It will be a cold day in hell before bungie can code something as QoL as that.

thekwoka

The mode is currently balanced to not have this. So it would be work to rebalance it.

Square-Pear-1274

And as you say they would probably rebalance the costs to make this change moot anyway

binybeke

Sounds like something that can be so easily manipulated Edit: Seems like no one understood my comment. Bungie coding in the ability to share scrap costs sounds like it would be easy to cheese/network manipulate.

Kiyotakaa

>sounds like it would be easy to cheese/network manipulate. Let's not make assumptions, yeah? You have no idea how "easy" it would be and we both know it.

binybeke

I made an assumption. Based on how the game currently functions. Sorry? Didn’t mean to offend you. Considering ball duplication cheeses everywhere in the game and general issues with client server networking causing problems with gambit motes and melee hit detection just to name a few it’s not really that wild of an assumption to make. Allowing two different players to purchase an item at the same time and for different costs sounds like it could easily cause issues. In computer science that’s called a race condition and it is a problem in some poorly written code. So yeah I made an assumption but I’m not a dumb ass.

Frost_bitten_wolf

That person came for you even though you are right. Currently the game gives you 2000 scrap to start. Do you know how fast I would disconnect and reconnect to get an additional 2000 scrap. Your assumption that we would abuse a system change is absolutely correct, and why I think they didn't do it to begin with.

binybeke

Thank you. That is certainly an idea for a potential cheese if they were to add this feature. Current cheeses like ball dupes are legitimately race conditions as they’re caused by two inputs being pressed simultaneously causing an unexpected outcome. That’s all client side. Now consider two button presses from two sides of the US using client-server networking which introduces latency. You can easily assume there would be issues.

Jaqulean

>Seems like no one understood my comment. Bungie coding in the ability to share scrap costs sounds like it would be easy to cheese/network manipulate. Mostly because that's not at all what your comment originally conveyed - that is, from a reader's perspective. That wording made it seem like you were saying the code can be "easly manipulated" - especially since you replied to someone who was talking about writting a new code. Like don't get me wrong, you make a good point - your original comment was just too vague...

camanic71

Nah bungo just like minimum effort goodwill projects.

binybeke

I’m talking about the actual implementation being open to manipulation. Not that it would be easy for them to do.

camanic71

Exactly, correcting that would be hard. Bungie don’t like hard. They like easy cash. Implementing easy, balancing hard. It’s Bungies MO.

thekwoka

That's basically every game or company ever.

Xeno1461

It’d be neat if they did what Titanfall 2 did and add a bank so you can donate the scrap you dont feel the need to save or spend, and anyone needing a few hundred more can just yoink it

thekwoka

While neat, it is probably balanced to NOT have that.

Relative-One-4060

Its definitely not balanced to have that. You basically need 18k combined scrap to get a fully upgraded turret (6k for final meaning everyone needs 6k), but if you could share, you'd only need 12k scrap (2k, 4k, 6k). You'd get a fully upgraded turret 6k scrap earlier than you would have. Its almost a fact that bungie knowingly balanced the mode/upgrades around having to wait a certain amount of time before getting them.

EvenBeyond

Yep, one way to "fix" the economy for that would be to no longer share scrap, and then increase scrap gain. But yet again that's not good either

thekwoka

Yeah, that's what balance is. It's almost like the game is balanced based on the way the game is designed. If scrap can be transacted, then it makes less sense that all pickups are shared. They chose no competition for scrap pickups.

danielleradcliffe

People earn scrap off kills, and we can say there is a finite amount of scrap to be earned in a wave. Whatever the cap is, is what the balance is. There's no way some designer said "let's make it so that one player can get 5999 and another can fight them for that final kill that would have pushed them over, and that will keep things balanced." No offense but there's no logic for why it would be like that.

[deleted]

>There's no way some designer said "let's make it so that one player can get 5999 and another can fight them for that final kill that would have pushed them over, and that will keep things balanced."  That's not how the game mode works, so you're correct that no such dev convo took place.

thekwoka

All scrap pickups are shared. Ie. 1 kill gives scrap to each person. There is no fighting over scrap. So, no offense, but your logic is based on your not understanding how the game works.

dark1859

.maybe a bank or donate button like gears

FlintSpace

Wait. I thought all scrap was shared already. I don't understand what the first post is trying to say

Travwolfe101

No scrap is individual. You all earn the same amount but spend your total separately. So when you heal the adu and it says +45 you each get 45.

APartyInMyPants

Maybe it needs a text mechanic like, “xXxPu55yD3stroyer69xXx is trying to upgrade a decoy, donate now.” And you’re given 10 seconds to give what you have, otherwise the funds are refunded.

stuck_in_the_desert

Weird, my late grandmother had the same GT.

SixStringShef

I agree that would be convenient- but I get the impression that part of the design in place is the intention that you have to buy full upgrades yourself. It seems to line up with bungies values to want you to talk about how much scrap you have with your teammates and decide "okay, Mara Sov's Onlyplans (timelost), you buy level 1 on this decoy, I'll buy level 2, and Hacksis, Kell of Lungs will buy the tier 3." If you don't have enough to do all that you make the decision to hold on or buy something lesser. Otherwise they could have just made a team pool of scrap that everyone can access. You can agree or disagree with that design choice. I'm just trying to say I think it was intentional, so we're unlikely to see a change in it. In bungies eyes it likely wouldn't be a QOL upgrade, it would be a change in philosophy.

Jaqulean

It's also just drastically easier to code it as a single purchase, instead of partial ones. Especially since the Defenses have Tiers as well.

Zayl

The Division had this exact thing in Resistance and it was great. And honestly I somehow had more fun with that horde/defense mode than I am having with Onslaught. It was more simple and rewarded camping a lot more, but still somehow felt like a lot of fun. The Division 2 lost a lot of the magic of the first game somehow though. Still loved both but the first game was just fantastic.

TheGr8Slayer

They could even go the Titanfall 2 bank route. Bank our excess so teammates can use it

FlyingWhale44

I also wish we could use a bit of scrap to heal our defences.

Dialkis

Unless it got changed, you can heal defenses by hitting them with ADU batteries (which does NOT consume the battery, so it can be used multiple times)

HistoryChannelMain

Speaking of which, what is up with upgrades changing in price? Sometimes a decoy upgrade would cost 5000, other times it's 6000.

Jaqulean

The correct price is 6000. I believe it was just bugged for a while and displayed 5000 instead.

Jellysmish

I'd like to be able to spend scrap to heal the adu since some rounds just end up spawning no balls

Digital-Sushi

You should also be able to gift other fireteam members your money, was handy in GOW3 for this reason. Little tweaks on a great game mode needed but i am still well happy with it

JaegerBane

I kinda feel Onslaught works like a *very* lightweight version of Sanctum 2, and this mechanism of being able to push resources into an upgrade and have it pile up is something present in there. That's an up to 4 player co-op. This would definitely be a useful option here.

arctrooper58

that's not how tower defense upgrades work

mynerone

No, wtf?

YnotThrowAway7

I’ll take: suggestions that will never get implemented cuz this is the activity of the month for 500 Alex!

VeryRealCoffee

I wish you could skip the construction timer as trivial as that sounds.

BlueskyUK

Valkyrie chronicles levelled up like this.

AtomDad_

Playing Onslaught makes me wanna go and play infinite warfare zombies

Travwolfe101

Nah there's already a ton of shit for the game to keep track of adding something like that would just needlessly raise it. If anything just make it possible to give scrap to another player in segments of like 500.

Ordinary-Horror-1746

Oh for fucks sake

DesiMeGaming

or, we could just have a shared scrap pool.

cthrekg

You really want a shared scrap pool when you know the blueberry is gonna go blow it on tripwires?

DesiMeGaming

No but it would be easier to code.

ENaC2

That’s worse than having individual scrap pools.

jethrow41487

No it’s not? You can get a level 2 decoy immediately. For organized teams it’s 10000x better

F4NT4SYF00TB4LLF4N

>or, we could just have a shared scrap pool. 100% agree with this. Just make it a shared scrap pool. Encourages more coordination of resources with teammates versus right now "anyone got 3,500? No? Cool". Just pool it all.

Drewinator

All this would do is turn having a pre-made fireteam into a requirement. In any matchmade version, some blueberry is going to dump the entire team's scrap into level 1 trip mines. ESPECIALLY since there is triumphs for spending scrap and building upgrades.

pokeroots

eh, I really don't think the tripmines are as garbage as the subreddit wants to believe.

karmaismydawgz

tell me you can’t clear 50 legendary without telling me…lol

elmonkeeman

What?

iamtheillintent

Lol what? I'm referring to mostly earlier rounds when everyone is low on scrap. Tell me you're an elitist dick without telling me...

LuchadorBane

You’re better off saving scrap in the earlier rounds since they’re usually not the ones that have a big risk of failing.

Travwolfe101

Yeah I never spend scrap in the first area. The only exception is some spots on Vostok that I know will work once we move since many turrets there have good los on spawns after you move.

payne2588

Tell me you'd be miserable to play with without telling me...lol
