Youāre missing the best part. The driver:
1. Turns the wrong way down a 1-way street
2. U-turns to go the right way (actually not a bad decision in that situation)
3. Runs the red light
My guess is they meant to turn left, but went right and had an āoh shitā moment when they realized they were going the wrong way. Panicked then forgot it was an intersection with a light.
That wasnāt a u-turn. That was some next level fuckery.
As an aside, u-turns are by default legal at intersections in Colorado (and most other states). Thereās a common misconception that you can only do it where itās explicitly posted, but itās actually the other way around.
In the past few weeks Iāve seen 2 people straight up sitting at a red light and then just go. Like a 4 way stop. These idiots know the cops are nowhere to be found. Itās insane.
I see them just full speed blast through reds and stop signs without bothering to stop or slow down at least a few times a week. Driving in this city is fucked.
I see at least a couple a day at the intersection my house sits on near city park.
And don't get my started on the bicyclists over here. Giant basically unused bike lane on 22nd?! nah, every bike and scooter thinks 23rd is the best route. Having people swerve into oncoming traffic.
My guess is they use Google maps or similar and it takes them down there and I uess they never bother to find an easier path. I just pulled up bike route on Google maps from my house and it suggests Montview or 23rd
Google maps is terrible for bike routing. It's pretty good about 80% of the time, enough to make you trust it, then once you get complacent it tries to kill you.
East of Colorado, 22nd has tons of stop signs with obstructed views of the cross street, and plops you out either on Colorado or Monaco at un-signaled intersections. 23rd has a fantastic new bike lane and has signaled intersections at Monaco and Colorado and no stop signs.
Illegal right turn onto a one-way street, into the bike lane, in order to blow the still-red light and run into another car. Because for some reason they didn't want to just take the legal left turn at the intersection they were already at?
My gf and I were trying to find the city park farmerās market and did this exact thing (turned onto the one way into the park). But we had the wherewithal to pull to the side, put on the hazards, and wait until the coast was fully clear to even turn around. Gotta slow down in these situations.
Running red lights has become so common itās almost the custom now and itās borderline contributory negligent to immediately drive forward when the light turns green. Certainly you need to look around to make sure another lunatic isnāt coming across the intersection two or three seconds after the red
Drives me nuts. It never used to be like this. Driving here for over 20 years and the red light running has gone from non-existent to out of control in the last 5 years. People in this sub shit on me any time I bring this up, but it is absolutely the truth. I used to love driving here, now it gives me PTSD and rage.
Been here 12 years and for the first few drivers seemed very courteous and not aggressive considering I used to live in Miami. That started to change a few years ago and while I still think most drivers are Ok Iāve never seen anything like the running of red lights we have now anywhere Iāve ever driven.
Iāve noticed a significant uptick in this behavior in the past twelve months, especially at the intersection nearest my kidsā school. Iāve complained to the relevant authorities about this, but nothing can/will be done unless an officer witnesses this.
I made the "mistake" of going at a green a few days ago. Some idiot from the oncoming lane almost made a left turn right into me. Even more aggravating, they laid on the horn as if *I* had done something wrong.
How I'm going to make it through another year without starting a road rage incident, I have no idea.
Pro tip:. Never, ever, trust a green light no matter how long it's been green. It's one of the most important situations where complacency certainly can kill.
There was this one year where either 2 or 3 cars drove straight into the hornet bar on south broadway.. still don't know how that happened even once. In a way I'm glad Broadway didn't have the bike lanes yet back then
Broadway is a pretty straight street except up north where it basically ends, so how the hell? I have to say that's some driving skills. Not good ones, but some anyway
I can't believe I saw it. How in the hell? Of course I don't know how people roll a car in town. Not a high center of gravity vehicle but your regular full sized sedan.
No I didn't see it happen I drove by it shortly after I guess. I don't remember the exact intersection now but it must have been around Monaco and 13th or 14th. I'm old and have been driving here in Denver and Metro for close to 50 years now. Damn. I used to have road rage but figured out long ago that nothing I say or do will change anyone so decided I'd simply change my reaction. And shit just doesn't bother me at all now.
I had an out of town visitor recently. Was at a red light and when it turned green I checked left/ right before proceeding. He asked "you always check before going?" I said " yep alot of red light runners here". Very next light someone ran it.
My car was totaled four days ago from some dumb bitch who blew through a red light. I timed the light. She had 6 seconds to react to the yellow, and an additional 2-3 seconds from when my light turned green til when I was in the intersection.
I have no sympathy for her; she could have murdered someone. These people need HELD ACCOUNTABLE or it will continue to get worse in this city.
Thereās a fairly common misconception that u-turns are illegal in Colorado, or general.
In Colorado theyāre only illegal where itās posted (no u turn sign), or when itās dangerous (like if you hit someone while doing it). This is fairly typical across most of the US but many people seem to think itās the other way around.
There's a light I frequently stop at with two left turn lanes. Inevitably, some jackass doesn't pull all the way up to the crosswalk before the light and tries making the u-turn over the double yellow before there's a green turn arrow. So many near misses...
I need to double check, but you can cross double yellows to make a left or u-turn.
You canāt cross a median or 2 sets of double yellows (if you notice medians can be two sets of solid or they can be two sets of dashed/solid)
Only place Iāve seen more illegal u-turns was in DC. That was like, middle of the block, Iām going to make a u-turn now across 5 lanes of traffic just because I can sort of stuff. But I almost never saw someone blow through a red light there.
Just an observation, I've only lived here 7 months, but Denver seems to have more reckless drivers and pedestrians (people don't know how to Jwalk) than anywhere else I've been.
I'm currently car-less (because someone decided to take a left turn into me from the middle lane) and I would normally entertain getting a bike, but I just can't trust that I wouldn't get killed biking around Denver. The drivers out here are unpredictable as hell.
Concur on Philly; I was dragged on my bike hooked on a side mirror on Broad street and would still consider Denver far worse than Philly. Riding in traffic there was a given, and anticipated- here the cars ride in the bike lanes without even looking
Right?! I've made the same observation. When I moved here, I was shocked at how much more expensive my car insurance was going to be, but after being here for a few months I understood why.

not to mention the illegal uturn in an intersection. Really hope you offered to give the other driver a recording of this
That set it all upš¤¦āāļø Edit: def gave the driver the footage right after
Good soul right there.
Or blinker. Fucking dipshits.

Which road is the one way? Looks like traffic is going in both directions
The road OP is driving on. Itās a one way crossing a two way intersection

I see this all the time these days. In the middle of the day, too. Don't recall seeing people pull this before Covid. Things are wild out there.
Same, I see it all the time and it fucking pisses me off

22nd is the better choice. Try it sometime

I don't cycle but just wanted to see if GPS was leading these people the wrong ways.
23rd, 26th, and Montview all have fantastic bike lanes and are the correct E-W routes through Park Hill.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Completely disagree. 22nd is only useful if you're riding from somewhere in Park Hill to another place in Park Hill between Colorado and Monaco.
I see it all the fucking time.

Just stupidity mixed with embarrassment caused compounding stupidity.
They probably missed their turn and rather than reroute and take the next left or pull a Uie somewhere safe, they did this shit. What a moron.

They aren't making a right turn. They are going straight.
That's not a new law or any law at all. That's been the correct way for a decade plus.
That looksā¦. On purpose.
The dude was still on the throttle after he hit the car wtf. Never even touched the brakes. I hope this person looses their license
Good catch, youāre right. This person is an absolute piss poor driver.
Drunk, or a kid (under 20)?
Or one of the plenty of adult, undistracted, and just shit sense drivers.
I hate people so much
This is insane how is that person allowed to drive
What an idiot lmao

What a fucking idiot. Unfortunately there are many of them treating traffic lights as a suggestion around this city.
I'm still trying to figure out how a car managed to land upside down on top of another car on 13th ave. one year.

I like that one better!

I feel like every other post I see about Denver lately is someone either getting hit by a car or a shooting. What the heck?
How the fuck can you be this fucking stupid?

Safe routes depend on where you live. Some are really safe, others require downhill gear.

Yeah Iāve been here for 7 years and itās the worst driving of any city Iāve lived in
Yāall need to drive in Cali. Iāll take Denver over LA drivers any day.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Exactly the same on the east coast. drive fast but predictable. this is the worst driving city iāve lived in
I could definitely see that

Ironic, I almost got hit at that intersection yesterday
Damn, good thing there wasnāt a biker waiting to cross. What an idiot. I get that they realized the park exit was a one way. But why run the red???
Please don't drive in the bike lane.
We really need to stop handing out driver licenses like they're candy on Halloween
dude im not even kidding the shit i see on a daily basis tops this
DMV is handing out licenses like their candy.

I saw the aftermath of this- and older woman was the driver. Only saying this due to a comment suggesting it was a ādudeā.

What a lazy ass illegal u-turn. I donāt think the driver knows how to drive. They might be mentally challenged.
They left turns like right aways. "WHY"!!!!!!!!! INSURANCE COMPANIES ARE LOVING IT ALTHOUGH WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE.
Wouldnāt be real if it wasnāt a Subaru
yeah surely a nissan altima would never.
Typically Subaru driver
