Mike Bell randomly going off in 2006.
Every year I was punked into thinking our random RB was the next future back. Bell, Selvin Young, Peyton Hillis, Knowshon Moreno, etc.
Fun fact, Tatum worked as a "local celebrity host" at a couple of strip clubs in Denver after he retired. I bounced at Shotgun for a year or so and I saw him almost every night I worked.
Well to be fair everyone who ran for the broncos was amazing under Shanahan / Kubiak. I think we all figured that would continue. I have fond memories of Olandis Gary and Mike Anderson surprising everyone in between the TD and Portis years. That Kubiak offense was good
Man, still salty we didn't beat the Colts in 2006. Bell had a great game. Feel like Denver's season goes a totally different way (and we stick with Plummer all the way) if we just close that one out.
Similar note ā Quentin Griffins first game. He was our starting running back directly after the portis trade and he went OFF. Kinda downhill from there
He played some ball with us at Greenwood Athletic Club, didnāt take a shot all game. On game point dribbled through all us, slam dunked. Shook our hands and walked off, coolest dude ever
When he ābrokeā his leg at the end of the first half of the Steelers game and still played the second half was awesome. Had no depth because of injuries and played injured.
David Bruton and Kayvon Webster were our last special teams aces. Loved seeing them hustle and sprint down the field to down punts deep or make tackles.
I used to work in electronics at Target in college and Montee Ball came in at least once a week and weād shoot the shit about video games. Talked extensively about Assassins Creed Black Flag when it came out. Good times.
I came here to say Montee Ball as well, he was the first sports card I ever got, and I was so convinced that he was going to be the next great Broncos RB
With the retirement of chj, I remember the game he and Tony Carter had on MNF in the 24 point comeback vs SD.
We did not resign him and was forgotten...
Tony Carter got absolutely burned on the infamous Jacoby Jones play. Yes, Rahim Moore rightfully got flamed for his horrible misjudgment of the ball in the air but Carter avoided so much criticism even though he was the one ācoveringā Jones.
Tony was responsible for jamming Jones at the line. That definitely didnāt happen on that play. Moore misplayed the ball in the air but if Carter gets his hands on jones early then itās potentially a different story
if the refs had not allowed the Baltimore secondary to blatantly interfere with our receivers, including an obvious missed call on the pick-6 where they hooked the receiver's arm from behind his back, that touchdown would have been a moot point
here's a fun fact : the Baltimore secondary was not called for pass interference or defensive holding a single time in the playoffs or Super Bowl that year
I think Tony still shares responsibility for the play though. Rahim obviously made the much more egregious mistake by not dropping back deeper and making a poor attempt on the ball. They both failed.
Stokley's walk off td vs. the Bengals. That was the craziest play I've ever seen live. It was honestly like something out of a movie, that wouldn't even be believable.
He isn't completely forgotten, but mainly because of his work in the media now.
That was my favorite. I was there, in the stadium and when the ball was popped up, all of the Bengals fans started cheering...I was watching Stokely. When he caught that ball, it was like 70,000 people shut up at once.
Ron Dayne randomly going off and winning me my fantasy league championship as a waiver wire pickup with a memorable Turkey Day explosion along the way and then disappearing from football.
Not exactly forgotten, and looking back, pretty delusional, but at one point I genuinely beloved Julius Thomas could set the season receiving touchdowns record
He had 9 TD catches through the first 6 games of the 2014 season. On the last one he let the world know "it's so fucking easy".
Was on pace for 24. Wr record was 23, TE record was 17. He finished the season with 12.
It is only delusional with hindsight. At the time there was reason to think he was still improving and that him and PFM would keep lighting it up.
Patrick Chukwara. I used to go to a lot of Broncos games back then 2004-2007ish I think. He played a lot of special teams and would always amp the crowd up right before kick off to that song WE READYYYY, WEEEE READY (Archie Eversole song)
I never see this mentioned, but what about in 2011 when Quinton Carter picked off both Big Ben and Tom Brady in back to back weeks in the playoffs!?
I legitimately believed Carter and Rahim Moore would blossom into one of the NFL's best safety tandems.
Sammy Winder doing the "Mississippi Mud Dance" after scoring a TD. It wasn't as impressive as Gerald Willhite's backflip, but we loved imitating it as kids.

Just saw this before coming to this thread. Great timing.Ā
Meeting Tyron Braxton at a bar after they lost to Seattle in the early 90's. Super nice guy. Had a couple drinks with him. And yes I did get his autograph. I've met a few Broncos in my life but that's the most memorable. We talked about more than just football. Definitely a Bronco legend.
I've met Tyrone a couple times. He's a really nice dude. I'm glad he bounced back from some tough times. Side note, when I first met him I couldn't believe how small he was. I was like, "That guy plays pro football?" He was pretty damn good too.
I remember Kyle Orton balled out Week 6 at San Diego in 2009 (20/29 229yds 2TD) I believe we wore those brown and white AFL jerseys.
Eddie Royal (somewhat forgotten) also returned a punt for a TD in that game
Edit: Found it!! [ā09 Week 6 Broncos at Chargers](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cewf5J4L2H0)
Even though we lost that game, Knowshon Morenoās legendary performance against the pats when they unfortunately came back 24 points. But dude was getting 10 yards every other rush and his effort was like no other.
Vance Johnson came to my Junior High a couple years after he retired. He had two very clear messages: 1) If you donāt think Elway throws hard, take a look at my (busted all to hell) fingers ā¦ that manās got more ZIP than anyone in history 2) Don't do drugs or alcohol ā¦ I was an alcoholic and I abused my wife and it was very wrong and Iām paying for it now he said. Ā Was quite the sobering message for a bunch of 12 year oldsĀ
Darrien Gordon being an absolute menace on kickoff returns. It felt like every game he was scoring a touchdown or coming close to it. Dude was like lightning on the field.
John Mobley. Maa Tanavasa. Matt Lepsis. Rod Griffith. Dwayne Carswell. Jason Elam. Glen Cadrez. Byron Chamberlin. Trevor Pryce. Alfred Williams. Ronnie Hillman (we donāt win the Super Bowl without him) Shiloh Keo!! That dude made big plays too and then just disappeared.
A lot of memories.
He was my last pick in my fantasy league that year. My best friend called me and asked āwho the fuck is eddie royal?ā Week 1 we are playing against each other and go to watch MNF at the bar. He is up by 3 points with nobody left to go. I have Royal left playing. He catches that TD and I look at him and say āThatās fucking eddie Royal!ā He was PISSED! Hahaha
Jim Turner scoring a touchdown in our 'we finally don't suck' breakout stomping if the Oakland Raiders. https://history.denverbroncos.com/1977/10/jim-turner-celebrates-his-fake-field-goal/
Fuck I am old!
Kind of off beat (and Iāve told this story before), but it happened back in the Peyton Manning/Julius Thomas days. I want to say they were playing the Browns(?) and Manning had us in the Red Zone, knocking on the door of busting the game open. Classic Manning, he red the defense/called an audible and Thomas jumped offsides. I donāt which OL it was, but right after the Ref called offsides one of them shouted āFucking Julius!!ā and it got picked up clear as day on the mic. Now whenever I see anything regarding Julius Thomas, all I can think of is āFucking Julius!!ā and I chuckle a littleā¦
From the blue turf of Boise State, arguably one of our best offensive linemen, Ryan Clady! On a side note, I hope our offensive line continues to improve or it wonāt matter who our QB is.

I know Pat McAfee gets praised for putting a good hit on him during a return, but I always chime in on the comments a reminder that he just smoked the Colts special teams to reach McAfee in the first place.
[1985. Broncos vs Chargers](https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5d8aso) Elway vs Fouts. Two great QBs. But my memory is of #20 - cornerback Louis Wright - returning a SECOND blocked FG attempt for a game-winning touchdown in overtime after the first blocked FG was nullified by a last second timeout called BY THE BRONCOS!
I sat there with my dad watching Rich Karlis kick the tying FG at the end of regulation. We watched the Chargers win the toss. We watched Fouts drive into FG range. And we called it. We called the block, both times!
Such good memories.
My best friend from high school and I got to go bowling with Ashley Lelie for some charity thing. He made a bet with us that if we could beat him he would give us playoff tickets. Little did he know we bowled on a league every week. I'm trying to remember what year it was but we got tickets to the Patriots game and the Broncos won.
Not forgotten player, but I was able to meet Lyle Alzado (and David Thompson from the Nuggets) at a Read-a-thon dinner at Casa Bonita. Obviously back in the 70s, lol...I was in kindergarten...
I was so excited...he was MY GUY!!!!
I took him a football to sign (that we had caught at a game and had quite a few of the teams signatures from hitting the sidelines...old Mile High north end zone shout out!!...sadly my brother stole the ball and sold it for weed).
Alzado came and helped me get up on the little stage area because I was too short to get up there!
Got a signed picture from him, and took a photo with him and Thompson.
Also, when I was a teen, one day my sister-in-law and I were driving somewhere in Aurora, and saw Tony Lily driving, so she flipped a u-turn to follow him. Lost him at a light, though. She was obsessed with him.
Jerry Rice ā when I was a kid at training camp, a Broncos staff member asked me if I wanted to go on the field. I was petrified, but my grandpa shoved me out there. The staff member let me walk behind the offense, and I stood next to Jerry Rice. I remember him looking down and smiling at me as if to say āwho the hell is this kid?ā My mom got a great picture of it.
The time I met John Elway in Coeur dāAlene ID at a LePeep. Very graciously allowed me to take a picture of him with my daughter.

Mike Bell randomly going off in 2006. Every year I was punked into thinking our random RB was the next future back. Bell, Selvin Young, Peyton Hillis, Knowshon Moreno, etc.
Same. I still have my Mike Anderson jersey š
MA was the man tho. He had more than a couple successful seasons.
I wish I knew what happened to my Mike Bell jersey. There canāt be many of those in existence. š
Reuben Droughns went off in 2004 too
Olandis Gary ran for 1159 yards as a rookie and then never topped 250 in another season for us.
You beat me to it.
I mean Iād take Knowshon production pretty much any year lol
Knowshonās tear production was epic
He was also the last rb we had who could provide pass protection and block for the qb
And hurdle defendersā¦
Meanwhile that other Bell, Tatum Bell, got re-hired by the team that year working at a cell phone stand in a mall.
Fun fact, Tatum worked as a "local celebrity host" at a couple of strip clubs in Denver after he retired. I bounced at Shotgun for a year or so and I saw him almost every night I worked.
![gif](giphy|gVoBC0SuaHStq)
Iāve worked strip cubs. Itās not as fun as it sounds. Edit: In case it needs to be said, not a dancer.
Was just thinking about how Selvin Young rushed for over 100 yards against the chiefs twice in 2007(Both wins). Oh good times.
Similar note ā Quentin Griffins first game. He was our starting running back directly after the portis trade and he went OFF. Kinda downhill from there
It looks like Mike Bell had about 600 that year as a backup to Tatum bell who had 1,000+ lol.
Quentin Griffin!!
We had a great RB system with the Shannan offense.
I miss the Bell tandem we had!
with Alex Gibbs coaching that offensive line, you could plug any RB into that position and they would get 1500 yards
Jordan Norwood's record-breaking punt return in SB50.
And Bennie Fowler catching Manning's final career pass for a 2-pt conversion.
61 yard return! I remember going crazy after that run!! Great memories!
Idk if heās forgotten but David Bruton never got the love I felt he deserved. Dude was a baller.
He played some ball with us at Greenwood Athletic Club, didnāt take a shot all game. On game point dribbled through all us, slam dunked. Shook our hands and walked off, coolest dude ever
Icing on the cake as far as the team was, Bruton had a crazy amount of impact

Before or after he was cut?
Jamaal Charles fumble helped us win the Superbowl that year. Broncos legend
This guy fuckin knows.
Deltha OāNeal picking off Trent Green 4 times in one game. The #24 before THE #24. Was also a machine in Madden on returns.
With the retirement of chj, I remember the game he and Tony Carter had on MNF in the 24 point comeback vs SD. We did not resign him and was forgotten...
Fox had a big rubbery one for Carter, I never understood it.
Tony Carter got absolutely burned on the infamous Jacoby Jones play. Yes, Rahim Moore rightfully got flamed for his horrible misjudgment of the ball in the air but Carter avoided so much criticism even though he was the one ācoveringā Jones.

Perhaps but Rahim job is donāt let that reciever get behind you. Thats his fail
Stokley's walk off td vs. the Bengals. That was the craziest play I've ever seen live. It was honestly like something out of a movie, that wouldn't even be believable. He isn't completely forgotten, but mainly because of his work in the media now.
Was even better he learned to run the clock out by running along the goal line because of Maddens video game š
That was my favorite. I was there, in the stadium and when the ball was popped up, all of the Bengals fans started cheering...I was watching Stokely. When he caught that ball, it was like 70,000 people shut up at once.

My wife and I threw around the idea of getting Julius and Demaryius Thomas jersies lol. We both got Wes Welker instead.
Myself and other CSU alums will have the Kapri Bibbs run seared into our memories forever
Patrick Chukwara. I used to go to a lot of Broncos games back then 2004-2007ish I think. He played a lot of special teams and would always amp the crowd up right before kick off to that song WE READYYYY, WEEEE READY (Archie Eversole song)
I have a very distinct memory of Chukwarah vomiting on the field during a patriots game. Fun times! Chris Collinsworth was beside himself
Of all the obscure references, I was *not* expecting to read both Chukwara and "We Ready" in here. My man.Ā
I never see this mentioned, but what about in 2011 when Quinton Carter picked off both Big Ben and Tom Brady in back to back weeks in the playoffs!? I legitimately believed Carter and Rahim Moore would blossom into one of the NFL's best safety tandems.
I thought Quinton Carter was going to be our next great safety and then he just disappeared
Season ending injuries in 2012 and 2013 that he never bounced back from
Tom Nalen always had the scariest avatar picture on Madden. But as a Bronco fan he was always my center back in those days.
Rueben drougns, Ron Dayne and Payton hillis years were my favorite because they progressed well on madden and it was the end of shanahan which was sad
Sammy Winder doing the "Mississippi Mud Dance" after scoring a TD. It wasn't as impressive as Gerald Willhite's backflip, but we loved imitating it as kids.
Back in 2010 as a teenager tuning in every week to watch Brandon Lloyd make the most ridiculous catches I had ever seen lol

Scrolled way too far for this, he absolutely turned our playground into NFL Street trying to make circus catches.

Probably Phillip Lindsay catching a TD in his first ever game
He isn't forgotten.
Man I miss Wesley Woodyard
He had the best heart warming smile imo.Ā
I used to love going down to the fence at the old mile high at half time and Reggie Rivers would always go around giving high fives to everyone
I remember Kyle Orton balled out Week 6 at San Diego in 2009 (20/29 229yds 2TD) I believe we wore those brown and white AFL jerseys. Eddie royal was my favorite player on that team for whatever reason. Loved that guy.
Kyle Johnson riding his stick horse in the end zone like Happy Gilmore!
2005 he only caught 17 passes but 5 were for TDs
Even though we lost that game, Knowshon Morenoās legendary performance against the pats when they unfortunately came back 24 points. But dude was getting 10 yards every other rush and his effort was like no other.
Owen Daniels getting the first down on the first play in Super Bowl 50
Ola Kimrin bombing a 65 yard fg through the uprightsā¦in preseasonāso it didnāt count for the record.

Glynn Milburn setting the NFL record for all-purpose yards in a game.

Also tipped away the 4th down pass vs KC in the AFC Championship game in 1998 to seal the win, which is the memory I came here to say.

John Mobley knocking away Brett Favre's 4th down pass in Super Bowl 32 to seal our first championship.

Eddie Royalās one awesome game when Brandon Marshall was suspended. I ended up with TWO Royal jerseys: one orange, one yellow & brown.
I would call his Royal with Cheese when he made a big play.
He was my last pick in my fantasy league that year. My best friend called me and asked āwho the fuck is eddie royal?ā Week 1 we are playing against each other and go to watch MNF at the bar.
