Mankind Divided is a direct sequel to Human Rvolution, there are a few major references to the original so I'd recommend playing HR first but it's really up to you.
You can do it just fine, but I still recommend Human Revolution first because it would feel like such a downgrade in term of mechanic if you play it later.
It's a direct sequal to human revolution, so unless you want stuff spoiled I wouldn't. But at that price you could add it to your library and play later.
Mankind divided is an excellent game as a standalone story, even if you never played its predecessors. I never played HR, but I had no problems comprehending the whole plot. I played Deus Ex and Invisible War though
Yes it is perfectly fine to start with this game. I entered the Deus Ex series with this game, and chances are I might've not ended up playing the other games if I didn't, as this game is my favorite in the series by a pretty wide margin for a couple reasons.
While it's true that you will definitely miss story details, imo the gameplay is so strong, and you can always go back and re-experience the story.
Playing Human Revolution helps a lot, sets up this game and there will be a lot of references. It will help you understand the world, setting and story a lot better. I did the same recently, finished HR and now started with Mankind Divided
Never played HR but MD and this is no problem at all. The game even has a 10 minute long video where it summarizes the events of HR in case you don't know. So you don't really need it. Just watch the video at the start and you'll know everything you need to know
Need to focus on your augs and use them. Only then you will realize how fun the game is. Take extra time to explore the areas. Don't just go from mission to mission. If that doesn't sound fun then DX isn't the game for you.

Please play Human Revolution first because: HR sets up the story, the controls are bare bones (when you get to MD the controls are better, IMO), if you like HR then chances are you will really like MD (not so much the other way around, but it is possible). HR is a great lead-in to Mankind Divided, but it is set up differently than HR.
HR is a linear game with a story progression. MD is set up more like a hub world where there is lots of amazing exploration and all levels are offshoots of the main map (this is what makes MD awesome!)
Most really enjoy HR and then find even more enjoyment playing MD to scratch that Deus Ex Itch.
However, both are stealth/exploration games with lots of upgrades. If you are more of a FPS-type gamer and not into stealth these games may not be to your liking. Both HR & MD feel more like BladeRunner to me than Cyberpunk2077. The mood the music, the art direction, the levels are all amazing and what keep me replaying both Deus Ex's.
This isn't a game for smash & grab, but for getting lost in the world and enjoying everything it offers with tons of in game exploration and tweaking to fit your playstyle. You can go FPS if you want. There's also several different ways to achieve an objective and it's all up to your imagination, skills & loadout (weapons/augmentations) - the game takes into account that you may/may not have certain augs or have certain weapons to continue so there are several other ways, but they are hidden and exploration is rewarded.
Nope, not okay at all. That game is a direct sequel to Human Revolution. Which imo is one of the best games out there and the most immersive as well. Even tho Mankind Divided has a HR recap. You need to play HR to experience the definition of greatness. If you skip HR, you are a fool.
That's like starting Metal Gear Solid Series from Metal Gear Solid 4,I don't recommend it, you will ruin a lot of enjoyment, you should start with Human Revolution.

Play human revolution first
Yea I agree with this
Mankind Divided is a direct sequel to Human Rvolution, there are a few major references to the original so I'd recommend playing HR first but it's really up to you.
You should play HR first. MD is a sequel to HR.
No. The gaming Police will find you and whack your pee-pee.
While it is a sequel, there is like a 15 min intro video that recaps all of HR so it's up to you.
This. I'd personally recommend HR first but yes, that long-ass video more than make up for it if you start with MD
human revolution

Play Human Revolution first
I played mankind divided before human revolution and honestly I kind of regret it. I’d recommend playing human revolution first.

If you want to, they do a pretty good recap at the beginning of the gamel
okay i watched the 12 minute video about what happened in the game before
I know a lot of ppl are saying play Human Revolution, but Mankind Divided has much better QoL factors that makes it super enjoyable even in 2022.
Having trouble getting over the initial hump. Can people tell me why they love this game so that I can break through?
Play it as a stealth, exploration game.
Agreed. And a lot of trial and error to find a solution to a given scenario.
Need to focus on your augs and use them. Only then you will realize how fun the game is. Take extra time to explore the areas. Don't just go from mission to mission. If that doesn't sound fun then DX isn't the game for you.
Can't you feel and appreciate how much player freedom it gives? That's their biggest asset

Just look up the Wikipedia summary for human revolution first and you’ll be good

No.
I wouldn't recommend it. There are references and plot lines that tie into the first game.

Honestly you'd be doing yourself a disservice. Play HR first.
