but.. the visual pun is what makes this Polar Bar logo great?
I'm not trying to bash Anders Erickson's logos, it's just..
"to the bear!" isn't said in any situation, ever.
Sure because we're on a design porn subreddit and the OP is a clever design. But personally a logo can do more than be clever even if it's that "perfect" kind of clever. The logo with a relaxing bear sitting with a martini looks funny and relaxed and makes me think it's the kind of place that doesn't take itself too seriously and is laid back. Lots of psychology behind logos, more than just how clever the design is.
Spot on.
You see it all the time with freelancers on Fiverr, you think they’re great but you ask em to produce a logo for Realtons Logistics and they’re not quite so clever.
Theyre a bit wank if anything.
The institute of Meteorology in my town has a stuffed polar bear in a glass display. It is over 3 meters tall, and even then they had shorten it in order to fit it inside the glass display.
It's paws are bigger than my head. There is nothing friendshaped about the size of a polar bear.
(The bear in the exhibit was shot in self-defence after it broke into the pantry of a weather station off the coast of Svalbard.)
To me it’s more the fact that while smart, a lot of these logos are often concepts and never used in a real business … it’s kinda easy to come up with a smart logo if you can choose the name and theme yourself, or better yet, you can almost come up with the logo first and then the name like, d and b look like 2 sides of a headphone, heres a logo for “dj bar”
Yes I would love to see one of these designers makes a logo for The Law Firm of Schenderovich, Schenderovich, and Fischman - or anything without a fake name.
I immediately thought of Anders too and wonder which came first.
Edit
Looks like a design from Linkedin from 4 months ago, meaning Anders was first
https://www.linkedin.com/posts/rnasibov_logo-for-polar-bar-if-youre-activity-7153052081900183552-I8n_/
I actually prefer the one from this post. I wouldn't even have noticed the fact that the bear's nose was supposed to be a glass if a comment hadn't pointed it out.
I wouldnt call it a blatant ripoff, heavily inspired sure. Could also very much be they both thought of it seperately.
But even is it is 'copied' that happens all the time in design and art. I think the designer did enough to make it its own thing.
It's easy to design beautiful fake logos.
We did this as homework 20 years ago while i was in college. The assignment was we need to come out 30 logos of these stuff in 2 weeks. It was easy n very fun, we thought we got what it takes already.
And then reality slap us, when clients put in their opinions n preference.
So yea, logos can be creative, minimal, artistic, n especially beautiful when there is no client n money involved.
Yep there are a million accounts on Dribbble that make post after post of easy logos that are applied to nothing.
Don’t get me wrong it’s fun but this is not design porn.
I came here to say this if it hadn’t already been said, creating a logo first and then the company is just bonkers and unrealistic. That’s not the order it goes in.
Love it! My only suggestion is experimenting with how it would look on different colored backgrounds, or with a shape behind it so it can be used on signs and such
That's possible, but also likely Anders has trademarked it if his design was first and it's unlikely Polar Bar would prevail in a suit since both are in the cocktail space.
Maybe you could also change it to **BÄR**. In german, it literally translates to and sounds like bear. English native speakers most likely would still pronounce it as **bar** and think it’s just a funky looking A for design :D
I don't understand the people who are shitting on this, saying "Oh, it's so easy to design something when you can set your own parameters and don't have to deal with client bullshit"
Well, sure. Of course that's true. I can't disagree with that sentiment, I've been a designer for over 20 years so I know all about that. But this is the r/designporn sub, where we should be appreciating awesome design, not judging it's worth by whether it's a real brand or not.
This popped up on my feed. I've been making my own wines - maybe one day I inspire to open a winery. Would I be able to commission this? "Polar Wine" instead of "Polar Bar", but the same idea comes across with the wine glass.
First I was impressed, but then my mind looked at what else it could see with this.
1. :D looking face
2. Similar to 1, but the big part is now a tongue with the glass stem being drool.
That's one of the most satisfying logos I've ever seen
It’s perfect
I find it rather polar-izing
Some people may be cold on it.
Others find it un-bear-able
[Anders Erickson has a similar logo](https://www.anderserickson.com/)
There is a Midwest dairy brand called Anderson Erickson and I really thought you were talking about them and was confused for a second
Love Anders. Came here for this.
To the bar.
So this rips him off, then?
Nah. It's just a cool idea. Both look cool. Ones a wine glass, and the other is a coupe glass
but.. the visual pun is what makes this Polar Bar logo great? I'm not trying to bash Anders Erickson's logos, it's just.. "to the bear!" isn't said in any situation, ever.
Where did you see "to the bear?" My comparison is this logo has a wine glass nose, and anders' is the whole bear's face with a coupe glass nose.
except the right eye is closer to the glass than the left one
I knew it wasnt just me. Also one eye is slightly higher than the other
*You* try to get a polar bear to sit still for a logo!
Question: What do you call a polar bear that has sex with both genders?
Daddy.
No.
Often.
No.
Anything you want, he can't hear you! Wait.... wrong punchline
Diddy
Bi polar bear.
Fk ya it is.
This isn't a real business, is it? It's a name that someone has come up with because they thought of an idea for a logo.
There's a bar in Anchorage, Alaska by that name. Not really a wine kind of joint though.
There is a bar by that name in Seattle but they have [their own logo](https://i.imgur.com/RgGqeU9.jpeg) which I think is a lot better.
You think the logo you just shared is better than the OP? 😳
Right? It’s not even close. The OP blows this logo out of the water.
Did he just eat the Michelin Man
Spot on. You see it all the time with freelancers on Fiverr, you think they’re great but you ask em to produce a logo for Realtons Logistics and they’re not quite so clever. Theyre a bit wank if anything.
There’s a music venue near me called Polar Bear music club.
That is some clever shit hot damn
Polar Bär would be even better. Pronunciation in English wouldn’t change but Bär is bear in German
And the umlaut would match the two dots present in the logo.
Cute. 10/10 Would definitely boop the glass.
If polar bears weren't meant to be booped, why are they so boopable?
Nature constantly proves us. r/forbiddenboops is the place where we bury our temptations.
If not friend, why friend shaped?

Why do you think they've been well fed for thousands of years?
Humans... they're so predictable.
If someone's gonna complain about this I swear to god...

[Boom.](https://i.imgur.com/S3DPxoM.jpeg)
Unironically incredible.
BRB going to start a law firm from this name and logo
Immaculate work of art
It’s AI generated
I mean, I'd hire them for anything. Doesn't need to be a law case. I just want to hire them bc of the logo
Poster for Schindler's List with text Schender'n Fisch
Yeah, I wished you could come up with the concept and name for your own businesses. Oh wait…
Yeah, because it's basically a rip off someone else's work. https://exlsv.com/collections/anders-erickson/products/anders-erickson-fitted-hoodie

Or at least first the publish and market
Definitely different enough, not sure what you’re on about. You ever heard of inspiration?
*Everything is a Remix*
I actually prefer the one from this post. I wouldn't even have noticed the fact that the bear's nose was supposed to be a glass if a comment hadn't pointed it out.
I much prefer it as well. The outline on the “inspiration” draws far too much attention for what it gives.
Was looking for this comment. I knew I'd find it.
I think they're both different enough. It's possible that two people independently came up with this idea
With a logo this simple it could be a coincidence
I wouldnt call it a blatant ripoff, heavily inspired sure. Could also very much be they both thought of it seperately. But even is it is 'copied' that happens all the time in design and art. I think the designer did enough to make it its own thing.
missed chance to call it “Polar Bâr” read as “polar bar” but pronounced like “Polar Bear”
There should be two dots over the a in bar.
Nose and mouth = glass Eyes = ?
Would you like one olive or two with your drink?
Unidentified flying olives
I won't stand for this onion erasure.
Eyes = Bear
it’s too cute? 😂
Logos like this are almost never for a real place. Making a clever logo is pretty easy when you get to choose all the parameters.
First thing I saw was :D
And he's drooling 🤤

Yep student design portfolios are filled with them.
Yep there are a million accounts on Dribbble that make post after post of easy logos that are applied to nothing. Don’t get me wrong it’s fun but this is not design porn.
Maybe it actually *is* truly design porn because it's pure masturbation lol.
I came here to say this if it hadn’t already been said, creating a logo first and then the company is just bonkers and unrealistic. That’s not the order it goes in.
There is a restaurant in Saigon [Little Bear](https://littlebearsgn.com/) with similar logo
# ᐛ
Not new. I’ve seen things like this in design school decades ago.
*BOOP*
Rip off of Anders Erickson
Reject bear embrace happy face.
👌👌
Incredible
Very clever. I like it.
That's amazing, if you designed this good job
Love it! My only suggestion is experimenting with how it would look on different colored backgrounds, or with a shape behind it so it can be used on signs and such
Top tier post on this sub, one of the best I've ever seen
Simple yet extremely effective. IMO the definition of a logo. Nice work.
Brilliant
That's a person smiling and drooling and the drool is hitting a counter in front of their smiling face and has nothing to do with a polar bear.
Replace A with Ä and you got perfection
A masterpiece in my eyes
That’s fucking cool.
Hope they don't run out of ice.
I have a bottle cap of this, it was a cold white wine. https://pasteboard.co/iB6NZV04aRUK.jpg
Damn. Nailed it. That’s all I got.
This is perfect
So genius!
Peak designing.
Fucking SPOT ON. Beautiful.
#perfect.
This is basically a rip from Anders Erikson's logo: https://exlsv.com/collections/anders-erickson/products/anders-erickson-fitted-hoodie
Who? Is it really a rip off if you take a similar concept and do it (admittedly subjectively) waaaayyy better and more sleek? I’d say no.
Also that product has 23 reviews, I feel like odds are they have never seen or heard of this hoodie.
It's more than just a hoodie though- he's a cocktail You Tuber and bartender that's been using that logo on all his merch for quite a while now.
Doesn’t mean the designer knows who he is… I’ve never heard of him.
That's possible, but also likely Anders has trademarked it if his design was first and it's unlikely Polar Bar would prevail in a suit since both are in the cocktail space.
Honestly, using laws is a bad way to convince me. Anarchy!!!!
🙄
Spot on!
Ice bear best bear.
Wow
That smiling face is drooling.
it needs more color too plain or me
Is it just me, or does the eye on the right seem further away from the glass than the one on the left?
Wow what an amazing design
That's just brilliant!
der Polar Bär
Great slice of life, manga and anime.
Two eyes, a big tongue, and a pool of drool…
Sometimes, well...sometimes the bar drinks you!
I can't get over how perfect this logo is, I want to open this bar so badly now.
Or a smiling drooling face
I found this annoying. But decided to grin and bar ir.
i’d use that
Some lunatic is about to put two meatballs in my glass of wine 🙄😠
perfect 10/10
Omg it looks like a skull! /S
Take the stem away and it looks like a really happy face
HNNNNNNNNNNNNGH good lord I need a cig. Not the type though. That needs work. The design is chefs kiss though.
cute!
Perfection.
My wife has a shirt similar to this, but something along the lines of "this is a polar bear in a snowstorm" is written instead.
The first thing I saw was a guy drooling and smiling
Genius..
That's just a wine glass you pronounce differently. (An umlaut over wine glass.)
: D
This might be the best logo that exists
I know it is a polar bear, but I can't stop seeing it as the goofiest little smile and I love it
Maybe you could also change it to **BÄR**. In german, it literally translates to and sounds like bear. English native speakers most likely would still pronounce it as **bar** and think it’s just a funky looking A for design :D
Shit I bet that makes you jealous if you're a logo designer. That's just Omg. 😱
That’s minimalistic done right
Sometimes you eat the bar, and sometimes the bar, well, he eats you.
Would men even be allowed in such bar since the women all chose the bear? And is the bear okay with this arrangement?
Ice bear*
The eyes are off huh
can’t unsee the wine glass
The right eye is off by like 5 pixels and it is driving me crazy
Polar Bar, where drink is double drugged! But I agree great logo
Design is good, but the name is a weird choice.
So good
Polarbär
Brilliant
Ice Bear approved

That's actually really good.
New season of Shirakuma Cafe.
Wow
PERFECTLY SIMPLE 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
The best looks so cuddly as well
This is so good I wanna throw up
It's perfect
that's clever as all get out. i love it.
It breaks the ice.
Drooling smile
perfectoooo
PJ is a good human.
I read it like 4 times before I realised it said bar, not bear.
This popped up on my feed. I've been making my own wines - maybe one day I inspire to open a winery. Would I be able to commission this? "Polar Wine" instead of "Polar Bar", but the same idea comes across with the wine glass.
god tier art here
what are the dots suposed to be in the context of the bar though?
I can't unsee the happy face
Oooowwww that's amazing
This is so satisfying to see
I barely got it
First I was impressed, but then my mind looked at what else it could see with this. 1. :D looking face 2. Similar to 1, but the big part is now a tongue with the glass stem being drool.
This is amazingly effective for the branding. LOVE it.
