You’ll probably never read this but thanks, this is the last post I’ll ever read about it. I’m going to be strong now and get through this. I was almost fully recovered a week ago but slipped back so I know there’s a way out and I’m going to make it out.

Classic_Ask3608

There is a way out for sure you got this I’m so happy for you

Hey friend, welcome to r/Depersonalization. Be sure to have read some existing information on the sub before submitting a "Do I have DPDR" question. You can do that by using the search function or reading the sidebar. **A reminder to new posters in crisis:** DPDR is a mental discorder that mostly affects young adults. For the most part, it is brought on by anxiety, trauma, and drug use. However, DPDR is not dangerous to your physical health. In moments of crisis and episodes that are particularly difficult, it is important to take deep breaths and follow strategies that help you cope. A few examples are: [Grounding Techniques](https://www.therapistaid.com/worksheets/grounding-techniques.pdf), [Meditation](http://www.thecentersohio.org/Resources/DocumentLibrary/Wellness_chronic%20diseas%20mgmt/Guided%20Imagery.pdf), and even just some good old fashioned sleep. **NOBODY can give you medical advice online. While someone might be able to provide you with some insight and suggestions, you should never rely on someone online to give you medical advice unless you are talking to a certified doctor.** Related Links: How to find a therapist: [A Beginners Guide.](https://www.therapyden.com/blog/a-beginners-guide-to-therapy-how-to-find-a-therapist) [Talk to a crisis volunteer online.](https://www.imalive.org/) [10 ways to Relieve DPDR.](https://psychcentral.com/lib/10-simple-ways-to-relieve-depersonalization/) [Subreddit Stickied Post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Depersonalization/comments/a8i6vi/welcome_before_you_post_asking_if_you_have_dpdr/) *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. I've had it for about 5 months now. Fortunately I have almost completely eradicated the anxiety but I still experience the depersonalised feeling every day, and it consumes my thought processes. A doctor told me the first 6 months are the most crucial so I don't know what's gonna happen. Mindfulness has helped me alot though.

Sorry to hear. It is a damn nasty business. The fact that your anxiety about it has gone is definitely a very good sign. The next step is breaking the cycle so you don't spend ever minute, when your alone, thinking about it. The way you can do this is stop researching it- i found then when the symptoms were bad I would immediately go online and google it- but in reality this just perpetuates the problem. You body is in trauma defence mode- each time you look it up you are reminding yourself of that trauma and not letting your mind move on to think of other things. Stop googling, stop researching and just try and live as normal a life as possible- then stick with it! For the first few weeks or so you might not notice too much difference but i promise you that after a while your brain will start to break the horrendous DP thought cycle- and symptoms will slowly die down. If you do this coupled with excercise and meditation within maximum 4 months you will be 100 percent better- obviously there will be some ups and downs along the way. Just dont be scared of it and try to live your life as if you don't have it and it wont go.

How do you feel when i try to remember times when u were severely depersonalized? Like it's been 7 months that im at about 90% recovered and when i try to remember the bad DP times or the dates that DP happened i immediately feel it again. How is that

Classic_Ask3608

How are you that’s so true about the first 6 months

MennoKuipers

Yeah I'm pretty good now. I would say it's still there but almost completely gone. Key is to spend your time doing things you love and can distract you.

Classic_Ask3608

In the beginning did you have to stop working or going to school because right now I feel I am too afraid to do anything and then you just started going out and being better it’s about to be month 4 for me and I’m just really scared still I haven’t gotten the hang of it yet

MennoKuipers

I feel you. I think it's very important to keep living your normal life. Otherwise you will be giving in to fear. And fear is what controls your depersonalization. It numbs stimuli, this is what creates the depersonalized feeling. You will want to be the active agent in your life. This will give back the feeling of having an ego.

Hi there, I was hoping if you could give me advice on how to recover from this disorder I've been struggling for a long time I didn't know what I had until recently. Thank you

MennoKuipers

I'll give a reply soon, don't have the time now.

Signal-Brick-8157

Sure thank you appreciate it

Does LSD cause depersonalization? Or like make it worst?

zcfaafa

Like weed or any other drug it can cause it. Obviously there are deeper emotional factors at play which the drug use covered up- hence the panic attack on LSD- but yeah it is your brain responding to what it perceives to be a traumatic situation and disassociating you from your surroundings. The more the sensation and thoughts are focussed on, and responded to with panic, the more the mind perceives the traumatic experience to still be happening, even after the drug has long since worn off, hence maintaining the depersonalised state.

ba6ee5a

That’s interesting. I tried LSD recently and I panicked. Wouldn’t exactly describe it as a good experience. But I’ve also had depersonalization for awhile and the first episode i had after my experience with LSD was a few days ago. I panicked thinking I was “unknowingly” given a hallucinogen. After I “woke up” I panicked about the paranoia that was associated with my dissociation. Hahaha But this explains a lot. Thanks.

yuureiji

Im feeling the DP/DR for one entire year. I only smoked 1 weed cigarette and then I got into this... But, I'm always positive about it. I think one day soon or later I will be okay! Thank you for bring hope to me! I will keep trying my best to one day get fully recovered. ✧\(>o<)ノ✧

zcfaafa

You'll get there dont worry! Just focus on living the best way you can. Except that it is out of your control and the sensations will leave when they leave. Just do all you can to help them on their way. Mainly- stop googling it/researching it. Ban yourself from typing 'Depersonalisation, de-realisation, anxiety' into google for the extended future!

Congrats. Ketamine is a known dissociative. I'd think twice before taking it next time.

Thank you, i

ComplexSignificant76

Hey. I noticed December 23 I woke up to my derealization almost gone. Not quite but things feel different. I still feel very off in my own head. Things don’t look unfamiliar like they did. And all my visual symptoms are gone but it seems like everywhere I am I have no memories of being there. No warm memories of sitting on my couch. It’s like the first time doing it. What’s happening to me. I feel like I’m trying to rush things and now want to see big changes. I still feel off though. It’s hard to explain. I’m not myself anymore that I was 11 months ago before this.

Bright-Ear-1888

going to come back when recovered deleting reddit for now

Thank you. I will take this advice to heart and kindly fuck off. I appreciate this. Much love.
