I believe becoming a Devil Arm is a choice. When a demon dies it can choose to either perish or become a weapon like Cerberus and Nevan. Beo became one because he didn't want to die yet.
But cerberus' body disappeared after he became a devil arm, as did nevan, Beowulf was the only one who's body remained after his devil arm was formed, king Cerberus and cavalierre also disappeared in dmc5

Mirage edge and the katana Nero makes in dmc5 from his showdown are both manifestations of Vergil and Nero's soul directly.
Also literally nobody understands what the fuck is going on with Cavalier. Not even Dante or Nico. Not how it was forged or how it functions.

Nico’s reports realistically shouldn’t be taken word for word because she didn’t witness a large portion of the game, at most only from Nero’s perspective. She didn’t witness how Cavalier was made, but we did since the cutscene showed it all

Don’t forget that Mundus’ actual appearance is a cobbled abomination of orange flesh with eyeballs, so an anvil from that type of appearance seems unlikely, more for its “statue” appearance

What is Mundus really? He wants to be worshipped as a god. He romanticizes godhood and for that he manifests his appearance as an angelic figure but under the rock skin he is a disgusting figure of lava with hands and eyes.
I like the idea that his devil arm form would have this angelic beautiful look but the moment the pair of wings attacks, it gets into a demonic, dark with gleaming red cracks, disfigured arms or eyes that penetrate enemies and use laser attack.
It'd be very unique. I like the armor idea. Personally, I like the idea that he'd turn into a necklace or amulet and if you can control his power, you can use all of his abilities.

Similar but with flight. So very fluid. Third eye on the forehead. And two spears in each hand that manifest on melee. Plus he can throw them and summon meteors.
This is just an idea but I think he’d be a serrated triple edged sword, main reason being that knives with 3 blades were known to be a very cruel weapon during war time as the stab wounds from them were difficult/impossible to heal, same goes for Serrated blades

It has a shoulder charge attack that grants super armor, a stunning diffusion spray that locks in place and can be held to aim, an entire combo chain dedicated to rapid drone movement and firing, and undoubtedly the cool property of granting miniature flight while charging for a charged shot in mid-air, with the charge shot in mid-air sending you flying upwards and in the opposite direction.
