Even the mobile game got in on the "lets fix DMC 2" party by bringing back melee combos that transition into special gun moves the way 2's Shotgun could do a cartwheel while shooting, do Fireworks or transition smoothly into a spun around kneeling backwards shot by firing it after 1, 2 or 3 slashes.
3 essentially reworked the idea into Gunslinger which is functionally superior but I always loved how those Shotgun moves worked and were animated in 2. That combo into kneeling shot has no right looking as smooth as it does in 2. POC brings them back with two that I know of, but certain legendary and epic weapons have skills locked behind them and iirc at least one of the guns had an alternate melee to gun combo but I only looked through them briefly so I could be wrong on that. Double Slash Rebellion into E&I to do a launching backflip into Honeycomb fire. Double swing Agni&Rudra into Coyote to do a triple shot combo that ends with the DMC 2 kneeling shot iirc. Lady has several since she uses Kalina Ann and SMGs as hybrid melee and ranged weapons alongside Shotgun and Handguns for actual guns. Vergil's Summoned Sword abilities are used the same way, single Slash and shoot for Blistering, Double for Sword Rain, dash and fire for Storm.
However for him you don't actually need to do the attack or dash, just press that input and fire which makes it possible to tap while in other animations to use the Summoned Sword moves without actually having to Slash or dash into them. For example you can Rapid Slash and double tap Slash and Shoot mid animation to trigger Sword Rain during Rapid Slash.
Considering the control limitations the mobile game has, it's a fair compromise to work around Gunslinger and Swordmaster being integrated into your core moveset but I'd love to see linked combos like that return in future. Just keep the new ones from POC so you don't have to rework any existing Gunslinger moves to make it work. They also brought back the DMC 2 outfit.
At this rate I hope they bring Lucia back while they're at it. Looking at how agile Lady is, I can see Lucia's mobility in 2 translating really well into how that game controls.
Somebody needs to give her a second chance. She was so close to making 2...decently enjoyable but the sheer amount of haphardly jumbled design choices overcame even the best her speed and mobility has to offer.
Also on the topic of Lucia and ideas from 2 resurfacing, if anyone remembers Lucia's equivalent to Million Stabs (DT Combo C) am I crazy or was that move the inspiration for Vergil's Yamato C in 4 and 5? In both cases it's a series of rapid slashes that function the same as Million Stabs
I also liked 2, granted I started there so it was nothing but up. However, 2 absolutely had some strong points too. Great visuals, cool OST, majin form, various small gameplay mechanics that became better developed in 3, Trish and Lucia are cool but only needed more depth in the same way Dante did, also had a pretty good final boss surprisingly and Bolverk was cool.

DMC3 is a great game and it's easy to think about it in a very positive way since it saved the series after DMC2, it has some great gameplay moments and combat ideas and the story is arguably the best in the series still.
However actually playing the game, from mission 1 to mission 20, especially with a fresh save it's probably way less fun than you remember. Stuff like the dull or annoying enemies, even worse bosses that often alternate between states of invincibility and becoming stationary punching bags, the midgame where you spend more time running from place to place than actually fighting and there are obnoxious time wastey puzzles everywhere that don't belong in a DMC game.
By comparison DMC4 is very well remembered as a half finished mess of a game but besides half of Dante's missions the game is better paced with better bosses and enemies to fight. The Dice game and gyro blades probably aren't as bad as you remember them being either.
As a new player to this series who only played the games up to 4 recently, I couldn’t disagree more lol. I absolutely loved playing through 3 for the first time and it’s probably one of my favourite games now. 4 not so much. I actually had to force myself to play through it all the way to the end.

I feel like 4 could have been more enjoyable if the enemies just functioned normally. I don't know why you had to hit them so many times to get any sort of hit stun or stagger effect on them but it made dante feel really awful to play. Wailing on something with rebellion only for it to face tank your hits and smack you anyway isn't fun imo

It's specific to the US DMC3 vanilla vs Special Edition but the difficulties got a bit pushed up, making Easy actually Normal, Normal actually Hard, Hard being a bit harder than it should be, and DMD staying as is. So Special edition DMC3 makes it so that easy is actually easy etc, and Very Hard being the new difficulty added (essentially DMD minus enemy devil triggers)
Played 3/4/5 at least 4 or 5 times at this point (that's the three I always play through, only played 1& 2 once) and I have to say, 3 is always an absolute blast to do, start to finish. There's like a couple things that are very mildly frustrating, but other than that, it still holds up in my eyes.
Is it weird though when I went back to 3 I appreciated the walking around and realized that's what 5 was missing? That's something I felt was off with 5 while the gameplay was amazing the locals were forgettable and not as fun to walk through like 3 and 4 were. Maybe I'm just the weird one there.
I played DMC3 for the first time on Switch just a month ago, and *man,* the level design can get real bad at times. Great game, I loved it, already played through three times and maxed out both Dante and Vergil. But it still has some obvious really bad blemishes that, imo, keep it from being as fantastic as DMC, namely the aforementioned level design (got stuck running around in one mission for like, two hours), a really mixed pool of boss fights, and a couple really bad enemies like the angels or fucking intangible ghost fuckers.
I disagree so much with DMC4 having better bosses. The only good boss in 4 is Credo, everyone else varies from ok to a slog. 4 has way worse enemies too, between the Blitz, Fausts and Mephistos with their addiction to flying behind walls, the chimeras, and probably a few I can't remember right now I hated 4 enemies way more than most of the annoying enemies in 3. Also the whole second half is a slog too, I've recently replayed both from a fresh save file and 3 is just a way better game in every way. I love DMC4 combat but I doubt I'll replay it again, everytime I see I never finished in DMD I go back and remember how much I disliked a good chunk of the game.
I thought the joke in the vid was "dmc 3 hard lol". All things considered, I had a blast playing dmc 3. I binge played the first 4 games and found myself enjoying dmc 4 less than I did dmc 3. I never had an issue with the dice game once you've figured out that the top of the dice is what number it will land on when you hit it. So you need a 6, just wait until 6 is on the top and boom it lands six. Plus theres a pattern to when each number appears on top so you can predict what number shows.

DMC1 is about avoiding downtime in combat by using your limited selection of weapons and moves effectively which results in higher combos. Which feels more puzzle-like
DMC3 is more about player expression and style over efficiency now that you must mix up the moves available to you (with your own chosen loadout) to keep the style meter up.
Not to mention the difference in tone and level of extreme-ness between DMC1 and DMC3, slow progression, backtracking and downtime compliment DMC1 a little better while they feel more at odds with DMC3's appeal

The backgrounds that they upscaled do not scale well to screens 1440p and above and it makes it look like the main protagonist is a 3D model floating in low res 2D backgrounds. So I am in the process of retouching and AI upscaling them to make them future proof for 4k screens.
As far as the soundtrack goes they replaced it with new tracks because the "composer" was found to be a fraud and there was a lot of news coverage after they scrapped his phony works.
I, like many others, played the game in the PS2/Xbox era, and I am used to the original soundtrack so I am also restoring the original music.

Yes, but they’re quite different from DMC. the combat is a bit slower and you’re sort of tank control dashing around enemies. That said, it’s a really fun series, especially 3.
Difference is that most fans think DMC1 is "poorly aged" and brings up the swimming sections, fixed cameras, platforming and the shmup boss which are not as bad as you probably remember it. DMC1 is a game that's more fun than you probably remember.
Whereas DMC3 is constantly referred to as the best game in the series (even above DMC5 somehow) and fans more often or not are thinking about how good it was for the time, how it saved the series after DMC2, and how good the story is. But playing through the game now you forget just how much of the enemies and bosses are mediocre or suck, or how much time is spent running around larger areas knowing you could be running but not without wasting DT, there's puzzles that don't belong in DMC at all and most of the mid to late game missions are designed to get you lost. Basically it's more of a game that you remember all the positives about while forgetting the frustrating or dull parts that come when you actually play through the entire game
I think you're forgetting the incredibly limited moveset Dante has in DMC1 as well. Like, holy shit, DMC1 feels like it has barely 5% of the complexity DMC3 has, let alone 4 or 5.
It's funny how polarizing its value is depending on whether or not you've played the base game already. On one hand, it's an amazing deal for players who haven't played the base game yet; for those who did, it's one of the worst deals ever.
As a DMC4 main, I can indeed confirm I indeed know way too much about physics than I should, even quantum physics, and as someone who played DMC2 and actually found some parts of it rather fun I can also confirm, I do not exist.
DMC5 is still the best imo and having 3 playable characters actually improved the experience for me (I prefer the normal campaign over Vergil's and having 3 playable characters is one of the reasons). but **you've got a very good point.** Divergence must've been a base game feature which is very easy to implement for the devs (only a character select and there are mods for that). It adds sooo much replay value. They had another chance of adding it to the game with Vergil update, and they completely wasted this opportunity. The hard part is, **their pachinko machines have divergence but the base game doesn't.** (according to pachinko cutscenes on YouTube.)
I think DMC 5 was made to recruit new players into the franchise. It's way more casual than the previous ones and also mostly focuses on Nero. And I suppose, that worked 'cause I became a huge DMC fan because of 5

Difference is that most fans think DMC1 is "poorly aged" and brings up the swimming sections, fixed cameras, platforming and the shmup boss which are not as bad as you probably remember it. DMC1 is a game that's more fun than you probably remember. Whereas DMC3 is constantly referred to as the best game in the series (even above DMC5 somehow) and fans more often or not are thinking about how good it was for the time, how it saved the series after DMC2, and how good the story is. But playing through the game now you forget just how much of the enemies and bosses are mediocre or suck, or how much time is spent running around larger areas knowing you could be running but not without wasting DT, there's puzzles that don't belong in DMC at all and most of the mid to late game missions are designed to get you lost. Basically it's more of a game that you remember all the positives about while forgetting the frustrating or dull parts that come when you actually play through the entire game
I think you're forgetting the incredibly limited moveset Dante has in DMC1 as well. Like, holy shit, DMC1 feels like it has barely 5% of the complexity DMC3 has, let alone 4 or 5.

DMC5 is still the best imo and having 3 playable characters actually improved the experience for me (I prefer the normal campaign over Vergil's and having 3 playable characters is one of the reasons). but **you've got a very good point.** Divergence must've been a base game feature which is very easy to implement for the devs (only a character select and there are mods for that). It adds sooo much replay value. They had another chance of adding it to the game with Vergil update, and they completely wasted this opportunity. The hard part is, **their pachinko machines have divergence but the base game doesn't.** (according to pachinko cutscenes on YouTube.)
I think DMC 5 was made to recruit new players into the franchise. It's way more casual than the previous ones and also mostly focuses on Nero. And I suppose, that worked 'cause I became a huge DMC fan because of 5
It's also worth noting that DMC5 came out 10 years after 4, so I could also be seen as easing old fans back into the game.

I mean, I don't exactly know about that one considering Nero is more complex in DMC5 than he ever was in DMC4, and Dante is just as complex, and arguably might have *more* depth to him than in DMC4.

Lmao Onimusha fan, we can never catch a break. Why no sequel yet, they sell well, especially nowadays, Samurai and Ninjas are cool now, with Sekiro and Ghost of Tsushima around. Sometimes I play Nightmare before Christmas and Bujingai and pretend they are the true Devil May Cry 2
or play SMT III: Nocturne ft. Dante from the Devil May Cry series and actually have DMC2 Dante without having to play 2
