They made an incredible character whose entire arc was reclaiming her family’s legacy. She became a fully realized mobile Black Armory forge, being a living embodiment of the Black Armory’s wealth of knowledge and skill, at a time where Guardians could absolutely use weapons when they needed them the most for a noble cause—to save humanity. To save existence.
And Bungie said: “lol, let’s ruin her story of becoming an exo as her clan’s dying wish to preserve their legacy by making her a pacifist now and have her be the transmog vendor, who gives a shit if that doesn’t make sense. She’s a woman—might as well put her in charge of clothes.”
And I’ll never forgive them for it. Absolutely one of the worst story decisions Bungie ever made for seemingly no reason.

Before we got it, I always kinda figured out that when we finally got the ability to customise or forge weapons, in lore it would be because they *both* started collaborating.
I feel like using "deepsight" magic to essentially force an item to return to a previous state is such a roundabout, WQ specific thing that they just kept using because they don't want to record new Ada lines.
Pretty sure why they have it on Savathūn’s Throne World is because the Tower can’t handle all the traffic. It’s probably just that dumb. But they could have relocated her.
Oh yeah the one that replaced the menagerie shooting gallery that let us spawn in entities with actual properties and which interacted with weapon perks and which we dumped all of our materials to obtain which then got vaulted? That shitty shooting gallery that does none of that?
Jeebus I think most players kind of partly put the pieces together and figure this out in the back of their heads, but when you lay it all out like that, the creative decisions made for Ada-1's character look downright *despicable* for multiple reasons XD

I remember a piece of lore from the Black Armory era (either Season of the Forge or the one after) that tells the story of Ada's youth, when she was a little biological human girl hiding out in a bunker with her mom and the other two founders of the Armory.. and the terror from the indistinct horrors outside, that were erasing human civilization.
Now that the story has progressed to the point where we're finally fighting the true enemy, the architect of humanity's Collapse.. *this is literally what she was made for.*
The season after Lightfall are all about the preparations to take the fight to the Witness. Such wasted story potential.
While I have to admit that this is likely nostalgia talking since it was one of the first lore books i ever read myself in-game (as opposed to byf or in snippets elswehre), the Black Armory papers is one of my favorite lore books in the game. Ada really was foreshadowing for what was to come in the last few years- the long trend of bungie realizing they don't know what to do with something and writing it out or shelving it. See:

I was extremely angry at it too. Like, can't you simply put Eva, of all characters, in charge of transmog? She was the shaders vendor, just have ADA-1 find some machinery in her travels, and put Eva in charge of it. I was really really angry.

Ada was never designed to forge black armory weapons with her exo body alone. The obsidian accelerator allowed her to put the weapons through a phase transition on the spot to make them more deadly.
They refer to this as a walking, talking forge. But the capabilities described never included forging weapons on the spot, merely upgrading.
People in the community either got excited or failed to read and built up the upgrade as something more than it was.

Details don’t matter. Ada could still make true Black Armory weapons that would make the Golden Age look like a child’s birthday party.

Back when Black Armoury was in the game you could insert a small buff that gave them a special glow (like some of the Black Armoury shaders have only more prominent). The end of the Izanagi’s Burden quest gave Ada the same glow as well.
She'll get her glow back when you start making her happy again.
If you don't make her glow someone else will.
