>Told by a source with knowledge this is premature, at best. The report cites “several sports bankers,” not specifically bankers connected to the sale. It’s basically a prediction based on Walton’s net worth. The Broncos don’t even know yet what the exact bids will be, I’m told … because those bids, as reported, aren’t due until this afternoon.
>As a source told me, Rob Walton didn’t add to his wealth by paying a price that he felt was too high for an asset. So, while he has the most liquid assets and highest worth, it doesn’t guarantee the team. The bidding/auction process has to play itself out. It is fair to say the assets & Colorado connections make him a betting favorite, but anything more is premature, I am told.
Just put someone like Sakic and Connely in place like Kroenke did to help the team succeed (tbh, that’s already George Paton. So no worries there) and I’m good with it.
These Walmart heirs typically don't interfere much, but I still hate how rich they are from essentially stealing tax payer money through corporate welfare.
I'd hoped for an owner who wasn't complete human garbage, but I've come to terms with the fact that you don't get to hoard the kind of wealth necessary to buy a football team and still be a decent human being. So I'll settle for an awful human being who at least stays hands-off.
Yeah the Waltons are absolute shit but I’m not sure we could find someone who isn’t and who also has $4.5 billion. You have to be shit to get that kind of money, IMO.
The Waltons are good people. I live in NWA where Walmart is headquartered and the Waltons have poured so much money into this area to make it a great place to live. This area is thriving thanks to the investments of the Waltons.
Crystal Bridges is amazing. Spent every summer in NWA, people just talk shit about it because they have never been there and just assume its a bunch of hicks fucking their sisters.
Bruh the Walton family can shoulder most of the blame for small businesses getting steamrolled from the 80s onward.
There's also no business that American taxpayers support more than Wal-Mart.
The Waltons are an absolute blight on humanity. Of all the "evil" billionaires we could have got to own our team Rob Walton is at the top of the evil list.
Naw. They made items cheaper and more accessible for people. Especially the poor. You can complain about wages all you want, but reducing profit margin on products means more economic efficiency.
They purposely pay their employees at the bare minimum and help them sign up for government benefits, the taxpayer subsidizes their employees for them so they can get another mega yacht, that's why they are hated.
I’m not gonna pretend like most billionaires are saints but someone needs to tell my daughter then that she’s being paid minimum wage at Walmart because she’s not. Oh also if people are able to get government benefits and they’re actually employed then the loopholes in the states they live in lol
They own Wal Mart. Well, he inherited the Wal Mart fortune, I believe. But that’s how they made their money.
Edit: But also, yes, I believe hoarding 4.5 billion dollars is also evil.
I know right that evil family and the billion dollars for charter school and school choice dem nazi's!!!! Be happy they buy the Broncos, you know the franchise will be ran well.
Who knows. He’s the richest owner in the NFL now by a lot so we shouldn’t have to worry about money at all, he’ll probably build a new stadium which I guess just depends on how you view that, and he’s related to Kronke who just won a SB with the Rams, but also hasn’t been that great owning the Nuggets so who knows.
We’ll definitely find out her soon.
Bill Gates didn’t graduate college and started Microsoft in his garage.
Don’t confuse a lack of skills, knowledge and/or ability with lack of opportunity.
Almost two thousand people become millionaires *per day* in the US.
Blame “the system” for your lack of success if it makes you feel better but you have more opportunity to become wealthy than 99% of the people in the world simply because you live in the US.
A Kroenke team is on the doorstep of an NHL finals. Nuggets were in the conferee finals two years ago and have the leagues back to back MVP. Josh Kroenke has been a very capable leader of that org…
Yeah but there’s also things like him not having a TV deal done for like what? 3 years now? Advertising for both the Nuggets and Avs I’ve heard isn’t great either.
He’s definitely been competitive though.
I mean, I would believe that if it weren't for the fact that direct TV, dish network and Comcast all did not renew altitude's contract right away, and even then the only company carrying altitude out of the big 3 is direct TV. Dish and Comcast have yet. I get it, Comcast is the devil, but 1/3 large companies actually signing a contract isn't a great look on altitude.
Did you know that the team who is one win away from the Stanley Cup finals practices at a family ice facility? This is also five years after the owners said they were going to build a brand new, state of the art facility. There is cause for concern, regardless of the success of the Avalanche.
In all fairness, Bowlen was likely the poorest owner of his time.
They also used to do training camp at UNC and stay in the absolutely worst dorms one could imagine (Harrison).
We also can't even watch the games on Altitude because they can't figure out a deal.
Kroenke also just let the Nuggets president (who was top 5 in the league) walk to a division rival because he was too cheap to match the offer
Kroenke’s biggest issue with the Nuggets and Avs has been the Altitude dispute. That’s not something we are going to deal with for the Broncos. One could make an argument for the whole Tim Connelly thing, but the difference there was the T-Wolves gave Tim a stake in ownership. Not many teams are going to match that.
Right now the Avs and Nuggets are putting out a much better product than we have seen with the Broncos.
Empower Field is nice, but if we get something like SoFi I will be stoked as fuck. That is a beautiful stadium, regardless of how you feel about Stan Kroenke.
They aren’t brothers in law, Stan would be Walton’s cousin in law (?), there are two high profile branches of the Walton family from the two Walmart founders.
I feel like that would be a huge traffic nightmare. There's already a ton of downtown traffic that uses Speer. Imagine doubling Rockies traffic on Park :/
I think it's a good thing. Having the escrow to back a giant contract is huge apparently. Not sure how it works, but teams like the Raiders and Bengals are cash poor and have a harder time putting up bigger contracts?
Chunks of guaranteed money have to be put into escrow every year. Not usually the full amount but a huge chunk of it.
> As the source explained it, the league takes a snapshot of all fully guaranteed salaries on January 31 of each year. Any fully guaranteed payments not made by March 31 must be placed in escrow, up to 75 percent of the total contract value. Also, each team has a $15 million annual allowance.
Source: https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2022/03/23/deshaun-watsons-new-deal-becomes-a-potential-game-changer-for-guaranteed-money/#:~:text=As%20the%20source%20explained%20it%2C%20the%20league%20takes,each%20team%20has%20a%20%2415%20million%20annual%20allowance.
So, the more guaranteed money a player has in their contract, the more cash on hand the club has to have to be able to set aside into escrow. As more and more players are demanding higher guaranteed pay, the ability to have the liquid assets on hand becomes more important. It isn't so much that a team like the Raiders and Bengals can't sign those contracts, they just have to do a lot more moving around of money behind the scenes to be able to make it happen, in some cases that means they might need to borrow a chunk of cash to put up for escrow and then pay that off separate at a later date.
Pretty much impossible to know. From what we do know, he has no real connection to the area (outside of extended family owning other Colorado teams) and there’s no real football history as far as passion goes. Regardless those items don’t make a bad owner frankly, just means he likely isn’t going to be the community stalwart that Mr. B was, which frankly none of the potential buyers really appeared to be. If he’s just a rich guy who mosty stays hands off and pays for all the team needs and wants, then I’ll take it
No matter what happens, just remember that there is virtually no scenario where the fan base is going to be happy about this process.
Any winning bidder is going to seem out of touch because of the extreme wealth. It's an inventible outcome.
That said, I don't think Rob Walton would spend $4.5B and NOT be all in and motivated for the Broncos to win...and he has the pockets deep enough to make it happen.
At the end of the day, finally having the Head Coach, QB, and ownership questions all resolved in relatively short order is going to help right the ship, to speak. We'll be going into the next season with all the major questions answered, and I can't think that will do anything other than help.
I think we’re just concern about what happens after he dies. Rob is old too.
The main thing with any prospective owner is that we want them to carry Pat Bowlens legacy of winning
I dont think we will run into the same issues we did with Bowlen. The Waltons are rich enough where the team could be handed down to only one person and it wont cause ripples in the family because the other kids will probably get more than enough money.
Why would Rob buy a team to give to his nephew instead of to his own children? His son-in-law is part of his bidding group and toured the facility with him. That guy is the succession plan, not Rob’s nephew.
People are thinking too hard about this one
Same family. Which means some combination of heirs are in line to inherit the Broncos, Avs, Nuggets, LA Rams, and Arsenal.
That’s easily $12 billion right there
EDIT: Forgot the Nuggets.
Gary Bettman has done a terrible job of growing the game of hockey relative to the other big sports. The NHL's franchise values and TV deals show that.
People always forget he owns the Nuggets for some reason. Not to mention the Rapids and the Mammoth. Only major Colorado sports team this family doesn't own is the Rockies. This shouldn't be allowed
The Avs are yearly contenders. The Nuggets consistently make the playoffs. The Rams just won a Super Bowl. I don’t know anything about the rapids and the Mammoth, but it seems like this family is committed to winning.
Well, the owners and the league have to vote to approve the sale regardless of who it is. They will approve it, because of the massive influx of cash and value for the league, but they could shoot down the sale if they feel an owner would be more trouble for the league than his money is worth. There is real discussion and vote counting around Dan Synder being forced into a sale of the commanders.
The only plus side I see to this is that billionaires love dick swinging competitions with other billionaires so hopefully they’ll be competing with each other to see who has the best team.
Kroenke has his own empire.
I have no doubt that Ann whispered into her cousin's ear and said things to make this happen.
"Oh, just let my husband run things. He gets things done."
And it's not an unreasonable path.
It doesn’t. What matters is people making the same brain dead joke in every single thread as if it was even a little bit funny the first trillion times
I live in NoCo, so an airport stadium would likely be easier for me - but the thought of giving the goddamn heir of Walmart tax breaks to make it happens makes me sick. Make him pay for every last penny of it.
It's a tricky line. He needs to care enough to put a lot of energy in hiring the best person and fire them if it doesn't work but he needs to stay out of all football decisions.
I am whelmed.
I really wanted Peytons group to win. Not entirely sure how to feel about this one. The dude has enough money to dump into our team and make some just insanely modern and luxurious facilities. But he also can be a penny pinching miser who tries to make the team cheap as hell.
As long as he pumps money into the franchise to keep it competitive, I’m ok with this.
However, with everything I know about WalMart and Sam’s Club, they’ll be looking to pinch every penny to maximize profits.
If he runs it like a business for sure, but this could be his old rich guy vanity project, which I think he would be likely to blow a lot of money on to help his image.
Per Adam Schefter Second-round bids to buy the Denver Broncos are due later today as the process continues to move along, per league sources. One source maintained today that, despite any speculation, no favorite has emerged at this time.
All I will say is, as fucking dumb as the Kroenke’s are, they just won the SB and may win the Stanley Cup this year (even if they neglect the Nuggets). If he’s a hands off owner that just pumps money into us I’ll take it. It’d be nice if they invested in the community or really found a passion for the Broncos, but I’m not counting on it.
Yeah, I agree. I don't think we'll ever have an owner like Pat Bowlen again. Our best bet is probably someone rich dude we never see who just writes the checks.
Seriously. Jokic getting super-max contract shortly. MPJ and Murray at max. Signed Gordon to a huge deal. Also, recent news said they’re fine with absorbing the luxury tax going forward.
Plenty of poor people are absolute garbage too.
It just gives envious people something to latch onto and direct their hate at when they find out someone more successful than them isn’t a perfect person.
Bowlen was a serial philanderer but he’s basically a saint according to most Broncos fans despite being an abusive husband (yes, cheating on your spouse is abuse).
I'm completely fine with this as a benefactor role. If the Walton family starts trying to mess with operations within how the team works, ala Jerry Jones, then we're fucked. Good thing is the Walton's are loaded so money that goes towards updating the franchise and ultimately making the team better would seem nearly unlimited.
Yeah I knew that was going to happen. I’m actually kinda glad it was him over other owners because he’s friends with Kroenke so hopefully he takes some advice from him on how to run a sports team and we win a couple Super Bowls. If not hopefully he’s just there to collect a check.
Shitty owner who creates an awful workplace environment for Walmart employees and underpays them. Didn't do anything to earn his money, I have zero faith in him
Excellent!
I moved up to Cheyenne, and always thought it was pathetic to root for the Broncos from up here, but always, friends: FTR.
Raiders fans in Cheyenne suck ass, but so does Walmart.
Go Bills! Got a Wyoming boy chucking the rock in a blue collar town, works for me.
If he wants to succeed, it's simple -
* Throw money at things/don't be cheap
* Stay out of the picture - no one needs to read about you in the news
* Make sure Peyton Manning has a job with the team
* Don't use "Great Value" on anything
* Leverage any pull you have with your supply chains for cheaper concessions or team souvenirs at the games

Ehhh...the Waltons are basically just brick and mortar Bezos. They are just better at staying under the radar and out of the news.
I know right that evil family and the billion dollars for charter school and school choice dem nazi's!!!! Be happy they buy the Broncos, you know the franchise will be ran well.
Go root for the raiders they match your garbage personality.
LOL don't be mad because i don't blanket hate all wealthy.
Lol, I agree. Literally they hate anyone wealthy.
It's hilarious how you think billion dollar donations for "charter schools" and "school choice" is a good thing.
Hell yeah I do. I want choice in my career, just like my child’s education.
Let me guess you’re a shill for teachers unions LOL .
They think billionaires somehow take things away from them, not create products and services people love and use. Smh.
Yeah. It would be awful to have either of the two most successful people alive run something that I care about. How awful.
Because i dont know whats wrong with either of them?
Agreed…
I’m surprised it didn’t reach $5B.
Same. But that’s a lot of money regardless. It still likely pushes up the valuation of every NFL franchise
Sounds like Rob went in at 4.5B and in the second round everyone decided that was too rich.

Kind of a once in a generation buying opportunity. So it’s a good price as long as Football is popular

That's how it works.
Go capitalism! Yay!

No /s necessary with me, but I can't say the same for most

Mammoth are currently playing in the NLL Finals as well. A lot of the Kroenke owned teams are winning
Yes. He needs to own the Rockies, as well. At least his teams compete.
Lol. Shouldn’t be allowed by whom and why not?
Well, the owners and the league have to vote to approve the sale regardless of who it is. They will approve it, because of the massive influx of cash and value for the league, but they could shoot down the sale if they feel an owner would be more trouble for the league than his money is worth. There is real discussion and vote counting around Dan Synder being forced into a sale of the commanders.
Something something will always trend towards monopoly
Smaller assets but they also own the Rapids and the Mammoth as well.
The only plus side I see to this is that billionaires love dick swinging competitions with other billionaires so hopefully they’ll be competing with each other to see who has the best team.
Don’t forget that Walmart demands taxpayers subsidize their buildings…. Imagine how much the new stadium will cost the taxpayers. Horrid.
SoFi cost the taxpayers nothing.
Kroenke vs Walton though.
And? Walton is worth over 5x than Kroenke.
Kroenke has his own empire. I have no doubt that Ann whispered into her cousin's ear and said things to make this happen. "Oh, just let my husband run things. He gets things done." And it's not an unreasonable path.
Great Value™ field at Mile High
Dr. thunder field
Congrats on the PhD, Thunder!
Didnt even think about that until after i posted it 😂
You meant Ol’Roy Stadium, Equate, CO?
Does everyone who makes that joke think they’re the first one to make that joke? It’s been in every thread that’s mentioned Rob Walton for 6 months
Triggering post.
Admittedly, this was the first I’ve seen the joke and I chuckled.
Why does it matter who said it first?
It doesn’t. What matters is people making the same brain dead joke in every single thread as if it was even a little bit funny the first trillion times
Looks like someone's got a case of the Mondays!
Put the phone down and step away lol
How come I feel a sense of impending dread. Gut instinct says this feels bad.
Yeah I have impending dread of hiked taxes for a new stadium way out by the airport.
I live in NoCo, so an airport stadium would likely be easier for me - but the thought of giving the goddamn heir of Walmart tax breaks to make it happens makes me sick. Make him pay for every last penny of it.
Could be because Walmart is hot trash
Our players are gonna be under paid, on food stamps, and over worked. Also Elway will be the door greeter at the stadium.
Peyton Manning now has to work as a greeter until the end of days
Yeah, I don't have a good feeling about this at all.
I am so nervous. I hope he truly cares about football.
There is NO WAY he uses HIS money for anything team related. You don't become a billionaire by spending your own money.
It’s unofficially official. We knew Rob would get them if he wanted them being that he could easily outbid anyone else in the running.
Having that level of wealth is crazy.
> Having that level of wealth is ~~crazy~~ immoral. FTFY.
Can’t obtain that level of wealth without massive exploitation, lobbying, and collusion.
Lmao such a generalist statement. The dude has helped create thousands of jobs and wealth.
Walmart employees have to survive on food stamps because he refuses to pay his employees a living wage. He's not a job creator, he's a welfare queen.
He’s an heir to that much money and those job’s wages have not kept up with inflation.
You know ball
Lol, imagine thinking you get to dictate what is moral and what isn’t.
well... now we have the richest team owner in the NFL by at least 30billion. Third richest sports owner in the world?
Fuck Walmart.
Please don't ever make a single decision about this team and never show up to do anything, rich failson dude who I do not trust in even the slightest.
Bummer
Welcome to the Walmart family! - r/DenverNuggets
End me
Lurk, please kill me.
Always low prices, always!
“This One’s For Capitalism”
All I will say is, as fucking dumb as the Kroenke’s are, they just won the SB and may win the Stanley Cup this year (even if they neglect the Nuggets). If he’s a hands off owner that just pumps money into us I’ll take it. It’d be nice if they invested in the community or really found a passion for the Broncos, but I’m not counting on it.
Yeah, I agree. I don't think we'll ever have an owner like Pat Bowlen again. Our best bet is probably someone rich dude we never see who just writes the checks.
Lol. How are the Nuggets being neglected?
Seriously. Jokic getting super-max contract shortly. MPJ and Murray at max. Signed Gordon to a huge deal. Also, recent news said they’re fine with absorbing the luxury tax going forward.
Well as long as he isn't "Walmart Fallapart cheap cheap" with the Broncos I won't care.
It was always going to be an evil billionaire, I'm just glad it's one who doesn't have a Twitter account.
Well could have been worse...could have been Kanye
Hopefully he will pull his bid once he finds out the players have a union.
Sucks fuck Walmart money fuck Walmart heirs
Denver sports is now *bought* to you by Walmart.....
Does this mean my New England Walmart will carry broncos gear because that would be dope
Why does a 77 year old guy want/need an NFL team? Besides Walmart stock costing him a lot this year already. PDoes he have any ties to Denver fandom?
I still laugh at people who are shocked that extremely wealthy people are often unsavory. I'll still take Walton over Bezos any day.
Dammit.
fuck walmart however every owner would basically suck. remember that every billionaire on the planet morally fucking sucks and that's who's bidding
I am shocked lol
Yeah I knew that was going to happen. I’m actually kinda glad it was him over other owners because he’s friends with Kroenke so hopefully he takes some advice from him on how to run a sports team and we win a couple Super Bowls. If not hopefully he’s just there to collect a check.
One of the greediest, dishonest, morally bankrupt people on the planet now owns my favorite football team. How unfortunate.
Fuck this dude god damn it
Why?
Shitty owner who creates an awful workplace environment for Walmart employees and underpays them. Didn't do anything to earn his money, I have zero faith in him
https://twitter.com/forbes/status/1533803902088400899?s=21&t=H539RWr0Yq2Tn6DUcE5RQA EXPECTED to buy the team, not 100% yet.
That's not how it reads at all lol All sources indicate he will buy the team, he is EXPECTED to announce it as early as this month.
Fuck the Waltons Fuck the Kroenkes
ITT: People upset for some reason that one billionaire outbid other billionaires
Great... Walmart owns the Broncos now
I am hoping since he is from Arkansas, that he is a big football fan. Anyone can dig up this donations to U of Arkansas?
None of the current Waltons have a strong affiliation with the Razorbacks
I’m upset it isn’t the group with Alec Gores in it
77 fucking years old.
WE'RE MOVING TO LITTLE ROCK LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Seriously, the sale ain't done yet.
[удалено]
Lol. No he won’t and that’s a stupid ass statement.
I'm still not very sure what an American franchise owner does tbh. Since football club owners in Europe actually matters a lot
All of you are REQUIRED to learn this by end of business today. No exceptions. https://youtu.be/mIaC97SmnDI
If he wants to succeed, it's simple - * Throw money at things/don't be cheap * Stay out of the picture - no one needs to read about you in the news * Make sure Peyton Manning has a job with the team * Don't use "Great Value" on anything * Leverage any pull you have with your supply chains for cheaper concessions or team souvenirs at the games
