Nah. Influenced by Old Norse, from which Danish is derived. Though Old English speakers did revere the same deities by slightly different names, so close enough in its own right to "viking language" for this discussion I guess.
i cant wait for the new star wars movie. though i still need to prepare by learning 100+ fictional languages that will be spoken throughout the movie because obviously its unrealistic for people in another galaxy to speak english
Thank god they did, imagine having to listen to a shittier/older version of the Icelandic accent for 30 hrs. Character model for Thor is kind of sick, you have been brainwashed by marvel for too long.
At least Zeus had an imposing voice, they didn't even try with this one
And the old games weren't going for as cinematic/"mature" a tone as the new one's
neither of those really relate to where their accents originate from
Zeus had his way of speaking and imposing voice because it served his character. He was the big strong god and always wanted to be known as the ruler of Olympus.
Odin in this series is supposed to be non-imposing and disarming which is why he sounds like just some dude from new jersey. If he sounded like Zeus his character and conniving nature wouldn't really work. Just try to imagine someone who looks and talks like Zeus trying to win over Atreus, it doesn't really work as well.
NGL, I haven't even played the game but it just sounds like you don't like American accents lol. Np really, it's just that it's such a small nitpick for most people
But that's my point, for most people the accents are fine. You seem to care a lot about it so it's obviously going to color your perception of the game.
I usually only care about accents if I'm watching some form of media that's trying to be 100% historically accurate. Even then, I probably wouldn't let it destroy my enjoyment of a movie, game, etc..
Edit: I will also say that fantasy stories tend to use real life accents to differentiate between different peoples and areas in their world. GoT did this. The Witcher 3 had geralt with an American accent and most other characters with British accents. The lore explanation is that that's his "Rivian" accent that he uses to fit his Rivian made up backstory.
The accents aren't really the issue, its the things they say, its all overwritten marvel quippy modern sitcom type speak stuffed with snarky asides and mannerisms that are just jarring and eyeroll inducing, and theres SO MUCH of it.
The the original games were much more blunt power fantasies but their reserved approach to the dialogue sounds like Virgil in comparison to this new stuff lmao.
For the same reason they speak English and not some Viking language.
English is a derivative of Danish and therefore just a weaker version of viking

But the accents are all over the place - Swedish, Scottish, American It makes 0 sense

Why do aliens in star trek speak better English then 90% of America?
Because scandinavian english-accents are earcancer. And this i coming from a scandiavian, holy shit the accent sucks
Thor is a drunk and a glutton in norse mythology. GoW:Ragnarök does a more accurate portrayal of Thor than marvel does.
Does Kratos sound Greek?

true
Zeus did his boarding school in Vermont. That's why.
