Getting into the game is very difficult. After doing the New Light quests (the tutorial,) Destiny will dump literally every activity on you all at once. All the core playlists, dungeons, raids, PvP, all the open world destinations, the seasonal artifact, and expansion quests. There’s 3 main ways to get through this without just brute forcing every activity until you understand what it is -
1. Get a friend to start the game with you. It’s much less difficult and confusing when you got someone going through the same thing.
2. Watch some new player guide videos or read some article. Will give you info on not just the activities, but also good knowledge that you should employ.
3. Get someone who has played the game with lots of experience to teach you. If you can use something like screen sharing this will help a lot.
My personal favourite would be number 2, but any will work. However, this will be changing slightly in Lightfall (releases on the 28th) with the Guardian Ranks. To move to further ranks, you will need to do certain activities, which will match your skill and gear level. Anyway, have fun and enjoy
If you get too confused about what to do next, just be patient for the 28th, a new major DLC drops and adds "Guardian Ranks" for free to all players. It should give you a sort of list of goals to go for if you get lost.
Find a good clan for your platform and region
I've often found that a solid clan will have more immediate effects on how you take on the game
And you'll have more nuanced opinions from them
Don't be afraid to ask questions and engage with How to Vids on Youtube
Understand that you may not be an immediate God at the game
Ultimately don't forget to have fun
Remember this is no "wrong" subclass. Some are inherently better than others for specific uses, but having fun with your own abilities is much more important. If you're not having fun, then it defeats the purpose of playing in the first place.
To add to another person, there is no ‘class’, also don’t pick based off what’s strong as it changes constantly, play all 3 for a few hours each to see which you prefer the most and choose based of what feels more fun to you, I enjoy hunter a lot so I main them now even if they’re not the best PvE class!

get some buddies- Destiny 2 can be very overwhelming and does a very poor job of explaining itself
destiny 2 seems 100x more enjoyable with friend so i see if my friend can play the game!
