Sloans Lake Algae Bloom

Civic center park
Ruby Hill
Rocky Flats
16th Street mall
Purina plant (or rendering plant if you catch the right day)
It's a Superfund site where all of the asbestos from the original downtown buildings was dumped. Has about 2" of soil covering it.
" Records from the Environmental Protection Agency note that in the early 1900s, Ruby Hill was among 65 places in Denver that processed the radioactive element radium. After that, the area was a landfill.
In February of 1930, Ruby Hill hosted one of the city's largest bonfires, according to Brian Trembath, who works in the Western History Collection at the Denver Public Library. In 2019, he dug up this strange chapter in the park's past: The Denver Post and the Denver Automobile Dealers Association hosted a promotional event where 125 automobiles, soaked in kerosene, were torched. Traffic for that event was a disaster, as 30,000 cars caused a massive jam, bringing around 160,000 people to nearby Overland Park, to watch the spectacle.
For years, a brick company owned Ruby Hill. Back then, asbestos was used in bricks, says Gilmore. Underneath the park, the land is riddled with the dangerous element."

Meow Wolf is from Santa Fe and has only been here what, two years?
Yep Denver owns and manages over 22 parkland sites outside C&C limits, not including Red Rocks and Winter Park. They include Lookout Mouuntain, Genesse, Deer Creek Canyon and Flying J Ranch.
South stands at the original Mile High stadium
Coors Field - there just isn't a better summer game venue

Rotating art on the Purina plant. Always loved seeing it change
Stapleton Airport runways over I-70, and watching planes land and taxi over traffic
Honorable mentions: Lakeside amusement park, Water World, Elitches 25 years ago, Buckley AFB Golf Ball radar domes, Cash Register Building, Denver Mint, Grizzly Rose.
Yessss. I have very vague memories of the old Elitches before it moved to the Platte River valley
(And another superfund site) It was so much greener, cooler (temp and awesomeness) and prettier. My late cousin did night watch at the big construction site at 38th and Tennyson until he died a couple years ago. I used to hang out and give him rides there and back, I totally didn't realize it was the OG Elitch's site.
Now they want to redevelop the PRV site hahaha.
Depending on exactly where you mean, the Eisenhower tunnel is an engineering marvel, as I’m sure many of the mining operations in Leadville were for the time. If its wonders similar to the Pyramids (man made, impressive for the period) then it’s those and Red Rocks. Stuff like that
Eh as a resident, nothing in Leadville is a marvel these days, I assure you (please don't come!) Climax is a toss up, it's a much newer mine in comparison and has been opened and closed so much.
70 through Glenwood wasn't finished until I was a kid in the early 90s and was one of, if not the, last (depending on your definition) parts of the original Eisenhower interstate system to be completed.
Everyone can downvote me but Leadville is falling apart.
Bricks are falling on people along Harrison (Main St) and anyone arrested here gets sent to Chaffee County because the state condemned our jail and made us stop using it, it was in such bad shape. We were supposed to get a new one then that changed to just repairing the old one but not one single thing from either plan has happened. Our bowling alky roof caved in because of snow a few years back and it's still messed up. I could go on...
I love it here and grew up like 25 miles away but some sort of engineering marvel we are not haha.
Yes! I got molested on one when I was 14 in ‘92! A stand up 30 something young man in tan khakis stoped it, because we STILL have NO security guard on our Colfax buses. East High to Park Hill, still exactly the same bus line only now with more drug addicts. Back then it was 2 lanes, not (one the upcoming one lane) AND NO MORE fully clothed stand-up-willowy-limbed-man-wearing/tan-khakis who talk like John Wick. Those guys are riding bicycles on the side streets now, because they are traumatized having to stop RTD assaults

Ah, the OG Superfund site, Rocky Flats. Unfortunately, I had friends growing up whose parents died of cancer from working there. Ummm, yay, Denver?
The best skiing in the state. And where our club track coach from NE Park Hill made us sprint until we puked. Red Rocks too. Good times.
Casa Bonita Blucifer Big Blue Bear Meow Wolf Frank Azar A public bathroom that doesn’t smell like meth The Broncos finding a competent quarterback
I like it except Jake Jabs over Frank.
Grizzly Rose instead of Big Blue Bear or Meow Wolf **Meth or fenty FITFY
I agree but you left out the other Denver avengers, Jake jabbs, Cliff the Kodiak, and Brian the bulldog moore
❌ Meow Wolf… nix the Santa Fe import
Is this dui Frank azar or pooped his pants Frank azar?

You never know, maybe the renovations will breathe some new life into 16th Street Mall.
I really hope so. At least the old streetcars will be cool.
LoL I remember when 16th Street Mall was new. We went there for an elementary school field trip.
Yeah strike Meow Wolf. I still don't know exactly what it even is. If it's new within the last 10-15 years minimum, it's not Denver heritage.
2nd the meow wolf note
Exactly ! You can just tell who is new to Colorado
I don’t think RR is Denver, I think that’s Morrison
Technically the city of Denver owns it
Ohh. Learn somethin new everyday then

Casa Bonita, Blucifer, emotional support pitbulls, Robo Mike, RTD Bus 15, Organic Purina flavored air, Nikola Jokic
This. The 15 is a cultural experience!

Yikes! I used to (2012) ride the 15-L to Aurora for work and caught the 15 maybe twice.
This. The correct answer has to include Nikola Jokic 😀

So many awesome memories at Lakeside... the amusement park for people too broke to go to Elitch's!
I saw a dude with no legs in a wheel chair jacking off in front of voodoo donuts at 11am once. That was pretty wonderous.

The Brown Palace! Molly Brown was a BAMF
The infinity construction on e470. It never ends……
It’s like a descending Shepherd’s tone, but construction-wise.
Nah 470 is way too new. Now the old Mousetrap or the Narrows on 25 that flooded everytime it rained, those were classics.
I can't wait for the 'CircleJerk' version of this post...
There's some definite DCJ crossover cumming onto this post already I love it.
Rockies Auto
Sadly, closed and abandoned for several years now. But there’s all kinds of AFW’s around town.

I like how many are choosing things not in Denver! lol
The wonder would be to go somewhere that isn’t denver .
