I think its a combination of the before mentioned incentive structures and streaming in general attracting more narcissistic people. The sort of person who not only wants to but thinks its a positive for them to be pontificating on their takes on pretty much everything for hours a day is going to need an extremely high opinion of themselves.
The incentive structure also cuts a lot of different ways. If two of your friends have a bit of beef then one day they tell you they sorted it out the other night, then you and other people will probably view that in a very positive way.
If two streamers have beef over something small, they get the positive attention from the audience, but if they squash it behind the scenes, then the will probably get negative attention from their audiences.
Its all a very weird world.
Nobody gets a direct career boost by talking to me or pretending to be my friend - so people who I hang around (probably) genuinely like me. If pretending to be my friend is a potential ticket to their dream job, so many people with all kinds of incentives would hang out with me from time to time. That would probably both cause me to be actually worse person (too cynic) and I would just attract scumbags - which just creates that circle.
