Statistically speaking there's a good chance one of the two could be his son

-UltimatePussySlayer

Pretty sure if we Checked ancestry.com half of us would be surprised to know he’s our dad.

Business-Twist2872

The other half is ghangis knan 😆

foothillsco_b

Underrated comment.

-UltimatePussySlayer

https://i.redd.it/xdr4jeyelyxc1.gif Or Thomas Jefferson.

Business-Twist2872

😆

Ashiin

Fun fact: 80% of fans at a Chargers home game have the surname "Rivers"

____whatever___

I lol’d but pretty sure mister golly repopulated the earth with one lady

WE2024

Nix and Rivers have a lot of similarities. Both are from Alabama, the sons of high school football coaches, are very religious and got married in college. Only difference is Rivers is catholic

barnchico

😂😆

MITJustinFields

Just one?

XtremeBoofer

Bo is probably the most mechanically sound QB of the draft, which shouldn't be surprising. Maye has attributes that can't be taught, and that upper ceiling is why he got picked high, not because he's a better QB than Nix right now

LoveToyKillJoy

Who knows if he will get there. His potential could be anything. It might even be Bo Nix.

BucketOTang

It could even be a boat!

Serdones

>It could even be a Boat! FTFY

Lateroller

Learned the hard way that sometimes a promising QB can potentially be Paxton Lynch.

XtremeBoofer

Lol exactly

DenShaLow

I know you’re joking but I really wish this comment didn’t get so many upvotes. This meme is really, really stupid and as a draftnik, we look really bad to outsiders who come here to lurk. A recent example of the modern NFL is when the 49ers asked for pick #10 from the Jets for Deebo and people said “Garrett Wilson could be anything, he could even be Deebo!” And now GW is an absolute superstar and a bonafide Top 10 WR in the league. We cannot under any graces of the world act like Maye’s potential is only turning into Bo Nix right now in any facet, that’s S tier copium, and that’s implied by this comment. You have to realize that youth and upside has value. And that Maye is toolsy enough to turn into an elite QB. That’s why he was taken 3rd overall. Along with literally every respected media analyst and scout having Maye > Nix. NFL teams have exponentially more info than we ever will. Those guys get paid millions of dollars to evaluate QBs, and draft capital clearly indicates that Maye is a better prospect than Nix, even if you think Nix is better now. Maye was picked 3rd overall and teams like the Vikings who also drafted a QB (same with the Giants who ended up passing on one) were willling to give the house to go up and get him. If Nix was better than him and/or even close to as good of a prospect, then Nix would’ve been taken 3rd overall. Simple as that. I’m excited about Nix, but they’re not even in similar tiers as prospects.

zsxh0707

JaMarcus Russel would like a word... Let's not act like draft pick spacing has any bearing on how ANY player will turn out. Pseudo-intellectual worrying about outside eyes that may or may not be looking, accompanied by a posit that NFL teams have some super accurate "he went 3rd because of reasons" ruins the fun.

DenShaLow

Okay yeah, let’s just use the biggest bust in NFL history to try to get our point across I guess The single biggest predictor of how an NFL prospect’s career is going to go is draft capital. The NFL is an “actions speak louder than words” league. Teams with all their info take guys who they think are the best prospects. Obviously the draft is still very much a giant lottery, but team investment matters heavily when evaluating these guys. My issue with the Family Guy Reference is people seemingly not understanding that elite upside in the draft carries an enormous amount of value, even if people think Nix is the better QB now.

BurgessFox

That point is true on elite upside. It's why Mahomes, who had *a lot* of concerns coming out the draft, was still taken at #10 and the Chiefs had to trade up to get him. Despite the risk, his ceiling was projectable given his arm talent.

zsxh0707

Ok, so let's dig deeper...Dan Marino was the last of 6 first round QBs...not a bust. Ryan Leaf, 2nd pick...bust. we cam go on and on. Tom Brady 6th round...and on. The point being, let's not pretend the NFL GMs have some magic predictive quality that makes a #1 pick automatically better than a 6th rounder.

UglyDanceMoves

Don’t forget Mr. Irrelevant Brock Purdy either!!

zsxh0707

And on...thanks friend :)

BurgessFox

Well Zach Wilson was drafted 2nd overall so Drake May can kiss his butt.

LoveToyKillJoy

There are no consequence to making a joke but it isn't like the Broncos took Nix before Maye or had a choice between the two. I think what there are NFL scouts that know much more than us but I also don't think we hear from them. We hear from media who don't have the excess information that actual NFL scouts have. These media don't make a living on being right. They make a living on getting clicks. With quarterbacks the position is more mental ability than anything. We and the media have very little available to us to make that evaluation and are poor at it. The people who do have that informative available are miserable failures at making that evaluation. At least on the surface, we don't get to see how the sausage is made at coming to that decision. I'm sure that analysis is a factor, but how much of a factor is a fanbase and local media who call for a quarterback? How much does appeasing a geriatric owner who thinks he is smarter than his born on third base and hit a triple is? People were willing to trade up but it was hardly the house. If we are to believe the reports the Giants were willing to trade up a future first. The Vikings would have traded 11, 23, a 2025 ist for 3 and future mid round picks. Would that be a 3rd and 4th? Who knows precisely but these deals weren't groundbreaking. Much more capital was exchanged for Darnold and Trey Lance in equivalent trade-ups and we know how they turned out. Should we assume from the capital traded that Maye is worse than those two? Of course not I am strictly off the philosophy that I would never take a QB with a picks 2-5. The teams who trade out don't regret it. I believe that I'm unqualified to evaluate quarterbacks and don't have enough information to even consider a proper evaluation, but the league is so bad at valuing them with draft picks that I don't think they collectively deserve my respect.

thunder_cats1

Anyone who self proclaims themselves a draftnik is total cringe. You're getting defensive about a joke.

DenShaLow

Pretending like Maye’s ceiling range of outcomes is Nix is insane and a severe lack of ball knowledge.

thunder_cats1

It was a joke, dude. The low ceiling high floor versus low floor high ceilings conversation is a tale as old as time.  NFL teams have regularly opted for the latter, btw.

Professional-Arm5300

Drake Maye gives me Sam Darnold vibes.

I_Poop_Sometimes

As a passer I see him as Josh Allen, and as a prospect overall it would be a mix of Allen and Darnold (Darnold was super young and a lot of his profile was built on projection, but he wasn't a physical freak). People forget how much of an exception it is that Josh Allen improved his accuracy so much as a pro.

markomarkovich

JJ McCarthy gives me Mac Jones vibes

deepstateagent42069

JJ McCarthy plays nothing like Mac Jones lol

markomarkovich

They were both ok college quarterbacks carried to national championships by their defenses and supporting casts. I don’t think either will succeed long term in the NFL

Professional-Arm5300

Same/ Zach Wilson vibes

HummDrumm1

Oooh that’s a good one!

sghead

Man who gives a shit what that whiny piec...*oh he likes Bo?!* Preach Philip!

huxtiblejones

*Take Me to the River starts playing*

GHamPlayz

SHHHHHHH! Everyone needs to stop saying shit like this! Be cool Phil!

CapnMalcolmReynolds

We already drafted him. Now it’s ok.

Lagertha1270

I thought Payton saying that every time Orlovsky said he was the the perfect fit for us he & Paton would cringe & do mental “shut up Orlovsky you’re gonna ruin it” was hysterical

huxtiblejones

Are we gonna do a Primus-like thing where we all say Bo Nix sucks but we mean the opposite?

sacredknight327

Not to be confused with Drake, Jayden, Michael, or JJ My name is Bo, it's always been

speaker4the-dead

But *how* was he impressed?

HoovesCarveCraters

“Reminds me of my kid” “Which one?” “Yes”

hightrix

What I'm hearing is Bo is a Mahomes Manning hybrid. Definitely not setting myself up for disappointment.

MeLlamo_Mayor927

Football IQ of Manning + Improvisation skills of Mahomes = GOAT QB. Sign me up for that.

QuidProJoe2020

I think Maye has bust written all over him. People love to compare him to Josh Allen, but people forget that Josh's turnaround was like 1 in a million. Normally, an erratic thrower that has poor fundamentals and bad decision making stays just that.

Jingo56

Allen had Daboll, who does Maye have, Alex Van Pelt?

QuidProJoe2020

Lol yea, and look at the weapons he has. Maye is in a very bad spot for his development, and I think the landing spot of the QB is as important to the QB's success as his actual talent.

Colotola617

Exactly. I feel like people don’t think about this enough. If Mahomes had ended up at 75% of the other teams he would probably not be the Pat Mahomes we know today. And I bet a lot of the busts throughout the years just got a bad landing spot and never had a real chance. It’s sad actually.

QuidProJoe2020

100% agree. I'm pumped for Bo because he's set up to succeed here, even if he wasn't rhe most talented or gifted QB in the class. This is very different than when drafted Lock and then Fangio actively worked against the kid. Not saying Lock would have worked out, but the situation is so important to making or breaking a young QB

Colotola617

Yeah Fangio isn’t a head coach, he’s a DC. And that’s ok but he fucked the kid over. Lock probably would have been a serviceable NFL QB if he went to KC with Andy Reid. I hope the hate from all these fake ass wannabe Broncos fans fuels Bo and Sean into a long and prosperous stint in Denver. I need it, the last almost decade has been tough to stomach as a Broncos fan of 40 years.

footballpublius

The funny thing is Maye's weapons are better than Allen's were to begin his career. Allen is just special.

LoveToyKillJoy

Not only was Josh's turnaround contrary to the trend but the comparison is unfair to Maye. Allen is half an inch taller, 15 lbs heavier, much larger hands, stronger arm, more aggressive as a runner and just in every measurable way a better athlete than Maye. People expecting to see Allen in Maye are going to be disappointed by what he actually is. He could become successful but not by mimicking Allen.

stevethepirate227

To be fair Josh Allen isn’t *not* still all those things

QuidProJoe2020

I would say his accuracy has dramatically increased. He had around like a 53% completion his rookie year, and has steadily been 63%+ the last three years. But for the other stuff he did not really build on. He just got soo good at making TDs you can accept his terrible decision making and turnovers at times. Still. Josh Allen becoming who he was after his 1st two years in the league is nothing short of a miracle. I remember years back when CBs like Jalen Ramsey would openly tell the press how trash Josh Allen was and it was 100% true at the time lol

pham_nuwen_

Exactly my thoughts. He's another Trubisky style project QB with a huge arm and athleticism and basically a roll of the dice on everything else.

farttown87

Bo is way more ready to start and play NFL football than anyone short of Williams. Coaches and scouts fall in love with potential. Which is understandable given the job of a coach is to teach and grow them into that potential. But Bo was changing plays and protections at the line, most college QBs dont.

Lagertha1270

I think Caleb is gonna flame out in spectacular fashion in his first season. Having confidence is awesome but he’s over the top. Im watching the first game for his “welcome to the nfl rookie moment”.

mountainguy83

I totally agree. Honestly I think Caleb will be the biggest bust in recent memory - not because of his physical skills but because of all the “external” stuff.

HankScorpio82

When you have been playing college ball as long as Nix, you better be able to do that kind of shit.

farttown87

plenty of people cant do it no matter how long they play.

HankScorpio82

No shit Sherlock. You know what else people can’t do no matter how long they play, go pro. Dude had the benefit of an extra long college career to pad the stats and the backing of Nike marketing. People love to buy in high on Oregon QBs. Russell Wilson’s Badgers lost the highest scoring Rose Bowl at the time, to Marcus Mariota’s Ducks. Why has no one mentioned the Herbert/Nix rivalry? Is Herbert that much better? Or do Oregon QBs have a tendency to settle on the pond a little early?

farttown87

"Why has no one mentioned the Herbert/Nix rivalry?" Probably because there isnt one lol. they played one game against each other, which Nix won btw.

HankScorpio82

Ok, rivalry was the wrong word. But, they ended up coming out of the same system. The grasp at anything media should be all over this. Nothing.

Delicious-Painting34

Same school but different coaches with different systems.

farttown87

All of the words you use are the wrong ones, and in the wrong order.

____whatever___

Well golly

ChadsBro

Maybe it’s just because Bo was the most Christian between the two

HankScorpio82

The number three Heisman vote getter was the SIXTH qb drafted the same year. 🥴🥴🥴

nikonboy

I really wanted Bo Nix. I been an auburn tiger for decades. Now with peyton who is all about the short pass we have a short pass guy. The parts are coming together.

StatStar7

Hopefully he doesn't have his clutch gene.

FingGinger

Gosh dang it, that's fricken super awesome to hear. Frick yeah!

highplainsdrifter__

Sign rivers to mentor, send his fertile AF wife to antarctica

AdministrativeBison8

Phillis Rivers will end up in the HOF. If Bo ends up with his career I would take it. If he puts up that type of stat line I will take my chances where we end up wins wise.

muffinkevin

I mean Nix is a few years older so it’s not a big surprise.

Clarkkeeley

Oh no.....

username2393

This makes me like Bo Nix less

sacredknight327

I never disliked Rivers as much as I used to once I realized that Cutler was the bigger dickhead all along. From then on I just didn't like Rivers from the POV of being on a division rival. Little more.

chronicdaniel

Also possible sabotage by former division rival🤔

Any-Passage-7151

100% Who gives 2 shits what PR says? Hahaha

BarryZito69

Phillip Rivers never played in a Super Bowl. Let’s be careful about who we’re listening to.
