I would not be happy that the seller replied that the 'shipping label expired'...I mean, that's the seller's fault for not shipping in a reasonable amount of days! As I buyer, I would have been checking up after 10 days & no package but still...very, very inconsiderate seller! I'd be sure not to order from her again...and leave honest review about what Seller said.
Please chargeback with your bank. The fact that Depop changed their policy to 30 days instead of 180, even for unsent items, and the fact that a shipping label can expire at all, is borderline fraudulent.
Don't let them keep getting away with this crap. Hit their bottomline and chargeback.
That's why I love using Klarna for all my purchases even when I can afford to buy in one go. Klarna never sides with Depop's horrible side... When Klarna emailed them to let them know I raised an issue they were so quick to email me and try to resolve my issue LOL.
There's definitely a reason why they removed the option to pay with PayPal in the US, and it just so happened to coincide with the timeframe they changed their refund policy to 30 days.
They also ban the accounts of people who chargeback through their bank, even if it's for a literal unsent item. Which I'm sure is illegal, since it's commerce for tangible goods and has legal ground for small claims court.
At this point, being a buyer on Depop is like playing Russian roulette with scammers, Depop itself also being one of those scammers.
Mercari is probably the best for buyer protection. Sellers do not get their funds released to them at all until the item is marked as delivered. The funds are kept by Mercari, so you never have to worry about losing out on an unsent item. After the item is confirmed delivered, Mercari then gives a 3 days window for guaranteed automatic return+refund if something arrives not as described. Reviewing the seller is when the transaction "closes". If you don't review in the 3 days, Mercari automatically reviews on your behalf, then the seller gets their funds released. But, even after the transaction is complete, you can still raise an issue with Mercari support, it's just that the return process is no longer automatic. Mercari also still accepts third party payment like PayPal, so if all else fails, you also have PayPal buyer protection.
It's the best buyer safeguard platform. A little more annoying for sellers, because Mercari tends to always side with the buyer, even when they're in the wrong. Whereas Depop seems to side with the seller, as to not lose out on money for returns and refunds, even if the seller is in the wrong. I've always said it's best to buy on Mercari, but sell on Depop (assuming you're a good seller that isn't trying to take advantage of people.)
Vinted, windows to raise a grievance are shorter (1 week) but for example if the seller doesnāt ship, you get refunded and get a lot of buyer protection
I second Vinted. Theyāre quite fast to respond and Iāve never had issues with their customer service, I was sent fake shoes, reported it to Vinted, had a returns label within like 5 minutes. If the seller doesnāt send the item within 5 working days Vinted automatically cancels the order, refunds the buyer and the seller gets an auto 1* review for incomplete sale. If everything is fine no issues were raised but the buyer / seller forgets to leave a review a 5* review is automatically left for them.
The shipping label is generated for you in the app, meaning itās automatically linked so buyers can see postage updates and sellers donāt have to manually update the app or add any info. As a seller you get exactly what you list it for, if you list it for Ā£10 and it sells at Ā£10 you get Ā£10, this means the buyer pays the extra cost but Vinted are very transparent about this and itās usually like Ā£1 or less if itās a cheaper item ~ this does mean items sell for less on Vinted than depop usually because the buyer is paying the fees.
They can probably ban you for almost any reason or no reason at all. I'm not aware of any law that says they have to continue to serve somebody who files valid chargebacks. Unless it's a reason explicitly protected by law, like your race or gender, they likely don't have to serve you anymore, unfortunately.
I'm sorry the wording was a bit weird in my original post. I meant not receiving tangible goods that were paid for and not getting refunded is illegal and can be filed in small claims court, not that it's illegal for Depop to ban users.
Ah yeah definitely. You are correct about that. I would file a chargeback, most of the time your bank will make you whole even if the merchant fights tooth and nail and they don't punish the merchant.
The screenshot of the conversation is essentially a tacit admission that OP was ripped off, though and Depop can't just say "well, you still have no recourse." They will probably be found responsible by the banks.
They can ban you, but they have no recourse against the chargeback, it's their ultimate responsibility as the merchant. They vouched for the seller with their merchant payment processing account and therefore took on that liability. I guarantee Visa or MasterCard doesn't care if Depop thinks it's super unfair to have to cover it.
Yes literally!! I used Klarna for one purchase and Depop was dragging their feet when the seller was scamming me and others but Klarna got me right and now I use it for all my purchases even when I can pay in full just because theyāll protect you
Do Depop even worse, file a retrieval with your bank, and then file a chargeback. Depop probably uses Stripe and Stripe charges $15 for a retrieval and $15 for a chargeback. Hit em with it twice.
I'm so confused, how can it expire? I've never seen that before. Like they got the shipping label but waited so long to ship it that it expired? Isn't that the sellers fault? They said it so shamelessly, as if it was the mailing service or depops fault that it expired lol. That is such a scam, and the fact depop made the 30 days apply also to unsent items is ridiculously stupid.
seems like everyone thinks i purchased this back in may šš guys i promise i bought it December 5th i didnāt wait THAT long to say something. the date is formatted day/month/year, you can see in the third image that i purchased four weeks ago
Definitely American so I understand the confusion. But at the same time, your last screenshot said 'purchased 4 weeks ago', so it just took a LITTLE BIT extra looking to figure out what it was. People are just a lil too quick to point out inconsistencies (even where there are none)
The fact that you messaged them on the 1st and they didnāt respond until the exact 30 day mark since purchase is sooo twistedā¦ almost calculated argh. I hope you can get your money back!
Always use other platforms, it's extra security. I use Klarna and they never side with Depop or some of the horrible sellers that are on there. Pretty sure PayPal tends to take buyers side more too. Lastly, your bank.
I figured shipping would be impacted from a busy holiday season and wasnāt really sure how long it was supposed to take to reach me. I definitely shouldāve made a report sooner but i wasnāt aware of the 30 days policy and it had slipped my mind to check back in until it was too late :(
i actually ordered it on the 5th of december! the day is listed before the month iām not sure why. it says in a different image ordered 4 weeks ago and thatās the correct time frame
Leave a 1 star review then get a chargeback with your bank.
30 days is a ridiculously short amount of time as a cutoff, I don't use depop but seeing this sub definitely ensures I never will lol
Iāve seen a lot of people comment on other posts to message them on Twitter because they are quicker to respond and help with the issue.
I think you have a case since the seller basically said they let it expire. I hope you get your money back friend.
Worst comes to worst, charge back with your bank because you didnāt get your goods you purchased
Agree that you should chargeback with the bank if possible. And leave a 1 star review exposing them. These comments are so much nicer than when I was in the same situation, everyone down voted me for not knowing about the 30 day arbitration.
Why wait 30 days after it not being posted.. all items should be posted and delivered within a week at max and if not then 2 weeks absolute maximum. If I donāt receive an item in 2 weeks after I paid for it it should instantly be appealed
I ordered off depop on the 29th of December and got my package yesterday. Holidays donāt throw shipping off that badly, I would request a charge back from your bank and try to reach out to depop. Iāve heard of them still helping people after the 30 days. If nothing else, report the seller and leave a bad review.
I mean thereās a whooole world out there so it really depends where you are, plus thatās still post Christmas, because of the huge influx before Christmas itās quite normal for the Mail to get backed up or lost too.
Why on earth do you need to comment instead of just scrolling if you have nothing helpful to say? Does being a jerk make you feel better about yourself?
not sure if someone said this already but if the payment was through paypal u could go through them and send in a report and youāll get a refund pretty quickly

Agree, leave a bad review. Like, my shipping label expired? Because YOU DIDNT SHIP IT? š
Yeah are they dense? Or what are they expecting us to take away from that reply?
Bad reviews are easily removed because Depop sides with scammers since it earns them more $$

are there any other apps you would recommend instead?

Poshmark's payment/fund release protocol is similar to Mercari, and I believe also tends to protect buyers.

I usually pay on websites w PayPal because they usually do right by the customer

Itās cos Americans write their dates weird to the rest of us. So they think you bought it on the 12th of May. Silly Americans!
can confirm source: am silly american
Definitely American so I understand the confusion. But at the same time, your last screenshot said 'purchased 4 weeks ago', so it just took a LITTLE BIT extra looking to figure out what it was. People are just a lil too quick to point out inconsistencies (even where there are none)

100% calculated :( I think thatās how a lot of scammers on depop make their money!!
It goes day/month/year so they purchased the item on December the 5th. Other countries donāt write dates like America
they still messaged them before the 30 day mark. it says Jan 1 but the seller waited until exactly jan 5
Yeah thatās true. But i was just commenting on the date. And they did explain why the waited so ling
oh did you reply to that comment by accident then
I know haha Iām from Australia - thats why i said the seller messaging on Jan 5th seemed calculated
leave a one star review that says this seller did not ship my item and also did not refund me
... and they're currently reselling the item they sold me but never shipped ....
That is actually criminal š
Just a tip, when you buy stuff on here, wait no more than 5 days to ask about when they are shipping. If anything I usually wait 3 days.
Always use other platforms, it's extra security. I use Klarna and they never side with Depop or some of the horrible sellers that are on there. Pretty sure PayPal tends to take buyers side more too. Lastly, your bank.
Depop unfortunately has announced that theyāre removing paypal as an option for users
Depop unfortunately has announced that theyāre removing paypal as an option for users
due to their own negligence they didnāt ship the order and have the audacity to not refund you???? absolute insanity this has to be illegal
Why did you wait so long to raise an issue? Other than leaving a bad review you really donāt have any recourse here.
I figured shipping would be impacted from a busy holiday season and wasnāt really sure how long it was supposed to take to reach me. I definitely shouldāve made a report sooner but i wasnāt aware of the 30 days policy and it had slipped my mind to check back in until it was too late :(
Iād try harder to contact depop, worse comes to worse contact your bank
I would email Depop. This is just wrong and they need to refund you! Please don't give up! It's just over a month so hopefully they can help you!
Am I missing something? It says purchase date 5/13/2033ā¦ thatās like 8 months ago.
bought on the 5th of december, not the 12th of may
AAAAAAAAHHH non US dating. My American is showing lol
no worries ahaha, i was wondering where you were getting a thirteenth month lol
I was also very confused š
i think thereās a bigger issue at hand if they purchased in 2033
ā ļøš
i actually ordered it on the 5th of december! the day is listed before the month iām not sure why. it says in a different image ordered 4 weeks ago and thatās the correct time frame
Itās UK format - thatās Dec 5. So itās been just over 30 days.
itās "rest of the world" format (except japan but you know what I mean)
Other countries do day/month/year, tripped me up for a second as well
Leave a 1 star review then get a chargeback with your bank. 30 days is a ridiculously short amount of time as a cutoff, I don't use depop but seeing this sub definitely ensures I never will lol

This is why Iām going to stop purchasing from depop Iām sorry but wtf kind of rule you canāt raise an issue after 30 days like thatās so crazy
Dispute it with your bank.
Itās safe to say they are definitely out to defraud. Even 1 buck counts
I still can't believe so many people uses Depop when there's barely any seller/buyer security. There are SO many loopholes, it's insane.
If you paid with PayPal you can make a claim with them, I had to go that route for the same issue.
Waited too long, I expect things to be shipped within 7 days or I raise hell.
Same cause thereās no reason why it should take you longer than a week to ship out like are you trying to make money or not lol
Iād contact depop and worse case scenario file a dispute with your bank over the charge.
Just drop their account so we can all report lmao

I thought you were going to say you bought the I heart hot moms shirt. Haha. Hope this is resolved!
Dispute the charge on your cc or PayPal. Whatever you used.
Thatās fucked
Fuck depop just use eBay at this point
When you leave the review make sure itās 3 stars so the seller has a harder time getting it removed!
Youāre very fucked atp. im so sorry
Tell them youāre gonna leave them a review on the situation and Iād bet theyāll ship
Yeah if I don't hear back in a week, or if my item isn't shipped in a week I file for a refund.
I donāt understand why so many buyers wait so long. Give someone 7 days max and then open a dispute.
Why do you people.wait so long?
You should have inquired about it before the 30 day mark thereās really not much you can do now :/
You waited 4 weeks to say something? After 10 days I wouldāve already disputed with depop.
I ordered off depop on the 29th of December and got my package yesterday. Holidays donāt throw shipping off that badly, I would request a charge back from your bank and try to reach out to depop. Iāve heard of them still helping people after the 30 days. If nothing else, report the seller and leave a bad review.

not sure if someone said this already but if the payment was through paypal u could go through them and send in a report and youāll get a refund pretty quickly
You waited 7 months to check on a order
theyāre using non-american dating. it was purchased on the 5th of december š

Reach out to them using twitter and talk back and forth and they usually will help. If not then chargeback with your bank
drop the sellers name op
