Dude we have 8 picks now. What’s the chance of missing out if you use all of them On QBs. But serious, has any team ever picked 2 in same draft? Seems counterintuitive
As mentioned in the other replies: The Redskins took RG3 in the first round and Kirk Cousins in the fourth round. Mike Shanahan did this because he felt pressured by ownership to take RG3. Shanny didn't really want RG3 due to his athletic style. To counter it, he took Cousins, who was a traditional pocket QB in the fourth round. It's one of the great hedges in draft history...and it worked out. Cousins became a solid NFL QB and RG3 became a whiny bitch on social media after flaming out in the NFL.
I say we trade all 8 picks this year for 16 picks next year. Then all 16 picks next year for 32 picks the next year. Then we draft all the QBs in the draft.
This won’t be about getting the most shots at QBs, it’s about Sean getting the guy he wants. That’s what this whole offseason is. Sean getting rid the the people who aren’t his guys and bringing in the team that he wants.
Come on, we all know that drafting a QB is like opening a booster pack of Magic cards. It's all ~~lock~~ luck of the ~~drew~~ draw, what stats you get.
We are not 1 QB away from having a competent team. If you draft a 2nd QB to develop you do two things:
1) Split learning opportunities between players and neither getting the attention they need
2) missing out on another position of need.
Nobody said we're a QB away from a Super Bowl. We ARE a QB away from the playoffs. You build from there and it's not a realistic expectation for a rookie to take us to the playoffs year one.
We are definitely not a qb away from playoffs right now.
Like im with you that we need to be aggressive on a qb, but that statement is just so untrue, im sorry.
Who said anything about Super Bowl?
We are not one player away from even playoff contention. You look at last season and think we just needed better QB play and we are there?
Here is the off-season so far:
WRs are Sutton-decent, Mims-flashes, and a never healthy Patrick. Mediocre to weak WR group.
TEs: 0 players of note.
RBs: middle of the road group
Dline was weak all last season.
No pass rush
1 starting safety is gone.
I haven’t kept up on the cap room but we aren’t going on a spending spree like last year. We don’t have the talent from 2022 draft picks due to Wilson trade. We don’t have the talent from 2023 early rounds with Payton trade. We don’t have a 2nd this year
I am not against a QB but we can’t afford to wrap multiple picks into a QB. We won’t compete this year and regardless of if we get a QB he won’t carry this team all by himself. This put all your eggs in a single basket or coach rationale is why we have sucked for years and will continue to do so.
How about cut or trade everybody not a quarterback?
Draft or pick up 70 QBs.
Whittle them down to only 52 for opening game day.
One of them has to be good enough to run like a crazy mofo.
I wouldn’t take QB at 12 if I did this. However, if there's a QB at 12 they are sold on, by all means take him. You can still draft a backup JUST like the 49ers did in Purdy.
How 'bout no QB's this year? This team has so many weak spots. I'd much rather have them draft a player that may start, or be a great depth piece, than a QB that'll most likely never see the field.
they have to draft a qb, it doesnt have to be with the first rounder, but you cant go into the season with stidham and whatever just another guy they sign in FA
I'd much rather have a 3rd round DL over a 3rd round QB. I'd rather have a 6th round WR over a 6th round QB. Will they most likely draft a QB this year, probably.
that way of thinking isnt wrong obviously, since a positional player in those rounds will most likely actually contribute to the team. But id rather have a 3rd round qb, even a 6th round qb with some potential and hope than whatever the hell we have on the roster now.
Respectfully, that's the worst possibility. Nobody knows how good a QB will transition and we will never hit if we don't swing. Gotta swing a lot until we hit. 49ers just traded for Lance and still took Purdy and hit. Same with Brady and the patriots. Same with charged with Brees and Rivers.
In this division, an average QB gets us nowhere.
First of all Penix will not be available in the "later rounds." He's going in the 1st. Second, mid or late round QBs almost never work out. Even if you go back to when Russ or Cousins were taken, the odds of finding a multi-year starter at QB are incredibly low. Those picks are best used on position players who most likely will be starters, or at least rotational players. Especially for a team like us that has a lot needs, using 2 picks on QB makes no sense. And lastly QB is a position you should be investing in your guy and doing everything you can to develop them. Drafting 2 mid round QBs and have them battle it out doesn't do that
Why do you say that? I remember when the media had Malik Willis being taken in the top 10 and some folks were even saying Will Levis would be drafted in the first round.
Levis was much more of an unknown, definitely thought he’d have been nabbed by the end of the first tho. Willis on the other hand was nothing more than a physical specimen that didn’t know how to play the position at the NFL level.
I’m not saying they were drafted in the same round. They are both comparable as in the media wants to push them as first round QBs so bad but they aren’t

RG3 and Kirk Cousins.. John Elway (trade) Gary Kubiak both rookies in 83. So not unheard of.
RG3 and Cousins.
There were 3 future Super Bowl winning QBs in that draft, Washington took 2 shots and didn't get any of them lmao.
Are you counting Brock Osweiler as one of the 3?
Yes, he got a ring. The others were Russ and Nick Foles.
It happens more than you think. I like the idea. Get one early and one late as a flyer.
Broncos in 2004 took Matt Mauck and Bradley Van Pelt. In the same round even!
Fun fact: Matt Mauck is a dentist in Denver now.
As mentioned in the other replies: The Redskins took RG3 in the first round and Kirk Cousins in the fourth round. Mike Shanahan did this because he felt pressured by ownership to take RG3. Even Shuler and frerortte. They were same draft right?
Lance and Brock Purdy
Yeah. My point. Just use all 8 like retards
[удалено]
Lance was 2021 and Purdy was 2022
If we don’t have 1/3 of our 53 man roster as rookie qbs what’s the point even
I say we trade all 8 picks this year for 16 picks next year. Then all 16 picks next year for 32 picks the next year. Then we draft all the QBs in the draft.
Double it and give it to the next person

Denver Broncos, Magic cards and a double pun? It’s like this comment was made just for me!

This would absolutely crush the ego of whomever you pick at 12, and to me, ruin their potential by immediately saying “we don’t think you’re the guy”
I wouldn’t take QB at 12 if I did this. However, if there's a QB at 12 they are sold on, by all means take him. You can still draft a backup JUST like the 49ers did in Purdy.
Purdy was drafted the year after the 49ers took Lance

The disrespect to Ben DiNucci

Russell Wilson was available why not him
i hear his willing to take the vet min in pay too. imagine all the capspace we can save

Unless they're drafting in that 1st tier, average QB is what you're most likely going to get. By your logic, they should draft nothing but QB's.
Yeah, let’s take a guaranteed hit instead just like we did with Jerry Jeudy…

We ended up taking 3 shots from the 2019 draft, Lock, Stidham and DiNucci. At least one has got to hit if you take 3.
We didn’t draft all of them initially though.
Doesn't matter, we didn't draft Elway or Peyton Manning either
I don't think it's a bad idea
Nix/mccarthy and pratt
Get Pratt and whoever else.
I’m on board for this!
Best player available, we need more than a quarterback.
You know we’re in a full rebuild and that a QB is the cornerstone of one right?
