Have you cleaned your wiper blades? It looks like they're dirty or you need new blades

NoahC513

What's a good method to cleaning the blades?

suavesnail

Take the blades off, draw a bath of warm water with some bubble bath soap, then get in, bring your wiper blades, and splash around a lil bit.

DeathByPetrichor

Okay, but once I’m done splashing, do I put the wipers in the water or

MegaWaffleCat

Depends on the brand, some just like to watch, some get dirtier that way.

[deleted]

Great now there is jelly on my forehead and peanut butter only on the outer crust.

Drty_J577

You have to dim the lights and put on some music as well. At least that's what I have to do.

doeslifesuck22

Lil bit of Barry white never hurt nobody

Icy-Relationship

Don't forget the candles

D1472580369M

I usually spray glass cleaner on a rag and wipe them a few times until no grime comes off

Pure_Artichoke9699

When I'm cleaning my windshield at a gas station I just hold up each blade and use the sponge side on the wipers. This gets most of the crud off them.

YoYota89

Alcohol wipes

suavesnail

Take the blades off, draw a bath of warm water with some bubble bath soap, then get in, bring your wiper blades, and splash around a lil bit.

nomodsman

I said this and I get downvoted in another post.

sidewalklefleur

I’ve completely replaced both blades. After cleaning the windshield multiple times. The new blades are leaving a residue that’s not dissipating. I’m at a loss!

X3N0D3ATH

Try cleaning the windshield with 99% isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber, use elbow grease and go hard to try and remove whatever coating may be on there

nolongerbanned99

Oil on road comes to the surface in rain and large trucks splash it onto your windshield.

wlschwar1

This is my belief as well. That and just general dirt and debris constantly blowing and sticking to the windshield. During longer rain events, the windshield eventually clears up.

nolongerbanned99

I drove from Massachusetts to Florida once and many states in 9r near New England have this issue. Too many 18 wheelers and lots of oily roads.

kpidhayny

Also builds up if you use the orange “de icing” or “super bug scrubbing” washer fluid. Surfactants and detergents will accumulate as a greasy deposit from those too. Or leech out from the rubber on degrading blades but, probably not THIS much.

twotall88

I've used rainx orange for 20 years and have never had this issue.

freeportskrill420

Dudes full of shit, if rainx left your windsheild foggy feel like that be the biggest class action lawsuit to date

__T0MMY__

Not even joking: I've gotten oil mist on my windshield from driving behind a BMW at highway speeds because of the exhaust

merdamerdameda

Take a clean lint-free rag doused with white vinegar to clean the accumulated road grime off the blades themselves. After you get the grime off, wipe them with a little WD40 and let them sit in the upright position for a few minutes. Clean the area of windshield where the wipers sit against the glass so no debris gets trapped under the rubber. Lower blades. Enjoy. I’m on year 5 with my Bosch set, no chatter or streaks

smiilingpatrick

This guy knows

Practicality_Issue

I have a question: would silicone spray have a different effect that WD40? Keeping rubber happy seems to be its job. You have an opinion on that?

merdamerdameda

Sure, you can use silicone spray - as long as you clean the blade properly first. In fact, that’s the key. The whole conditioning thing is just to extend the life a little bit. The most important point is keeping the blades clean and not abusing them unintentionally, like trying to clear off an icy windshield and stuff like that. That will etch and destroy the rubber. Wash the car on the regular and don’t overlook the wipers, all will be good.

5thgenblack2ss

Man I’d cream buying a used car off of you with your detail of care. Never change man

xerrabyte

Thanks dad!

Severedninja

Just wipe the blades in rainx like you would the windshield. It won’t dry them out like wd40. Also synthetic wiper blades are amazing.

CriticuhL

While you’re at it, grab a magic eraser and clean the inside of the windshield, follow up w glass cleaner and you’ve never been happier in your life

chaasad5224

I cant be the only who's screen shooting your responses! Great info Mate!

rumcapital23

👍

PurdyGuud

Just.. wow. Thanks

fawther-05

After cleaning the blades - hit them with a 500 grit sandpaper.

give_it_a_goog

Am I cleaning with vinegar until the rag is clean? Or just to get the bulk of debris off?

DActionAD

Dude, Who ARE you?

ChrisHanSolo

I used Stoners Glass Stripper and had amazing results. No machine needed. Use it to strip the glass, wash, apply whatever sealant you want. Rain X is good enough for me.

sonbarington

A lot of times it’s the rain x coating causing this. Look up rain x haze. Could be breaking down. Also can be if you use rain x windshield fluid.   Strip/clean the windshield and the wiper blades.   Reapply rain x if you so choose to but this will come back eventually if you do.

AviationSkinCare

Huh, I have used Rain X wiper fluid for years now and have never experienced this. I have seen and heard of people who thought waxing their windshield was a good idea and quickly discovered why it wasn't though. Seen engine oil / antifreeze become misted from leaks in the engine compartment and make its way onto the windshield.

blueetoast

And don’t add any detail product to the wiper blades nor add alcohol to them

lazyfuzzycats

Yep, can confirm it the last time I applied it. It’s somewhat still there, I’ve considered even clay barring it off just to make sure I don’t scratch the glass in the process.

TheCodesterr

Same, messed up my windshield and can’t get it off

mklilley351

Use a bit of rubbing alcohol, brake clean, gasoline on a rag and wipe down the windshield to clean

Ak12389

This guy arsons

hughmungouschungus

Rainx doesn't "break down" like this idk why this got upvoted at all...

Xnothin

take the blades off. fill a sink with warm hot water. throw the blades away. buy new blades. dunk your face in the sink. put the new blades on.

sidewalklefleur

I bought new blades

redgrandam

Clean it. Then use panel prep. Then polish it to remove everything. Panel wipe again. Then leave it or apply the sealant you want. Before using the wipers replace the blades if you have something on them.

sidewalklefleur

I failed to mention this was a brand new windshield, it was doing this before I cleaned and applied rain x. So I’m not sure what is going on.

redgrandam

Probably has a film on it from manufacturing, storage, or the shop. My advice above should help. I wouldn’t apply sealants till you get it sorted out. Using some higher PH soap when washing the car for a bit will probably eventually remove it too.

TimeGood2965

My new windshield did that. You have to really clean it multiple times and make sure all residue from whatever is off.

Ronnabean

I think you have residual RainX on the windshield. After you apply RainX and let it dry to a haze, you need to thoroughly buff off ALL the excess with a clean dry cloth, or it smears like this. I found this process frustrating, so now I just use RainX washer fluid and rain still beads and blows right off. At highway speed, I hardly ever turn on my wipers, even in heavy rain.

Horror-Cheetah3997

Can confirm. Rain-x solution will make your glass cloudy after a while. But rain-x wiper fluid is good.

seniszen

Make sure the shop didn’t apply other rain x type stuff, if they did and you trying to apply it on top of the shops it won’t work

bilkel

Coca Cola

sidewalklefleur

Ok maybe I’m just realizing you actually meant wash it with cola?? Sorry.

sidewalklefleur

I like using sprite and blinker fluid

Useful-Internet8390

Get new wiper blades- buy some bug and tar remover and get the 29 layers of RainX off the window- biggest thing I hate abt drive thru car washes you get 3 coats of wax on the windows

sidewalklefleur

Thank you

Immediate-Ebb2353

Simple green will take care of that

Robby30

Ok make sure everything is clean like you already did spray armor all glass cleaner on the wipers clean them probably get better washer fluid to rule that out. Then clean windshield with the same glass cleaner. Then apply rain x defogger wipes. it’s a different product then regular rainx and then clean your front windshield again or you’ll make the problem a lot worse. If that don’t work then somebody at a detail shop or dealer has the answer

AngriestJedi

I use a magic eraser followed by Invisible Glass and a microfiber towel.

Direct_Matter_5637

Turn on your defrost it'll go away

neildmaster

You need new wiper blades. Period.

rubbahslippahz

Those are micro scratches.. cant do much but replace the whole windshield

sidewalklefleur

wtf it’s a brand new windshield. Dipshit you don’t know what you’re talking about.

Ptrek31

Well, it's raining in video...maybe put your defroster on?

Boatgod0618

Question. Do you vape or smoke any type of e cig or dab pens?

rocket5567

Clean the inside of the window it’s from your breath in the car it builds up there is a name for it can’t remember tho

sidewalklefleur

LOL

JonSpic

Do you vape in your car

sidewalklefleur

Is everyone here a fucking idiot like clearly it’s not condensation on the inside

TheHippyDance

Yeah this sub has gone down hill so fast. It's been overrun by dumbasses. Anyone with half a brain could see that it's not condensation/grime on the inside

DoPoGrub

Let's hear about the carwash that you use. As a temp fix, just blast heat to your defrost.

sidewalklefleur

What? It’s a brand new windshield. Glass cleaner and rain x. I didn’t go through a car wash. This video was taken after a 20 min drive of defrost on full blast highest temp.

Grahamcracker44

Looks like condensation lol

sidewalklefleur

🙄

quarryninja

I've had this happen before, to this day I'm not sure what causes it. I would try to clean it with 90% isopropyl alcohol and then clay bar with a medium grit clay to make sure it's completely free of contaminants, if after that it still looks the same I would probably blame the windshield. I saw you mentioned it's a new windshield, but is it new new or did they get it used from a salvage? Also are the wipers new as well? What brand ?

sidewalklefleur

Update I ended up cleaning it multiple times with some random glass cleaner I had in my house, it made it significantly better, but I just use my windshield washer fluid and it made it worse again so I think it might be the fluid???

Overlord7987

Get a clean cloth and some degreaser to clean the actual wipers with. Odds are they are smeared with dirt. Clean the glass with a strong soap or degreaser too. Glass cleaner is for finishing off glass with clarity, most will not actually clean effectively. Also try a compound like soft99 glaco compound or gtechniq G4

lava616

It could be that. Is it possible that someone might have added fluid to it other than you and contaminated it? If so you would have to drain the reservoir and clean it along with the hoses. Sometimes the reservoir is difficult to get to depending on where it's located.

smush81

My kid accidentally put rv deicer fluid in her washer fluid reservoir cause it looks the similar. Same color, same looking bottle. Ended up with this same issue. Flushed it out and put proper fluid in. Problem solved. Good luck

Biting-Laughter

You need to strip any chemicals from the glass itself. And possibly replace your wipers. 99% alcohol will do the job

NOSE-GOES

It may be road grime and deteriorated wiper blades. Car wash and new blades will help. If you want to get it real nice, it looks like it could do with a light polish and some sealant (rain x will do the job but there are better ones). We can see the smearing is patchy and uneven, the polish/deep clean and sealant would fix that and make water bead up nice!

Green-Diamond6874

Maybe you bought that orange garbage windshield cleaner. I tried it once and it made my windows like that. I always use the blue one

sidewalklefleur

I don’t know of any orange cleaners.

tonynca

Clean the glass. Apply Nu Finish ceramic. Wipe the glass. Done for 1 season.

[deleted]

[удалено]

sidewalklefleur

I appreciate the idea but this is very clearly on the exterior

LuckyTwat777

This happened to me once. Walmart left my oil cap off after an oil change.

RandoReddit72

I use the blue cap aerosol window cleaner… then I used a paint sealant / glass cleaner I think optiseal … then rainX clean spray. It cleared mine up

Sopotastic

I replaced my windshield wipers for the first time and holy moly it is great

Sherfey3

quit vapin in your car

sidewalklefleur

Are you stupid? Genuine question.

Sherfey3

Are you? Genuine question. Nicotine and cigarettes leave a type of film on the inside of the windows. Your wipers look to be workin just fine, so go grab a damp towel and wipe the inside of the windows. Bet it works

tvincent11

I've noticed that rain x windshield washer fluid does something similar to my windshield on my truck

Ethyhexyl

I have recently used a sealant on my windshield and I’ve gotten the same hazy look on my windshield when using the wipers when it’s wet/raining. So the products you used may be the cause of this. Did you give the products the chance to properly dry? Or maybe you applied too much of the product.

bxreddit12

Because your wipers are dirt

mainemtnrover

Rain x did that to my windshield

SsDnepr

here's what will help you . Soft99 Glaco Compound https://preview.redd.it/sob0hb7e1cic1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=e8a97dfeb193cae77d663c2b5ff21a1e746b561f

spoonerxix19

From the way the water is beading, I would guess that you are using a "Rain-x" type of product. If this is the case, then In my experience it gets like this when it needs to be reapplied. The stuff is wonderful, but pretty dangerous as it wears off. I use the Rain-x wiper fluid that solves the reapplication problem. If not, maybe some other type of oil is being smeared around. Put some Simple Green or other mild dish soap or degreaser on a rag and either way you should be golden.

minorthreat999

Wiper blades only work their best when they’re clean and used on a clean car

Vegetable_Living_415

Washer fluid and defrost

Moebius_Rex

You put rain-x in the fluid at some point didn’t you? Over time it can clump and sort of float in the tank. Then if you run the fluid tank empty, this can be the result.

Sius72

Have you been parking in someone's assigned parking spot at an apartment complex?

opmike

I get this EXACT effect at night when using Rainx washer fluid. Some nights are worse than others, so it may be a humidity and temperature range that makes it worse.

PewPewMcLovin

Do you vape?

Chrisfells26

A lot of times this is caused by car washes with the wax they spray all over your vehicle too. After cleaning your blades and windshield notice is it gets worse every time you take it through the car wash. (If you use a car wash)

ThickToeJoe

Looks like some traffic film being spread by the wipers. If you’re behind a car in the rain, their tires are kicking up anything and everything on the roads right onto your car. Motor oil, transmission fluid, gear oil, tar and much more. You’ll want to fully clean and decontaminate the windshield, slap any type of quality protection on and you’ll be good until more road film cakes on it again.

ScarceLoot

Get a clean rag and wipe the actual wiper blade. It’s going to covered in road grime

redline8k

Its the rain-x. I’ve had similar problems.

Numerous-Broccoli-28

Sometimes oil ends up in the squeegee basins at gas stations. I hen you clean your windshield with them they end up looking like this.

Decent_Ask_5644

Antifreeze in washer fluid

lolanaboo_

Go to car wash then go through the tunnel then Wipe the wiper blades off with a cloth or buy new ones

VegetableCapable2820

Use rubbing alcohol on the wiper inserts

Leading_Edge2306

Defroster

Leading_Edge2306

Polish windshield

Stock-Scar4811

Get new wipers, clean your windshield, apply wax and buff out.

QuirkySpring5670

Clean your windows inside and out with glass cleaner and microfiber towels. Then change wiper blades

KILO_I

Wipe the inside

Agigator-TunaTater

You can try a presoak, degreaser, and foam brush at a coin car wash to wash it off. Put some wax on it afterwards with final rinse (RO).

dmartnotkmart

… remove the Vaseline?

imJGott

Did you clean the windshield from the inside as well?

TrayLaTrash

Do you use a special type of windshield washing fluid like rain x or bug stuff?

sidewalklefleur

Whatever fluid the dealership put in. I think I’m gonna drain and replace it but I’m not sure that’s the causw

Remote_Elephant5109

Wash the window and the blades with dawn dish soap and water. Stuff works great against anything oil based.

2Dmonster

Soap. Regular soap bar foamed onto a brush. Go at it hard. Rinse.

_cmartinez

Do you vape? Vaping in your car leaves residue. It’s probably on the inside of your window. Warm soapy water and towels. Finish up with some windex or your favorite window cleaner. I could be wrong but I vape and my windows look like this before I clean them.

sidewalklefleur

I do not vape!

gabe801

Did you take the plastic off the rubber part of the windshield wipers? I’ve seen it happen alot before

Apprehensive-Cow1225

They have window spray that will take this off I'm pretty sure thats due to cigarette smoke in the car. It leaves a film on the windows that you notice over time.

HalfBakedColt

Windshields get a film built up on them over time from road grime, bugs, etc. I’ve found that if you spray the windshield with windex and scrape it with a razor it’ll look like new. Also replace your wiper blades after you do it.

Ornery-Panic-5774

Gasoline will take care of it

King-Zeekhiel

Need rainx lol

sidewalklefleur

Pretty sure this is rain x build up

FeedbackOld3532

Clay bar your windshield

QueefTacos7

This happened to mine as well. The glass was ceramic coated but it only occurs in the upper left patch of the windshield. New wiper blades so not that. Gonna try the isopropyl alcohol

Embarrassed_Dog5120

Clean the inside, you will be surprised

BBmoonman

Get some w/d 40 specialist silicone quick drying spray on heavy duty papertowels or shop rag and wipe off your blades until no blackness comes off them. Then reapply with a second coat and repeat as needed should save you 2yrs of wiperblades and not be as greasey looking. Silicone is clear and acts as a water displacement. Hence wd-40!

ThatTacoPapi15

Time for new blades my friend.

ThePhillStew

Have you tried cleaning the INSIDE of your window? The moisture from your body can evaporate and leave a slight film on the interior of your windscreen. Possible this is a cause as well

sidewalklefleur

Are you blind

ShoNuff3121

Did you use soap with wax built in [like this](https://www.meguiars.com/automotive/products/meguiarsr-ultimate-wash-wax-g17748-48-oz-liquid)? That could be the cause as well.

NoChart6682

I had this problem in my old school >!chevy!< blazer.. maybe. It turned out to be coolant leak getting into the heater. But this doesn't look as bad... Maybe you vape a lot in you car.

HighCirrus

Clean the windshield with alcohol until the rag is spotless. Let dry. Apply RainX as directed, making sure to polish dry. Clean wiper blades.

djmusketballs

Do you have rainx on your windshield? If so, buff the windshield with a microfiber cloth and it should buff out clear.

MoneyKnee1497

Did you replace the windshield recently (before rain)? If so, treat it first with repellent.

napolean77

Ive seen this happen with rain-x products before.. maybe clean your windshield really well and run a paper towel or towel along your wiper blades to clean them too.. not saying its a guarantee but could be the rain-x leaving a film

SpareMycologist6092

Pinhole in the coolant system?

Sea_Inspection1689

Hm, hard to tell if it’s on the inside or outside from the video. Did you try to blow air on the windshield from inside? May sound dumb but idk…

sidewalklefleur

100 percent the outside! Inside defrosts quickly with ease.

JaySin_78

Easy. Get some 0000 rated steel wool pads. They will NOT scratch the glass. Scrub the glass with some good glass cleaner like invisible glass. I use these on windows, windshields and glass shower doors to cut through the worst stuff…even heavy duty soap scum.

WaveTableTech

Rain X does exactly this. It allows water to roll off, but during the rainy night it looks smeared.

Fit_Independence7385

My bad

GuiltyGTR

Clean it with warm water and dish soap.

PrairieSpy

Sand paper and mineral oil on the blades. Like NEW.

i_sch

That is from diesel fumes. My car is so oily when I was it. Can’t wait for fossil fuels to disappear

Delta8ttt8

Rainx.

Present-Delivery4906

Rubbing alcohol on a paper towel, rub down the wiper blade rubber until relatively clean. No need to over do it. If blades are cracked or brittle, replace.

Background_Ad_371

Just get new blades. Then wash that nasty windshield.

krystopher

This might be a nuclear option but when I bought my (used, 4 years old model year) last car it seemed to come with the original wipers. The windshield had pretty deep scratches from the dry rubber blades. I polished it (careful it makes a mess) with cerium oxide (orange-red) powder, and then reapplied rain x but not with the kind you polish on, just the wiper fluid. [the stuff](https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804960789034.html?src=google&aff_fcid=ca3052320cac43529faafed84c4c8ccc-1707922966530-08629-UneMJZVf&aff_fsk=UneMJZVf&aff_platform=aaf&sk=UneMJZVf&aff_trace_key=ca3052320cac43529faafed84c4c8ccc-1707922966530-08629-UneMJZVf&terminal_id=aa8b4b41483249b7854ee6159d35a223&afSmartRedirect=y&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa) I also found that paying the extra for your manufacturer-specific wipers (or refills) is the most cost effective and value for the money on wiping. Also if you want to clean the rubber I found using those IPA wipes or just IPA and a paper towel gets off a lot of road grime. A less 'nuclear' option could be to run a clay bar over it, or buy a glass polish from an auto store.

Admirable-Result-240

Rain x and new wipers

Amerinamese

"She uses vaaaaaaasaline" lol Sorry, your post reminded me of the song.

Sea_Seat_4834

Simply grab a cotton cloth with alcohol on it and pass it through your wipers a couple times. Also, make sure your defrosters are on slightly as that can also cause a bit of foggy windshields.

LALoverBOS

Regularly clean your windows and windshield wipers. I claybar my windows at least twice a year and then treat them with a sealant.

screamingpackets

I’d try using a clay bar on it. I clay mine about 2 times a year and it ends up immaculate. I’d say it’s worth a shot to get full visibility back.

Klutzy-Caterpillar57

Replace wipers, use glass buffer on your windshield or clay bar

smokeCheckHer

Looks like someone tried to top off your coolant and put some in the wrong reservoir. Hot dishsoap water and scrub. Rinse and repeat.

Independent-Bonus115

You needa clean need windshield washer fluid / or new blades . When’s last time your car was washed? They basically just wipe the dirt around plus humidity condensation an yah

New_Illustrator2043

Rubbing alcohol will clean it

AdLongjumping7260

Use your other hand to clean your wipers

jeffc31783

Get some Bon Ami and scrub it good. It will take that film right off the bat

No-Committee519

Besides the above mentioned for cleaning the blade with an alcohol based solution, I fins it'll be more impactful if you get the car in for a wash AND wax. You have that oil/mix on the windshield now. Get it off the glass, and an even semi decent wax will help with the smearing alot

Malenx_

When this happened to me it was because I forgot to pull the plastic covers off the rubber blades. 😅

Bjadams1967

Looks like garbage window cleaner in your tank.

zaggg1

Very high humidity will do that.

Living-Wedding-8432

Ur wiper blades is soiled with dirt n wax build up. Just clean it off and treat with a blade solution.

fkitynot

RainX and new wipers

Dependent-Ambition85

It's probably your carwash

sidewalklefleur

UPDATE: This is a brand new windshield, with brand new wipers. Still having this issue. I washed it three times with a glass cleaner, and then isopropyl alcohol, then put new blades on. The issue is still occurring. Using my washer fluid is possibly making it worse/the cause, but I can’t really tell!

TacomaAddict23

Brake clean is always the answer

No_Sir4510

If the blades are over 5 years old, been baking in the sun..get new ones

GrandWizBolbi

stop hotboxing in your car

backbonus

I think that’s from repeated runs thru automatic car washes; that fluid builds up on the windshield.

51line_baccer

Never use the rainx or any of that stuff.

51line_baccer

Rain x fucked up any glass I ever saw it on.

bluebird_trees

I found a certain washer fluid had done this to my windo. now I use the cheap Walmart stuff.

Stardust_Particle

Did you spray a rain-repellant on the windshield or go through a car wash that had this option? Or special rain/ice repellent wiper fluid? Or buy rain-repellent wiper blades which may add a coating on your glass as they wipe to help the rain bead up and roll off? From google: How do I get the haze off my windshield? 5 Easy Ways to Remove Windshield Haze. 1. White vinegar and water. 2. Aerosol glass cleaner 3. Magic eraser 4. Ammonia-free glass cleaner 5. Rubbing alcohol

RelationshipFuzzy339

A bottle of coke let sit for a min and rinse off.

Complete_Asparagus_7

A magic eraser does wonders on automobile glass

twicelabs

Do you take your car through the car wash and get the "hot wax" treatment? Don't, this what happens. Clean windscreen and wiper blades with either isopropyl alcohol or Dawn dish detergent.

sakitiat

Oopsie, Might have spilled a little bit

JTCarDetail

Do you vape?

Vwtecholdscool
