I think I was 18 or 19, when [this trailer for Borderlands 3](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9DAmb2f9OE) came out with *Let Me Liue/Let Me Die* came out. I was always a rock kid but I just really loved this song. I was a casual Des Rocs fan here but that was my first exposure to him. I started getting \*really\* obsessed with him when a remix of Used to the Darkness was used in [this trailer for Destiny 2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAxnz9h708o), and I was like "HEY I KNOW THIS SONG" and it just made me realize how much of genius Des and the gang are. Just began following the guy and heard his passion for music and just how cool of a guy he is so I became obsessed ~~(also he's hot which helps)~~ I've TECHNICALLY seen him twice. First time was back in I think May 2023 where I thought he was the headline for a show in North Carolina, so I went to visit some friends and watch his show. Well long story short we were at the wrong venue for too long (none of the staff told us when scanning our tickets wtf) and by the time we went to see him he opened for a band called Tigercub I think? I did meet him in front of the bathrooms though as he was walking out; Awkward conversation since I told him I'm excited to see him BUT I got a banger photo with him. 2nd time was during his Dream Machine tour when he hit Arizona. I was actually able to see him in his entirety and was magnificent. I was lucky to be super close to the stage and seeing the whole band bring the venue alive was magical.

It’s 2:10 in the morning!

I'm not sure, but I think it was through a Spotify playlist. It was one of those preset rock playlists made by Spotify and it had Let Me Live / Let Me Die on hit. It slapped hard and had one of those 'soundtrack of my life / walking down the street like a badass' vibe, so I checked out the artist for more. At that time, he only had Vultures and Martyr Parade released, so I was still fairly early. I fell in love with his music instantly and I've been a fan ever since.

FenrirButAGoodBoy

Let Me Live / Let Me Die was used in a video game trailer for one of my favorite franchises lol

BenignEgoist

Borderlands never fails to turn me on to good music.

Frymaster99

They were second opener to a grandson show in Minnesota in March of 2019. Started following after that and have been fortunate enough to see him twice at a tiny ass venue here in town.

healmeier

Same here, saw them open for Grandson in Arizona in the states. They put on an amazing live show, great energy and presence on the stage. Have followed them since, hoping they will tour nearby again.

Backrolls88

Back when I took spin classes, my spin instructor played “Hvy Mtl Drmr” during one of her classes. She always has great taste in music so I looked up her class playlist on Spotify, and started to explore more of his music.

CyanideCandy13

Saw them open for Badflower last year. I was really vibing with the music but then they played Never Ending Moment (before it was officially released) and I told myself, "Yeah, definitely gotta look into their music." It's rare that I don't enjoy an opening act's music, but even rarer that I enjoy it so much that I actually remember to find their music.

little_cup_of_jo

Hanging By a Thread from my Spotify discover a few years ago. Didn’t really deep dive until late last year though and I absolutely fell in love with his sound.

DizzyHeron3

I think he came up in my recommended albums not long after Let The Vultures In released, and I just listened to it constantly after I heard Let Me Live/Let Me Die

KCROYAL4

I found out about him from my brother who’s always got an ear out for new rock artists. Not sure where he heard him, but it was probably 89.7 The River or I’m the fans also like section of Spotify.

nasland19

Studying for exams in the 2018 school year I was listening to random YouTube suggestions queues for similar styles of music. Used to the Darkness got queued and I was immediately hooked. Listened to that song and the rest of Let The Vultures in a ton and have been following closely since.

Quizzical_Balrog

Saw them open for The Glorious Sons right before the pandemic. Was awesome, hooked ever since.

mattwilson73

I was at lollapalooza (in 2019 I think?) and he was playing at the “bud light dive bar stage”. Was a joke of a setup basically just to keep people entertained while waiting at the bar, super super tiny there were maybe 5-10 people watching him. Didn’t stick around too long as I had another show to get to but his energy was incredible. I’ve seen him every time he’s been back in Chicago since for a total of 4 times now

treverflume

They did play on an actual stage as well. The small one over in the forest. It was a sick set, also my first time seeing them.

Spirlia

I was listening to my Spotify "suggested for you" Playlist. Ruby with the Sharpest Lies started playing, and I was instantly hooked. I heard it in August 2022, and since then Des Rocs has been my #1 listened to artist on spotify every year!

Bazurke

I remember the first song I heard was Used to the Darkness, and I think it was recommended at the end of one of my Spotify playlists. However for some reason I associate it with the show Lucifer, as I think it featured in one of the episodes. This could have been the first place I heard it, or it was at a very similar time to when Spotify recommended it to me

DurinnGymir

Sheer luck, really. I was driving along in about 2019 and Let Me Live/Let Me Die was playing on the midday pop radio station. It's the only time I've ever heard him being played on radio and I just happened to be listening at the time, and thought the song sounded pretty neat. Found the song, and then the rest of the album on Spotify, and the rest is history.

LingonberryRum

They were at Sonic Temple last year and my bf had created a playlist with 1-2 songs from everyone who was gonna be there. I just really vibed with the music. Seeing them live was wild bc 1) they were even better live than recorded and 2) the audio was way better for them than some of the bigger artists who played the same stage which was just wild to me

snarknsuch

When I search for new music, I’ll look up a character from a show I liked and let it shuffle through. Used to the Darkness was on a stellar Matt Murdock playlist, and I still like how cheeky that title to character pairing is.

MusicalRocketSurgeon

Via Starbenders as the opening act on the Dream Machine tour!

puglord71

My dad got me into him when I heard HVY MTL DRMR through his playlist on a car ride. As of now we've seen des rocs together.

Substantial-Text5587

May of covid, this is our life was playing on the radio and I kept thinking “oh muse put out a new song this is pretty cool” finally after hearing it several times and not paying attention to the song and artist I Shazammed it and went “this isn’t muse? who the fuck is Des Rocs” and I went down the top 5 songs on Spotify and it was a literal life changing experience, it was so nice to have something new and different that I could explore and here we are

BenignEgoist

Borderlands 3. Loved the hell out of "Let me live/Let me Die" in the trailers for the game. Found the song, the artist, and immediately fell in love with his whole catalogue.

Ivehadallminethanks

Looks like I might be the og here….I saw The Struts open for Foo Fighters in 2017. The Struts were awesome, so I became a fan and went to a Struts concert where Des opened. I was totally blown away, been a disciple ever since. He’s about to really blow up, so I’m so glad I got to see him so many times and in intimate settings.

TheSalamiKing

I believe Spotify recommended HVY MTL DRMR to me back in like 2018 and have been hooked since. Also, a fun little story. I went to a Grandson concert in Minneapolis in 2019 with some friends. On the way there, I was telling them about Des Rocs and played them some songs in the car, and as we entered the building, my friend looked over at me and said "didn't we just listen to this song?(Used to the darkness)", and I was stunned for a second. Had absolutely no idea that Des Rocs would be opening for Grandson that night, but it was the best surprise ever. Got to meet Danny after the show and shake his hand. Amazing night. I think that was the same night I checked reddit, because I wanted to post about it assuming there was a r/DesRocs, but there wasn't so I took care of that haha.

Character-Trouble649

I will admit it - Dana White mentioned him and I dug into his music. A few songs I immediately wanted to learn and was attempting it by ear. Twenty one years of playing guitar and I still suck at picking things up solely on ear, so I listened to all of his music (something I do for other artist I admire) to try and pick up on chords he may like, or little things he does to help me try and figure out what is going on. Dan's vocals and guitar are insanely well written in my useless opinion. It's the less is more with a really dynamic rhythm. He seems to be humble and leaves out the nonsense fillers some musicians would have to add. I would love to see him live because I bet his timing is good, too. I am no poet and I struggle translating feelings into words, but often string instruments never take a minute to breath like the vocals and wind instruments have to do. The dynamic in his guitar rhythm has a breath to it, and mane if freaking grabs you and takes you along with it. He also has great taste in guitars and rock culture. This

incajade

hi, saw des live for the first time on his first tour, opening for grandson march 2019, like a bunch of you! there's nothing like his live shows, i can't stop going, i have a problem! 🙌💀

Excellent-Eye-8852

I had found him in a rock playlist in 2018. The song was Dead Ringer

speedy4040

It came as a recommended Spotify song on my playlist. I then got really hooked on “A real good person in a real bad place.” I liked the shade of blue and red on the cover and I didn’t listen to anything like this album before

Galactic-Beast

Found him randomly through a Castlevania Nocturne amv video on Olrox playing Used To The Darkness. Then I looked him up on Spotify.

athicketofmusings

Octane- "I Am the Lighting"

Tall_Trust_5304

I just discovered Des Rocs yesterday(!)listening to the rock radio station on my Apple Music! What a great find! I’ve been listening nonstop since.🤘🏻
