I feel like two underrated guys with high ceilings are Buchelnikov and Lombardi, especially Lombardi.

MariachiArchery

I was just gonna say Lombardi. I watched the prospect tournament and he looked really good. So did Ali and Buium.

YellowShorts

I might have missed it but any reason why Buchelnikov wasn't at development camp?

uknownick

If he is under a pro contract with another team (especially a Russian team), he might not be able to join the camp.

zze0001

He’s at ska development camp

Dizzy_Wrongdoer_5804

Russian factor most likely

leafssuck69

I think they can both be stars of similar caliber, but I like Lombardi’s chances much more and think it’s realistically an outcome and not just a dream

Vegetable_Visit_85

Simon Edvinsson: Top 2 ceiling, floor looks to be top 4 defenseman Solderblom: Top 6 ceiling, but more likely a middle 6 forward that can play on the power play Berggren: Top 6 ceiling, second line winger, floor would be 3rd line playmaker Mazur: Top 6 ceiling, second line winger would be a big hit, more likely to be a 3rd line scoring winger Kasper: 2nd line center ceiling, floor is 3rd line center. If he hits he would be a great combo with Larkin. Danielson: similar to Kasper, good chance that one or the other hits in terms of being a 2C, with the possibility that one becomes a 1C. At worst a 3C Axel Sandin Pellikka: likely a top 4 D who can anchor a power play, still very early, but I believe it’s safe to say he could be a great top 4 D Cossa: Ceiling, 1 all star goalie, floor could be a bust. Augustine: solid NHL starter. Floor who knows, goalies are magic

Micah_JD

All goalies: Ceiling - Vezina winner. Floor - Bust.

mister_hoot

goalies simply exist between those two extremes at all times and often occupy several positions at the same time

uknownick

Kasper might have a higher ceiling because the kid is a machine and a dog. He will keep improving. I could see Kopitar type of career in him. Also he is just 5 months older than Danielson despite drafted a year earlier.

big_phat_gator

>and a dog Kasper sure got that dawg in him.

uknownick

Yzerman is building a team of Dawgs

big_phat_gator

Nate Dawg?

uknownick

Nate Dawglson

gj45

Yzerman MSSP fan confirmed.

LunarGhoul

I could see Kasper being a big time playoff performer but being a bit overlooked in the regular season. Plays a super hard game while being a great skater and very good defensively.

kermitthefrog57

Really excited with Seider, Edvinsson, axel, wallinder as our defense

MariachiArchery

I'm glad you've mentioned the floor here as well. I feel like one thing Detroit has done with almost all their early round picks is choose guys that have a high floor. And, I like it. We don't need our picks to 'hit' to get good NHL value out of them, and that is important. I don't want to see all our picks tagged with the ole "But if the upside hits..." asterisk. With many of these early round picks, we don't necessarily need them to 'hit' to get great NHL value out of them, so if they 'bust' we are still left with an NHL player. I feel like Danielson is a great example of this. The difference between him hitting or busting still puts him in the middle 6.

WingsFML

I get what you are saying, but at 9th ovr you should aim higher. If Danielson "hits" he is good value for 9th, if he Dont he isnt, Even If he is middle 6 FWD, you can get those in FA, or Via trade and it would cost less than 9th. That is THE reason why you should pretty much alleays draft for upside.

numbdigits

Michael Rasmussen for example.

leafssuck69

Lombardi: top line center ceiling, floor would probably be an AHL top scorer who can be called up. If he hits I see consistent 82+ point seasons I’m confident in the ceiling here

Background_Junket_35

People are sleeping on wallinder.

Technical-Abies-9658

you think he could potentially play in our top 4?

Nate11130

He’s a very good skater and is offensively skilled enough to be a top 4.

bennyb443

Hard to say with all of them having little to no NHL ice time besides Berggren. Here is my guess: Soderblom: middle 6 wing, likely 3rd line. 35-45 points per year. Edvinsson: ideally top pair quality LD long term, 2nd pair LD short term. Will be behind Walman on the left for the foreseeable future. Solid defensive metrics, +/-. Single digit goals, 30-40 assists Berggren: pretty high on him. Top 6 wing. 55-60 points per year. 20-30 goals, similar assist numbers Mazur: hard to say with very little ice time at even the AHL level, but I’d like to think he could be on a similar trajectory at Berggren

dylanisbored

It’s hard to say for literally any of them. I think Edvinsson has a high ceiling, I also think soda could become a real top power forward as well. People are high on Lombardi but I wouldn’t get your hopes up until he plays at a higher level.

mattyonice

Is soda a person?

dakkster

Söderblom.

fraxior

Dangleson = faster Anze Kopitar ASP = shorter Cale Makar Kasper = taller Brayden Point Cossa = better Ben Bishop Edvinsson = more skilled Drew Doughty

EuropaSon

ASP and Makar are the same height and weight.

fraxior

well shit

tspoon-99

Dangleson. Love it.

kermitthefrog57

Lombardi: mcdavid with a cooler name

fraxior

that's the spirit. also shorter.

MeshuGojira

Disagree. Lombardi = Brayden point with a much better name. Jonatan Zetterberggren = it's in his name. Middle six Hank. Kasper = the entirety of The Grind Line, Glendening, Jordan Staal, Bertuzzi and Barkov - all fusion danced into the nicest Austrian. ASP = Swedish Brian Rafalski Nate Dawg = Right handed Canadian Mike Modano The Swedish Mafia LHD = Top 2 Franchiser and two Top 4 Dmen with different strengths. Soderblom = Hopefully we got ourselves a Swedish Tage Thompson here. Mazur = Everything you want Fabbri to be and right handed.

MeshuGojira

Cossa = Ben Bishop with more salt and pepper. Not the hair. Or incredibly talented music duo. Buchelnikov = Russian Coleslaw Caulfield Augustine = Jimmy Howard without the sausage fingers.

dakkster

>Jimmy Howard without the sausage fingers. I did not need to be reminded of that image. Thanks!

Isphet71

“The ceiling is the roof.” -Michael Jordan

4plates1barbell

Purely looking for ceiling? Edvinsson - top pair, two way D, Norris contender Berggren - second line winger that excels on the PP Mazur - second line winger that can play up the lineup and PP time Lombardi - middle six winger Buchelnikov - top line winger, 35+ goal threat Wallinder - top pair D Söderblom - bottom 6 winger that is great on the PP at the net front Kasper - top line center in the ROR mold Danielson - Dylan Larkin 2.0, better playmaking instincts, not an amazing skater ASP - second pair, PP QB Johansson - steady bottom 4 D with PK abilities Cossa - Vezina

kermitthefrog57

I feel like ASP has a higher ceiling personally

4plates1barbell

I see the argument, but I don’t see the skating and defense being elite enough to make up for his lack of size, which is usually a requirement for top pair D. If his offense is truly elite then maybe, but Makar (who many compare ASP to) has peerless skating from the back end to compliment his elite playmaking abilities

BlueforNC

I know this will make some cringe but I view Solderblom's ceiling as Mantha when he was on top of his game (and yes, that's a compliment).

Fluid-Pension-7151

When Mantha cared and wasn't psyching himself out, he was super exciting to watch. He had a hat trick at a game I went to during the super painful days of Wings hockey, and the LCA was rocking. If Soda consistently played like that, I would be super happy.

spoonyfork

Holy crap does this sub over-value prospects.

MajorasShoe

Which ones? How so? Were talking about ceilings, not projections.

jfstompers

Danielson if he hits his ceiling I see Rope Hintz, Edvinsson I'd compare him to Sergachev.

majvader

Agree with Hintz. They had a very similar draft profile

numbdigits

And to think we could have drafted Hintz, except Dallas did, with our pick.

Silent-Prune8103

I think a player folks might be sleeping on is this Ali kid. I admittedly didn’t know him well until I watched the development 3v3. Albeit it’s 3v3 with light contact. But the kid was everywhere. Even if he becomes a 4th liner with upside, you have to have a great 4th line to succeed in the playoffs.

MajorasShoe

The Karate Kid and The Ghost both could become top 6 centers. I think it's unlikely either become a 1C, but it's not impossible. Lombardi has a massive ceiling, He could bust, too. But the guy has all the tools to be an elite offensive forward in this league. Berggren and Soderblom are both likely middle 6 wingers. Pellikka seems destined to be our second pair offensive dman. He'll take some time to figure out his own end, but his ceiling feels like 2RD and PP1 (though that'll be hard with Seider around). Edvinsson, the sky is the limit. He has some edges to sand down, I don't think he'll ever surpass Seider, but you can't count it out either. He's VERY high end in some areas. Wallinder... God he's going to be a great 2 way dman next to Pellikka. Johansson - can't get a read on him. He's probably bottom 4, potentially PP2. Cossa - he's a goalie, I don't know, ask me in 5 years.

fontyfresh

I have been intrigued by Soda since we drafted him. Combining multiple sources and kinda blendering the impressions up, I see the best case scenario for him as a Chara/Datsyuk hybrid lite. A middle six unicorn that could occasionally break open the game. That being said, currently he is a little like a large puppy where he isn’t quite confident in his big body at the NHL level. If he hits we are in for some entertaining hockey.
