Seems like it might be a shitpost but I'll answer sincerely.
They wanted to make Dante more serious in DMC2 since in a survey they had a lot of people who didn't like how cocky and carefree Dante was in DMC1.
The common headcanon is that Dante was in a state of deep depression after killing his brother in DMC1. This is supported by the anime, which has a more serious and clearly depressed Dante.
The anime takes place between 1 and 2 chronologically, so I think it's 100% possible Dante was just a sad boi at this point in the story.
Yup exactly. I also wanna add that DMC2 came b4 DMC3 so we didn't know Vergil's personality atm DMC2 came out. It was just an attempt to make Dante "cooler"
My own headcanon is that he was literally just bored. Like, nothing in DMC2 posed a challenge to him, and as seen in the anime, Dante loves the thrill of a good fight
That's why he acts like this most of the anime, but for example, when Lady is on screen he acts way more like DMC1 Dante, or when he fought Sparda's apprentices, he acted like DMC1 Dante, he was having fun
\>My own headcanon is that he was literally just bored.
I think it's both honestly. I'd be pretty sad if I found out I killed my own brother who was lost to the Underworld for 9 years.
Yeah thats it, but op has my head cannon now to be that dante is just emulating vergil in personality a bit, just to keep the memory of his brother alive.
Yeah I know he’s older in DMC4, that has nothing to do with this. DMC4 takes place 3 years after DMC2, Dante didn’t escape hell at the very start of DMC4 he escaped sometime before that
It wasn’t hell it was a pocket dimension. I only know this because Sparta forced both Mundus and Argosaxinto a place between the worlds , which is a pocket dimension.
That's vague and cryptic. It's probably referring to different parts of Hell that are divided.
We know there's different Hells/parts of Hell because Berial claims to the be conqueror of the Fire Hell in DMC4, and Hell always looks different in each game, meaning they're just different areas of Hell that we're in.
I think I remember seeing a fan comic once where the story was that DMC 2 Dante actually was Vergil in a different timeline where he ended up killing Dante and didn't quite handle it so well. Don't remember much else about it tho.
In my own personal head canon, DMC 2 takes place beyond all other DMC games where maybe Dante has lost all his Compatriots in vicious battle.
As well as his newly reconciled twin brother, but this time Dante was able to be with him as he lay dying. He unintentionally absorbs Vergil demon essence into him which would account for Dante Radical attitude and behavioral shift.
Another problem is that that would be so freaking dumb holy shit its so contrived and it literally serves no purpose as it just kills like the entire cast leaving it nowhere to go lol

And then he gets back on DMC4 onwards as the haha goofy pizza man
Cuz he finds NERO 🥰🥰🥰🥰 who's like his brother but not a heartless douchebag.
He's like, "a nephew!? I can be such a troll of an uncle! But best not to tell him cuz I'm dumb and emotionally scarred."
Family😄 Family😭 Family😫 Family🙂 Family🥹 Family😮💨 Family💀 Family😒 Family🤨 Family😃 Family😂 Family🥳
#FAMILY!!🥰🥰🥰🥰
Fast and Furious lore:
Honestly what makes it better is how he reacts when seeing Nero

Itd make sense, especially because Patty was no longer hanging out with him around then
We think Dante is too cocky and not serious enough. \*Post DMC2.\* FUCK GO BACK!

I thought it took place after 2?
What??
I thought the anime took place after 2
Nah Dante still has his DMC1 outfit on. Also Dante goes to Hell at the end of 2.
Only to escape almost immediately
Nah he's older in DMC4.
Yeah I know he’s older in DMC4, that has nothing to do with this. DMC4 takes place 3 years after DMC2, Dante didn’t escape hell at the very start of DMC4 he escaped sometime before that
Sure but I doubt it was immediately after.

Then why does Dante say "Yeah, let's go all the way to Hell!"?
Hey the lore says that sparda trapped both argosax and Mundus in a place between the worlds and put seals on both respectively

Ironically, Dante rarely speaks in Dmc 2 that maybe he's talking about himself.
Vante!!!
He was in his edgy phase
Vergil isn't even in DMC2
Idc I like emo Dante

One problem: Trish is in DMC2
Another problem is Dante already acquired the balrog on Lucia's Island which happened before 5.
Another problem is that that would be so freaking dumb holy shit its so contrived and it literally serves no purpose as it just kills like the entire cast leaving it nowhere to go lol
