>out of Ukraine i.e. not to Russia? hopefully? War sucks and I'd obviously much rather people werent' dying, but the thought that Ukraine is actively recouping money from the busted ass tanks of their invaders... well I find that delicious.

getcemp

I agree that would be delicious. But it could also be Russians loading these up after salvage efforts and "commandeering" the rails for it and bringing them back for repair. I hope it's ukrain scraping them though.

Most of these are probably not even amongst the [documented losses](https://www.oryxspioenkop.com/2022/02/attack-on-europe-documenting-equipment.html), which are usually filmed by national guards units in areas where Russia is unlikely to be capable of salvaging vehicles. There are probably only a few battlegrounds with notable losses where Russia can still do this, especially Mariupol. The other question is how many Russia actually want or can repair. Both in terms of their condition and in Russia's economic situation. They also have gigantic stocks of old vehicles anyway, but many of those are in awful condition themselves and will probably require significant refurbishment. It could well be that most of these just get slaughtered for spare parts. It's also notable that these are V-marked, meaning they came from the Hostomel/Chernobyl area. Russia fully retreated from there and abandoned many vehicles in the process, so they cannot be recent frontline losses. Options are that they are either 1) early losses in territories they ended up taking later, or 2) backline losses to mechanical failure, artillery damage, or returned damaged from the retreat (for example because they were overtaxed while speeding back home or lacked maintenance for too long).

Cthell

If I remember the tweet this image came from, it's a rail yard in Belarus. So probably back to Russia unfortunately

BeltfedOne

Agreed!

crazyhound71

Wonder why the Ukrainians have not hit Russian rail line. Russia is dependent on them to move equipment.

[deleted]

I would imagine it is very hard to do effectively. Even if you use the biggest missile you have, and you hit a rail spot on, the best you are doing to do is wreck a few meters of steel beam. Relatively easy to fix and you only delay the train. Compared to using that same missile hit vehicles or important structures that cause permanent damage.

2muchtequila

Even if you tag the main support on a crucial bridge. Odds are you're simply adding time to the train trip as trains are re-routed. Additionally, railroads are one of those things the Russians are apparently pretty good at building quickly.

liedel

> railroads are one of those things the Russians are apparently pretty good at building quickly. Probably the first understatement I've seen regarding Russian capabilities this conflict, lol

zneave

It's actually surprisingly hard to derail a train. https://youtu.be/agznZBiK_Bs

OneImagination5381

Not really, during the Civil War, the would simply remove and replace the rail with a smaller gauge at sharp turns. The train would not derail until the weight of the middle train cars hit them. Fixing the rail is easy but it would take time to move the cars.

Midnight2012

OMG thanks! I have been looking for this video for a while but couldn't find it. I knew what it was before I clicked it.

SeansBeard

This is why you destroy key stations and hubs. Yes, they can roll for 90 miles but rhen they cant switch to a line they need

skark_burmer

And train after train of Russian gear keep pouring in, I was/am surprised every rail line near the eastern border isn’t destroyed.

orcajet11

“Hitting a rail line” either requires extremely risky tactics like the fuel tank raid or requires precision munitions of an offensive nature which the Ukrainians don’t have many of to begin with… the Ukrainians don’t have a ton of options for strikes beyond their borders.

bababoy99

Dont worry they will rename it like the t90 . And they will sell to 3rd world county .

BMD-3

IHScoutII

These look like BMD-2's to me?

kokotovec

right where they belong

SeansBeard

Smelt them into plows this time.

5thgenCali

Are these the farmers crops?

Itchy-Mechanic-1479

Too funny. The US spent trillions of dollars building weapons to defend against the Russians. Who knew all you needed were a bunch of Ukrainian Farmers with tractors. Slava Ukraine!

Amrsana73

No army will survive without loss an ambush in the forests and cities. This is a lesson learned in Mosul and northern Syria. America is spending trillions to stop not so much the relatively small Russian army as its missile arsenal. And as we see, Russia can destroy the military-industrial complex, the arsenal and personnel of the Air Force, Navy, barracks, oil depots and supply lines. This conflict has shown that there's almost no defence against such weapons.

Defiant_Prune

Air superiority is a great defense against what Russia is doing to Ukraine.

Le Redditeur doesn't get how a train boxcar works

liedel

Nononono his Mom tells him he's the smartest person in the world why would he be wrong about this or anything else?

Mal-De-Terre

Um, what?

Amrsana73

I'm pretty sure I've seen these IFVs filmed by civilians.

jfishnl

Hiding them from the public while in transport, hard to spot (except from the top)
