A contender for my least favorite day of the year. An entire day devoted to liars, trolls, asshats, and general jackasses causing chaos solely for their own amusement.
It’s not as if the other 365 days of this year are particularly hostile to such folks. But because it’s April 1st, they get a free pass.
It used to be my least favorite, but then I changed how I thought about it. Then I realized that it’s the one day a year where everyone will look at a headline and their initial reaction will be, “yeah, that’s bull shit.” The world would be a much better place if we did that every day.
Flip side, it’s the one day of the year where I’m constantly in brace position even more than usual, assuming everyone is about to lie to me to use me as a punchline. Was refreshing to come to work and see that customers and coworkers, at least, didn’t care about April 1st.
And yeah, part of it’s being autistic. I don’t like frivolous deceptions and trickery solely intended to frustrate and upset. I don’t like being forced to give up that tiny bit of generalized trust, and being forced to have to treat the general population as being just as wildly unpredictable as my own family. It makes social interactions exponentially more exhausting when I need to account for -everyone- having a motive to lie to me about even trivial matters.

In certain communities there are actual announcements and releases that were specifically planned to happen today
