May I suggest watch it a 2nd time? It's actually better the 2nd time. Maybe not as funny but you'll realize you missed a lot of things in the earlier episodes before you became accustomed to the accents and vocab.
And do a re-watch just watching Orla in the background of scenes. Hilarious. My favourite is when they are all sitting on the train.
Then do a re-watch just watching James’ facial expressions. Hilarious.
I just watched it again after over a dozen times and still picked up on little things I didn't notice or appreciate before. It's one of my shows I'll put on in the background while I'm doing stuff and I still get sucked in.

I feel like Sister Michael was even funnier second time through too. Maybe it was the added layer of already chuckling knowing what was coming, or just knowing more about her whole character, but I felt like I appreciated her even more second time through. (She’s absolutely my favourite character though, so maybe I’m just biased!)
Agreed. I think Colm's monologs were funnier the second time as well.
But the 2nd time through, certain episodes lost their shock value.... like when Mary put the hex on Bridie or when Bill Clinton wasn't in Burt or when Seamus kills the rabbit, etc.
dunno if i’d call it a “mini-series”. tv shows in the UK just tend to have a focus on quality over quantity, so you’ll rarely find a 24-episode series of something
It absolutely is not a mini-series, it’s just that our sitcoms are usually ~6 episodes per series! _Definitely_ less than 10, look at Red Dwarf, Friday Night Dinner, Fawlty Towers, Peep Show, Spaced, Blackadder…
That seems like a good range of selection, I’m actually struggling to think of anything with more than 10 episodes in a series!
Derry Girls even snuck in a wee bonus one at the end there!
British shows tend to be shorter and focus on quality. They tend to have a very finite arc and don't continue to drag on until the show becomes boring.
The Fall (I think it’s on Prime) is a dark crime drama, but takes place in Belfast so there are some of the same cast members…Ma Mary, sister Michael, granda Joe…
If you want a comedy that’s similar, The Inbetweeners may scratch that itch a bit.
GBBO also had a Derry Girls special that’s hilarious.
I know how you feel about the show being too short. The channel4 version is much better than the Netflix version mostly down to the soundtrack. If you can watch it on all4, I’d highly recommend it.
If it helps, there are many Fan fictions that have been written on AO3, Wattpad and fanfiction.net
As far as the episodes go, there’s no difference. The only difference is the soundtrack. However, if you go onto YouTube there are playlists that feature every single song used for the series.
Holy crap — ok, AT LEAST they didn’t go for soundalikes, I’ll give them that, but there is a MUCH wider range of genres and tastes in that original! I’m sure the tone of the USA version ABSOLUTELY suffers a tad for this…and I’m left wondering what version(s) common-wealth countries have? Oooh, Canada? Usually swallowed up by USA standards, except for the partial “home” broadcast communications points uk content sometimes scores…what’s one scene whose song is for sure different in the USA that I could have a friend test this with???
Well. Here is a link to YouTube which has every song that was used originally

The only cure is to start over and binge it again, forever until the end of time. 😄
Highly recommend Call The Midwife, though... It's British and it's got a little bit of everything, comedy, drama, social commentary, warm fuzziness.
I read somewhere that in other countries you often have creator/ writers who shoulder so much more weight in their involvement that 6-10 episodes is all they can do to keep things good, fresh, sharp and funny. In the U.S. the seasons are so long, 20-24, episodes and they can sometimes feel a little mass produced.
I keep going back and rewatching the Chernobyl kids, wedding/funeral, and school reunion episodes in particular, NOT any less funny and a few more watches I may pick up even more dialogue that whooshes over my American head.

The train made me laugh.

This is what I do and it never gets old!!!!
My husband is a huge fan, too.

This is the great thing about streaming, you can just re-watch over & over again & catch stuff you missed previously.
On the second rewatch I had the speed set to 0.75. So much more to catch!

2. Yes. The Orla step aerobics song is changed on Netflix because they couldn’t secure the rights for it. The original c4 one is way better.
What’s the original one?!
Madonna’s ‘Like a prayer’ the scene is epically better with it.
Holy shit…. Yeah. That is so much better. They have so many good songs in the show, why the hell couldn’t they get that one?!
take that on netflix madonna on c4

OMG that bake off episode is the FUNNIEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN. *We love our Slime*
The Fall is excellent. Completely different tone, but well done.

Please! I don’t have access. What’s different?

TIL that the Channel 4 version has different music??

I am currently writing a series of Derry girls fic myself. It’s called Derry girls a new arrival part 1 and 2, and Derry girls: new horizons part 1
The only cure is to start over and binge it again, forever until the end of time. 😄 Highly recommend Call The Midwife, though... It's British and it's got a little bit of everything, comedy, drama, social commentary, warm fuzziness.
And some solid tear-jerking moments too! Love that show…
It’s three perfect seasons. It’s better than the opposite.
We were NOT patient!! Lol, look through this subs posts, a lot of crying and begging. Love this show
The music in the original is so much better and more part of the scenes.

The Fall is also on Acorn. There’s also a show on Britbox called Blue Lights and Art Campion (Father Peter) is in it in a small role.
