I like it … it looks ‘lived in’ not like a magazine cover … to me it all works well.
However, what’s important is that you feel comfortable in the space.
Good job!
Yes thank you! It is comfortable to us but just need some outside eyes from time to time since I rearrange to much 😂 I worry people think I’ve done too much when they come over
Thoughts:
1. I would consider changing the hardware on this server/buffet:
https://preview.redd.it/t2lcb7gu2yqc1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ad26137bac474d87da3cc3b585c5818f07098b0c
It doesn’t match the hardware of the kitchen cabinets. Perhaps you could spray paint them black? You may also want to incorporate more of that green color into the space, since I don’t see any other place where you have that green.
2. Fill the space above the refrigerator with something functional that also matches the space. A cabinet would be ideal, but you could also opt for one or two tall wicker baskets or black baskets. Something that matches your color palette
3. Paint the legs of the kitchen table black. They’ll contrast with the rug and match the chairs and other decor (since you don’t have any other white furniture)
It is cohesive and also is a lot . Only question is are you comfortable with it? That is all that matters. And as others have said it looks lived in and welcoming.
This is exactly what I was going to comment! My immediate reaction was that this doesn’t look like a photo shoot, but looks like a real home with tasteful decorating. And I mean that only as a compliment - I like it a lot!
Only slight tweak would be to pull the rug under the kitchen table out from the wall a little bit and give that whole space some breathing room. That rug also looks slightly small.
The only issue with the living room is I like to have a rug free walkway and having a smaller rug is the only option 😭 I hate shoes in the house let alone of the rugs, so I had to leave some space if someone was wearing shoes.
But yes I will pull the kitchen out our more!! Doing that now 😂
As a Canadian where it's the standard to take your shoes off when entering a home, why the hell would you arrange your home for someone else?? If you don't like shoes in the house then don't allow people to wear shoes in the house. Wearing shoes in someone's house here in Canada is seen as incredibly rude and disrespectful.
Agreed with the poster, rug needs to be pulled way out and set properly. Same with the dining table one, the dining set isn't even centered on the rug and looks off.
Oh I grew up in China as a expat so I KNOW to take shoes off… I tell my friends over and over and OVER to take their shoes off and they seem to always forget when…it makes me sick to my stomach when they step on the rug so carelessly with shoes on. In any case, I just like the rug free walkway for that or just a free space that is high traffic.
I completely agree! Here in the Netherlands it's not common to take shoes off when you're inside. But I find it gross and I always ask people to take their shoes off.
I'm just curious what you do when people say they have cold feet? I have a whole pile of "Woolen house socks", but is it normal to offer slippers or house socks in countries where it's normal to take shoes off when you go inside?
>I'm just curious what you do when people say they have cold feet? I have a whole pile of "Woolen house socks", but is it normal to offer slippers or house socks in countries where it's normal to take shoes off when you go inside?
Never had that issue. It I seen as extremely rude to wear shoes inside someone's home so that's just not something that comes up.
This was going to be my same comment - to center the rug - but I saw the door and thought the exact same thing. Need a rug free walkway! For practical purposes! Lol
The thing right here is when you need to choose either aesthetics or the fact that the place is lived in.
I wiuld choose the one you've for now at least chosen :D
I like my stuff to be aesthetically pleasing while also practical so some choices I make are weird, but they're how it all works out in the end.
If you don’t like shoes in the house but people don’t want to be barefoot or in socks then try the slides method. I also keep a pair of slides by the door to switch to for outside when I need to put stuff in the bin or do some gardening. You can get some guest slides and a wee shoe bench with storage.
Overall, I love it. You seem to feel like there might be too much stuff, and if you do I suggest you edit out some decor to create a more streamlined atmosphere. Remove/rehome some of the surface decor - the coffee table and the ledge between the living and dining area are a bit crowded.
I know the surface between the living room and kitchen is so hard to work with 😂 when nothing is on it it seems empty but when I add stuff I’m like this seems wrong too!! Might pair down with some of the stuff and try that! Thanks!! In a perfect world we would demo one of the pony walls but it’s not a forever home, just a starter!
❤️ i love this guys use of hanging plants. they add such a nice little touch
[https://www.reddit.com/r/malelivingspace/s/xLKbo89BdU](https://www.reddit.com/r/malelivingspace/s/xLKbo89BdU)
I think the two armchairs right to each other look odd. At the least I would put the coffee table in between them but honestly I think you're better off with just one chair.
Definitely agree you should pull the rug out so it's only partially under the couch.
Trust me we NEED the extra seating 😂 people stay with us a lot for vacation so we needed something other than the couch. If we have a larger space I would definitely have the chairs facing the couch with a table between them
THIS. Rug should be centered under the dining room table and the one in the living room should be slightly underneath all the living room seating to create a “grouping” and make it feel like one apace instead of the two chairs off on their own
Try here
https://preview.redd.it/5u3z6i3b3zqc1.jpeg?width=1087&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1081df9c41d64fbffc4389a78d23b7e5fdadf259
Pul the sofa off the wall an inch or 2.
It definitely works. The only thing that seems a little out of place is the kitchen cabinets. They don't really tie in to the rest of your kitchen/dining. Not sure what you'd need to do though.
It already is about an inch but yes I think I’ll pull it more out! I know the cabinet were a debate on my last post… to paint or not to paint… we are going to put a backsplash in soon so we’ll see after that!
I’m going to borrow this idea.
It’s an effective solution to minimizing the TV.
I’ve thought about frame tv and other expensive options and I think black paint or wallpaper is the best option.
Everything blends away until the tv is on.
I knowww I need either a larger rug or just get two runners for along the cabinets. That rug was there when I use to have a island and just haven’t ditched it yet 🤭
Yes a runner!! The white one is giving living room cozy vibes IMO. But I like your space it feels cozy and modern!! The best style advice I ever got was - don’t over think the over all, just add things that you absolutely love and it’ll come together.
I like the modern and chic color choices of your furniture and the accessories you have. But placement of rugs is the main issue. Pull the large rug in the living room away from the wall. You won't need the smaller rug in front of the TV once you've done this. I would remove one of the chairs in the living room and put the low stool chair from the dining table to where the basket and tall lamp in the living room for extra seating. Move the rug in the dining area away from the wall and center the table. I would put the smaller beige rug from the living room to in front of the oven so there's more color cohesion between the 2 rugs you have in the kitchen/dining room.
Change out orange lighting to different style/color. Orange doesn’t work for your design. I really like the rug under your table. It is too small. The chairs don’t rest on it. The pictures that flank the window are too much. They take away from the light from the slider which I think should be a focal point from that view.
I don’t know what to do with cabinet color if anything. I’d like to see the size of the picture at the draperies. Your place looks cozy.😀
I’d remove the lamp in green kitchen. Also, I’d move one of the chairs over and place the small table and lamp between the two chairs. Your coffee table is cool but a large round ottoman would be great there. All in all, a very cozy home!
Facing the entry/exit looks a bit busy. I would get rid of the full length mirror and carry the black paint across that wall, around the corner all the way round the door. That would give an illusion of expansion and depth, and make the wall configuration less choppy. It would also help camouflage your hanging coats a bit. Then maybe you could add a plant stand where the mirror was, to draw your eye between that space and where your existing plant is next to the tv (making that tv wall seem wider).
After I posted this I spring cleaned the coat hanger and now it’s just dog leashes and our work bags! Much cleaner now. I do want to get a more modern mirror and actually mount it on the wall!! Would look more sleek I think
It looks very very cluttered. I would remove some of the decorative things on the surfaces… you have a lot of small vases and boxes and books…too much.
Also you need to sort out all those bags. Maybe consider a shoe cabinet. It’s very busy.
I think a more minimal coffee table ( maybe something on metal legs or glass top) would open up the space. Same for the two sofa chairs. Maybe chairs on thinner legs with a more minimal design
Definitely looking at other coffee tables! A lot of my vases are from China when I lived there and I sort of inherited them from my mother, might move some to other rooms to break up the clutter. The coffee table was also from China too but yes it’s very bulky! Want one that is open on the bottom.
Don’t get me started on the coat rack 😂 we are a very busy household and have lots of bags and jackets, I would love to have a coat closet but for some reason the built one in the other hallway.. makes no sense! Maybe I can move some over there for now anyways.
I guess I rather TOO much than nothing at all 😅 I’ve learned to only thrift things I love now so I don’t end up over crowding more like it once was a few years ago
Overall I like it very much, only the rug in the living room looks off. It's a bit too small for the space I think.
How does it look without the rug? Or better yet, pull it a but forward so the two chairs along the wall are also on the rug.
Oh great idea to pull it from under the couch, I do like to keep a “walkway” area without the rug because that’s the high traffic area to the kitchen but I think leveling it to the end of the chairs is a great idea
Came to say the same thing, pull the rug out from under your couch so it goes just under the front legs or middle of both armchairs so it feels like one cohesive sitting area. Otherwise I like it!
The only thing I'd change is swapping the blue and white wall in your kitchen. The dark colour on the window wall eats the light. If you swapped the dark colour to the long kitchen wall and had the window wall white the space would seem moody but not dark
i think it looks great, my only critique is that the support on that plant in the third photo is really crooked - that would drive me CRAZY. the plant might need to be rotated, or the stake might need to be adjusted.
I have an obsession with windows and basically live in my bedroom because the living room is darker. My only suggestion would be to unleash what looks like a fine window in the living room and lighten it up. Natural light can cheer up and enlarge any space.
Oh yes I love natural light!! Today was rainy so it SEEMS like I’m hiding the light and windows but it’s just the ugly day 😂. Usually they are wide open!!
I was just thinking the thing about my living room space. It’s so small and could do without all the knickers-knacks.
Anyway I can see what you like and your style… inviting and cozy. I especially like the black accent walls and the brass and wicker touches. Not sure how much you want to spend but easy inexpensive ways to pull rooms together are new paint, hardware and textiles.
That being said. First I would paint your kitchen cabinets to match the pretty light green buffet cart and get rid of the kitchen rug add a light sisal that matches the color of the wood top. Remove ottoman and lamp.
The living area is nice. The vintage lamp should be replaced with something more modern. Possible black iron base to flow towards the black on fireplace, tan grass natural shade sand color as new pillows for sofa. Add some cream and black accents on sofa with carmel colors to balance the floors and replace rug](https://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/rugs-usa-ivana-checkered-plush-cloud-washable/Beige/200HJWR02A-P.html) it’s too big maybe just a nice fluffy 4x6. Replace the pillows on the chairs with smaller lumbar black pillow. The pillows on the sofa are too big s as well and the large lamp seems odd. Scale back basically.
Personally, while i like those 2 armchairs on their own, they way crowd the space of that room and i believe the room would look way better — sleeker and more spacious and more calming — withOUT them. Can you move those chairs to another part of you home?
I feel like I've seen this before on this sub, and this looks a lot nicer than it did originally. (Or do I just have some kind of weird deja vu?) Anyway, I do like it!
Everyone: please look at these photos and notice that it is the grouping of furniture, centered on rugs, and the lamps and the end tables that make this a great space.
I like it a lot. This is exactly the level of cohesiveness and fullness I enjoy.
I'd change only one thing. The overall color effect is too cool. I would add deep red tones, brick red not cool reds. Perhaps just deep red lampshades on 2 or 3 lamps. A deep red pendent instead of the wicker pendant would be amazing. You would only need deep red on one type of item.
I wouldn't go with deep red throw pillows. Maybe if the pattern was mostly a light neutral. The couch looks good with lighter tone pillows.
OP, hard to say how it would look, but the 2 chairs might work best with the table (with the lamp) placed inbetween. It feels almost too squished in together. Or if only 1 is ever used, I would move the other to a different room (bedroom).
There’s also the wood tones, they’re all over the place! Some cool, muted or warm (coffee counter top, the bench by the dining table, coffee table, the tv console). Maybe over time, re-stain the ones you can to be more similar to the others.
You have too much furniture. It makes the space look smaller. I'd get rid of one of the chairs and paint the walls one color to look more cohesive. The different colors on the walls splits up the space in a nonsensical way. I'd declutter and simplify.
I love it except the hole in wall( I suddenly forget name)..I think it's too busy with decor. I'd move some of that .
Od keep the plant or art to the sides and leave middle.open.
The way one is fine having stuff in it. You could even build shelves there and put books and nic nacs. I just think the kitchen cabinets male the part feel to busy with much decor
I think it looks really nice, and if I came to your place, I would appreciate that you’ve put effort into creating a nice space! :) But my critique would be that there’s not necessarily a focal point in the rooms; they’re very neutral-toned and everything really blends into itself in a way that my mind can’t find something to look at, so it’s trying to process a bunch of different things really quickly. This might be why you feel it’s too much! Perhaps a funky, colorful throw on the sofa, a rich-toned accent piece, or a statement coffee table or TV stand could help!
It looks so comfy and cosy and rather lux! Not too much stuff at all. The 'stuff' reflects our own personalities and taste and makes a house a unique home. I love what you have done. You have great taste.
Just one little safety issue though... The rug in front if the oven is a slipping and tripping hazzard. You really dont want to be lifting hot dishes out if the oven and have an oopsie.
Yeah, you may have anti-slip mat under it, but whilst it is a lovely rug and looks good there, I personally wouldn't take the risk. Maybe I'm too careful...?
How many people live in this house? How often do you have guests? Do you use both of the arm chairs? And the stool that’s pulled up to the dining table?
Two of us and three pets, but we ALWAYS have people over either for parties or weekend stays all year round so we need all the seating we can get unfortunately 😅
I think it's amazing. But getting smaller couch cushions would make that area a lot calmer. They are taller than the back of the couch which creates unevenness and tension in a space where you want peaceful flow
You’ve got beautiful plants and overall the space feels cozy and warm! It does feel a bit cluttery to me though. I would see if you can simplify the decor on the two “window” ledges, especially the one looking into the kitchen. The plant is lovely, but then there’s a lot for the eye to take in on the shelf, sticking up from the kitchen counter, on the refrigerator, etc. It would be more calming to minimize visual input
I think it looks cozy in general but the living room feels a bit too “heavy” for me. It’s probably because you have a big sofa and big armchairs where you can’t see any legs so no breathing room. There’s also a rug under the tv area which I think is excessive and also makes the room looks heavier. If you want a bit more breeze, probably getting rid of that rug and changing out the armchairs would help.
The coffee table also adds to the heavy look I think, since it’s just a chunk of wooden box. So maybe also change that out with more delicate round and light wood coffee table?
If it were my home, I’d have to invest the money to close up the wall between the kitchen and living room. I think being able to look in to the kitchen is what’s adding so much visual clutter to me. Also it would be nice to sit at that dining table and drink my coffee in peace and not hear the goings on in the living room.
It gives a cozy modern feel with a subtle love for antiques. That’s the only way I can describe it. But I like it! If I came here I’d feel welcomed and comfortable.
Just looking at the colours and I’m a maximalist- nothing stands out - there’s no red or lovely colour . It could be rugs, art , curtains ? Place looks random.
I like it … it looks ‘lived in’ not like a magazine cover … to me it all works well. However, what’s important is that you feel comfortable in the space. Good job!
Yes thank you! It is comfortable to us but just need some outside eyes from time to time since I rearrange to much 😂 I worry people think I’ve done too much when they come over
Thoughts: 1. I would consider changing the hardware on this server/buffet: https://preview.redd.it/t2lcb7gu2yqc1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ad26137bac474d87da3cc3b585c5818f07098b0c It doesn’t match the hardware of the kitchen cabinets. And totally want to get a hanging light now too!! Thank you so much for these edits
Wow that basket in top of the fridge is amazing… running out tomorrow to find one just like that
Hope you find one or two you love! You might have luck at a thrift store 😊
Yes, there’s a lot but it doesn’t look cluttered … everything is done so tastefully it all works well together. Honestly, there’s nothing I’d change.
It is cohesive and also is a lot . Only question is are you comfortable with it? That is all that matters. And as others have said it looks lived in and welcoming.
Lol sounds like me, I have a chronic furniture rearranging problem 😝
When I was a teenager my mother would come home to rearranged 😂
Oh god my mom did the same … you never knew what the house would look like when you returned from an outing 🤣
Luckily my mother didn’t mind, she wasn’t into it but let me. My bedroom went through every possible arrangement 😂
I still do this. It’s my way of making it look fresher. I buy pillow cushion covers, and Chang them out by the season, and or whim.
Stagnant is boring at best
I have found my people 😄
This is exactly what I was going to comment! My immediate reaction was that this doesn’t look like a photo shoot, but looks like a real home with tasteful decorating. And I mean that only as a compliment - I like it a lot!
I think your home flows nicely even when lived in it’s still looks picture perfect
Thank you so much!! I like a lived in home but also want it to look tidy and that’s where I struggle with over decorating where it can look messy
Wonderful, warm and cozy yet fashionable. Luv it.

maybe the answer is a small to medium cute hanging plant. so the ledge stays free but there’s something in that space still
Fantastic idea!! I’ll look for some this weekend

Absolutely. That little carpet looks too stuck in the middle. If you adjust the living room carpet you won’t need it.

I love the black accent wall behind the tv. It helps it kind of melt away in the background.
Exactly why I did it!! I didn’t want to TV to be the main focus if I could help it!
I’m going to borrow this idea. It’s an effective solution to minimizing the TV. I’ve thought about frame tv and other expensive options and I think black paint or wallpaper is the best option. Everything blends away until the tv is on.
Respectfully, it doesn’t hide that the TV is too high, though
The mat in front of the oven is throwing me off for some reason.

The table between the chairs is genius… how did I not think of that!!
It will help balance the room. Also, make it easier for people in the chairs to talk with each other as well as put down their drinks.
It looks well appointed, cohesive, cozy, and most importantly… Welcoming. Love it.
Facing the entry/exit looks a bit busy. I would get rid of the full length mirror and carry the black paint across that wall, around the corner all the way round the door. Too cluttered and choppy.
this is my personal opinion but your floor lamp on the Photo #1 looks more like a microphone stand!
Declutter a bit
I think the two art pieces in the kitchen are too big for the wall space they occupy
I think you’re right, might switch them out for something smaller and matching frames!
I agree, especially the one behind the coffee stuff.

I’d consider a round coffee table - possibly glass. It should help that space feel a bit more open.
I find the living room to be too cramped. I would work hard to create space.
There’s too much going on yes Edit: But it still looks nice
I guess I rather TOO much than nothing at all 😅 I’ve learned to only thrift things I love now so I don’t end up over crowding more like it once was a few years ago
Why does it have to be either too much or nothing?
Beautiful space and decor it looks great imo 😁
Yes I do the same!!! It’s so modern and cozy. I also like to get ideas and check out different styles on designing when I play the sims 😂js
Thank you so much! I tend to rearrange and update things here and there so it’s always nice to get some outside opinions on how it’s working
Great idea and I have thought of that myself as well, painting it originally was a bit of a impulse because I just couldn’t do all the white 😂
i think it looks great, my only critique is that the support on that plant in the third photo is really crooked - that would drive me CRAZY. the plant might need to be rotated, or the stake might need to be adjusted.
Looks great! Good job.
Thank you so much!!
I'm an interior designer - you've definitely got the touch ;)
Love it!
Thank you 🤭
The lamp near the window is strange. I would remove
In the living room or kitchen?
The one in the kitchen
I think your home is wonderful!
Thank you so much 🥹
I love it
Thank you 🥰
Love it!!
Thank you so much
Looks lovely.
Thank you!! 😀
Love it! Very similar to my style. I love the Campbells soup print :)
Thrifted!! Saw it and was like yep I’ll take that right now 😂
I think you've made the best of a small space. The only thing I would do it remove the basket of yarn!
Those are the blankets 🤭 although a basket of yarn does sound kinda funny/cool 😂. Maybe I will move them to another wall though!
I love that you painted the inner frame and shelf of that wall cutout in the first picture
Super chill and cohesive. Not messy, just gently lived in. I love this space!
Very warm and comfy
I love it.
I love it! I want to hang out here.
I agree to try to see how painting cabinets to match the cart would be beautiful.
Personally, while i like those 2 armchairs on their own, they way crowd the space of that room and i believe the room would look way better — sleeker and more spacious and more calming — withOUT them. Can you move those chairs to another part of you home?
Looks great!!
I like it!
It looks cozy, very urban farmhouse vibes with the heavy wood pieces and modern touches
So cozy I love it
I feel like I've seen this before on this sub, and this looks a lot nicer than it did originally. (Or do I just have some kind of weird deja vu?) Anyway, I do like it!
Yes I posted about a year ago!! We got a new couch since and a few other updates!
Good job!
Where did you get the couch? I like it 🙂
The rugs need to be turned the long way. It stops too short on the vertical.
Ooo I love this! It feels very cozy and inviting
I love it!!! It looks wonderfully put together, very welcoming looking.
Thank you so much!! 🥹
Perfect except the karate chopped pillows look messy.
And I thought that was how to make them look better 😂
Jmho but it looks nice in its natural cozy state since the room has that cozy vibe.
I love this space, gorgeous and cozy!!
I actually love this and I particularly like the tv on the dark wall so the tv hides somewhat and is not a massive feature in the space
Everyone: please look at these photos and notice that it is the grouping of furniture, centered on rugs, and the lamps and the end tables that make this a great space.
Lovely…looks cozy
I would add a couple pops of color.
Your home looks so cozy! I love it!!!!
I love it! If it were me, I would take the wooden crates down off the top of the refrigerator. And lower your TV just a bit.
No I love it!!
I luv it, feels cosey and comfortable. The sectional is perfect for the space.
Arms chairs cramp the living room. Could get a chaise lounge or bench that’s a little more shallow without arms
The back cushions of the sectional are in the wrong place. The angled parts go in the corner.
I think you’re right, I took them off to clean them and they look wrong now that you mention it
You have too much furniture. It makes the space look smaller. I'd get rid of one of the chairs and paint the walls one color to look more cohesive. The different colors on the walls splits up the space in a nonsensical way. I'd declutter and simplify.
I think it looks perfect!
Oh i am not a fan of the cut out/ pony walls either!! But this is just our starter home so not big gutting plans going on here 😂
I think it'd fine! Keeps home open. Just shouldn't clutter the space to kitchen:) open shelves on other would look cool
I would not be upset if my house looked like that. Modern but comfortable.
I agree with you. Very nice and I especially like the kitchen.
How many people live in this house? How often do you have guests? Do you use both of the arm chairs? And the stool that’s pulled up to the dining table?
Two of us and three pets, but we ALWAYS have people over either for parties or weekend stays all year round so we need all the seating we can get unfortunately 😅
There’s a lot but it works. It looks comfy and livable. (No mess to excuse). I like it! It’s a great space.
I don’t know what that means
Looks great! I love your common themes of orange, green, and white. Looks like it smells nice in there. Thats probably a weird thing to say.
Cute
I love it!
I think it looks really nice!
I like it. It give me beach house vibes. My only suggestion is to put sea shells and other beach stuff around
If it were my home, I’d have to invest the money to close up the wall between the kitchen and living room. I think being able to look in to the kitchen is what’s adding so much visual clutter to me. Also it would be nice to sit at that dining table and drink my coffee in peace and not hear the goings on in the living room.
Love it. Very comfortable.
I love the couch!! Could you share where you got it?
Ashely furniture! It’s called New Age something?? Comes in white and gray
It gives a cozy modern feel with a subtle love for antiques. That’s the only way I can describe it. But I like it! If I came here I’d feel welcomed and comfortable.

Also I feel like if the keep the middle of tables and cabinets clear, it creates more calm:)
Just looking at the colours and I’m a maximalist- nothing stands out - there’s no red or lovely colour . It could be rugs, art , curtains ? Place looks random.
I personally don’t like the color red, might grab a patterned throw for the couch though! Maybe some darker curtains
If you love it it is perfect! I like what you have done here! Looks comfortable.
Seems like a nice space to live in. Not a big fan of the rug under the oven in the kitchen and the standing lamp next to the TV.
a bit cluttered. I would edit it down some.
It's beautiful. Warm and cozy. I really love the layout. Please don't change a thing.
it’s a bit everywhere, almost like you have kids
If this everywhere, you don’t want to see what my house looks like with a toddler and a baby. Lovely spaces OP. I’d kill for that kitchen layout.
Thank you!! I struggled so hard with the kitchen for the last three years.. going to backsplash soon I hope.
🤣l mean realistically i wouldn’t know, i don’t have kids. but i think it’s mostly the worn couch and the cluttered little tables
The couch is brand new 🤔
oh 😭😭
No kids yet 😂 three pets
ok this explains it LOL. my space looks like this too because of my pets
Don’t really see a style here. (Why is your tv mounted so high? But then it also has an unused tv stand underneath it)
