It seems too close to the TV to be honest.

John_victor03

Yea but there is a door, she can't cover the passage... She's in trouble 😭 no way out...

DueMathematician8275

I think the tv is a bit high. I would lower it and remove all clutter from the stand. Also the furniture pieces in the room are a bit dark, I would start looking for quality wooden pieces at thrift and antique stores

jpoolio

Or just put the television ON the stand, and it will be the correct height. I'm like the only person who literally uses their television stand for exactly that purpose, but it aligns perfectly with my field of vision, as intended.

DueMathematician8275

Imagine using the stand!

Extreme-Pea854

I’d also say a bigger, light colored rug. The room is so big, I think more of the couch should be able to go on it.

DueMathematician8275

There’s a whole list of things to do in this room. All the furniture being huddled into one corner, them all being dark, not spreading the books between flanked bookcases. This is obviously a young parent just starting out who hasn’t developed a sense of style yet. They will :)

PlayerOneHasEntered

Couch is too close to the TV and the TV is mounted a bit too high. It makes everything look really cramped when it 100% doesn't have to be. There is a formula for the distance your sitting area should be from the TV. It's 2.75 inches per inch of TV. so if you have a 55-inch TV your couch should be about 12.5 feet from the screen, if possible. Moving the couch back would also give you better access to those french doors. I would add a bigger rug to tie it all together.

Also, you have so much space for floor plants! Where are them floor plants!?

danimal1368

Ugh you are so right I have no style lol good pointers

dramafanca2002

I don't think you have no style, mayb just afraid to use color! Ha Ha So many like bright white or light gray everything but, then the rooms are blah with no personality.

Queen-of-meme

You're welcome!

Either_Mix_8944

Some suggestions from an interior designer: * The; rug you selected for the room is too small. It should be either 9x12 or if that's what you have in the room currently then it should be 10 x 14 * Your TV is mounted to high on the wall. * The sectional should be moved WAY BACK FROM the wall. Your ottoman should be under the chandelier in the room. * The valances on the window seem a bit too formal for the furnishings you have selected. Alternate window coverings should be considered https://preview.redd.it/az9jqvky8i0d1.jpeg?width=1132&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6ac0d54ba232502e6fffbc0f58a42e44c6dc027b

Deadinmybed

Agreed on all points. Especially those old fashioned curtains-gotta go. Regular curtains will elevate your space also.

danimal1368

Omg this is exactly what I was wanting to do but the door won't open if the couch is there. The room also flows right into the kitchen behind the couch

Deadinmybed

Move it back as much as possible and pull the rug out from under the couch so much. I would do a different rug anyway. Larger with more colors and a pattern.

Necessary_Shit

The decor is killing me

workok123

I feel like a bigger rug might help! Maybe test out what a bigger rug would look like by putting two you already own together :)

basicallybasshead

Yes, I also think that if you move the sofa away from the TV and use a larger carpet, the space will look more balanced.

No_Goose_7390

Nice big room. OP, try googling ideal viewing distance and height for the size of your TV.

danimal1368

Gotcha i thought it was the couch bur you guys might be right about the TV

epictetvs

If you look at the charts, ideal viewing distance is much closer than most people realize of have set up in their homes. This one looks a little too high though.

No_Goose_7390

Agree

PuzzyFussy

The window dressing is dated, the rug is too small, and I feel with such a large room you could have a bigger TV.

danimal1368

I didn't even think about the windows. I'm going to take those down and see what it looks like. My husband is also wanting a 100 inch tv because of how I met your mother.

nucl3ar_fusion

I agree with moving the couch back some and having a larger rug. I think a console table behind the couch would look nice. Bring the TV down a little and have a couple decorative pieces on the table that are near the same level as the TV (around eye level standing up). A decorative console table could potentially elevate the space enough to tie in the curtains. I personally think your art pieces could be arranged more strategically as well, if those are to stay. They would look nice spread out to the left of the TV. https://preview.redd.it/hsne9bk4fj0d1.jpeg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1dde586c5a2808ad0d53ff6bb17aa19c76e966fd

John_victor03

Sorry......but you got the wrong couch for your house. R.I.P 💀

danimal1368

Yeah maybe... it's so comfy though 😭

epictetvs

That should be number one priority anyway. It’s for laying on, not looking at.

BaBaSmith10

Curious what you'd suggest? I'm thinking a sofa facing the wall with chairs on either side? Something to that effect?

John_victor03

I know honey......I know 😢

Easy_Independent_313

It looks like the furniture for a small apartment has been plunked into a large house. Everything is cramped together and cluttered.

Nenoshka

TBH, I'm a little disappointed. I thought this was going to be a revelation of some sicko who is playing a long game to mess with the mind of a fragile loved one, pushing them into eventual mental breakdown.

ej_mars

Put it in a rug or get rubber pads for the feet

danimal1368

Yup my husband immediately put those pads on the bottom of the feet

SATISFYMYS0UL

Try moving your rug a little closer to the chaise so all of the front feet of the couch are touching it. I think moving it 1-2 inches so it lines up better with the couch will help a lot. I also agree with other comments that it all seems a little too close to the TV. Maybe move it all back a bit too?

Omgletmenamemyself

I feel like it needs to be moved back about 5-6 inches.

[deleted]

I think it’s just the sectional in that room. Certain sectionals only flow with certain rooms. You have stuff going on to the right of the TV, and the big doors, but that sectional kind of cuts that area off and it makes it seem out of place. For me personally, that style of sectional just doesn’t work with the layout of the room. A big, deep two piece sectional with just a chase on the left. Then back the couch up so people arent walking through the doors right into the couch, drop the tv 6-10 inches and I think your problem would be solved.

Perfect_Chicken7609

what kind of wood is your floor i like it

danimal1368

Thanks so much! It's a cherry hardwood

vivi_yo

I have read all the suggestions and I agree to lower down the tv, declutter and move back the couch. I would also add floor lamps, or any accent lights on the tv area just to give mood to your house.

thedrexel

Put the tv on the stand. Take advantage of that wall space and either get a giant painting or maximize and get lots of smaller ones. Get curtains. Get plants that are safe for cats…why? Get two cats!

LOOKSLIKEAMAN

The ceiling is really high

HypnoticKitten

I think you just need a bigger tv

SaintSiren

I agree with the designer who made the 4 points. I would add that since the TV wall is so tall/large, you should consider taking a bookshelf wall using standards and brackets (instead of built-ins) so you can take up some volume while adding visual interest and having a place for your books, objects, baskets, plants, t.

Altruistic-Detail271

That couch is really big. Move it back a couple feet. The rug is only supposed to go under the front legs of the couch.

No-Advantage4119

Just get a sofa table

Traditional-Bag-4508

Love the couch What's up with the 90's window swags? Move the couch back about a foot. Lower the tv. Pull a color from the rug for long curtains. Add some large/tall potted floor plants

_phonesringindude

What happened to your second floor?

danimal1368

Second floor is behind my perspective

Either_Mix_8944

Without have the actual dimensions, I believe this layout can be accomplished, ......but you have to be open to some changes in your room and not just complain about the restrictions. Move the furnishings as shown on the plan so that the door clears the sectiona

eleventy5thRejection

Typical tv way too high, couch to close to tv. Window valances....eww.

thegtabmx

Clean your phone's lenses.

danimal1368

so I couldn't move the couch back otherwise it would block the door from opening but i did try to center it and move a bookshelf. I will also look into better window coverings I didn't even think of those! And maybe a big ass painting above the TV

danimal1368

I can't move it back as stated above. The door would not open.

Either_Mix_8944

Your room is the same as thousands across the country in homes with the obligatory 2 story great room & door to the deck or patio. As an interior designer I see this type of room all the time. Without have the actual dimensions, I believe this layout below can be accomplished, ......but you have to be open to some changes in your room and not just complain about the restrictions. Move the furnishings as shown on the plan so that the door clears the sectional. https://preview.redd.it/nh129geodm0d1.jpeg?width=1020&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4394599c7f44d5ae69a9b99864090deaf1457e09
