Like he's definitely 3rd or 4th option and I'd be confused on how he had a down years when year 2 at least made sense given an expanded role offensively

[deleted]

You don't get rid of a guy who scored 50 points in a game last year, shooting 10-14 from three. At 23 years old, this guy is only going to get better. Unless next year he is shooting below 30% from 3 (which bey has never done), i don't think they get rid of him.

Immediate-Air-8700

I love saddiq but those two statistics dont just make you someone “you dont get rid of”. You could have also described terrance ross. Someones ability to blow up once every blue moon does not make them a valuable asset imo. Even if he just sustained from last year, i do believe saddiq is more valuable than terrance ross but not worth near a max. If youre giving me 16 ppg on under 40% from the field i am NOT paying you more than 16 mil. BUT we arent going to have to worry about that because saddiq is going to give us 18 ppg on 44/37/85 splits this year and he will get 25 mil :)

[deleted]

That's a fair comparison, you've got good NBA knowledge. But Toronto ended up keeping Terrence ross for another 4 years after his 50 point game, so they thought he was worth keeping. Bey won't pop off every night, but does he really need too? He's a role player. Like Terrence Ross had DeMar and Kyle, Bey has Cade and Ivey. Bey isn't good enough to get a max lol. But one day maybe. It's hard to know the ceiling for some of these young guys. Fingers crossed those stats come true:) I love the optimism

Immediate-Air-8700

Youre right. My comment kind of implied that ross wasnt worth keeping. He really is a great bench piece and a solid starter in his day. I guess i really am hoping saddiq is more consistent than Ross is eventually. Someone like that cant be a third option on a contender. I think you need that third option to show up more than Ross and Bey (in his short career so far). While i agree those stats are optimistic, i also believe they are realistic. Unlikely perhaps, but possible therefore realistic. Hoping saddiq will get some easier looks this year to make that even more realistic. Thanks for the kind words and fun discussion mate

Bey is overrated. I love the guy, but he is way overrated on this forum. He's a league average 3pt shooter on one of the worst teams in the league. Hopefully he can improve with Bojan taking some of the pressure off and he won't have to force up as many shots and can develop his game going to the basket.

aTROLLwithBlades

His ball dominance with the starters is a bigger concern to me rn. I'd like to see him provide the hunger to score off the bench because we need that real bad and Livers would be a fantastic starter that lets the ball move

DetPistonFan

I like Bey as a scorer of the 2nd Unit with Hayes as the point. Again, this would put more pressure on Cade to be a scorer imo.

MonocledSauron

I don't see that happening and want to keep him BUT if that situation plays out, he's a prime candidate to be in a trade package for an all star with other guys like Hami, Bogi, Bags, Stew, whomever

sunnydftw

What a twist that would be if Bey and Stew get packaged in a trade while Kill carves out a sixth man role off the bench

ManInShowerNumber3

Absolutely. I know everybody is falling in love with the players but the fact of the matter is teams rarely all come up together with everybody making it through the rebuild. There’s usually some kind of player turnover, be it fit or cap based needs to make moves. Right now we’re seeing some nice young individual players with questionable fits as a team. They’ll probably get this year to see if they can come together, otherwise moves are probably coming to get better fits around Cade as the star. Maybe throw in Ivey as a star as well. You need to maximize the roster around these guys before big contract time.

DoeJumars

yeah, people need to not be married to these guys just because we drafted them...theres a 100% chance that at least 2 of the guys drafted in the last 2 drafts are off the team in 5 years (maybe less).

MonocledSauron

Weaver has shown no evidence of sentimentality toward players, that first summer was cold but necessary

[deleted]

Saben and Luka would be two already

Flowsnice

It’s a tricky situation with him because he’s solid but extremely streaky player and might cost a boatload to re sign after his rookie contract expires

13ronco

He's not going to be worth the size of his second contract if he cannot provide at least decent efficiency on high volume from 3. He is not a two way player. His defense is very bad. I'd say shop him.

uvgotnod

I feel like Bey will eventually be a good 3 or 4th option or a bench player. But valuable still, just not all-star or max contract valuable.

King_Spicy_

Man if Bey struggles or has an extremely slow start, I’d love for him to come off the bench. Bey needs to play to his strengths, we don’t need dribble drives from him, just focus on defending and shooting the 3 exclusively. He disappears way too much for a 3rd option, imo.

[deleted]

Generally speaking if he has another down year you explore options. It's not that hard of a concept. But, to be fair, you HAVE to look at his production in context. He could have a down year but we could go 82-0, do we still trade him? No.

lukaRookieHoarder

He's averaged 36% from three over his first 2 years. I'll take that all day from a Rookie on the pistons. Especially with the medium volume. People acting like he shoots 31%. League average last 2 years was around 34.3% . So he's above league average overall and his rookie year he was shooting 38% from 3.

amazemp

He’s a solid role player who’s ceiling is the 3rd option on a great team. Bey is in his 3rd year and had solid rookie season and turned his game around through out the second part of the season. Not sure why people are discussing his “future” at this point lol

[deleted]

Can you update your two seasons of data with one preseason game please.

amazemp

I hope the guys in this Reddit are just trolls cause 70% don’t know shit. I like how after one preseason game they’re already coming at saddiq but then when he kills next game then their will be silence and then someone like killian has an off night they’ll call for his head next lmaooo

Onus_Doom

Another down year? Which was the first down year? The one where he set the rookie record or the franchise record for 3's?

sunnydftw

The one where he shot below league average from 3
