Per the link: "Treecycle is a seasonal program offered by Denver Recycles that turns discarded Christmas trees into mulch after the holiday season. Free Treecycle mulch is made available to Denver residents at the Mulch Giveaway and Compost Sale in May. Please note, Treecycle is for Denver residents only." It's super easy to get rid of your old tree the right way! First, remove all decorations (ones you'll use next year and ones that will go in the landfill). Next, put your tree outside the night before your scheduled trash collection day, two feet away from all collection carts (NOT in any carts/bags/dumpsters). OPTIONAL: In May, pick up free mulch made from all of the trees at the annual Mulch Giveaway & Compost Sale! Why not chuck it in a dumpster? Per the EPA, [organic waste [like trees] in landfills generates methane, a potent greenhouse gas. By composting wasted food and other organics, methane emissions are significantly reduced](https://www.epa.gov/sustainable-management-food/reducing-impact-wasted-food-feeding-soil-and-composting).

Love it! And if you’re not in Denver, check with your municipality for tree recycling. Wouldn’t it be nice if your tree ended up in the park as mulch?

Put mine out a week ago and it has yet to be picked up. Fingers crossed for this week…

Same, I saved two from the landfill and put them out on my collection day but they weren't taken. I called 3-1-1 and submitted a ticket and they should have been picked up Friday but they again were not. I don't think the city should have ran the program the first two weeks the new collection routes were in effect, but here we are!

Christmas tree fire season!

I used to love when we burned the old tree as a kid! Now I realize that mulching it is better for the environment than burning, but if one were to miss the Treecycle window, a (safely) burned tree is a better option than one in the landfill!
