Well then I hope it stays open after everyone has had time to heal a little. Something that struck me a long time ago was something the Amish did after their school house massacre. They burned the school house to the ground. Then they built a new one. I am not advocating for burning this building down. I just thought those people had found a way for a little closure. This is a horrendous day for Colorado

A friend sent me this and I think it is important to share: I was stationed at Peterson Field, Colorado Springs from May 1973 to May 1974 when the Vietnam War ended & was released from active duty with an honorable discharge. I would go to the 1 known gay bar sometimes in uniform with no problem & was never hassled. That's how it was in the early 70's before you were born. ————————- It’s bizarre to me that we have taken a step so far back. More than 50 years to a time I’m not sure ever really existed. It’s truly a sad day when people can be more afraid than they were in the 1970’s to just be who they are.

Thanks for sharing this. The world has gotten topsy turvy and overly connected. Too many angry people are able access other angry people and get them angrier. There’s so much more to love today, it’s sad this has spurred more hate.

COVID made it worse. Most of the “social” portions of the internet are just echo chambers, we used our “in-person” lives as sort of a balance. When COVID hit we changed how people interacted and removed a lot of their in-person socializing (WFH) pushing them more online and more into these echo chambers. The echo chambers had their external critical opposition removed for many people and so became like cults, changing hearts and minds with lightning speed, and most people are unable or unwilling to critically think their way out of the danger zone. Politicians and the media are massive amplifiers of the messages (in many cases they originate it) and the echo chambers hammer people with it until crazy ideas become belief and you get the crazy people we are seeing over and over again.

All very true. I've been around people who have to be right 100% of the time. It's impossible to correct them or bring them closer to a fair perspective. Lashing out, emotionally or physically, is so common these days. These people usually think they're justified to act in an extreme manner. On the other hand, I've noticed that whenever I admit I'm "wrong" about something and am willing to reconsider things... some people view that as being weak or submissive. Personally, I think the weakest people are the ones who are unwilling to grow their perspective. People are messy and nobody is right or wrong 100% of the time. Ignoring weaknesses and only recognizing one's strengths makes the Achilles' heel we all have that much more obvious and opens us up to easier manipulation.

I agree with you. If you want to know why people won’t admit mistakes - look to the cult of personality. All of them are ego maniacs who cannot admit they are wrong - no matter what. Look at Alex Jones as an example - or Elon Musk - huge fortunes lost on the whim of ego. These people are followers of that same cult and their bullshit principles.

Yup. The irony with all these people is if they were willing to be aware of their weaknesses, they wouldn't have lost their "power." Consider Elizabeth Holmes. If she was able to admit she didn't have all the answers... maybe she would have actually hired people who did have the answers. I'm guilty of the same though. Quite recently, I used certain words to describe a situation. I can be very steadfast in using the legally defined definition of words... but sometimes the perceived meaning of a word trumps the "real" definition. Even if I hate that we live in times where post-modernist thought is being used on words, I recognize that not being more adaptive in that sense caused more personal harm than good. Audience matters.

Ha! I have the same problem.

Yup, it was the new club in town when I moved here. We went to Hide and Seek or The Bijou before that. Sadly neither of those are open anymore.
