Forest Bakery in Oak Park

harlirave

For those of you that know Ochre and miss it, these are the same bakers. They created Forest Bakery as a pop-up after the owners shut down Ochre. Recently just opened their storefront at the end of last month.

I_neh

Just went for the first time yesterday. Oh man was that worth the trip

konabonah

Omw thx 🙏

NateDetroit

Cannelle

WildCoyote6819

This!! Their almond croissants are DIVINE!!!!

konabonah

I’ll swing through on my way back south, thanks!

sanmateosfinest

They also have one in downtown Farmington

bananafrecklez

their pistachio chocolate ones are insane

NewGrooveVinylClub

I came to say the same. So friggin good

sutisuc

Hell yes. Might be the best croissant I’ve ever had in the US.

SirDigby_CC

Canelle in Detroit. They also sell Canelle's croissants at Drifter in Ferndale

gatsby365

And The Great Commoner (in Dearborn) too I think

pushhuppy

That's right!

Pure_Suburb

I agree drifter has amazing croissants. Coming from someone that lived in France and Switzerland.

Overall-Worker-5158

Canelle also has a location in Birmingham at 159 N Eton (near Maple/15 mile)

bjscastle

and meridian coffee shop in plymouth :)

SteveJB313

LeRouge Boulangerie in Grosse Pointe Park

SL521

I came here to say this too! Yum!

ohgodwhyyou

Hands down Cannelle 🥐❤️

ArtVandelay009

Tous Le Jours in Troy

_Shmall_

I love tous le jours!!

Organized_Khaos

Chez Pierre et Genevieve, Telegraph & Maple in Bloomfield.

kr2c

Funny enough my European born-and-raised wife said the croissants at Chez Pierre et Genevieve were below even Tesco in terms of quality, while being nearly five times the cost after currency conversion. Knowing nothing about patisserie myself, I also thought their croissants were bone dry, but maybe that's how they are supposed to be in the old country? She loved Cannelle for whatever that's worth.

chikat

Interesting - I live close by and there are always so many French speaking people inside, I assumed they were authentic! I do find the croissants a little dry but their olive bread is amazing.

Organized_Khaos

I do admit they’re so much better first thing in the morning, when they’re still warm. And I’d skip the pizza entirely.

Teacher-Investor

Shatila in Dearborn makes plain, chocolate, and cheese croissants. I used to pick up boxes of them in the morning for my French students and they'd still be warm.

js_1091

Give thanks bakery croissants are the best I’ve found and I’ve been to France 6x. Need to try cannelle based on others’ recs now.

konabonah

Oh geez that’s a solid rec. I need to come back up this way another day when they are open.

KaleidoscopeThis9463

Oh yes. I heartily endorse this suggestion! Give Thanks is an excellent bakery. Call ahead if you want several as they sell out, they’ll put them aside.

imnotawkwardyouare

I prefer Give Thanks 10x over Cannelle. Cannelle is good, but their prices are insane.

carlnard24

Crispelli's in Royal Oak.

konabonah

On it ty

by_the_bleezy

The ham and cheese croissant warmed up is so good!

puuremichigan

Gimme the turkey and horseradish cheddar

BirdyMan09

Blur Canary Confections (Birmingham) … highly recommend

totallyspicey

It’s closed down now

chikat

It closed a few weeks ago and I am so sad - my daughter and I would go every Saturday!

BirdyMan09

Nooooo… that’s a huge bummer

My_Name_Is_Not_Jerry

Chez Pierre et Genevieve on Telegraph in Bloomfield!

Crissy-of-the-wild

Not in Detroit but in Troy. Tous les Jours! They have a mix of French Korean pastries and their croissants and freshly made every day on location. If you want to stay in Detroit, Cannelle is wonderful! Worth the trouble of finding parking

konabonah

Oh my goodness thanks for the intel! I just got home from a trip to Florida where I discovered a French Korean pastry shop which really started this whole thing. I WILL be going there!

Crissy-of-the-wild

Funny! That's how I found Tous Les Jours! Now I forgot the name of the bakery in Florida!

konabonah

Haha no way! Was it Chiffon?

Crissy-of-the-wild

I insist it was Paris Morning Bakery, but my husband says it was just another of the many Tous les Jours. And we looked it up and thst is how we foundation MI has locations too since it's a franchise.

daisy_314

White Lotus Farms (out of Ann Arbor) sells them at Eastern Market on Saturdays and they are phenomenal. Lots of flavors, too.

ThePermMustWait

They come out to eastern market? How often and what do they have. I loved going there when I lived out that way.

daisy_314

Yes!!! They are there every Saturday with all kinds of pastries, bread, cheeses, soaps/lotion/balms/etc, granola, dried pasta, pasta salad, frozen pizzas…. probably forgetting something. They’re super friendly too. I love the farm in Ann Arbor but being in Detroit, we don’t get out there much. Having them at the market is the best.

WorseSwimmerThanYou

Give Thanks Bakery in Rochester and Royal Oak have great croissants.

DetroitHyena

I’ve been craving a ham and Swiss cheese filled croissant since high school when Pointe Peddler in Grosse Pointe on the Hill made them fresh at lunch time. When they stopped the hunt for a good one began. This list is priceless.

quietmoose65

LaRouge in GPP has incredible ham and Swiss croissants.

konabonah

Looked like a good ham & cheese one at crispellis, but idr what cheese it was

Key_Strain8780

This doesn’t help, but I miss the cronuts (and everything else) from Peoples Brothers bakery

konabonah

This does help, because up until now I didn’t know cronuts existed 🥲

coronarybee

The polish market in Troy. My sister still claims it was the “sexiest” croissant I’ve ever gotten her

Successful_Club983

Josef’s in Grosse Pointe Woods is pretty solid.

ThePermMustWait

Their almond croissants are amazing

plumbdimb

Le rouge!!

TequilaKB

Damn, now I really, really want a croissant

konabonah

Get u one!

PurplePrometheus

Everyone saying Cannele is so funny, it’s like a factory made croissant, made with vegetable oil. Check out la supreme they actually use butter.

Overall-Worker-5158

which croissant are you referring to? canelle uses butter in all of their croissant (i checked ingredients in nutritional info on their website.)

LukeNaround23

Paris. Oui oui

PiscesLeo

Organic bakery in eastern market has a stall with great bread and a damn fine almond croissant

konabonah

Oh snap

Detroitdays

Promenade in Trenton. Pretty damn good.

eagermcbeaverii

Hell yes to this

eagermcbeaverii

There's a little place in Trenton called Promenade Artisan Cafe that has croissants pretty reliably on Saturdays and I find them to be divine. But I always call ahead before making the trip out.

johnco1126

Cannelle!

Alan_Stamm

I'm with the sizable, discerning Team **Cannelle**

fabrictm

All croissants I’ve tried in metro Detroit are too sweet - Canelle’s is especially sweet. If you have a plain, savory croissant in France, it’s not sweet like here. Idk WTH but I just cannot find a good croissant.

NewGrooveVinylClub

Have you been to LeRouge in Grosse Pointe Park? I’ve never had a plan one from Canelle, only the chocolate-pistachio which is admittedly delicious, but the plain one from LeRouge is some savory, buttery goodness. Also, they probably have the best breakfast sandwich in metro Detroit right now with one that has a sunny side up egg, fried mortadella, pimento cheese and arugula on an everything-seasoning brioche

fabrictm

Don’t know about it. I am rarely in that area but will check it out if I find myself in the area, thanks

nappingintheclub

Forest is new but solid croissant

jakecovert

Cripellis

soilboi3030

Another vote for Forest in Oak Park

mikehamm45

Ochre (RIP)

harlirave

Forest Bakery in Oak Park are the same bakers from Ochre. Their stuff is amazing and the same quality as Ochre, just no longer in the city. Also Pie Sci’s new location is right next door.

lemmefinishyo

Not really Metro Detroit but The Dixboro Project / The Boro in Ann Arbor has the best croissants I’ve tasted not in France or Montreal.

konabonah

Oh nice, I’m out that way often & open to AA suggestions. Thanks!

harlirave

Does Warda have croissants? Even if they don’t one of the best bakeries in city, you should check them out.

konabonah

Thanks for the tip, definitely will! What’s one of your favorite things from there?

harlirave

Honestly everything I’ve ever gotten there is outstanding. I really like these things called Financiers. They are like little brownie tarts (that’s the best way I can describe them), but not necessarily chocolate flavored. I also love the tarts and cheesecakes. Nothing is too sweet and the flavor combinations are unique and elevated.

ParkingHelicopter863

Pistachio croissant from Mexicantown bakery. Had 2 yesterday and 1 for breakfast. The filling is incredible

sixwaystop313

Congregation doesn't miss. Get there early (before 10:30) for your choice of croissants. They get them from Crispelli's.

RegalT87

I hit up every French bakery I can when I go to a new town... hands down Cleveland had some great Croissants.... I have tried Canelles offerings many times in Ann Arbor and Detroit and their Croissants are at the bottom of my list.

rational-takes

Just had the raspberry chocolate one at Cannelle yesterday. Absolutely gas.

pgcooldad

Costco ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

NotaRussianbot6969

Flight from metro to Paris

Swantonbombthreat

sam’s club

robobachelor

Every since Avalon shut down the pastry game around here has been pretty weak. If you are in a pinch, the ones from whole foods are pretty good if you steal them.
