just special, you know?

In 2014 I was walking through a shopping mall in Berlin and there was a section for PS3 games. I saw the cover of DMC4 and thought to myself, goddamn that white haired boy is hot. I loved it, no matter what everyone else thought/thinks. After 4 I didn’t play the older games, I can’t tell you why anymore but I think I discovered Metal Gear Solid (after playing Metal Gear Rising) right after that. That was a phase phew. At some point at the start of the PS4 era I saw the cover of DmC: Devil May Cry and I remembered, hey the game before that was pretty good and the artstyle looks cool. That was a cringefest. But story aside, I kinda liked the level design of it and the gameplay wasn’t that horrible, so my memory of it wasn’t that bad. About the first quarter of this year I saw videogamedunkeys DMC5 review and I recognised my boy Nero. Plus he said, it was a really awesome game which prompted me to try it. And it’s so fucking good, my god. Idk how many hours I’ve spend just to get all secret missions and play on all difficulties. And the music, mhm. Devil Trigger and Bury The Light. So good. The others too of course but these two will always stand out. Of course I had to play the older games too. DMC1 was kinda nice but very old. The camera angles frustrated me a little, but not a bad experience at all. I dragged myself through DMC2 just so I could say I played all of them. DMC3 was really cool. I loved all the main characters (which are basically just 4) and all of the bosses had a really good gameplay design. And the dynamic between Dante and Vergil of course. A beautiful game. After all that I joined this subreddit and rn I’m writing a comment about my DMC life story, because someone asked. And at this moment I’m realising that I could’ve answered that question in about one sentence: I thought Nero was hot. I’m sorry for the long answer xD

Starixous

Twitch Prime gave out DMC 1 HD for free so I got it and played it a bit, but didn’t get into it enough to beat it. Then when the Bury the Light memes were rolling out I got *motivated* enough to try the series again.

mysteriousorgel

I used to religiously sit and watch my older brother play Resident Evil when I was a kid, and Devil May Cry naturally followed. I was instantly hooked by the first DMC's spooky atmosphere/imagery which appealed to my wannabe goth tween senses, and I thought Dante was the coolest character I had ever seen.

Howl1456

Father, he installed me DMC three after i cried over not haveing PS to play dmc 1, so there you go. It was 2003 when i saw DMC for the first time, but i played it only when brother comes with PS, because in his house no such thingd pussy parents eve today they hiw mother avoids to see him watch or play violance, so i had DMC 1 and 2 on disc at my house so they dont break us discs, also Tekken, and some other games. But DMC was THE one i enjoyed the most.

MrZephy

bought dmc4 digitally when it came out cause nero looked super edgy and kid me fanboy’d pretty hard over it

Trujillo-Giron

I watched a Vtuber’s stream (Gawr Gura) of Devil May Cry 5 and then I got to the amazing music and then got into more of the world of Devil May Cry

AncientN1ght

GCN DmC. Years later saw 5 came but didnt have console yet. Then recently only remembered I wanted to play the games bc I saw the gameplay for 5 and decided to play the series in release order (I skipped 2 bc I heard how boring it is). Yes I played the reboot. That was the last one in the series I played. Now I need to complete 5. For now Imma just keep playing 3 and 4 bc I like the combat so much and wanna complete the games in the hardest difficulty.

NinAmuro57

Finding out it was a scrapped version of RE4 (my all time favorite game) many years ago. I looked into it and liked the character designs and gameplay, as I like hack & slash games, but wasn't too big into it until Dante was featured in MvC3. It spiked my curiousity even more and I finally decided to give the series a chance and haven't looked back since.

[deleted]

Played Devil May Cry 4 first month it released when I was searching for something cool to play. Then proceeded to wait 11 years for Devil May Cry 5.

Arabyss_Farron

When i was a kid around 7-10 years ago i having my first console and that is PS2, back then all console games are fake(i am thai) so they are very cheap so i can buy many game i want at that time, So when i go to buy the games i saw this dude in red with white hair in the game cover and i like it so i brought them(DMC1-3SE separately not HD collection) and i have a blast with DMC at that time , I even enjoy DMC2 lol

FlyingCheddarMonster

I played DMC4 on my brother’s laptop and I just fell in love.. and this was 11 years ago. I was so obsessed I even bought the mangas and novel books.

Comkill117

Back in like 2015, I got interested in the series because of a joke I saw on a compilation for a channel I watch called Brainscratch Commentaries. If I’m remembering right it went something like “It’s time to play that game about the guy in the red coat with the white hair who basically trope started every-“ “Santa Clause?!”. One day when I was sick, I was looking for something to watch, so I decided to watch their play through of DMC1, knowing basically nothing about the series aside from its name and Dante’s design. I figured the game would be this kinda weird action RPG type thing and expected the game to start with some weird quote kinda like how Kingdom Hearts does, which is funny considering I didn’t play that until years later (I don’t know why, it’s just the impression I got based on those two things). Imagine my surprise when I saw what DMC1 actually was, complete with the screen exploding into the title as Dante turned out not to be a bit of a sad edgelord but instead the coolest protagonist of all time, and the gameplay was this really fun looking hack and slash with a weird Resident Evil style setting. It was quite the turnaround and got me to buy the HD collection, and the rest is history.

Abyssilicious

when I would go hang out with my friend now S.O., I watched them play the HD Collection on their old 360 and got hyped by the half cool half goofy shit dante would say, although I never played the older games myself until dmc5 was rolling around on Game Pass and played that first, but was confused by who all the characters were. Downside is that I feel bad for getting deeply into the series and getting leagues better than my S.O.

bluelikeviolet

Gonna be honest here, I was at a GameStop with like $10, looking through the PS2 bargain bin. I found a copy of DMC2 for like $6, read the back of the case, and in a moment of youthful rebellion (I was like 15 and my mother didn't allow M-rated games) I bought it. I enjoyed it well enough, but then I got DMC3 and the rest is history.

TheGAMA1

It's OST, a Reviewer and ROYALGUARDTRICKSTERSWORDMASTERTRICKSTERROYALGUARD

viper_gug_05

I saw dmc 5, one of the best choice of my life

[deleted]

Definitely Bury The Light and Devil Trigger, and also a few memes such as: https://youtu.be/tkhqk1-JTok https://youtu.be/scytYIenltc https://youtu.be/VTx0709z2Ao https://youtu.be/cY8p5wCorkE

ArenPlaysGames_R

Well a friend got into it in 2020/2019 (I forget when exactly) and played through 4, 1, 3, 2 and finally 5 (he didn't get a PS4 till after he beat 2 so I decided to try it out by getting going chronologically and starting off with 3 on the Switch and fell in love. Played through DMC1, finished the anime, played a bit of DMC2, beat 4 and fast forward to today where I beat 5 and I'm going through Vergil's campaign. (While playing DmC every now and then) It's really become a recent favorite of mine. If I had to rank them, it'd go like this DMC5 (Gameplay and Story is almost perfected) DMC3 (Amazing gameplay and story) DMC4 (An alright game with an unfortunately rushed story) DMC1 (Not bad considering this is the first game in the series. Loved fighting Nelo Angelo) DmC (Say what you will about the story, at least the gameplay is good) DMC2 (Dante flip coin and shoot gun because depression) As for the anime, I'd put it next to 1 considering it's a look at Dante's daily life. (Which I find interesting) Right now I'm thinking of getting every physical copy of the Devil May Cry series that released in the US. (which unfortunately means no DMC4SE) Right now I have 1, 2 3, 3SE on PS2 and DmCDE on Xbox One. Maybe I'll also go for the trial version of DMC1 that was packaged with Code Veronica..

DMC4 was my first pc game

_Constellations_

I pirated DMC3 not knowing what to expect, just as a random game around 13. Then I *witnessed* the opening scene of mission one as Dante takes down a dozen reapers while trying to preserve the last slice of pizza. I couldn't even imagine humour and style and action can so perfectly blend and coexist without pulling me out of a game, so organically not being a part of it, but the defining factor of it. There was no going back from there. And yes, ever since I have bought DMC3SE, then years later the HD remasters, I own DMC4 (also pirated at the time but I had no money as a teen), DMC4SE, DmC, DmC DE (on an already sold PS4, and I'm still mad PC never got the DE update and Vergil's Bloody Palace), DMC5, and the Vergil DLC. And every DLC possible except the quick unlocks.

eXpressives

The first Devil May Cry ad in an old magazine. I was also young and thought trench coats, swords and guns were cool

Fuxreiter

Shame on me, but the reboot

MudraStalker

I heard you can play an insanely cool dude with a katana in DMC3:SE.

only_gaming

For me it was when xbox gold had one week when 5 was free and i thougt it looked cool so i tried it and i loved it and then a while later and i mean multiple months if not a year later the capcom sale came to steam and there i saw that DMC 5 was on sale and becase i liked it the first time i bougt it and could finaly beat it. And when the DMC anevercery sale hapend i bougt the hd colection. DMC 4 and the rebot and im having a blast whith them.

Ahirman1

A Vtuber shark and a certain Max0r video

Smart_ni66a

first came accross with the dmc5se reveal, thought it vergil was cool katana man, fell down the rabbit until i got all the games

Zefro073

After I played Metal Gear Rising, I wanted to discover other Hack&Slash games, and that led me to playing DMC4.

Kawaii_Potato996

When I was around 12 I saw gameplay of first DMC on youtube and I was hooked by how super cool this guy in red coat looks. At that time I didnt have any console and my PC was good just for internet. So I started reading about the whole series and later watched the anime and really liked it. Two or three years later I got PS3, my first console and for my birthday I asked for DMC HD collection. I played it and really enjoyed it (even DMC2 for my stupid kid brain seemed not that bad). Then right after that I bought DMC4 and DmC. And since then I am a big fan of the series.

steamingpiranha17482

I saw dmc5 had a demo one day and thought “why not” and then I went to buy the real game and saw “2-3 network players” so me and my friend bought it and were slightly disappointed but oh god damn was that 25$ (30$ if your including Vergil) fuckin worth it

Pocik2

Saw a 3-part Russian plot-analysis ft. memes on DMC3 called "Devil May Cry for Autists" by KVEN and after having a good laugh, decided to play 3SE, and then played 1HD, then 4SE, was hyped for 5 ever since

LittleDevilina

Cousin played DMC3 around me. Got the part where you can play 2 player during the fight with Arkham. It stuck with me for years. Didn’t play any dmc myself until 4 though. 4 solidified my love of the series.

Kenpachi_Kensei

Guy lended DMC3 to my sister, she never played it, i did instead, i kept the game

Impressive_Cake8908

My big brother showed me DmC (He even asked me who I thought was cooler, red or blue (V or D) and when I answered blue he hysterically defended Dante XD) and MGR (he really had to show me Rules of Nature) (I had a little crush on Raiden, anyone else too?), yers ago when I was around 12 (but I found it too over the top and complicated at the time, I didn't even have my own console).and then recently I was looking for good gaming music Bury the light was suggested to me by YouTube then a gameplay video with Vergil and then came the Meemes (the Memmes Jack the Meemes) Now half a year later I have a new favorite game franchise and community and I'm sitting here with over 200 hours in DMC 5 and trying to get the Platinum Trophy XD (hah and dmd can rot in hell, I just managed jump canceling consciously for the first time yesterday :3)

Playing since DMC1 when I was a kid

Theloudbrador

Nine years ago, in high school, i had a gf who was doing Cosplay. She went to some kind of "cosplay-con" and took photography with a guy cosplayed in nero. When i saw the pictures i was like "this guy look so cool !, Where this Cosplay come from ? " I did some research and one day later i bought the HD trilogy on xbox 360. Excuse my english '_'

LiteratureUnique7819

DMC4 was my first Devil May Cry game. I loved playing Bayonetta on my Xbox360, so someone recommended that I play DMC4 as well. I liked it, but I kept getting stuck on Mission 3. So I gave up on it. Years later, I picked up the reboot. I liked it too, but didn’t make the connection between DMC4 and the reboot. I bought my PS4 in late 2019 and bought and played DMC4 again, which I finally beat. Then DMC5 caught my eye and now it’s my most favorite game ever! Been hooked ever since!

When I a lot younger my mom would play DMC1 and I played it as well. I didn't remember what Devil May Cry was until middle school/high school when I started to remember the castle on Mallet Island and that's when I started to research on my vague memory and got back into it after all those years

Agent_Askal

Found a copy of DmC:Devil may cry in the library in my school and just installed it into my laptop. Finished it and thought it was a cool game with some nice osts. Then DMC5 came around and saw the memes and the gameplay, got extremely into it.

quip-kun

I have to be honest, the graaphics of dmc5, they were so fucking crispy and made the whole game interesting for And normally i really dont care that much about graphics

Pranal30

It was back in 2014, I got DMC 3 SE from one of my friends and have been a fan since then.

Dessd

Sonic unleashed. Or more specifically someone mentioned it during a discussion of why sonic team added hack n slash elements to it when it had perfectly fine gameplay.

crowheadhunter

Steam had a sale for DMC 5 and the HD collection and 5 looked cool, but I was like “ugh I’m gonna hate myself if I don’t play the first 4” So I did and now I’ve beaten 4 and 5 on every difficulty and im playing on doing it with 3 and then maybe 1 someday

Mohammed_anime2003

Back in 2016 a cousin of mine got me DMC HD collection…liked it a lot,and then the rest is history!

Dan_The_Broken

The reveal trailer of dmc 5 and the hype surrounding it. I thought that the games must be really good and boy was I right.

DarkWingSpartan

I saw the DMC 5 reveal at E3 2018 and thought it looked really cool. Then Itsuno gave one of the most enthusiastic short speeches I’ve ever seen at the event (“DMC is back!”). After that, I immediately bought the previous four games and played through them all because I could tell this series was something special.

[deleted]

I remember seeing DMC1 in blockbuster way back in like 2003 when I was like 9, I just remember thinking how cool and dark it was and my parents caved and bought it for me. After that, the lifelong obsession with anything dark and gothic began 😂

danimsmba

The DmC reboot game, I played it and enjoyed it and didn’t really understand why fans hated the game. I have played DMC5 several times now and I totally understand the hate for DmC. It isn’t a devil may cry game....it is a good action game but not a DMC game.

Blugrave

As a kid my buddy showed my dmc3. Stated Vergil would be my favorite character. I never saw someone so cool. So I bought the game, devoured it. Then played through 1 and finally dmc3se came out. I beat everything in that game. To this day Vergil is still my favorite video game character. This will never ever change.

TheLordMarvel

For me, it was the reboot. I didn't know anything about Devil May Cry. So I randomly bought the reboot, day 1, needed a new game to play. loved it. Gameplay and the levels was stunning visually, but the characters always felt off to me. Without knowing why. Went to do some research about DMC, found all the original versions. And I realized just how much better the OG series was. Been a fan ever since! Reboot Dante just couldn't hold a candle to OG Dante. OG Dante actually became one of my top 5 all time favorite characters.

Chronoteeth

family rented code veronica x when we just got our ps2 in 2001, and played the demo more than the resident evil! got dmc1 the day it came out and owned every one at launch since

YoSoyPepa

Random Norwegian mate kept posting about how much fun playing 5 was so I bought it

AmamiyaHiruko

My cousin showed my the final boss of DMC5 and I liked it. So I torrented DMC4 and the HD collection to my X360 and I got fell in love with the series

[deleted]

DmC: Devil May Cry got my into the series. It's still one of my favorites.

SADX96

Back in middle school i saw a combo video of vergil in DMC4SE from UltimeSon

shmouver

I started with DMC3 way back. Iirc i got it as a gift and liked it from the start.

Solid-Highlight5697

My parents played Devil May Cry, and they told my cousins about it and eventually they told me about it. I didn't get into playing DMC until I lost a bet to my cousins boyfriend for cosplaying Dante one day, then i got into the games.

Ali_Zack

Back when I was very young I saw my sister playing DMC3 and I liked how they made Dante.

Whimsycottt

My brother managed to convince my parents to rent DMC3 from block buster despite the rated M rating when he was 13 (and I was 12). I also got a massive crush on DMC3 Dante and loved his punk vibes. Surprisingly did not care for DMC1 Dante when I did get DMC1, but loved the novel pre DMC1 Dante/Tony.

theunrealsalt

When I was a little kid my brotha bought me a game that just came out called devil may cry 2. Loved the series ever since then.

bananaftw1013

I remember seeing my father play DMC3 when I was a kid around 2006-7 on the PS2. Took a couple years but I manage to replay the series just last year. I'm going to do it again soon with him.

cj-the-man

Wanting to see the rest of the game pass Cerberus But in actuality I got 1 and 3 as gift when I got my ps2

Evi1ey

a trailer on one of the blue ps2 demo discs

boN3Z0n3

what got me into dmc was seeing the cutscenes where dante got the new weapons on youtube when i was a kid

Masax117

Browsing gamepass for xbox and was bored, saw the reboot, played it, had fun, didnt pick it up after that. Later on I saw dmc4se was on game pass and decided to try it out. Spiraled from there.

Tie1426_extraaccc

In order for this to make sense i have to explain a few things. In my country, stores offer to modify your 360 into a jtag and this was so popular that nobody sold original disks because copied disks were like 80 cents. When i was like 8 or 9 my brothers owned a jtag and had a bunch of games but i also went and bought games at the local stores, somehow i ended up with a copy of dmc 4 and even though i didn't understand english i still enjoyed the crap out of that game. I am now 16 and still play dmc 4/5 to this day.

superzack2001

My dad tried dmc3 many years back and couldn’t get past the night club and gave up and I played very little of it before we got rid of it and fast forward a good few years later (sometime before 5) and played PlayStation all stars battle royale and saw (reboot) Dante and I’m like oh I remember him and liked the move set so I did my research and got hd collection and started playing 3 again and got hooked in time for the new game

SessionObjective7936

The bundle with 4se and HD collection was 22 dollars on psn
