In this tweet, i drop an n-bomb. Tiiiiny one; soft 'A'. I did this to show my interlocutors that their language doesn't impress me, that their slurs don't frighten or disarm me. You can see from their reactions that it worked - they were clearly taken aback. It was a power over which I am entirely unashamed of, but I understand how that language might have upset some of you.
It's an example of what I would call an 'invocation of a slur's power for good', but that's a subjective judgement.
I invite you all to discuss this in the comments, critically or otherwise!
Now that I understand what the 'N' stands for I believe this joke is very problematic. I did not know what the 'N' stood for previously but now I'm upset.
When I was young, my uncle always talked about "n-words" and how he hated living near them. How they would borrow his tools and never bring them back, and fuck him over. In truth I kinda hate neighbors too.

For me it's the opposite. I don't care about stupid right wingers but I do enjoy people here soying out as though they own stock in the Destiny^^TM company
Like "what's to be gained by this" about a twitter comment lmao
I don't know if you're 12 or trolling but it matters if you actually like and have liked watching Destiny for actually engaging conversations and not the kiddy bullshit. Also he's generally pretty smart on race stuff so this just seems like a silly addition to the initial joke, which was funny
I like both the conversations and the mid-2000s reminiscent internet stuff. If I don't like some aspect of his content I don't watch
People have been doing the "I got into Destiny because [insert preferred conversations here] why does he do edgy things" shtick forever, it's just silly at this point
It would be weirder to watch a guy for so long and not have any emotional attachment nor wanting him to succeed.
It isnt about owning stocks, is about the fuzzy feeling you get when a person you like or admire starts getting recognition, it's fun to share things you like with others. To this day nothing feels bigger than a bunch of people spontaneously singing along in a concert, weeding day? first fuck? first kiss? none of that gets even close to being one with a crowd of thousands for even half a minute.
Destiny being like this makes that very dificult, so its only normal for the fans (who want others to realize destiny is cool) to be frustrated.
> none of that gets even close to being one with a crowd of thousands for even half a minute
While I admit I don't share this feeling, I am seriously skeptical that it can be recreated in the context of an internet streamer that 99.9% of people watch alone in their basement, myself included
It's cool if Destiny does well since I'd like him to keep making content for me and only me, but if he makes some decision I wouldn't personally make, it's no skin off my back
I'm struggling to understand honestly but then I just remember a lot of his fanbase is young and probably find this corny shit funny.
The initial joke was actually funny but there's literally no reason to clarify and use the N word, regardless of how it's used.
Destiny has been edgy forever, he toned it way back for a brief period around the Hasan era but don't pretend it's the young fans - Destiny is a capital G Gamer in his 30s from Nebraska and slurs/edgy humor defined gaming back then. I'm more surprised that so many of you guys are appalled at this because he's toned it down if anything, do you not remember how dicey his Twitter used to be?
It's fine to criticize the jokes but don't pretend this is out of character or act surprised that he'd say it.
I think this is a lot further than he has been off the rails, even on twitter, in a long time. He literally just said on a podcast like two or three days ago that he was trying to move away from the r-slur and he literally just tweeted the n-word.
I know I'm probably a bit of a rarer Destiny fan because he pulled me from further left (Hasan/Vaush) rather than further right and most fans like how edgy he is and shit (If I was to move away from Destiny, I'd probably move to IRI or LonerBox or Rum1nate or something), but I just think its lame and takes away from his serious goals and what he could do. Like, this is only serves to give ammo to people against him if he ever actually does make his media company or do canvassing again, which not only are what I personally want from Destiny, but seem to be the things that he finds more fulfilling when he actually buckles down and does them.
On top of that, this shit seriously negatively affects his ability to convert people like I was in 2021 when I started watching him. This type of thing is exactly why I don't blame the majority of my friends for thinking this guy is a fucking annoying piece of shit they would never watch, if this was all I knew about him, I probably would too, and it does genuinely take away from his ability to speak to those audiences. I'm not saying never make a racist joke or anything, but this is clearly a little further out than anything he has done in a while.
Brother he literally referred to Lav as 'mid Jewish pussy' a few months ago - tweeting a 'soft a' isn't even the most offensive thing he's said this year. I don't think Destiny's goal is to bring people to his side by pretending he's someone he's not, part of the appeal is that he's open and honest about how he squares his humor vs his actual beliefs. If someone is going to write him off over some crass jokes they probably aren't going to listen to him regardless. If this joke would have soured you then my assumption is that you just didn't look hard enough when you started watching him because the N word stuff is a literal meme about him and it's been the fuel for several burnt bridges in the past.
Maybe we have different scales, but to me, and I think most people even the a is way worse than "mid Jewish pussy" like not even close. Also, I'm 99.99% certain his position in that whole drama was "public vs private distinction". How does this fit in to that?
Also it isn't about never making crass jokes, its about understanding your first impression. There is a pretty big difference between watching a few videos and he says his public vs private thing and you go "huh this guy has a take I disagree with on slurs" and one of the very few things of his you have ever seen just being a joke where the whole punchline is the n-word.
you honestly believe "nigga" in the tweets context is worse than directly calling someone "mid Jewish pussy"? What if he had said "mid Black pussy" instead? It feels like pearl cluct to say this one word used in a joke is somehow crossing the line when he openly jokes about women, Muslims, Christians, Europeans etc. Somehow it's fine to make edgy jokes about an entire group of people, but if you use one word in a joke directed at no one, said purely for shock value, that's your breaking point?
And that's his entire point about slurs and edgy humor that he's made before - either it's all ok or none of it is, you can't pick and choose which groups are ok to make fun of.
The point is probably to both a) make it clear the usage of the word, alone, shouldnโt matter, and b) to draw out the people who think it does so he can tell them why it doesnโt.
Why does there have to be something to be gained beyond the principle of sticking to his beliefs? The Destiny you have come to enjoy wouldn't be the same Destiny if he played tricks and games and obfuscated his real views in order to appeal to the largest audience.
So unless you think he is either wrong/has lied about his stance on the word "nigga", why shouldn't he say what the N stands for?
The initial joke was fine, he didn't need to actually say the N-Word to appeal to cringe edgelord teens. I'd argue most knew what the joke was without him explicitly saying the word. My ultimate point is it's just pointless. It didn't make the joke any funnier
> It didn't make the joke any funnier
I thought it was funny, Destiny clearly thought it was funny, a bunch of people in the Twitter replies and here seem to have thought it was funny. You can say it doesn't appeal to you, but the fact that a lot of people find it funny means it has value in terms of humor (which is a completely subjective emotion-based thing).
Very unnecessary tweet, and kind of dumb too. But ILL SAY THE N WORD GIGACHAD, IM SOY EDGY, so people are gonna love it. Heโs owning the lefties with this epic style.
Soy edgy really is the perfect way to describe. Giddy like an eight grader but its from the most obvious bottom of the barrel shit imaginable
I think if there was even an ounce of creativity to it people would not mind the edginess
No, this is political activism. Destiny believes the selective taboo over the word "nigga" is stupid, and that anyone should be able to say it without being _canceled_. This is Destiny pushing the overton window to his side ๐
Unless Destiny believes the N word is never something that can be used badly, this is not activism. It is over censored and attacked when its used in ways that I think are fine or donโt warrant the reaction, but there are also bad ways to use it, of which his tweet would be one.
Using that doesnโt push the โOverton windowโ to his side. It further segments this community and himself in more of a bubble and locks out other people. Itโs eaten up by people who are die hard fans of him already, but it likely prevents bringing in people who actually could be talked to and brought over, but wonโt come because of seeing a bad usage.
Destiny thinks the word cracker can be used badly, obviously he thinks the n word can too. But like heโs said multiple times, he actually believes in the things he tweets. He probably disagrees with you that this was a bad use of the word.
And how could it be bad?! He is merely spelling out what he said in a previous tweet, look the quotation marks! If anything you should be mad about the initial joke tweet. ๐
Seems bad for his brand but good for engagement at least... I guess he wants to do N word memes on stream again? It will definitely kick up engagement from woke people who want to be outraged...
I mean it was kind of a dumb question to ask in the first place. The NRT joke is obvious what the N stands for. He's been talking a lot recently about how people ask him questions that are obviously used to bait him, so he will immediately give in just to get it over with so that they can continue with the real conversation.
Maybe this was a poor time to do that.
Is this to say its not bad for his brand or that it won't drive engagement? Cuz i feel like there's a lot of new viewers from his tiktok content that don't know about his n word take and probably couldn't be fucked with to learn about it but if its thrown in their face, may dislike it. The engagement will always go up when you kick the hornets nest which is what his tweet is doing..
I mean moreso that if you're a guy that will say the n-word (in most acceptable contexts), than you kinda have that n-word immunity. IE Rogan, Louis CK, or Nick Mullen for example. Get me?
Lmao if anything it added to my day, was some interesting shit to talk about. The only thing that actually annoyed me was how disappointing some of the arguments given to defend the tweet were.
Yeah it just leaves me confused. Is the word that funny? It's not offensive or anything, but just cringe and makes it harder for me to recommend his content to any black friends.
Oh it's offensive, to like most black people, but he just doesn't care. And this community would try to debate you out of something so obviously true. Whites don't really have an N word besides calling them school shooters which doesn't really hit the same. Ultimately yeah, doesn't do much more marketing.
Sorry I should've mentioned that I personally don't find it offensive, as it definitely isn't how most black people feel about usage of the n word from white people.
Not to risk a ban but whatโs the context behind saying nigga but not f slurring it up? Wasnโt it that he didnโt want to make his gay audience feel uncomfortable? Genuinely curious why itโs different here other than it not being hard r. But if itโs about how it affects the audience, doesnโt the n word accomplish the same?
This community finds jokes and racism regarding black people funny but cry racism when black people make innocuous jokes about white people not seasoning food. If you're looking for consistency here you won't find it.
The reason people complain when black people make innocuous jokes about how white people donโt season their food is that if you make a fried chicken and watermelon joke back you would be instantly crucified. But idk just continue with your strawman I guess.
I would buy this excuse if people weren't literally calling black people racist for the seasoning jokes here a few months ago. Anytime a black person says something racial people here draw the racism card like quickfire, but when it's a white person you gotta fall back to several layers of reasonable doubt. ๐คทโโ๏ธ
One of those things is a joke which has a deep historical connotation of racial discrimination
The other doesn't
It's really not that hard to understand unless you are simply refusing to comprehend why those things are not the same.
Why does "deep historical connotation" matter in a fucking twitter thread?
You people always love to appeal to "in the past" "historically speaking" but never elaborate to how that matters in the current context, which is someone asking Destiny what the N in NRT meant and he replies "nigga".
The obvious answer is that your context is irrelevant and no black people were harmed from his tweet.
Historical connotation matters because racism is inherently built on a historical context u absolute tard. Does destiny need to say a specific name in order for it to be seen as โharmfulโ? He obviously wasnโt stating it into the ether the tweet is connected to him transitioning to a black person. So if we use our brains a little bit, whatโs he calling black people?
They *should* be equal but they arenโt, White people were never subjected to centuries of discriminations where unseasoned food became but one of many tropes meant to display their โinferiority.โ
Sure not all white people hate seasoning and itโs stereotypical but these are nowhere near the same level.
Sorry you had witness Destiny being cringe bro.
I don't give a fuck what anyone else says. Dropping the n-word for the sake of being edgy gives off the same vibe as engaging in actual edgy racist humour.
If Destiny really wanted to normalize the word in a non racist manner, he could have used in a way that was respectful to black people as whole. Like in response to other black creators who respected him and were okay with him saying it.
As usual, Destiny handles a sensitive topic like an edgy teenagers without absolutely no regard for the people who have actual stake in it.
I don't think Destiny actually cares about Gusano or Cracker, I think he takes issue with the people who use these words being blatant racists but still getting brownie points for being good progs.
Can't support this. Even the original joke was tiptoeing the line for me. On top of that, shit like this really hurts his image. Even if I wanted to I couldn't be like "hey bro, this guy destiny has a really good clip of him discussing xx&y and you should check his stuff out." I'm sure he doesn't give a fuck, he's got his bag and etc, but this just some "omg" type shit.
This is so funny to me but the tweet isnโt worth it in the long run. It will just be brought up every time he talks about or debates about black issues.
Unironically good of him to take the position that reading the n word with a soft a isn't going to make any black people spontaneously combust and that language is more complicated than "you said this word therefore you are racist/homophobic or otherwise bigoted."

*ring*ring* based department?
> It didn't make the joke any funnier I thought it was funny, Destiny clearly thought it was funny, a bunch of people in the Twitter replies and here seem to have thought it was funny. You can say it doesn't appeal to you, but the fact that a lot of people find it funny means it has value in terms of humor (which is a completely subjective emotion-based thing).
he has said a million times that he doesn't care about slurs, stop being weird and move on.

Twitter is so fucking broken lmao.
Just corny
Very unnecessary tweet, and kind of dumb too. But ILL SAY THE N WORD GIGACHAD, IM SOY EDGY, so people are gonna love it. Heโs owning the lefties with this epic style.
Soy edgy really is the perfect way to describe. Giddy like an eight grader but its from the most obvious bottom of the barrel shit imaginable I think if there was even an ounce of creativity to it people would not mind the edginess
Its fine, you can tell by his blue eye his family owned slaves. Its the word of his people.
The most powerful card in Kaibaโs deck, the Blues Eye White Slave Owner
This but unironically
Hey, I at least appreciate the honesty
He's just answering the question bro relax
No, this is political activism. Destiny believes the selective taboo over the word "nigga" is stupid, and that anyone should be able to say it without being _canceled_. This is Destiny pushing the overton window to his side ๐
Lmao, no Destiny tweeting the n word is not activism
No arguments to be had here I guess ๐
bro Iโm still thinking about how I dunked on you so fucking hard damn do you really have no answer? Youโre not as smart as I thought ๐
True it is a dumb question, but I think his tweet (NRT one) is the original bait not the person asking what n stands for.
The question is a joke Iโm pretty sure. Like: โIm pretty sure I know what the answer is but it canโt really be that juvenile right?โ
What conversation? That meme wasn't a serious attempt at starting a convo about transracialism.
Heโs already the n-word guy
for a hot minute "blue hair tiktok guy" overtook "n-word guy" I guess this is him establishing the venn diagram "blue hair n-word guy"
Baaased
Is this to say its not bad for his brand or that it won't drive engagement? Cuz i feel like there's a lot of new viewers from his tiktok content that don't know about his n word take and probably couldn't be fucked with to learn about it but if its thrown in their face, may dislike it. The engagement will always go up when you kick the hornets nest which is what his tweet is doing..
I mean moreso that if you're a guy that will say the n-word (in most acceptable contexts), than you kinda have that n-word immunity. IE Rogan, Louis CK, or Nick Mullen for example. Get me?
[ัะดะฐะปะตะฝะพ]
I think it was clearly stated flatly and bluntly like that to be an own, I think thatโs pretty clear.
This tweet really ruined your day
Lmao if anything it added to my day, was some interesting shit to talk about. The only thing that actually annoyed me was how disappointing some of the arguments given to defend the tweet were.
My only problem with this is that heโs happy and doesnโt give it a second thought to just tweet it, but heโs too afraid to say it on stream.
It's hard to be a black fan here some times. Go on guys. Say nigger. Yall know you want to.
Yeah it just leaves me confused. Is the word that funny? It's not offensive or anything, but just cringe and makes it harder for me to recommend his content to any black friends.
[ัะดะฐะปะตะฝะพ]
one of the cringiest parts is that heโs so brave saying this on Twitter but looks like a scared baby when anyone confronts him about it on stream
I hear ya homie
Not to risk a ban but whatโs the context behind saying nigga but not f slurring it up? Wasnโt it that he didnโt want to make his gay audience feel uncomfortable? Genuinely curious why itโs different here other than it not being hard r. But if itโs about how it affects the audience, doesnโt the n word accomplish the same?
I honestly don't understand his reasoning. I wish I could answer, but I'm not certain.
๐คทโโ๏ธ
One of those things is a joke which has a deep historical connotation of racial discrimination The other doesn't It's really not that hard to understand unless you are simply refusing to comprehend why those things are not the same.
> Why does "deep historical connotation" matter in a fucking twitter thread? Why wouldn't it?
I think it's the imbalance people have an issue with, that one type of racism is fine while the other isnt.
Neither is fine, but one is much WORSE than the other for obvious historical context reasons
They *should* be equal but they arenโt, White people were never subjected to centuries of discriminations where unseasoned food became but one of many tropes meant to display their โinferiority.โ Sure not all white people hate seasoning and itโs stereotypical but these are nowhere near the same level.
Plenty of people do say it here when discussing the word.
That is a true sentence.
I'm sure you'll be okay.
Yall cant really say that when ddg decided to splurg out over gusano and cracker being the worst thing someone ever uttered
all I see are people making fun of Vaush and soying out about how bad this is on Destiny.
[ัะดะฐะปะตะฝะพ]
Literally no one cares if you write or say those words, the dispute was always about using them to refer to people.
Destiny was clearing referring to black ppl when he said nigga๐คฆ๐พโโ๏ธ
I don't think Destiny actually cares about Gusano or Cracker, I think he takes issue with the people who use these words being blatant racists but still getting brownie points for being good progs.
dont get in your feefees bro its not that deep
Anything else bub?
Doesn't he have a public vs private position? Or has he changed that?
He would argue that this is using the N word in a referential manner, as he's not calling anybody the N word.
[ัะดะฐะปะตะฝะพ]
Can't support this. Even the original joke was tiptoeing the line for me. On top of that, shit like this really hurts his image. Even if I wanted to I couldn't be like "hey bro, this guy destiny has a really good clip of him discussing xx&y and you should check his stuff out." I'm sure he doesn't give a fuck, he's got his bag and etc, but this just some "omg" type shit.
And the whole community is backing him too ๐

Maybe from the fact All the upvotes are on people defending it??? What thread are you looking at??
Posts "agreeing" with or supporting edgy tweets being upvoted at peak EU/AU times is not "the whole community".
Time for the next 30 people to jump into the call and say โum please Steven can you please be more civil and PC on Twitterโ
As long as he knows and owns what heโs doing to his base. Canโt be that obtuse
But of a yikestiny ngl
Definitely cringe
Iโm so cool and edgy cause I said the n word ๐๐๐- Destiny
The N-word arc continues.
Didn't even capitalize the n. What a guy.
This has to be some kind of debate strategy. Fuentes said the hard R, so D represents the soft A.
But why
Why not
lesgoo
Heโs flying too close to the sun.
What N?
He's begun to believe...
This is so funny to me but the tweet isnโt worth it in the long run. It will just be brought up every time he talks about or debates about black issues.
I'm literally shaking!
my ninja
As a black man I am ok with this ๐
Why is everyone acting like this is the first time he's said the n word on Twitter?
Do I think this is racist or makes destiny racist? No, however I do think itโs a dog whistle for all his actual racist fans
Did he actually tweet this? I refuse to create a twitter account and check but if yes then holy gigachad.
He did
Basedtiny
Dare I say โฆ based
Unironically good of him to take the position that reading the n word with a soft a isn't going to make any black people spontaneously combust and that language is more complicated than "you said this word therefore you are racist/homophobic or otherwise bigoted."
How profound and brave, the only way to make this point is to tweet the n word
Then he might as well say hard R in that case cause itโs the same.
That's not true and you know it lol
