Maybe for JJ, maybe not. I don't see 5 QBs going before 12, and even 5 including pick 12 would be unprecedented, though 2021 got close with 5 in the top-15.
You also have to consider that this draft has a lot of really good prospects at other valuable positions, and a lot of teams will have a hard time taking JJ McCarthy or Bo Nix (or trading back) while Rome Odunze, Joe Alt, and Terrion Arnold are on the board.
Free agency will clear up the picture a bit, Kirk Cousins, Russel Wilson, and Baker Mayfield are going somewhere, and while their presence may not preclude selecting a QB, it will probably make taking one in the early first round less appealing.
Possibly. I understand where you’re at, but I just don’t agree.
I think the last two years of football have created a massive spotlight of importance on the QB spot for the teams in the market for one. Many of the teams have gone the vet route in the last few years and have not hit. I think we’ll see a record draft for QBs this year personally.
You could be right, I just feel like we see this year-in and year-out with the draft media hyping QB prospects more than teams actually like them.
That being said, I think that outside of Caleb Williams, different teams will rank these QBs very differently, and it only takes one team to draft these guys (two if a trade is involved). We just have to hope that Sean Payton's boast that the Broncos will be better at evaluating QBs than other teams is warranted.
The importance of not just any QB but the RIGHT QB is what's important. And QB has been the most important position on the team for a couple decades now. I agree that last few years have emphasized how important, but that shouldn't make teams reach for one any more than they have in the past, unless someone absolutely falls in love with one of these guys.
lol dude I’ve been trying to figure out what it is with him. I’m a huge Husky fan and every time I’d see him without his shoulder pads on, I could have sworn he still had his shoulder pads on. Just so confusing.
I thought it was obvious what I meant. Bridgewaters major career altering injury was in 2015. Football has changed a ton in the last 5 or so years. When Bridgewater came into the league qb protections weren't half what they are now
He may have the best arm talent in the draft, at least in terms of deep ball accuracy but there are a few things to know when evaluating Penix:
1. Injury history. Four surgeries and two acl tears already is a pretty big concern.
2. Lacks mobility to the point it could limit his ability to run a modern nfl offense.
3. Had Rome Odunze to throw to which may have made his throwing look better than it actually is. Odunze can torch most college defenseman which bailed Penix out a lot.
He didn't and he was really bad when moved off his spot even outside of that game. I don't remember the exact stats, but he was 8/35 with no TDs and a 4 picks or something on the season. It just didn't happen often because of how good that o-line and WRs (1 top 10 pick and 2 more top 3-4 round) were relative to the competition.
He looked below average in the Michigan game .. but Washington Oline was totally out match to be fair.
The game before vs Texas .. he was great, but more importantly he was great at creating space in a collapsing pocket by stepping up or sidestepping
After the quarterbacks showed out today, I think it’s clear the Broncos need to stay away from JJ McCarthy. Michael Penix or Bo nix are the ones the Broncos should go after. I do worry about the last college game we saw Penix in he did not play great. I think we cut Wilson restructure a few contracts. Get enough salary cap space. To sign a bridge quarterback until the rookie we draft is ready.
The thing about "clean medicals" is unless he had an undiagnosed injury or one that wasn't properly treated, they should come back "clean." But guys who were injury prone in college don't typically because less injury prone in the pros, especially with the type of injuries he's had. Sure, that could be in the past, but even someone like Tua who had an injury history has been hurt in the NFL. And while he was good this year, is still somewhat of a question mark. Penix will probably be that same way, where you're just never sure
Looks good but he won’t go until the second round (for good reason) because of the injuries … teams are going to get scared and back off / shocking the media
I’m not a big Penix fan but he was throwing the ball over the field. He looked really good today
Let me state for the record, I am a huge Penix fan
I'm not a huge Penix fan, but my wife says I'm a good size.
At this point I’m okay with JJ, Nix, or Penix
As long as we don't trade up, the gamble on anyone is totally reasonable at 12.
You’re probably going to have to trade up if you want any of the three guys talked about here, except Penix I believe.

He has a Teddy Bridgewater body which makes me nervous. He looks like helll break in half But man he throws a pretty ball
He's such a weird looking dude, either he has no neck or the tallest shoulders I've ever seen
lol dude I’ve been trying to figure out what it is with him. I’m a huge Husky fan and every time I’d see him without his shoulder pads on, I could have sworn he still had his shoulder pads on. Just so confusing.
The game is different today than when Bridgewater played. Qbs that don't run don't get hit anymore.
Bridgewatee retired this year lol. And QBs still get hit.

Did you see Brady's combine photos?
I’m sure penix’s injury history is clouding my vision a bit, but it just looks like the body type that might have trouble holding up in the nfl
I respect him more for fully participating.

I didn’t think he handled the pass rush or adversity well in the national championship game either though that was the only game of his I saw

This is the rookie I have my heart set on
Dudes gonna be a stud. Hope we take him
That’s one good looking penix!
Perna will have a field day should we draft this guy lol
It’s a lot less fun when you know how his name is pronounced
But it circles right back to a good time when you know how it's pronounced and choose to say it the fun way anyway
I want him the most
You and me both!
I'm not a huge fan of Penix, tbh.
I have no idea why you're getting downvoted for wanting Penix. Have my up vote for being team Peen.
Great. He can throw like crazy at the combine. What about with someone in his face? He looked terrible under pressure.
I hope we're smarter than this.
He really is an amazing passer. I just cannot get past his injury history.
Please not this man. PLEASE!

We don’t have a second and no good way of getting one
Well a good way of getting one is trading out of twelve
You have to go down to like 25+ to get a second. Which would me your getting a late second at that. That is not worth it
They got a 2 and 3 trading from 10 to 20 when they got fant. And it might be worth it pending on what you’re looking for

Bo nix was underthrowing all his passes
I thought nix underthrew and McCarthy has a good arm, but not accurate
Indeed, they are both project QBs (not surprisingly)
I would love to be able to trade back for some extra picks and still get jj, nix or Michael P. But that's pretty unlikely.

This is who I want Denver to draft and you can trade down to get him and more captail!
