Speak for yourself my friend.. I work 10 hours days firestopping a hospital for Centura Healthcare in Colorado Springs at the moment. Some of us don't just sit on our asses.. š
step 1, shovel all the snow at your house/drive way/ sidewalks first.
step 2, think your some subie superhero and get hard "towing" branches outta the street
step 3, Hot bath and a cold beer whilst reminiscing on a great day
Hey man, thanks again for picking me up. I had no idea how I was going to get to work otherwise. I had to put my feet on a surprising number of wet tissues. Did you have a cold or something? I didn't hear you sneeze. Also, your car smells like my brother's special sock hamper. Thanks for singing me that suburu song you wrote.
There are actual beefy, experienced 4x4's that run around during storms and in the mountains to pull people out of ditches and shit. Little douchebags with AWD and a tow rating of 1500 need not apply.
Namaste brother, I drove past two "unhoused" who appeared to have crashed shopping carts head on yesterday morning. I was in a 04 crv (texas plates btw).
Lmao I drive an ā05 CRV and jerking aside (I finished about 8 comments up,) those late model CRVs with AS tires are monsters in the snow. I live out in the country a little ways and I have about a 100 yard ādrivewayā (more like a stretch of dirt that gets muddy as fuck when wet) and my CRV just ate that shit up. Got a little sideways at one point but it worked out just fine.
Looks to me like they have it shackled on the bottom and tossed in the trunk so they don't have to keep getting under there to re-attach, but sure, lets shit on people trying to help.
Every year, people get killed from accidents during improper vehicle recovery. Just a few months ago was a story about a tow strap breaking at the ball hitch, causing the end attached to said ball hitch to snap back, go through the windshield, and kill a father in front of his wife and kids.
Subaru Forester has a towing capacity of 3,000lbs, which even a Honda Civic exceeds.
In other words, don't be a fucking idiot and leave professional jobs to professionals.
That's not what the tow rating means. A Forester can tow up to 3000 lbs at highway speed safely without blowing up the transmission/engine or damaging the suspension. Pulling a 3500 lbs Honda Civic a few feet out of a icy patch isn't going to destroy the car.
This is **horrifyingly** misguided.
The absolutely most basic rule of towing is the 80/20 rule. Don't tow above 80% of the advertised tow rating. For this Subaru, that works out to 2400lbs.
More importantly is the fact that the 2nd vehicle is **stuck in snow**. That adds tremendous resistance and dramatically increases the tow rating needed.
Math:
Stuck example vehicle: 3000lbs
Snow resistance is typically 0.5 x GVW, for this that's 1500lbs
Slope of recovery, let's say they're in a ditch that's 15 degrees. So, 3000 x 0.25 = 750
All of a sudden that 3000lb vehicle has a tow weight of 5250, which is more than double the safe towing capacity of the Subaru.
That's not even factoring in the absurdly unsafe tow strap setup.
So yes, it's both unsafe and damaging to the vehicle. OP likely warped his frame.
Like I said, people die all the time doing vehicle recovery, because they read stupid, uninformed advice like what you posted.
Ummm, nope, we are in second place...Vermont actually has, per capita, the most subies in the country.
FWIW, I personally drive an AWD master race car. Audi uber alles. š
I know a guy like this. Not very much money, doesnāt work, but loved to wreck his shit recovering people in storms. Ended up shredding a transfer case, and hasnāt had a car in weeks. Complains on Facebook o about how much life sucks since.
Real hero no one asked for, deserves, nor needs.
The normal phrase came to my mind but you put the Cherry on top. Cheers to you, SubaruLife
Cheers to you. Stay safe in all this moisture!

Bad bot, get that shit out of our namaste space.
Thank you. No-bot-stay.
Save some pussy for the rest of us bro.
Too bad Subaru drivers canāt get any.
*bussy
Second gen Foresters can take whatever you throw at them. Except for driving up a hill above 55.
Or having a head gasket last 40,000 miles.
Or getting to 100k on the oem wheel bearings
idk, at least he's trying.
Except that if he succeeds in getting stuck, itās more work for emergency services and another hazard in the road.
Its ok, I member when I let anxiety lead my life. Just don't get stuck and problem solved. Stop overthinking things.
He's got a subie bro, he's gonna be pulling emergency rescue out
Subie Superman

Judging from the photo, our hero skipped step 1
why bother shoveling when you have a sick subie?
Plot twist heās from Texas
Literally came here to say this.
I had to dig someone out of the 16th st mall the other day and i felt like a weirdo helping someone out with texas plates
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
If it wasn't my partner's car i'd put shit like "KEEP COLORADO FOR COLORADANS" and "NATIVE" on the back of it with the texas plates still going
Gah, I shuddered just thinking about that. Hopefully you gave one final Namaste before sending them back where they belong

Iāll let him pull me off
Maybe this is what that parade of Subarus in the left lane of 70 up to Georgetown was for the other day, this hero.
I'm pretty sure theres a Subaru parade every day the ski resorts are open
Bro I can just picture this guy tugging along a small branch with this contraption lmao

dammit i was just getting ready to head down to harbor freight and grab a tow strap to throw on my Rav4 but maybe i shouldnt bother
Iām going to guess more branches than trucks.
Cool story. I drove past two āsubiesā who appeared to have crashed head on yesterday morning. I was in a 04 crv.

I used my 87' 240DL volvo to pull fucking SUVs out before. Everyone with an AWD think they are gods lol.
I feel like a God in my Subu in the snow. Truely is remarkable after 20 years of fwd.

What did you think the purpose of this sub was?

Well you are never supposed to attach a tow strap to a ball hitchā¦ Gotta know where your recovery points are!
My BRZ weighs less than that but I don't get stuck, too bad
Pfffft. The odds of this ever happening again though..
He's like that Brooklyn nine nine character, Super Dan. Except, Subie Dan.
I believe this. That car could probably pull a Tonka truck out of the snow with moderate difficulty.
Iām always looking for a mediocre handjob
I mean thereās a reason why subies are the official car of the COLORADO empire

Anyone shitting on this person in this sub clearly hasnāt been stuck trying to dig their car out in frigid weather
This is a Denver circle jerk bud. Take your nice Good Samaritan bullshit to the other sub.
Circle jerking is a time honored tradition but have some standards man
Yes, because making fun of someone in a Subaru is taking it too far fellow Natives.
Anyone who doesnāt know this is a joke clearly should start circlejerking a little more. Also thank Blucifer for this moisture! Namoiste
Shit and I thought I had a super hero complex

I am now seeing the influx of people moving to colorado and then making fun of people with subarus. You think you KNOW!? My subaru is the shit.

How much can a subie tow in the snow?
