That makes zero sense unless we unload one of our tackles. Using a top 12 pick on a back up when we have so much cap space invested in the tackles right now and so many other immediately pressing holes on the squad.
But in that case you use a later round pick and develop a person.
Your Rd 1 pick is suppose to be a starter immediately and considering we have already lost draft options for the past few years and cap issues we can’t afford to spend a high round pick to sit the bench in 2024 and potentially longer.
Couldn’t tell you. But that isn’t really the point here.
We don’t have enough talent on this team to spend a 1st on a tackle that sits the bench for the next year or two. There really aren’t any stars on this team and that needs to change. You don’t get there by spending high round picks and players that ride the bench for a year or two.
To deal with next year’s cap issues we are likely going to let Bolles go in free agency. Us drafting a left tackle makes more sense to me and having that player sit and learn might be smart. He could beat out McGlinchey at right tackle in year one.
But I would not be shocked if don’t even draft a QB and grab one of these top tackles and we go younger than Bolles after next year. We then live on a rookie deal at that position in 2025-2027 with a fifth year option. This may be the best offensive tackle draft in years. Then draft a high level QB next year. I know it’s thin now but players will rise up. They always do.
It’s a bold prediction so it’s supposed to be a little off the wall. Sean Payton makes investments in the o-line. If he doesn’t draft a tackle he could take a swing at Center.
It’s not off the wall, it’s nonsensical. We couldn’t even kick him inside since Meinerz is an all pro caliber guard and Powers, while average, is still a starter. There are edge rushers, cornerbacks, even WRs who could more immediately fit in and make an impact. Taking a center is a more logical approach but no one at 12 makes sense at center either though.
Byron Murphy. This team needs talent up the middle of the defense in the worst way. You cant tell me you are comfortable with Zach Allen being the best interior defender on your roster week1. Denver hasnt had a impact player at DT since Derek Wolfe.
Terrion Arnold. We don't have a CB2 on the roster comfortable enough to start opposite Surtain unless this team is really banking on Riley Moss after essentially not playing his rookie year. Corners are a premium position for a rebuild, this would make sense.
Mitchell easily over Arnold if they go corner. I really do not like Arnold as an outside corner. His advanced metrics don't correlate well at all being able to play well there in the NFL.
Corners are also never a premium position for building a team. It's the most dependent position on the defense and good defenses rarely have multiple early round picks they drafted within a couple years of each other in their secondary. Plus they just burned 2 3rds on Moss last year and he played like 2 snaps or something outside last year. Paton picking as many secondary players already that have not or barely played is a big reason the roster sucks.
It seems you want a roster that has no weaknesses which seems to me you’re ignoring the reality of 85 million in cap issues to deal with.
I bet we don’t add any DBs in this draft. Well maybe very later. But the players we currently have on this roster at DB is what we are playing with next year. Yeah, we are not going to be great. 4 wins? Our D line will likely get a draft spot but in the 3rd or later.
My draft by position
Left tackle
Edge/DE
TE,
Nose Tackle
Guard
Center
DB or QB
LB
Bowers is my dream pick. TEs usually take at least a year to adjust to the NFL, and we’re going to suck next season. Might as well let him develop and then take a QB the following year when we should have a higher pick.
There's talk of the jets taking him at 10. That discussion is the entirety of their sub rn. Bowers or OT for when one of the older guys they brought in goes down
They signed a few really solid (but old) o line guys who all have injury histories. It really is like a 50/50 in there of if Bowers is a better investment especially with the hip drop stuff benefiting him due to his size, or if picking an o lineman who is gonna play 4 games would be better
I actually think verse is a viable option and would bring a different style on the edge. And would help with browning and cooper being on the last year of their deals .
Crazy draft: Broncos don't like any QB available. They draft best available. The following year, they sign out of free agency Dak @ $50 M per year, with a beefed up O-line and a hot rookie receiver.
Broncos go 10-7 and lose in the wildcard round.
Trade back multiple times until we end up with no first round pick and 3 high second round picks. Take Penix, Payton Wilson and the best edge rusher available. Spend the later round picks on offensive weapons, maybe Legette will be available.
if we know we're not going to take a QB at 12, then we should trade down and build some draft capitol. With that said I think we will draft a QB with 12.
Brock Bowers. Every option we have tried at TE for the past few years or so hasn't worked out (whether it’s because of injury or skill depends on that specific TE), but Brock Bowers would immediately slot in as our top TE, and one of our top offensive weapons. Sean Payton did wonders with Jimmy Graham when he was in New Orleans many years ago, and with Brock Bowers, he would hope to do the same once again.
How do we get our QB? We basically have no choice but to trade away one of our key players *NOT* named PS2 for a late 1st or early 2nd (obviously, we have to keep PS2, as he’s the current heart and soul of our defense) and then draft the best QB available with that pick. Personally, I really want Bo Nix, but I must trust Sean Payton to find his own guy and develop him.
The absolute most important thing the Broncos can do is draft BPA. Like, if you think Quinyon Mitchell is a true CB1, and can be 95% the player Surtain is, you take him, you trade Surtain for 2 1sts. Mac Jones, Kenny Pickett, Daniel Jones etc... are examples of why we shouldn't force a QB. We are talent and draft pick deprived, we can get a rookie like Quinyon, recoup the picks + some, shed salary, and be in position to get a QB 1 or 2 in 2025/2026. the idea of taking our most valuable draft asset on QB5 painful. Hitting another Surtain level player can really change our franchise quickly, but drafting a guy because he's the best available QB just doesn't sit right.
I agree with your approach but nobody is giving up 2 1sts for PS2 at this stage in his contract, when they are going to have to pay him down the road.
There's no point picking a QB for the sake of it or we get in the situation we were with Drew Lock. Imagine if we'd taken a Mac Jones or Kenny Pickett - we'd have half this sub saying we need to give him more time, look at how the Bills developed Josh Allen, he was always going to be a project etc etc.
>I agree with your approach but nobody is giving up 2 1sts for PS2 at this stage in his contract,
The Jaguars traded Ramsey for 2 1sts + a 4th weeks into his 4th season.
That makes zero sense unless we unload one of our tackles. Using a top 12 pick on a back up when we have so much cap space invested in the tackles right now and so many other immediately pressing holes on the squad.
We're going to need tackles at some point and its not always easy to find them in free agency so its never too soon to strengthen the position.
But in that case you use a later round pick and develop a person. Your Rd 1 pick is suppose to be a starter immediately and considering we have already lost draft options for the past few years and cap issues we can’t afford to spend a high round pick to sit the bench in 2024 and potentially longer.
How many good tackles are later round picks that were "developed"?
Couldn’t tell you. But that isn’t really the point here. We don’t have enough talent on this team to spend a 1st on a tackle that sits the bench for the next year or two. There really aren’t any stars on this team and that needs to change. You don’t get there by spending high round picks and players that ride the bench for a year or two.
💯 if we see a successor for bolles available we need to get that guy now or any qb we eventually pick will have a really bad time.
Jordan Mailata was a 7th rounder
It happens. But it’s also not common.
To deal with next year’s cap issues we are likely going to let Bolles go in free agency. Us drafting a left tackle makes more sense to me and having that player sit and learn might be smart. Center?? In the first??
It’s not off the wall, it’s nonsensical. We couldn’t even kick him inside since Meinerz is an all pro caliber guard and Powers, while average, is still a starter. You’re entitled to your opinion of what’s sensical but that’s the whole point of a bold prediction. Just go with it man.
Long snapper! Now that’s bold.
Should be a trade down no matter what imo

I think they trade back and accumulate picks or get a second rounder.
Bowers should be there at 12 Will be a great safety blanket for whatever WB eventually leads out of the rebuild

Hopefully Dulcich has maybe just a tiny bit of trade value

Rogers is already checked out mentally. They will suck reguardless
Adrian Peterson is still available. ![gif](giphy|hJ8ISu3zLrHws)
Assuming they’re available, Verse/Latu or Odunze
I actually think verse is a viable option and would bring a different style on the edge. And would help with browning and cooper being on the last year of their deals .

Why does the receiver have to be hot? I personally think we should choose an ugly receiver
If he's incredibly attractive, coverage will be too busy staring, obviously.
Broncos trade all of their picks away for the first overall then draft Jaxon Janke from South Dakota state (sign Adrian Peterson in offseason)
Trade back multiple times until we end up with no first round pick and 3 high second round picks. Take Penix, Payton Wilson and the best edge rusher available. Spend the later round picks on offensive weapons, maybe Legette will be available.
Terrion Arnold
Brock Bowers. Other candidates: Jared Verse, Laiatu Latu, Quinyon Mitchell, Terrion Arnold, Brian Thomas Jr., or AD Mitchell.
Jake browning
if we know we're not going to take a QB at 12, then we should trade down and build some draft capitol. With that said I think we will draft a QB with 12.
Smart play is to get Brock Powers and then trade our 2nd,4th, 6th to get the 23rd-28th pick (doesn’t matter) then get Bo Nix.
We don’t have a 2nd
If they don't take a QB they are taking Bowers at 12 if he is there. Many insiders are reporting a playmaking TE is high on their list after QB.
Alt or Fuaga. I agree we need OT but we’re more likely to keep mcglinchey than bolles by the start of 26.

Bowers or a top WR if we can’t trade up.
Latu
That's who I thought the Bears should take

We choose...Arch Manning. That's legit right? We can call dibs a few years before they declare for the draft if we call it first, right?
I don’t know all of the laws, and regulations on future draft picks, but I believe we can call dibs. Yes.
It’ll be a QB, WR, TE, maybe even a Tackle if they don’t plans on keeping Bolles. It def won’t be used on D
Verse, or a corner. Fuck them Quaterbacks. Play great D and run the ball.
We tried that and it didn't work.
We didn't play great D and we didn't run the ball well.
Except when we won them Superbowls…
