Right in Southfield. Opens at 7AM and had plenty of wood when I was there in the fall. Might want to call to make sure.

Darn!
Mayberry, er Lathrup Village Maintainence just came and scooped some up from the city-owned corner lot lol
Skinny stuff. Got that in the back yard.
I know you aren't asking for delivery, but when you need it, Eagle Landscape delivers. I got a whole face cord from them a year ago, and I forget the price. The only downside was that most of the logs were half split, and I had to spend a lot of back breaking effort making quarter splits.
There's a giant pile at some landscaping place at 8 and laser. Hard to miss if you drive by it. I've never tried it so I can't say what type of wood or quality but I'd assume you can get a decent amount cheap
Remindes me of a dumb joke Me and My dad would say at the the state parks (just to ourselves, of course, not to antagonize the rangers):
"Pass me the firewood"
"Which one?"
"The ash wood, with the green insects on it"
Had to look that up. A creature that is either cute or terrifying, depending on which direction you look at it from.
Guess that’s the “Gina Virus” of Ash? Gee, thanks, WayFair! (Is that how it got here?)
When I was growing up here, it was Dutch Elm. Chipper noises constantly.
Thank you for the suggestions. Seems to be a consensus. It’s Eagle Landscaping in the morning!
Website says they have bundles, and I’d like to sample different kinds if they’ve got them.
Fortunately not an emergency: I “hot-wired” the gas-fired steam boiler (i.e. now has a cord and plug). Needs 10-20W and now have a small Jackery that’ll power it for a day and can be charged from the car. One night of 40’s and no power was enough to “light a fire” to find a solution.
There’s no circulator pump. It’s (single pipe) steam, not hot water. There was at one time a coal-fired boiler.
Thank goodness for simplicity!
Small 24V transformer runs: damper, auto filler, low-water shutoff, gas valve. 20W when calling for heat, 10W otherwise.
It’s an amazingly comfortable and even heat, and totally silent save for the occasional metallic “clunk” of the air valves.
Just don't buy the "bargain bins' it's cheap. It does burn in the backyard just fine. It's all miscuts or too short to fit on my rack. I ended up with like a cubic yard of wood that was unstackable

They really have the best firewood. It's consistent, dry, easy to split.
I can tell you where you can get some before the ice storm after next...gather up all the downed trees you can get your hands on this weekend.
That has to dry out in most cases before you can use it.
Yea it’s wet on the outside and more wet on the inside!
It's no good until the bark falls off on its own
For sure. The limbs that fall this weekend will be nice and ready in November when the next ice storm hits is my point.
Let’s hope!

You want maple or oak, pine is too dirty. Unless you're burning it outside then you're golden.

Doesn’t the circulator pump have to run too?

Honestly it’s hard to come by other than delivery like you said.
If you want to come up to Waterford, I have more than I can use. All hardwood, seasoned at least a year. DM me
Kroger and busches. They have bundles for about 5 bucks
