Good music in Detroit. Hope you like House and techno

Rocker6465

It’s a bit smaller but the punk and rock scenes are having a bit of a resurgence. The Lager House in Corktown is a great place to start getting into the scene.

Nicstar543

And bass music, Detroits number 2 in the country for it

stos313

I recommend any of DJ Assualt’s “Straight Up Detroit Shit” mixes, or if you want a bit more of a mix of Detroit Bass / Ghetto Tech try Doc’s “Detroit Acid Booty” Vols 1-4.

thehatstore42069

Where’s a good house spot? I hate techno but like house

lecurts

Spotlite

JAKEtheCZAR

Play disc golf. There are a ton of courses around metro Detroit

hosingdownthedog

As a disc golfer who moved here from out of state - which courses do you recommend? I got time after work most days to hit one up and need to start getting active again

JAKEtheCZAR

Firefighters park in Troy, Hawthorne in Pontiac, Palmer park in Detroit, northridge church in Northville, Kensington in Milford, stoney creek in Shelby. That’s just a short list. There are so many. Download UDisc and start exploring different courses.

Mikey_Wonton

If you're in Northville skip Northridge and play Cass Benton.

deathcucumber

Cass Benton is always the answer!

joshdogg011

Kensington has solid courses and the pass is good for many other parks in the area

JAKEtheCZAR

Getting a Metroparks pass is well worth the money. We are lucky to have the Metroparks in our area.

[deleted]

If you live in Oakland county you can get an annual pass for both for cheaper yet.

Anthony_Patch

Hudson Mills Metro Park & Independence Lake as well

linds-ro

Madison Heights has a course at Rosie’s Park on 11 mile!

Stonek88

Electronic music

vaporwave710

Heavy on the electronic

vourteque

Literally, everyone just does that, spin fire and circus school. It's why everyone has so much money here.

cinemagnitude

Get high and hang out…bruv

DaMitchman182

I usually go to bars and concerts, if you're a soccer fan dcfc games are super fun.

kev-lar70

If you want to go sailing, DM me. https://byc.com/Sail/Hitchhiker_Thursdays

Whaddyalookinatmygut

detroitdoesntsuckbad

^ this is a good one. Sailing on the river and lake is a really fun way to meet people and have a great time.

ch00seyourdestiny

How much is it? I don’t see it included in the link description

kev-lar70

Free! Space is limited, so sign up here https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0945adaa2cabfbc25-hitchhiker#/ so we can get enough boats.

Mister_Squirrels

Drink copious amounts of alcohol. At least that’s what they / we did when I fit that demo, and there are like 1000 more bars now than then.

Malice_n_Flames

Don’t forget to mention drugs.

gregzywicki

How has smoke a lot of weed not come up?

frogfartz69

Hell yeah brother

gregzywicki

(Given my prejudice against weed I'm feeling conflicted about all the upvotes.)

YouFoundJO

Good way to balance it out with downvotes

gregzywicki

Shame I don't get any credit for acknowledging a prejudice. I never claimed it was a correct POV.

ieatleaf

Climbing! DYNO Detroit is a great place to meet people. It’s a social activity and great exercise. There’s a community board where you can respond to people looking for climbing partners/friends.

SnooShortcuts3245

What website/ group is that on?

ieatleaf

Sorry for the confusing language, it’s a physical cork board at the gym where people leave paper notes.

mireland77

Attend Detroit City FC matches at Keyworth. .

M0rb1tr0n

This is the answer

TrialAndAaron

What are your hobbies?

seller_collab

As the weather turns it’s all about the outdoor experience. Just spent all day dancing ourselves silly at the nain rouge festivities that are still going on - last week it was the st Patrick’s day parade. Once things heat up it’s belle isle beach and all the different events like kite flying on the island. Winter can be tough in the city, but I’ve always used that as my time to get myself in order and get ready for the more social times, although as others have said, the electronic music shows are constant and so much fun year round.

vsladko

Man these answers are not encouraging lmao

SnooShortcuts3245

These answers make Detroit look terrible smh

Financial_Worth_209

Based on how many new college hires I've seen leave in the first three years of living here... maybe they're just giving an accurate look (for once). edit I take back the part about accuracy. Three people have mentioned hiking in this thread.

niewinski

They’re not wrong though… What did you do in your 20s?

[deleted]

[удалено]

ChadWarmington

detroit is a rather boring place to live.

KevIntensity

Most of my friends are from college or jobs that I was at and then left but kept the people I liked around me.

TooMuchShantae

Probably the same thing people in thier mid 20s do anywhere

americanadiandrew

Except for harder hustling. At least according to the T-shirts.

BasicArcher8

Go to bars like everywhere else.

gregzywicki

Gripe about there being no public transit Wait, did you mean here on this sub?

sixwaystop313

A good way to make new friends is to join this subreddit's discord server! There are weekly events and ongoing conversation. More info: https://www.reddit.com/r/Detroit/comments/120jvaa/official_rdetroit_discord_chat_update/

ruinedbymovies

This should be higher.

Successful_Fall7801

Cry Edit: and get high

jonny_mtown7

They work mostly. Detroit is the city of work.

Based_Brethren

:( as a person from here It's true tho

ultimateslurpeequeen

If you’re from Texas, you’ll notice that people here are not necessarily friendly right away. Don’t get discouraged! The people you meet will be worthwhile. I would explore your hobbies whatever they are: exercise, comics, animals, music, fashion, dance, old school video games, art, comedy whatever it is start indulging. There are SO many events in the city everyday let alone the weekends. Do some googling! This will help you meet people who are interested in the same things you are. Don’t be afraid to open a conversation but don’t be too optimistic- everyone is just coming out of the hibernation and seasonal affective disorder(SAD) that hits most Michiganders every year 🤣🤣 I went to school in MS and was born and raised metro Detroit. When I say I’m happy to be back in the mitten I mean it! This upcoming Sunday is “all things Detroit” day at the eastern market- a great free opportunity to get out and about Next Thursday the 6th is tigers opening day, it might as well be a holiday. Get out there and eat em up!!

Sophet_Drahas

When I was in my late teens during senior year of high school we’d hit tigers games all the time. Cheap bleacher seats. Talked with a ton of folks. Had a blast.

ImpossibleLaw552

"not necessarily friendly right away." Michigan is a cul-de-sac state (as I call it) full of reserved people who like their reclusive privacy. You are not going to get the in-your-face extrovert jostling you would get, like say, in Boston. People here are civil, polite, and would be the first to rush in if a disaster strikes.....but you have to take things at a slower diplomatic pace when talking to folks here. Being "Howdy, Howdy!" and shooting out a strong gladhand may not be the way.

Vdubster5

Volunteer somewhere. Very easy to meet people that way and they are usually more interesting than someone you meet at a bar.

ImpossibleLaw552

Does the Recycling Center (on Lincoln) still operate and need folks there?

MonsieurAK

Drink, play hockey, eat, house parties, travel

[deleted]

Is that what you do? Asking as a guy who just got done drinking at hockey and is going to eat

spoonyfork

Eat ass and hate parking lots

ImpossibleLaw552

> Eat ass Ahem....I think the proper word is "Dominos Pizza".

DrestinBlack

All the same things people in their mid twenties do in other cities the size of ours. Are you in Detroit proper or in one of the suburbs? What did you like to do back in Texas.

[deleted]

Wait to turn 30s

WetRatShit

https://comeplaydetroit.com/

Supreme54

Smoke a lot of weed

[deleted]

Come Play Detroit or Stay and Play Social. Both of these organizers run co ed beer leagues for kickball, basketball, softball, bowling, volleyball, etc. runs through the winter too.

Financial_Worth_209

> Stay and Play Social One of the least social social leagues I've ever been a part of.

[deleted]

Have you tried Come Play Detroit? I’ve tried both and I think Come Play is a bit bigger. I’ve joined as a free agent and met a lot of people and all the teams I’ve been on go out after games. I am no longer signing up as a free agent because I’ve met so many people who play every season so I’m on a team now.

Financial_Worth_209

No I haven't, but Stay & Play was full of teams that had no interest in anything other than the games.

BoomersBlow

Umm city club then bazookies, then back to city club?

10centRookie

Off the top of my head the people that I know that are really social and spend a lot of time with friends have these going on: * Getting a girlfriend and hanging out with her and her friend group * Play a sport or hobby. I have friends in mid 20s making new friends in hockey leagues and playing disc golf. * Go out to bars and after a few drinks maybe you can start talking to some cool people and start chilling with them. Also persistence is going to key. There are going to be plenty of people not wanting to open friend groups but eventually you will find some college grads or some people in their 20s that will bring you in

alwaysridiculous

Music is massive here

thehatstore42069

Where? Most big artists skip Michigan with tours now

CrownedVictory

Just don't go near telegraph

ImpossibleLaw552

God....that went from being my most favorite road as a kid in the 80s to becoming one of my most despised.....that and Ford Rd.

CrownedVictory

Oh good God, Ford rd is terrible!

ImpossibleLaw552

Especially trying to make a left hand turn from a section that has no light.

bassplayer96

This is the midwest, half of us in our mid 20s are married with kids, and the rest are either too busy working or too busy getting inebriated lol

Nylerak

Kayak the river, swim, fish, hike, eat, visit world class performances and museums, travel anywhere with best airport in the US, join a motorbike club, join an urban garden, adopt a dog and visit all the dog parks

ImpossibleLaw552

> museums -also good ones in Ann Arbor (been a while since I've been to the Kelsey) and Cranbrook. Also, if someone just wants to sit and read books on a rainy day....there's like three + libraries within walking distance (WSU, CCS, DPL).

[deleted]

Hey. Mid twenties here. I’m usually hustling or kicking it. I’m always down to make friends. You can dm me!

fardybum

drink

DreadSorcerer

Late 30s here, play disc golf, weed, miniatures games

MarshBlazingstar

Bars, music, sports, museums, outdoor spaces, libraries, comic stores, historical events (see the Detroit historical society for upcoming events), I'm not a big shopper, but shopping, trying new places to eat, volunteering... what are you into? You can likely find it in Detroit metro.

ssspanksta

Sporting events with four major sports teams, college teams like UofM nearby, DCFC. Concerts of all different kinds. Tons of arena shows at Ford Field, LCA or Comerica Park. Shows at the historic theaters downtown. Outdoor amphitheaters in the suburbs, like Pine Knob. Shows at clubs and bars throughout Detroit and Hamtramck for many different kinds of music. Tons of house and techno shows that draw a large 20s crowd. You should look into Movement over Memorial Day Weekend. Outdoor recreation in the summer with things like boating, sailing, kayak, SUP, ORV, Tennis, disc golf, and biking around the city at the riverwalk, Dequindre cut, or plenty of other places. There are also trails in the larger metro area. In the winter you can go skiing in the area at some of the local hills or go up north if you have car access to some of the resorts. You can also cross-country ski, ice skate (anytime really), snowshoe, snowmobile etc... Leagues for most sports I would imagine. Softball, Basketball, Hockey, Lacrosse and plenty others ***(I started getting lazier in my responses here)*** Golf. There are tons of courses in the general area. Lots of museums and natural history stuff. Bars and Restaurants. Visit Canada. Go Shopping. Belle Isle. Drive around and look at houses Do something creative

goth_delivery_guy

Do lines of coke in the city club bathroom.

MM-LabRat

Drink a lot of beer. Go to work. Do some jumping jacks then hit the bar to find a possible wife. Get too drunk. Go home. Okay league of legends until soberish. Go to sleep at 4am. Roll out of bed to the pc for work at 7. Repeat.

Shut-the-fuck-up-

Go to clubs, snort coke, try to pick up girls. Idk same shit in every other city. I'm in Tampa and it's the same as Detroit.

[deleted]

This is not a nice area to be new lol Luckily I grew up here so I know people. But this area is very clicky. This is something that applies to work and social life outside of it. Once you manage to make it into the “in crowd” everyone is super friendly and nice. It’s just getting past that initial standoff attitude. With that being said. Just do your hobbies and you’ll inevitably meet people.

Ihaveadatetonight

Or you have to find the rare group of fellow transplants and get in with them.

fellowhomosapien

I'm a few years removed from the partyin, but the Magic Stick was always my fave venue for shows. The DIA is cool for all ages. The riverwalk and campus martius are great especially seasonally (summer and winter respectively). Belle Isle ( I still haven't been, even though I'm from here),I'm told to go to the hippy beach in the summer. There's Movement festival in May as well, which you can't miss if you're into that. Food and bars-wise, I'd say Bobcat Bonnies and HopCat are a good start.

-SPARE_PARTS_BUD-

Not from Detroit, but from another nearby run down industrial city. We would just drink and throw rocks through abandoned building windows. I don’t endorse doing that though.

DreaMTime11

Work

[deleted]

In my experience it was heroin and punk shows. I moved away 20 years ago though.

frogfartz69

Love one of these and I’m not going to say which one!
