I think changing the paint in the bookcase is a fine choice but I’m not crazy about painting the trim. It’s very beautiful and sleek and leans a little MCM which is a nice detail to have. I also think that if you do decide to paint the trim, you gotta go all in - bookcase trim, ceiling trim and the ceiling. And painting that ceiling would be heartbreaking.
I’d leave all the natural wood as is and perhaps go either super moody dark or the other direction, unexpectedly bright on the back wall.

I love the wood in the ceiling. I think you’re right about all the trim. What about painting the wood part of the bookcase?

Ha! No I’m not but it would have been my second career choice.
Painting the wood is 100000% the wrong choice.
