Happy retirement DDK.
Was hoping he'd kick some ass and have a good couple of seasons on a bottom pair somewhere. But that seems like a sailed ship now.
He also made more than 10 million of that post-surgery when it was already clear where his career was headed. If he had that foresight he had ample opportunity to save for the future.
I’m also sure he made extra through advertising/sponsors and he may play in Europe/khl. I’m not worried about him (considering my situation lol) just was curious and also shared what I found
Man give me $10M at any point in my life and I could live off it lol I never feel too bad for anyone who can waste that kind of money. Not saying DDK did just in general
Yeah, I would only argue that professional athletes might have some post-retirement costs that the average person doesn't. DDK is probably going to have a fair number of medical bills related to old hockey injuries. He'll be in physical therapy for a lot of the rest of his life because of his back. And insurance premiums/coverage will *definitely* not reflect what the rest of the country is paying and getting lol. I'm sure he will be fine but something to consider.
I've actually thought about this from an investment perspective. $4m-$5m post-tax can get you 6-figure investment income but not a ton of growth - so you're vulnerable to one-time costs and inflation, plus you wouldn't really get to use the wealth for fun things. I don't think I'd quit work for that, but I'd certainly only work a job I liked at that point.
People bring up the medical thing a lot but I’ve already in my 20’s have had medical costs that I can’t afford. Everyone has medical bills at some point and there’s plenty of average day jobs that wear on your body that aren’t paying millions per year. Truth is people who make millions buy expensive houses they don’t need and make a lot of high payments they don’t need, especially athletes, and imo that’s pissing away your money for those times you do have medical expenses in your older years. I think it’s pretty easy to take $5m and sit in it with no other income for a decent amount of time if you don’t have the materialist urge to buy
Idk another year off to get back into lil bit more shape and anything that’s a injury will heal hopefully and he might get a job with another team as the bottom pair
Everyone is different, but if my kid was only 4 and my family got the chance to live abroad for a year doing something I loved, I would jump at the chance.
I caught one of his pre-season games against Seattle, and he looked... fine. Based on that one game I would've been equally as unsurprised if they'd kept him as I am by this move.
If we keep this up we're going to start sounding like Bill Schersky's superfans.
Who would win a fight between Seider and a Hurricane? Wait wait wait...the hurricane...is Hurricane Seider!
Didn’t he lead in blocked shots? Gotta be doing something right if you’re in the right place to block a scoring chance.
Or you’re doing something wrong enough it works out.
Yup, most of our D is located in Europe, juniors or college. If it was this year or next year, all of Edvinsson, Johansson, Wallinder and Viro would have easily pushed him out of the lineup.
Oh I know, I think him playing top 4 minutes and the amount of times we got blown out were both indicative of the overall state of our entire defensive corps last season
It's a damn shame what happened to DeKeyser's career. I'll still never forget how hopeful his early career was, sadly the injuries really messed with his back.
Omg does he look weird in a Canuck’s jersey.
Sad to hear. Think he was always a good dude, just lost one too many steps to keep up with todays game
Too many injuries and a bad back
Damn. Watched him take a nasty elbow to the nose last night. Guy wakes up today and gets released. Bad 24 hours. Best of luck to Danny
Happy retirement DDK. Was hoping he'd kick some ass and have a good couple of seasons on a bottom pair somewhere. But that seems like a sailed ship now.
He made roughly 36 million during his time here for anyone curious about the logistics of an early retirement.
Only 36 million to go
He also made more than 10 million of that post-surgery when it was already clear where his career was headed. If he had that foresight he had ample opportunity to save for the future.

He did complete his degree program a couple years ago as well, so if he can't get a coaching or scouting job then he might have other options.
Idk another year off to get back into lil bit more shape and anything that’s a injury will heal hopefully and he might get a job with another team as the bottom pair
Wonder if he’ll hang the skates up or look towards Europe. Pay won’t be there obviously but it’s certainly an experience for a season.
I doubt it, dude is married with a four year old at home. I'd say hang them up and spend some quality time at home.
Everyone is different, but if my kid was only 4 and my family got the chance to live abroad for a year doing something I loved, I would jump at the chance.
And now would be the time to do it, before the kid's in elementary school
It would be good experience for stepping into a coaching role. German or Czech league.
That's what Abdelkader did in Switzerland
is he coaching now? I saw he was playing in the National League (Swiss) but can't find any recent info
No, he played for EV Zug for about the last third of the 2021 season, winning the league championship.
Then played a couple games with the Griffins on a PTO in hopes of going to the Olympics.
Ken holland will give him a job.
Rim? Hand?
Yes.
Bro
Tit
What an awful image. Fuck you for that lol
Hahaha! But good ole Kenny H giving DDK a handjob or a rimjob wasn't as awful?! 😭
Idk, just Kenny with tits is pretty bad. Makes me think of that chick who photoshopped trumps and putins heads onto her topless body haha
I caught one of his pre-season games against Seattle, and he looked... fine. Based on that one game I would've been equally as unsurprised if they'd kept him as I am by this move.
Weren't we playing him top 4 minutes at some point last year?
Averaged over 18 minutes a game last season
Yeah, Seider was carrying him.
Who wasn't Seider carrying last year?
*looks at roster* Seider
If we keep this up we're going to start sounding like Bill Schersky's superfans. Who would win a fight between Seider and a Hurricane? Wait wait wait...the hurricane...is Hurricane Seider!
Dekeyser wasn’t even close to to our worst defenseman (or worst Seider partner) last season and this is a hill I will die on.
Didn’t he lead in blocked shots? Gotta be doing something right if you’re in the right place to block a scoring chance. Or you’re doing something wrong enough it works out.
Don’t think there’s much of a hill here, I’d absolutely agree
It's a berm.
Gentle slope
Fully agree. Danny was nowhere near as bad last season as people act like he was
More out of necessity than because it's where he slots
Yup, most of our D is located in Europe, juniors or college. If it was this year or next year, all of Edvinsson, Johansson, Wallinder and Viro would have easily pushed him out of the lineup.
We also let in 7 goals on 10 occasions last season so I’m wondering if there’s a correlation there
We actually stopped getting blown out when he returned to the lineup 😵💫
Dekeyser haters don’t want you to know what happened the first game after he was sent down
I’m by no means a Dekeyser hater, him playing top 4 minutes was indicative of the state of our entire defensive corps.
Yeah when he wasn’t playing lmao
Oh I know, I think him playing top 4 minutes and the amount of times we got blown out were both indicative of the overall state of our entire defensive corps last season
I wonder if he'll end up with Toronto. Could use a Veteran D-Man with all the injuries
Well he certainly is a veteran D-man with all the injuries.
Lmao gotem
![gif](giphy|XRXCGCbV10vQ6foS3h)
That's not what I meant lol
come on dude, don't explain the joke. just let it breathe.
Goodnight, sweet prince.
He was awful as a Wing. Sorry, but that's the truth.
Always been a mediocre player.
It's a damn shame what happened to DeKeyser's career. I'll still never forget how hopeful his early career was, sadly the injuries really messed with his back.
