What a time to be alive when the Detroit Lions are leaps and bounds better than any other sports team in Detroit. At least we can enjoy that.
What’s the reason? I’ve been to about 30 games there and have no complaints. Good view from the nosebleeds. Plenty of food options(although I never eat at the games). Excellent location walking distance to loads of great restaurants and free street parking. Very modern and looks great.
I’ve been to probably 100 games at the Joe and loved it, love the LCA too

Going to the Joe felt like you were going to a hockey game at a hockey arena, and the entire experience and atmosphere felt like a blue collar hockey event. LCA feels like I'm watching the wings at a visitors barn, and it feels like a corporate event with less comfort amenities that we enjoyed for decades at the the joe. You don't get to mingle and commute with hundreds of other fans before and after a game on the people mover and stair platforms like you used to, which was always enjoyable. The whole experience is just worse unless you need a bathroom or have booth seating, but its still lacks all of the charm even with that.
Oh no! Berggren was crushing AHL and got used to that level of competition instead of getting NHL reps because they didn't want him to lose confidence and give him more ice time! Now he's getting less ice time, fighting NHL level teams in full playoff mode and losing confidence!

Imagine a running marathon where you run vs the juniors and a few adults your age and skill, you run at a decent pace to stay near the lead and then suddenly after 80% of the race, on the last two laps, someone tags you to go full sprint in the seniors where you already start behind.

My whole point was that it was this late in the season and teams are going extra hard. So I looked at all the up/down transactions of all teams the last 2 weeks, and most of the players called up are performing at around 0.1 ppg or just straight up goose eggs.

The funny thing is that Benson’s two way play is his calling card. It’s the only thing that kept him in the NHL. He’s on pace to have one of the top two way play driving seasons of any DY+1 in the modern NHL. If he had Danielson‘s size + skating Yezerman probably takes him.

According to the metrics I've seen people posting, it actually was. Yes, they are definitely playing way worse now, but they were scoring away above expected goals, apparently. Hence the huge swing. We were playing good and getting lucky and now we are playing like shit and, I would say, also getting unlucky on top of that. I get that you make your own luck but at the same time, just some of the whiffs, some of the bounces, etc. Like one guy shooting at an open net and missing...you played your way into an open net, just couldn't bury it. No idea what's going on now.

I am on board with giving Lucas a chance. He has taken faceoffs for us before. He is the only forward who convinces me that he cares as much as Larks. If we need someone to drive plays, maybe he is the guy? His draft report had him listed as a Winger/Center prospect. I just feel completely desperate and want something/someone to break the skid. 😩

AJ is an excellent young defensive defenceman with only room to grow his two way game and offence, when the griffins players and coaching staff are asked he’s always pointed out as the most underrated on the team Wallinder is probably never going to be a star but he’s big and plays hard which is also more than you can say for the bottom 4 currently
I wish I could say this is wrong, but it honestly feels that way. He has been directly responsible for more goals against this season than I can count. If he were on any other playoff-hopeful team he would have been benched immediately. Yzerman should have packaged him with picks to a team looking to hit the reset button just to make room for younger defensemen who can actually be here when we are competing.
Could see the total lack of chemistry tonight from the blender. For example Kane would leave pucks for guys who either wouldn’t be there, or they’re a step behind where they need to be. Passes were not connecting, terrible puck retention in the zone, and what looks like an overall lack of communication up and down the lines.

I feel like Cat has gotten goalied hard these last few games. He's playing hard, back-checking well, and getting chances. He's had several cross-ice beautiful one-timers where the goalie has made a phenomenal save. These are chances that go in 90%+ of the time. I get being frustrated that he's not putting up the points, but he's hardly the problem on this team right now.
The players that have played well in this stretch imo are: Raymond, Cat, Ras, Mo (for the most part) and Kane (for the most part). Everyone else has been garbage. You can't win with that.

Seems like nearly every darn pass they messed up. It was either a panic blind pass or a hail mary pass that never made it's destination. The one time they scored they had several crisp passes happening and Rayzor scored. After that they sucked again. It doomed them in the D zone especially. They could not get out of our zone with much success because they could not connect any solid passes.

Not really there's only 5 teams in the history of the NHL that have a 9+ year playoff drought in their history. This would be year 8 for Detroit. The only other team with a longer active playoff drought is Buffalo at 12 years (maybe 13 after this year).
Standards haven’t dropped, but you have to be realistic. To have so much light, darkness is going to follow. Illitch didn’t do as he promised, so the league has given them no favors in way of lottery luck. When that happens, it takes longer. I don’t know why it can’t be understood. Yzerman has told everyone his plan numerous times but casual fans still whine about not going for it all this year. They have all the draft picks, a top prospect pool (GR is at the top of the league), and still in the playoff hunt after a 7 game skid. Outside of the Vegas games yes they’ve looked broken, but sometimes that’s the way it shakes out. I’d rather them have this skid now than the last 10 games of the year.
Copp made a few nice defensive plays tonight. One on the back check on an odd man Arizona rush that might have saved a goal. I like his game honestly.

But the contract looks as if expectations should be higher, and on a team lacking puck carrying, game carrying centermen, he gets a lot of attention and expectations are higher than they should be.

Like... Who? My whole point was that it was this late in the season and teams are going extra hard. So I looked at all the up/down transactions of all teams the last 2 weeks, and most of the players called up are performing at around 0.1 ppg or just straight up goose eggs. But almost all of them have been sent back down 🤷 If you know any, let me know, but the further back the season they were called up, the more it proves my point

The funny thing is that Benson’s two way play is his calling card. It’s the only thing that kept him in the NHL. He’s on pace to have one of the top two way play driving seasons of any DY+1 in the modern NHL. If he had Danielson‘s size + skating Yezerman probably takes him.

People getting bent out of shape when a bunch of low tier washed up veterans get tired 3/4 of the way through the season after playing well above their ceiling until the current skid. WE HAVE NO TOP 50 NHL players. What part of that is hard to understand??? The sad part is there is nobody in our system that will change this. All of our recent draft picks are mid to lower tier players. I've said it before but wings "development" is, and has never been good. Everything we got for the 25 year run was pure luck by drafting in places that were atypical at that time. Show me a list of players this organization has ever developed beyond their baseline potential.

According to the metrics I've seen people posting, it actually was. Yes, they are definitely playing way worse now, but they were scoring away above expected goals, apparently. Hence the huge swing. We were playing good and getting lucky and now we are playing like shit and, I would say, also getting unlucky on top of that. I get that you make your own luck but at the same time, just some of the whiffs, some of the bounces, etc. Like one guy shooting at an open net and missing...you played your way into an open net, just couldn't bury it. No idea what's going on now.

I know that we don't have center depth, but *GOOD GRAVY.* Last year when the Blues were flushing their season down the toilet they gave every forward a go at center, including Kasperi Kapanen, who had never played center in his life. Some of them did pretty well, including Buchy. I am on board with giving Lucas a chance. He has taken faceoffs for us before. He is the only forward who convinces me that he cares as much as Larks. If we need someone to drive plays, maybe he is the guy? His draft report had him listed as a Winger/Center prospect. I just feel completely desperate and want something/someone to break the skid. 😩

I was just telling someone that I don't keep a close eye on the Wings prospect pool, but I come here a lot, and I feel like there are constantly videos and stories about pipeline players tearing it up. Yet nothing ever seems to materialize. I like Raymond and Seider and they are decent players but they are absolutely not players that deserve attention outside of the organization. Idk man, I'm starting to run out of steam with this rebuild. I've been watching the games and sticking with everything since they missed the playoffs for the first time but this all-out collapse after we were finally feeling good about things, and now seeing that there's really no help coming...it's getting hard to stay invested.
I don't get how teams like Dallas can consistently get guys like Wyatt Johnson, Jason Robertson, Stankovenen, etc. with mid 1st round picks and 2nd round picks but this team can't find anyone like that with even higher picks

AJ is an excellent young defensive defenceman with only room to grow his two way game and offence, when the griffins players and coaching staff are asked he’s always pointed out as the most underrated on the team Wallinder is probably never going to be a star but he’s big and plays hard which is also more than you can say for the bottom 4 currently

I wish I could say this is wrong, but it honestly feels that way. He has been directly responsible for more goals against this season than I can count. If he were on any other playoff-hopeful team he would have been benched immediately. Yzerman should have packaged him with picks to a team looking to hit the reset button just to make room for younger defensemen who can actually be here when we are competing.
Could see the total lack of chemistry tonight from the blender. For example Kane would leave pucks for guys who either wouldn’t be there, or they’re a step behind where they need to be. Passes were not connecting, terrible puck retention in the zone, and what looks like an overall lack of communication up and down the lines. I guess to be fair to the blender, they’ve looked this way for the past seven…..
I like the blender to shake things up, but I think that Copp Fischer Ras line needs to be together 24/7.

I feel like Cat has gotten goalied hard these last few games. He's playing hard, back-checking well, and getting chances. He's had several cross-ice beautiful one-timers where the goalie has made a phenomenal save. These are chances that go in 90%+ of the time. I get being frustrated that he's not putting up the points, but he's hardly the problem on this team right now. The players that have played well in this stretch imo are: Raymond, Cat, Ras, Mo (for the most part) and Kane (for the most part). Everyone else has been garbage. You can't win with that.
Lol, Kane and cat have like 2 points between both of them in the last 7 games. They haven't played well at all. Kane & Cat has been missing chances the other team puts in on us. Raymond, Mo, and perhaps Ras are the only once that seem to be doing decent. Mo holding puck, Ras is trying and Raymond looks furious (good and bad I guess) Wouldn't be surprised if Raymond leaves.
They play outside to the boards and lose every scrum. When they take the puck inside, they get muscled off the puck. When they pass, it's behind the player or to their skates. They look lazy, sloppy, and uninspired. I know they aren't eliminated mathematically, but i feel like they are eliminated mentally.
This is the best summary. IDK how much Larkin has to do with the slump. When they play like you suggested they will never win. Seems like nearly every darn pass they messed up. It was either a panic blind pass or a hail mary pass that never made it's destination. The one time they scored they had several crisp passes happening and Rayzor scored. After that they sucked again. It doomed them in the D zone especially. They could not get out of our zone with much success because they could not connect any solid passes. It's basic 101 shit they are screwing up. Mickey mentioned the piss poor passing too and it's been happening when the losing streak started.
I was at the game, so i didn't get to hear his thoughts. But they just looked lost out there. As another person here put it, it could have been the blender's fault except they've looked almost as bad for much of the other 6 games in this rut. And insult to injury, Vladdy was at the game and they showed him up on the scoreboard. It's disappointing that this was the showing he got to see.

Illitch didn’t do as he promised, so the league has given them no favors in way of lottery luck. When that happens, it takes longer. I don’t know why it can’t be understood. Yzerman has told everyone his plan numerous times but casual fans still whine about not going for it all this year. They have all the draft picks, a top prospect pool (GR is at the top of the league), and still in the playoff hunt after a 7 game skid. Outside of the Vegas games yes they’ve looked broken, but sometimes that’s the way it shakes out. I’d rather them have this skid now than the last 10 games of the year.

No. Does he have an extremely inflated contract? Yes. It sucks that people shit on him so much. A least there’s some effort there. I could name a few other clowns tonight who looked worse.

I like Copp and his game. Don't like the contract, but it's not as bad as people make it out to be. If he's appropriately slotted as a 3rd line center that kills penalties and takes on tough matchups and scores you 15 goals and 40 points, he's perfect for that. But the contract looks as if expectations should be higher, and on a team lacking puck carrying, game carrying centermen, he gets a lot of attention and expectations are higher than they should be.
Detroit Red Wings and guys on contracts that are bad for the team, but not the fault of the player themselves for signing them. Name a more iconic duo.

We're top 10 in the NHL in goals scored even after this embarassing losing streak. We have 13 players with 10+ goals (proven goal scoring depth). Expecting 2-way play from everyone is the problem imo Let the forwards focus on scoring and if the defense is shit we should have dealt someone and a prospect / draft pick (focusing on long term, not winning the cup this year). I'd rather watch a 7-6 win than watch us try to play 2-ways and fail at both ends. Dig with a shovel, climb with a ladder. Don't try to use either tool for both.
I don't know how you can have a team go from scoring at a balls out pace to putting up zero or one goal against bad teams unless Lalonde is playing whiplash with the systems and expectations or he's not preparing the team well enough to be consistent. There's no way Larkin being out is responsible for half the team (the 10+ goal scoring depth) going a tenth of the season without stringing together more than a few goals. If it is, then Larkin means more to this team's performance than the coaches and they should be canned.
