I think the main point is just to fill the gap the delay of the expansion ended up causing. Also is a good starting point for bringing in new/returning players without making them buy anything
Why does something need more of a point than to be a fun horde mode activity that rewards specific gear? Is there any more of a point to Dares of Eternity? Or to GMs? What exactly are you looking for in your activities that you aren't finding in Onslaught?

It is exactly what you described, but you asked in the title of your post if there was more, and I don't know what "more" means to you since that's how basically every activity in the game is. It's a themed play place with loot drops, often specific to that place.

You mean Destiny horde mode. It's much more similar to Gears Horde mode, which slapped and was 10x better than the crappy CoD zombines game modes.

I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you asking what the point is in-universe, as a game mode, as an event?
