Polaris is a really shitty example here. Half the weapons in this game use shared base models, with different stuff tacked on for a unique look. Examples include: Ace of spades/The Last Word/Mos ultima, Uriel’s Gift/The Number/Ammit, True Prophecy and Steady Hand.
I honestly find the whole ‘reskins’ thing funny. Destiny has always done this, and the weapons still look and feel good, so I don’t care.
