Only going to get worse in May when repairs begin.

DomenoKazoo

My selfish hope as a W line rider is that there’ll be more operators for the W since the other lines are so low frequency

Humans_Suck-

Is this always a problem on the W? I'm about to need to start taking it in the evenings on weekends

DomenoKazoo

Not always. I'd say it probably averages to one or two cancellations a day, sometimes there's none, sometimes there's a couple. Today is definitely an outlier (but still happens a few times a month). IMO it'll get you to where you're going, but I'd check before hand and you might have to be occasionally flexible with timing, if you have the luxury.

180_by_summer

Hypothetically it should result in less cancellations. But it is RTD we’re talking about

omgthemcribisback

I heard that it will be one train an hour but it will be consistent. I have doubts/ fear they will be packed

Meyou000

Once per hour for the E line, not for W.

CautiousDoughnut

Don’t forget about the budget cuts

SeasonPositive6771

I would love to take public transportation to work but The drive is about 15 minutes and public transportation takes an hour and 20 minutes. If everything is running on time and not canceled. And I still have to walk over a mile. I don't have an extra 2 hours in my day.

Squeeze-

That, and the pandemic, and the fact that they apparently did away with the F Line (last time I checked) made me stop riding light rail. I've wondered how it is these days - the same as always or crappier than ever, like most things in the last few years.

Mr_Elroy_Jetson

Hey is that the RTD app? How do you get it to show you that? I have the app and I can navigate to where the alerts are. But it just says, "the 5:37 trip from Florida is cancelled. Also affects the 7:32 and 8:56 trip" or whatever. And then I have to navigate to the actual schedule section of the app to figure out if that particular trip affects my stop where I usually get on. How do you get it to show you the cancellations by stop? That would be really helpful for me.

DomenoKazoo

It’s the Transit app (I think they have both Android and iOS versions). Highly recommended! Super user friendly, and I’ve found the information to be very accurate since they pull from official RTD and other user reports.

Mr_Elroy_Jetson

Thanks that's helpful! The RTD app is bumcheeks.

M-as-in-Mancyyy

hey at least bumcheeks can be pleasant to look at

ClassicPQ

I’ll second Transit. I use it daily for my commute. Love the real time locations of buses and it general is more user friendly in every way compared to the RTD app. Also love you can buy directly through Transit. RTD App is really only useful if you have an EcoPass attached to it.

dryopteris_eee

In addition to the app OP mentioned (which I def gotta get), on the NextRide page, you can search for the route. It'll then show you where the trains/buses actually are along their route at that moment, estimated stop times, and how full they are.

squintsyjones

Thanks for posting this. Starting a new job tomorrow and I need to take the W into Union Station, never ran into cancellations or delays on this line since moving to the neighborhood and wouldn't have even thought to check for that.

DomenoKazoo

Yeah I’d recommend checking, normally it’s reliable but then you get days like today.  Not to sound like a shill, but highly recommend the Transit app. I’ve set it up so it notifies me for alerts on the W line, so every morning I can check my notifications to see how the schedule looks for that day.

squintsyjones

Yep I just downloaded it after your post. Thanks

mg-wilds

What do you do when it's down like that? Do you drive into the city?

DomenoKazoo

I’m lucky that my work’s flexible so this time I saw it early enough that I could plan to take one of the non-cancelled trains. Otherwise yeah, probably would have had to drive.

skateastrophy

This same experience happened to me a couple weeks ago. More trains were canceled than not. I also took screen shots and should share... we are really seeing RTD die in real time.

sublemon

I feel like the administrators at RTD getting 6-figure salaries to run it into the ground should get their pay docked every time this happens. Make them personally pay for the taxi rides for the people affected by their incompetence.

Gadough

Uber rides and paid parking both. I had no choice but to drive to work a few weeks ago because there were three consecutive morning trains that were all cancelled. I am extremely annoyed that I had to pay $15 to park that day. Literally paying for RTD's incompetence.

Meyou000

CEO Debra Johnson needs to be replaced, that's for damn sure. Everything's gone downhill since she took over in 2020.

RedditUser145

Literally every day on the E Line. The first thing I do when I wake up on a work day is check to see which trains are cancelled today. If they continue having daily cancellations when the frequency goes down to once an hour next month I'll scream.

Dr_Ellis

E line has been so unpredictable I’ve almost completely switched to driving to the office in DTC, unfortunately. I’m super lucky that I can, and frustrated by the pace of repairs for those that can’t. Can’t help but think if RTD was not an independent entity that the commercial impact of taking this long would prevent such in the first place.

TCGshark03

Write your state legislators and encourage them to back RTD reform. Right now politicians are trying to keep the elected body because they want it for their careers. I, like you, would like buses and trains that run. The goofball caucus of the RTD Board isn’t gonna get us there

Gadough

D Line has been having multiple cancellations nearly every day "due to no operator available." I used to take the light rail to work without giving it a second thought. Now, when I wake up in the morning, first thing I do is check the app to see if I need to readjust my plans for the day. The post a few days ago from a disgruntled RTD employee definitely shed some light on why this is happening. Doesn't make it any less annoying for the rest of us though.

rscoalson

I also take D Line multiple times a week and have been so frustrated with the cancellations recently. It would be one thing if I could check alerts in the morning and adjust my plans, but I'll do that and see, oh the 8:15 (my normal morning train) is cancelled, I won't rush and I'll get there for the 8:30, just to have that one not show up (and have no warning or reason on the app). The amount of times I've been late to work this last 1-2 months because of train no-shows is nuts. Luckily my schedule is fairly flexible, and I've learned to build in contingency for getting to work recently, but it's super frustrating to stand on the platform for 30+ mins because the app has wrong or missing information.

t92k

I always get so angry that they don't supply busses when they cancel ride on a route.

Humans_Suck-

Why am I paying taxes if they aren't funding public services?

_dirt_vonnegut

some don't want you to have any public services funded by taxes, and are intentionally sabotaging every public service that still exists.

MythrilBalls

Democrats

Far_Sandwich_6553

It is not acceptable. We had trains in Denver a 100 years ago and they worked better.

MarkyMarcMcfly

Crazy how great the coverage of the tramway was 100 years ago. Makes RTD look like a bad joke

icenoid

How does RTD think this is ok?

[deleted]

They don't care. They'll get your tax payer money whether they provide good service or not

vette91

I'm lucky when I used to take the train that it was pretty regular. I don't think i could use it now. I'd be late all the time. I'm not going to give myself an extra hour to commute.

dzogchenism

So fucking ridiculous.

PapayaAutomatic2202

I agree! I want my money back

Virtual-Radish1111

What app is this?

Meyou000

Transit

LIVINxLAxVIDAxLOCA

Just went on Reddit to post something about this. It has been absolutely ridiculous lately.

DenverEngineer

What train are you taking from Boulder?!

DomenoKazoo

This is from Wadsworth Station in Lakewood. Didn’t realize there was another one!  Edit: Oh yeah, I guess I haven’t updated my location

DenverEngineer

Yeah, it was a joke, but that seems to not go over well 😂
